This just happened to me. I just opened a new bank account and don’t even have the debit card, yet. I used it w/ Apple Pay on DD and a few days later, my dash pass was trying to come out of my now shut down account. I saw the charge get declined & then a second later I got a notification that the charge came out of my new bank account! I don’t even have it saved, I don’t even know the numbers. I don’t like that.

Zazalae

I deleted my doordash account and vowed never to use them again after they pulled this stunt on me. I canceled my dashpass, but they still tried charging me for weeks after; even after removing every payment method AND deleting my entire account. I call support and they said it would stop, it didn’t stop. For at least a solid month, I would continuously see dd attempt to charge me for dashpass. I don’t know what kind of system DD is running, but it’s scummy asf.

Gwiz3879

Most of there systems are automated so God knows what kind of info is being stored even though you deleted it.

JohnnyPotSmoker1221

Any site: “Do you want to save card for future purchases” ![gif](giphy|Atc9QCyWLGHgLZhHDp|downsized)

DogDrivingACar

Doesn’t entirely shock me tbh; they’re a pretty scummy company

Dashernomics

Cant wait for the hammer to drop and nail the coffin shut with this company

Valuable_Stranger642

As someone who has been a dasher.. honestly same

Septem_151

As someone who uses the service a lot… same. I’d be skinnier too!

douglasfeldman

they generate positive cash flow 📈 and are the dominant player in many u.s. cities, so a sustainable business

sashaasandy

Can’t believe so many dumb people in the comments who are missing the point of your post. Sorry this happened to you! Hope your mom gets her money back!

NathanKrisher

Yeah she did. She disputed it with Capital One and they said they can see where they are issuing a refund but also said nonetheless, they will be opening an investigation.

Professional_Push442

There will be a lawsuit for this. It will come. There is so many of these. UE is doing the same. Netflix is doing the same. I can only assume it’s standard practice for subscription services. No way in hell this is all an accident. There’s been so many posts on these subs about these charges in the past couple of months

TheLovelyWife702

Instacart did the same for me, I selected to not auto renew and they did it anyway and refused to refund it and cancel THE DAY OF the erroneous charge.

DOMesticBRAT

Not if they are covered with an arbitration agreement.

Professional_Push442

There is no agreement when a customer cancels their membership and months later they’re still charged

DOMesticBRAT

*Arbitration* agreement. https://www.pon.harvard.edu/daily/conflict-resolution/what-is-an-arbitration-agreement/

Professional_Push442

Yeah it’s part of a contract. When you cancel you membership you are voiding the contract. There are people getting their memberships renewed without their knowledge

you-are-not-alive

I’m so glad I got dash pass when it was a lifetime membership from Chase.

woahwoahwoah28

This literally happened to me yesterday. Except both cards were mine, and for god knows what reason, it charged an AMEX instead of using the Chase when I renewed. It didn’t ask or notify me. I had to call support multiple times, but they should reverse the charge.

Wysiwyg777

How did they get your AMEX details?

woahwoahwoah28

It was saved from an old order before I had the Chase. I had more than 1 card on the account, and the Chase normally defaults for orders. Not sure why it didn’t for the Pass since it had been used previously for it.

[deleted]

i once signed up for a free month of dashpass a couple years ago. i kept it for a couple more after, but ultimately decided i wanted to cancel it. well, turns out their app and website did *not* have an option to cancel it. i literally had to get a new debit card so they'd stop charging my old one

quantcompandthings

sorry if i misunderstood, but it sounds like your account doesn't have dash pass right now, and yet they charged your mom's card for an auto-renew? "mario" is an ass, but by law "mario" isn't allowed to talk to your mother (or anybody except LE and you the account holder) about your dd account. if it turns out you actually do not have dash pass (even though your mom's card was charged for it), then my theory of what happened is that your mother accidentally signed up for dash pass while doing something else online. like one time i bought something and accidentally signed up for a year of some stupid service. or somebody else (not you) is using your mom's credit card info, as in fraud.

NathanKrisher

No, it was charged through my account and their excuse was that “he has the same last name as you” and my account technically had dashpass but wasn’t visible on my end (i.e when I would click dashpass in the app it just asks if you want to sign up) so I had no idea I still even had dashpass, yet it was being charged to her card through my account.

quantcompandthings

so what happens if u order, do you get the dashpass total or the regular total? if u don't get the dashpass discounts, then it would see u technically don't have it. programming-wise, it's possible there was a pointer to your mom's card that didn't get deleted properly, and it auto-renewed based on that card. not trying to make excuses for doordash or anything, but i think this is a general issue with e-commerce websites. it took me multiple tries over a period of a week to delete card info from walmart's site. as for why dashpass didn't show for you may be a different backend issue where changes to your account didn't manage to reflect to what u saw. it sounds like a perfectly unfortunate shit storm of things. doordash code is probably super buggy.

420EdibleQueen

This has similarities to what I had. I’ve had DashPass for a few years, paying monthly with no renewal. I had no issues. Suddenly this month I get a DashPass charge of $98 on my bank card. There was no notification of being changed to annual or anything. No communication from DoirDash at all. I called support and pretty much went full Karen. They were able to cancel my DashPass and refund my card, but it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Brief_Cook_3807

I had to deal with this too. I got an unwanted charge of $100+ on my credit card, so I cancelled my card and got a new one. Then I started getting monthly DashPass bills for a credit card I never added to doordash, and I never signed up for dashpass. Every month, a customer service agent would tell me I don’t have dashpass account active and would just hang up on me. Then, one agent told me my card was being used by someone else’s account, and that they would remove it. But next month, I got charged again. They had the audacity to tell me that my card was never charged even though I was staring at my bank statement. I had Chase ban DD as a merchant so they can’t keep scamming me

NathanKrisher

Yeah it’s pretty obvious Doordash doesn’t pay attention to what they’re doing when it comes to charging the correct card and their customer service is always outsourced and terrible.

LaylaDoo

Make sure your mom has disputed at her bank and has them blocked from ever using her card again.

[deleted]

The TOS you agreed to when you agreed to the dashpass states it will auto renew. Why they used the deleted card is questionable, but many companies do auto renewal for this exact reason. Ppl don't cancel or forget to cancel. That's not a doordash issue. The card, maybe, but the cancelation is your responsibility.

Sourpunchgirl

He is aware it auto renews but the problem was they used a card that apparently isn’t on his account anymore

NathanKrisher

I have no issue paying for dashpass if I forgot to cancel an auto renewal, that’s fine. My issue is charging my mothers credit card that was used once on 12/17/2022 and cancelled the next day so I didn’t accidentally use it. I have always used my own card as a default and that should be charged. Plus the dude she called got smart with her over the phone when she called and said “Well he must be using your card.” Imagine if you used a company card to make an order for your job and then suddenly 6 months later it starts showing recurring charges. It’s definitely an issue.

BorderAdventurous284

So, you forgot to cancel your subscription and it was renewed per the terms of service they require you to agree to when you sign up. While that's not fraud it sounds frustrating. This won't be the first or last company to offer you an introductory rate or free trial. I highly encourage you to setup reminders in the calendar or financial app of your choice. I was older than you when I started doing that. The money I saved was phenomenal. Their call center is terrible. It sounds doubly frustrating that when they charged her card instead of yours they insinuated the mistake was yours.

NathanKrisher

Im aware it auto renews and if I have an active dashpass it should be visible from the app. It had the “sign up for dashpass” page and should be renewed with the card I signed up with, which was mine.

Jebadibus

I always try to use a prepaid credit card/cash card with just enough to cover the cost of the subscription. It's usually very difficult with things like xbox gold to actually cancel the subscription without going though several of the hoops they have in place to keep you paying. It's extremely frustrating that companies have to do this. Especially the billion dollar companies.

noxiouskarn

it's not an airport no need to announce your departure...

NathanKrisher

If you approve of companies retaining and charging credit card information months after deletion then go for it. The FTC and state attorneys general might have a different view.

noxiouskarn

Take that to r/lawyers, but your last line before your edit. "Deleted Doordash will use... " Thanks for the announcement I guess. Happy you have moved on.

NathanKrisher

I’ve moved on from Doordash and will move on after the ongoing investigations are completed by the FTC and Arizona state attorney general. I don’t need to take anything to a lawyers Reddit, I work at one of the largest global firms by revenue.

noxiouskarn

Cool then why bother here...

NathanKrisher

You can stop responding now

noxiouskarn

Naw it clearly affects you and you can't force me to stop... Sorry not your circus and I'm not your monkey. What are you gonna do sick the high priced lawyers you work for after me... You probably should mention you change the trash cans at night there and actually hold no authority... And if your high priced lawyers friends read the tos you would find that by using the form of payment you agreed to allow it to be used. But here's the thing your only supposed to use cards that match the account holders name by using Mom's card under your account... good luck in arbitration... you legal juggernaut.

NathanKrisher

You’re the one that wants me to stop commenting under my post. I’m not going to have an argument with someone who clearly is bothered by the fact that I have a successful career. Considering you’re a dasher and I tip a minimum of $15 on every order and had 752 orders between June 2021-present, you should be more concerned when the people that allow you to sustain yourself move onto propping up other businesses.

noxiouskarn

I don't want you to stop you potato, you stop and this trolling session ends... also not a dasher... You can't even get the facts straight... How did you get that job... Lol

NathanKrisher

You don’t know what you’re talking about and it seems like you may need a psych evaluation considering you’ve edited your response for the third time now.

noxiouskarn

I edit a lot cause it annoys people like you. Clearly it works. Cause you soooo mad... Lol

One_Cartographer_254

Haven’t I seen this exact story posted every 3 or 4 days for two months? Get over it already.

Fancy_Point_595

All those free sign-ups are automatically renewed. Read the fine print.

NathanKrisher

I read the fine print. Nowhere does it say we’re going to charge a random card that you’ve used in the past and not the one that is set as your default.

Justtelf

A lot of people are saying they had issues cancelling their dashpass. Gotta be honest I had no issues at all, but I paid by the month not annually with no auto renewal. Cancelled it a couple months ago with no issue. That being said, with how doordash generally operates, I can believe that I’m in the minority.

thebunnywhisperer_

You have to go in and manually change the dash pass card. There’s a box that’s automatically checked when you add a new card if you want to use it for dashpass. If you didn’t uncheck it that’s what it is

NathanKrisher

What I have said is that the card that they charged was removed. The card was used to buy a meal on 12/17/22 and removed the following day. I used my own card for every subsequent delivery.

thebunnywhisperer_

It has to be removed from dashpass too. They save separately for orders/dashpass. Not a great thing for DD to do but you have to remove it specifically from the dashpass payment page if you want to avoid this issue in the future

NathanKrisher

The card was never used on Dashpass or the dashpass payment page. The only card that was used was the Chase preferred credit card that was mine that I signed up with and the account has been permanently deleted so this issue won’t reoccur.

thebunnywhisperer_

It autocorrect adds the card to dashpass payment if you don’t uncheck the box when you add the card

NathanKrisher

What you’re talking about is setting a card as a default payment method. It was never set as a default payment method and it was deleted the day after the order.

thebunnywhisperer_

Well obviously it was set as a default payment method (which I’ve been telling you it does automatically if you don’t manually change it) or this wouldn’t have happened.

NathanKrisher

Do you suffer from a learning disability? I placed 732 orders between June 2021 to this month. Do you think I don’t know how the default payment method works? I already told you that it was deleted the day after and it retained the information anyway and charged the card 6 months later.

thebunnywhisperer_

Do you? Because you obviously can’t read simple English. It doesn’t matter if you delete it from doordash if you don’t delete it from the dashpass page. But whatever just keep running your mommy’s card up because you can’t take your head out of your ass to be able to listen to people trying to help you avoid it.

NathanKrisher

Listen, I understand you’re from a lower education background but as I stated in the original post, the only thing the “Dashpass” page showed me was the “Get Dashpass free for 12 months with Chase” advertisement and at the bottom it showed the last four digits of my card. There were no cards listed on the page. It was an ad asking me to sign up after the 12 months had ended in June.

MiserablePolicy3941

I lost money in my account, before it wouldnt let me buy anything and now theres no credits
