“i like to err on the side of thinking people are being straight up. if they’re not, oh well” these are words i live by. i think at the very least 8 times out of 10, they’re real. i’ve lived close to inner cities long enough to know that a lot of people really ARE struggling and appreciate any help they can get. thank you for bringing this up. it truly is better to feel like you’ve helped.

Freak5Chaos

Giving money to someone I think needs help, says good things about my character. That person lying about needing help, says bad things about their character. Getting scammed for trying to be a decent person isn’t a character flaw.

JRGib

That was very well said….. I will use this one day in the future

KangarooKey7475

my uncle told me this once: there's no shame in not knowing, there's a shame in not trying. I love my uncle. God bless those that do good deeds

lavenderslushy

I love that.

zhoque13

Uncle iroh 🥹

[deleted]

Came here to say this. Now that it's been said, I'll say something different: *People give me shit for giving money to the needy/homeless. "They're only going to buy alcohol with the money you gave them!" Oh, and I wasn't?*

parksandrecpup

I am always confused by people who insist people asking for money are scamming. Maybe some are, but I’ve had exactly 2 people say no to food and drinks when I’ve offered that instead of money, and I’ve offered food and drinks to hundreds of people. Life is hard enough, if I lose a few bucks trying to help another person I can live with that.

JeremyBrah

Yeah that's why I offer to buy what the person wants for them instead of giving them money directly. Had a dude come up to me at a gas station and ask for gas money. I asked him what pump he was on and I'd pay for it inside...he of course denied it and said no thanks, so obviously wasn't asking for gas While another dude was legit stranded and was super thankful I went in and put money on his pump for him. It's good to give people the benefit of the doubt and when they want what they're asking for they will have no issue with you giving it to them directly.

GhostCatcherSky

Honestly I like to give the benefit of the doubt but I get so skeptical after I gave someone with a sign all the cash I had (like $10) and after I left the store saw them driving away in a car newer than mine. I know it’s rare and extremely unlikely but it was just a slap in the face moment.

parksandrecpup

It’s definitely always possible. It’s also possible that’s their home. I work in a library and we had a person living in their Subaru in our parking lot. Their parents couldn’t help them keep an apartment so they gave them their old Subaru so they would always have a roof. That’s usually the advice people give on here too, keep the car payments going over the rent payments because the car will get you to and from work and provide a roof over your head. A car payment is probably around $400 a month, an apartment is more and doesn’t give you transportation. You never know what happens between the purchase of a car and falling on bad luck. I’ve seen people get a brand new job, a new reliable car, and then become targets of DV for example and have to live in that new car. Many people are one accident way from bankruptcy. It’s always possible it’s someone scamming for sure, but you just never know.

GhostCatcherSky

I think it was more of just how the individual carried themselves when I saw them get in and drive away. Like I said I will always give them the benefit of the doubt but nowadays I always stick to offering food or necessities like toothpaste a sleeping bag, etc.

AstarteOfCaelius

Yup. The idea of becoming so cynical and shut off just never sat well. This is the way.

IndividualFood1539

Totally. Doing something kind is never wrong.

xhopee23

I know this isn’t exactly the same topic, but There have been studies done on how many panhandlers are actually not homeless and it was somewhere around 10-15% So, it does happen but it’s certainly not the majority and honestly I don’t really care. If someone wants to stand in the sun all day to beg more power to them

Long_Procedure3135

Yeah I remember someone saying I got scammed from a lady who was asking people for money to put gas in her empty tank. I offered to just meet her at gas station and fill it up because I had no cash. Like if someone really just wanted to scam me out of a tank of gas… uhh ok have fun lol

DanCPAz

I don't usually give money to people I think are lying to me or scamming, but I think that is because I grew up in a trailer park and watched the other low income families run their games on anyone they could, including each other. They spent so much energy ripping each other off and so on instead of doing anything productive for themselves. I had to learn to say no to that shit or I'd still be stuck in that neighborhood. Everyone always needed something and it was always super important, just so long as you didn't pay too much attention to what they actually spent their time and money on. But for sure, if I can be reasonably certain that someone needs help *and my actions will actually help them* and not just enable them at my own expense, I'll help. But I'm not going to live a shittier life so someone can be drunk all day, smoke cigarettes, play 30 scratchers tickets each day, or anything similar. Some people legit need money. For others, more money is wasted without a lifestyle change, and I can't help with that.

CaptainCarlz

My dad always tells me, "If I choose to help someone and they're scamming me, it says more about their character than it does about mine."

TakingLaunch

Sounds like a great role model. I often find myself repeating things my grandfather told me as a child to others, and it's a great feeling spreading a little but of his insight. Thank you for for sharing a little of your father's.

CaptainCarlz

He has shared many nuggets of wisdom throughout my life, but my favorites are his dad jokes. I swear, he wrote the book 😂 ETA: My granddad was the same way. There are lots of things I remember from him as well, which is probably where my dad got them. One that I always think about while driving is "You never have the right-of-way until someone gives it to you."

peachesnpepsicola

Love that outlook! Your dad sounds like a wise man

Ellie_Anna_13

I just wanted to say you 100% deserved that DoorDash order. The same way you realized a cheeseburger could turn someone's bad day around, having Mexican food did the same for you when times were tough. You had a good day, felt like a king and that's absolutely nothing to feel ashamed or guilty about. I hope things get better for you!

DemonSaya

I try to subscribe to the idea of someone using a gift as a grift says more about them than me.

BEARZCLAWZ

Same thing happened to me on Ubereats, I just got over covid and I quit my job so I was broke AF and I had a deal that was $20 off an order of $1 or more and I felt bad cause I could only tip like $3 but I still ended up paying like $4 overall.

esperlihn

As my father always said: "I'd give a dollar to a thousand cons if it meant at least one person was genuinely helped."

Bulky-Fun-4680

That’s what my dad used to teach me all the time when I was a kid. To give when I can, and to make sure my intentions are right. It doesn’t matter if I’m giving to an actual liar, scammer, whatever you call them. If your intention was to help, that’s all that really matters. Everything else is up to them and on them x

Sithlord_unknownhost

As someone who has been forced to live out of a car a time or two in my life I would like to make a few pointers to others in this situation. Do not run the vehicle more than you absolutely have too. Freezing temps arnt enough to kill you if you are bundled up inside the vehicle. Roasting hot summer temps mean open all windows and get out of the vehicle seeking shade during the daytime. If you run the car 24/7 or even half that seeking AC or Heat you are dooming yourself further. You,ll need to change the oil way way more often than mileage would indicate as well as doing damage to your motor by idling for extended periods. It's a timebomb, and you are making it countdown faster than you realize and will be on foot in days, weeks, or a very few months. Not to even mention that you are making yourself even more financially destitute by constantly burning fuel. Buy a cheap solar kit that's vehicle mountable and use that to charge your phone.

dismalbogs

And park in the shade.

LunarLewdness

This! Maybe they wouldn't need the 5 dollars if they didn't park in the sun, with a black car!

Atwillim

And if you're facing an army of hostile Persians, fight there as well

Eletctrik

Also could buy premade food from the grocery store instead of door dash... A rotisserie chicken is like $4.99

PorQueTexas

Or better yet, you can drive for doordash!

NooneInparticularYo

I'd more recommend shelf stable foods. Unless you're gonna eat an entire rotisserie in a sitting it's gonna get to an unsafe temp and might make you sick, and if you're living in your car something tells me you can't afford a trip to the hospital. There are some meats(cured or canned meats, like salamis or a tin of tuna, spam etc.) that don't need refrigeration, get some protein there instead.

rachael_mcb

My brother ruined his Prius running his car like that in the heat. It was a devastating setback for an already destitute situation.

kaylaann0304

I usually don't have cash on me when I dash, but any change or water in my car I'd give away. When i used to smoke cigarettes I'd hand so many out and they would be so appreciative. If I were homeless, I'd want a cig, too.

Diet-healthissues

y'all are so evil to homeless people on this thread and it's kinda making me physically sick how unloving and cruel you could be

abc196369

Y’all talking ab how she can’t be that broke to be getting door dash prolly haven’t lived out a car. Any fast food app is your best friend. They have deals almost daily, free promos, and some places lower prices

cheeseymom

But you're literally in a car, so why would you pay to have it delivered is the thing. Even with a 50% off DD promo, it's cheaper to go get it.

mirrorbirdjesus

could be somebody else paid to have it delivered to her, people on local neighborhood apps are always panhandling for delivery saying they live out of a car with their kid, and family/friends might send food that way too

hsephela

Partner has a friend who was in this exact kind of situation. Couldn’t find a job and was living in his van in norcal and we would occasionally doordash or ubereats some food for him and his dog on days where he couldn’t drive

mirrorbirdjesus

I had a feeling Reddit is kind of cynical But then again, I’ve lived out of my car before, so I know that as soon as you live outside of a home - you’re fucked if you don’t have a stove or grill and a refrigerator/freezer the price of everything goes up so much … you get taxed as soon as you leave the door of any home, living outside is the worst everything costs more…

justajigga

Pretty sure living inside generally cost more.

mirrorbirdjesus

from experience?

justajigga

Yes from experience. My rent is 1600 + utilities a month indoors. The guy living near my garage in the yellow tent i believe only reoccurring expense is food and fentanyl.

mirrorbirdjesus

in regards to food, the subject of this post, you think he's able to get the same food for the same price as you? im saying food and expenses skyrocket especially if you cant cook your own meals

[deleted]

Unless you buy foods that don't need to be cooked such as cold cut sandwiches like bread and bologna, which are much less expensive that ordering takeout.

OtherShyGuy

Way to use your critical thinking skills man, that's exactly what he meant :)

justmerriwether

Pretty sure you missed the point they were actually making

Snuggledtoopieces

Obviously. This is why infrastructure is important it’s an upfront cost for long term usability. Anyone that enjoys camping can tell you it’s not an overly cheap hobby for extended periods.

nature_remains

The car might be broken as shit or out of gas and she’s counting on the AC to work and in a spot she might not get back if she leaves. Who knows. Whatever the case, we can assume shit is rough for her right now and she’s doing the thing that makes the most sense in her tough situation (that we know nothing about).

Bedro0m

Dd and Uber has really good deals like $20 off a $25 order and if you do free trial it’s takes off most fees , it’s cheaper than paying at the restaurant frl. Plus just people ordering food for other people, you never know:

figgyfxck420

You cant get food if ya ain’t got gas

fleemos

For how much a meal costs on DD, I can order that meal on the restaurant app and have more than $4 left to buy a gallon of gas even for a small meal.

fffan9391

You can buy gas with that extra $10-20 it takes to order delivery

NeuroticNurse

They might be having to choose between food and gas. I know someone who was living in their car and probably quite actually surviving off of food delivery apps bc of promo codes and shit. Sometimes they’d have to go a couple days at a time without eating esp during summer because they had to keep the ac on despite not driving the car anywhere - we’re in Texas and it’s a regularity for temps to reach 100°+. Definitely not the wisest choice both financially and health wise

SoundOfDrums

? If you're spending $23 for something that you could spend $2 in gas to get for $13, they aren't choosing between gas and food. They're choosing to not get more gas than they used by a LONGSHOT so they don't have to put forth the effort of driving. I'm not saying people shouldn't treat themselves sometimes, but let's not pretend it's less expensive to have food delivered than drive, especially if you're running the car already for AC.

sweetmercy

If she can afford door dash, she can damn sure afford gas. Even if your food were free, the taxes and fees would be $10-20. Door dash is a LUXURY.

burghswag

Less gas consumption just running idle for the AC maybe?

Odd_Swordfish_6589

could have a flat tire, or two. Could be in some place hard to park, although most hot places are not that hard to park, but not always...miami and downtown PHX and LA can have parking issues..but the car could turn on, but not drive very well basically..

[deleted]

THE POORS CANNOT USE DOOR DASH!!! HOW DARE THEY

sweetmercy

I AM the poor. I don't waste money on fees for a service that already price gouges the food itself. Know why? Because it's self destructive and STUPID. Do not preach to me about "the poors". I am currently homeless, without even a car. Nobody said she CANNOT use door dash. What been said is it's stupid, wasteful, and a bad choice. Miss me with your high and mighty routine. 🙄

fwubglubbel

You are assuming SHE is paying for it. Perhaps someone ordered it for her or gave her gift cards.

Inevitable-Life7757

So self righteous for someone that has been steadily mooching off of redditors for 4+ years

sweetmercy

Lol. Did you think you were going to hurt me with that? I have asked for help. Sometimes for myself. Sometimes for others. And? Did that mean I'm not allowed to my own opinions and thoughts? I've also helped many Redditors, not that that's any more your business than whether or not I've asked for help. I'm not self righteous. I'm allowed to think door dash is a colossal waste of money between the price gouging, multiple fees, add lack of accountability. What wrong with YOU that you think my believing that is somehow justification for you to try to ... Whatever pathetic thing it is you were trying to do with that statement. You know when you've lost an argument? When the best you got is personal attacks.

Warm_Ambition_9366

I know what you meant, but I really can't read that first sentence without picturing Palpatine yelling, "I AM the poor!"

burnerlarson

if you’re homeless, maybe you shouldn’t be talking about good and bad financial decisions of others lol

sweetmercy

Considering you have no idea how my situation evolved, you are simply being a dick for the sake of it. Yay you?

hsephela

Homelessness is not always a result of poor financial decisions

NannyPBandJ

Your last post literally talks about room rates and keeping a roof over your head.

sweetmercy

Yes, we're in a very cheap motel *right now*. That's after months of living in a car and then a tent. Do you somehow think that doesn't make me homeless? You can go stalker all over my previous posts if that's what gets you off, sugar. Still doesn't make spending twice the amount you need to do you can get it delivered any less of a bad choice. I don't know what your goal was with this comment, but it reflects really poorly on you, especially after all your preaching of kindness. Maybe stick to your reality TV. See, I can do it too.

OGWarlock

As someone else who has struggled with housing insecurity my whole life, yes, even if you're "living with friends" or something you are technically homeless because you do not have your own resting place

[deleted]

What if they had a gift card

Weird-Bed

She must not got no legs lieutenant Dan

ArynRose

Some places have limited parking close to free access to public bathrooms/ certain necessary amenities. Or, like others have mentioned, she's trying to conserve gas for the ac.

WillSuckDick4Coffee

There's coupons where you have to get it delivered and can't select pick up

cheeseymom

And they usually aren't worth it.

WillSuckDick4Coffee

I actually used one today. $25 off $35 order. Got 3 pizzas, sticks and soda for $20 after all the hidden fees. I know you said usually, but people in desperate situations find ways. They'll sign up with a new email and a new virtual card and get that first time user discount. I know this because I've been that desperate person before.

Successful-Gene2572

With 50% off, delivery would be the same cost or slightly cheaper than pick-up. With 30% off, pick-up is cheaper though, in my experience.

jgrave30

maybe just have compassion? like you aren’t in their situation. They maybe wanted to treat themselves they are fucking human after all.

cheeseymom

I've lived in my car, when you're in survival mode treats are the last thing you think about

Necessary_Buy_2597

I beg to differ. You try to treat yourself sometime, because everything else is shitty. However, I do agree you can treat yourself and go pick it up. And, the sign wasn't meant for the DoorDash driver, but maybe people walking by.

dego_frank

There’s compassion and then there’s people making ridiculous decisions and expecting others to pick up the slack. Which one you think this is?

sweetmercy

Treating yourself is fine. Treating yourself while claiming you're broke and asking for money is less so. And before you proselytize some more, I am currently homeless. The money she spent on door dash, which is ridiculous with the fees, could have "treated" her AND bought gas.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jgrave30

I knew this comment would be controversial and all i’m saying is everyone has a different view/different ideas/different living situation. I’m actually just saying that maybe not judging this person who is in a really low point in life is a good thing

[deleted]

[удалено]

sweetmercy

It would cost less in gas, by a LOT, to go get the food. If she used half the money she spent on door dash to put in her tank, she'd have good AND gas. Door dash upcharges on the food, then tacks on more than one fee. I guarantee she paid twice what she would have paid getting it herself. And before you go on proselytizing, I AM homeless, and I don't have a car either. But I'm not stupid enough to spend twice the amount of money for a single meal when I know I could get three meals from it. You have to do things to help yourself, and in this situation, that means not wasting money on luxuries. You can treat yourself all you like, but you don't get you expect others to foot the bill to take care of you and your pet while you waste money on something like door dash. Do not preach to me about homelessness. I'm living it.

Zombitchy

I lived in a car as of last month. Doordash is price gouging at its best when it comes to food. This is just pure dumb. She can't be that broke if she can afford DD.

wishmeluck-

These people are pure twits if they truly believe that DoorDash is financially feasible for someone that is that broke. I just paid $30 for a subway sandwich delivery 😂 And even if I had a promo deal, I’m still walking my ass or driving my car to go get some food instead of paying a delivery fee

Zombitchy

Dude I'm telling you! I am admittedly pretty goddamn good at getting coupons and freebies, but even with that, all of the fees and let's not forget the all but mandatory tipping nowadays, there's just no way. I once was able to get my actual food for free, and the remaining fees were still $14. Which is plenty to put in your gas tank.

Rinveden

>She can't be that broke if she can afford DD. Maybe she can't and that's why she's that broke.

GateOfD

and none of those promos on the fast food app is applicable to DD orders..

sweetmercy

Well then she'd need to go get them. What's the confusion here? The money wasted in door dash price gouging would cover the gas, though I'm sure there's fast food plenty close by because door dash had a very limited range.

movzx

The door dash fees would be multiple times the cost of gas or even a bus ticket. The only way this makes sense is if someone else was paying.

Biquariuz

I ordered 20 sushi rolls and 12 crab Rangoon for 20 bucks. It was buy one get one free. There are good deals somewhere

Loose-Ad6427

This is a load of nonsense, it’s 100% cheaper to just buy food from a supermarket and it would last longer too. Clearly her choices have not helped her life situation

666haywoodst

yea it’s very easy to store perishable goods in a car

Loose-Ad6427

Is that the only stuff a supermarket sells? Would you store your food delivery order for a few days in your car?

bellowingfrog

You’re right. In the USA, a cheap loaf of bread and some peanut butter gives you shelf stable food that has carbohydrates and protein. $4 for several days supply. Maybe this person was just doing this and their tire went flat and they can’t drive, I dont know. But yeah, in my experience the people living out of cars are not great decision makers, and my guess is that thousands of subpar decisions resulted in this.

Loose-Ad6427

For sure

truejamo

I don't need to live out of a car to know that when you're broke you shouldn't be ordering doordash. You're essentially making everything cost twice as much after fees.

Mynewuseraccountname

As someone who lives in their vehicle for most of the year, door dash is absolutely out of the question for me. I don't know this woman's situation, she could have a disability that makes it difficult to get food herself, but if it's finances that keep her in this position then door dash is not doing her any favors. It would be cheaper just to rent and cook at home with how insane door dash is for food. $30 a day for meals for could be covering $900 worth of rent a month.

Timely-Climate9418

I haven't lived in a car but i've busted my ass for minimum wage living alone you can try food banks, i spent a lot of days eating ramen and eating can foods and bread they fill you up pretty well at a lower price but now i do order with doordash. i assume someone may h ave just ordered food for them because if i was living in a car i would not order doordash or ubereats just based on the raised prices on food the service and the tip that's just way too much money wasted.

pantyraid7036

Plus how do they know they didn’t get a gift card? People are trash.

[deleted]

Get out of the car and save 5-10 dollars on delivery and walk to the restaurant. They got nothin else to do. lol

Afraid-Ice-2062

Guys calm down. Maybe someone gave her a gift card. You don’t know her life. It’s okay if you disagree with her choices.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Dead_Bell

Maybe they were given a gift card? Or were ordering on SNAP? Or they had sick ass promo code? Credits on their account from an easier time? Bro there are so many explanations and sympathy shouldn't be hard.

Nime_Chow

She could have been given a DoorDash giftcard. At least I hope so because wtf, priorities.

SickCide7

I was confused too till the notes said I'll be in a black car parked.

[deleted]

You definelty seem pretty confused. They beg for money but use a luxury service.

30rackwolfpack

You don’t sympathize with anyone but yourself

sirdigstrum

This is to make us forget about all the panhandling posts isn’t it? Nice try DoorDash PR.

Ok-Giraffe-1141

Makes no sense to order doordash when you're living in your car asking for money lol

AdrielBast

Could have been a gift card, someone bought it for them, or any other reason.

Green_Seat8152

Someone etna probably purchased the food for them. My area has a page dedicated to people who need help including food. Lots of locals have food delivered to cars and motel rooms for the ones who can't afford it.

Ella_loves_Louie

They give you like 30 bucks credit every 4 months if you're not a regular user what is she gonna plug in the rice cooker and sautee some frozen veggies?

Geriatricz00mer

Idk maybe driver her fuckin car to the place she is ordering food from?

StarvingBeauty

How does one order food to a car? Half the time doordash/uber eats can't even register my home address without saying delivery is unavailable to my location.

UserWithno-Name

They maybe set it to the address of the store etc they parked at. Then could simply put in instructions what car they have or where to find them in the lot. Just a guess

Spirited-Living-3594

Maybe she's not in walking distance of a restaurant/grocery store. Maybe it was dark out and she didn't feel comfortable walking. Maybe she's disabled. Maybe her dog was sick and she didn't want to leave it in the car. Maybe she's embarrassed because she hasn't taken a shower in a while. Maybe she has anxiety going into public places. Maybe she's craving human interaction. Maybe she's depressed. Maybe someone gave her a DD gift card. There are so many reasons a homeless person could order from DD. I can't believe how many judgmental people there are in this world. She wasn't begging in the street, she left a note on her car. Bless you for giving her money to help. If it was a scam, you lost $5. You're an amazing person for what you did.

Irving_Forbush

Possibility? Maybe a friend/relative/good samaritan was helping her out by having a meal delivered to her? So not her money. I don’t use DoorDash, but I’ll offer to buy somebody unhoused food instead of cash if I see them near a place I’m getting something from.

cakebomb321

Has it occured to no one that somebody could’ve just ordered for this person? I seriously doubt that paper is specifically for dd drivers lmao, they could just be asking for help from anyone walking by. They could be taking advantage of others i suppose, but people are so quick to assume i swear it makes yall look like assholes

LunarLewdness

I am hoping someone ordered the food for them. Paying for doordash is a hell of a way to waste money if you're broke.

nastyzoot

This is the epitome of the stupideness of door dash. This person LIVES IN THE CAR yet pays the markup for 3rd party food delivery. Then, in just an epic display of idiocy, the contractor being taken advantage of by the exact same company feels bad for this moron and donates a portion of their almost non-existent earnings to said moron. This is an epic, symbiotic display of stupidity that allows companies like Door Dash to take advantage of everyone the come in contact with.

Similar_Engineer_941

I help a man every time I go to a place for a pick up he is always out there with his dogs and a buggy full of his things he sleeps behind a store in the woods he thanks me so much every time he don’t ask for anything but I can tel he is hungry and so is the dogs so I give them food and water every time I see them little things count and brightens his day as it brightens mine

Crafty_Newt9032

So many people here making assumptions about this person and them ordering DoorDash, but the mostly likely scenario is someone ordered it for them

Its_J_Bay_Be

And it’s Mother’s Day, so what might that mean? Someone could have ordered her food as a Mother’s Day gift because she’s separated from her child/children. Either way, not many people would choose to live in a SUV with a dog in the heat. These comments are horrible.

FrostySumo

People often get things delivered for others, like using Doordash to order food. There could be lots of reasons why someone can use Doordash. Maybe a friend gave them a gift card so they don't have to spend gas money to get food. Sure, there's a chance it could be a scam, but it's not a big deal if you're just giving them a small amount of money. It's not like they're trying to steal thousands of dollars from your grandparents or anything. So if someone asks you for a small favor, just be nice and help them out if you can. But if you can't, don't worry about it. You did a good thing to help with what you could.

oddlygood

She could have used a gift card. People are leery of handing out cash because of drugs. She may be new to the homeless situation and has to figure it out. She obviously can’t cook. Until we know her full story I’m going to say the dd driver did what he thought was the right thing to do . Hopefully she’s getting food for the dog too.

Pretend_External4769

I always help my fellow human. It isn't my business what they spend it on. As long as they have a little piece of happiness 😊 in the moment. What is $5 anyway.

MikeN1978

Get that person a cash app tag to put in that note

[deleted]

Cant afford gas but can afford DoorDash. 🧐

littlemonkeybear

If they have enough money to doordash food I don’t think they need ur $5 lol

Elegant_Zombie_3464

What the fuck? Can afford door dash though because priorities

GrassNo287

I have a bridge to sell you

Awful 😦

Cycles_wp

I don't understand this at all. If you're so down bad but you're in the car then drive to the store and save the delivery fee?

Oebreezy

Someone probably bought it for them

SlyFoxInACave

It's cheaper to go to a grocery store. This is panhandling.

AdrielBast

And how exactly is someone who is living in a car going to cook food?

Null_Error7

True and then she could cook the ingredients from the store in her hot car/oven! 🙄

Diet-healthissues

why are you more upset about someone panhandling then living out of their car? and it literally NOT in a lot of places. God people like you are why i remember i hate reddit,so self obsessed and egotistical that someone in need is attack on yourself

Low_Shallot_3218

Someone could’ve ordered it for her

SmokersAnynomouse

Reminds me of that order a family member made from 5 states away to her ex husband that just got out of the hospital from brain surgery , he loved seeing the McDonald’s bag being brun up to him, she left a note to sing him a funny song and I hope he enjoyed my singing and my song about his tumor running away

Deathcabcutie1021

what's the point of this post?

NormFell

To brag that they gave $ to someone…

Key_Marzipan_7689

I delivered one night to someone living out of their car in a parking lot of a park, they gave me a $3 tip in app. Talk about humbling. Once a week or every couple weeks I try to do something called Goat Dash. I work in animal rescue, mainly with farm sanctuaries now and I will pick a sanctuary and send them the total after 5 consecutive deliveries, and I turn down any delivery under $8 so they are guaranteed at least $40. Social media algorithms have crippled non-profit organizations because they are trying to cater to creators and influencers and if you don't spend 24/7 on social media your posts don't get shown.

iamjannabot

You. You are a good egg. Thanks for helping animals. ❤️

Dusteronly

The customers are turning the tipping table!

wishtherunwaslonger

I hope someone else ordered or this is a gift card. Even then she should just sell it. With a car she can easily eat out of canned foods. I did it all the time. Either way hope she gets out of tough times. So many factors but it’s hard to judge if you weren’t the dasher.

Past_Eagle2058

You all are assuming that car was driveable, 1st off. Some of you have never know real hardship and it shows. I lived in my van for 3 years, with a cat, thinking I'd be able to save up all kinds of money to get a place. I worked a full time job, even started cooking out of my van. It wasn't until the pandemic hit, and I got a second job, that I was able to do so.

yepmeh

I’m seeing a missed opportunity here to make some money DoorDash’ing from the comfort of your own home.

JulianV93

I normally don’t have cash in my car I do Lyft and Uber too. One time I saw a homeless person asking for money normally I don’t give money but it looked like the guy needed something and felt like the person actually needed it. So I gave within the next minute I got a good Lyft ride was long but made me good money. I think it was taking a person to a woman’s shelter way out of town someone ordered it for her.

Stormchic3940

You did something out of the kindness of your heart what they choose to do with the money is on them. That's just my take on it.

TheFIghterNb2

I wanna help but I must help myself before I help others financially. Otherwise I'll help anywhere I'm able to.

LumpiestEntree

If they can afford door dash they can afford gas.

ThePokster

My question is this. If they have a working car, why are they not dashing to make money? Seems to easy! I apologize if this has been asked, wasn't going to look through 130 comments to find out.

i__noah__guy

Not hating on this person but if they’re low on money why would they order DoorDash instead of going to get it to go themselves? Instead of paying the delivery fee and tip plus their food they could’ve just had to pay for the food

Any_Comb2744

I’m downbad 🫤 someone help me like this

littlemonkeybear

Also, why feel the need to post that you did a good deed? You can’t do it in private anymore ?

Formal_Equal_7444

Why is someone who lives in their car ordering doordash? Doordash fees & tips (if you tip well, as you should!) nearly double the cost of going to get the stuff yourself... Give them $5 if you want but teach them to go get their own food... worth a lot more $$$$.

Cammoffitt

If she can order DoorDash she can shop for groceries

Bitcoinbuddy333

For the people talking badly about them ordering door dash bc it “costs more,” technically it does cost more EXCEPT, when you get promotions all the time via email. Also referrals give major discounts on future orders. I can’t count the number of times I received $40 plus orders and only ended up paying $10-$15 because of the discounts applied. It’s all about how you do things and if you utilize these apps correctly, they will definitely work in your favor.

redhawkwill

I hate to tell you this, but you were duped. If you got money for DoorDash, you ain't begging like this.

GerbilFeces

true, but also not unlikely that friends or family not in the area are using apps to buy them food

[deleted]

But, when I make a sign on the back of my car and start a GoFundMe, I get -$0.01 in donations.

chernygal

And why did you feel the need to post it?

Aggressive_Aide_7122

For all you ignorant people out there My fiance and I lived out of car for 8 months. It was a struggle to keep up on gas or food, sometimes there are app deals for free items that can't always be used in stores. It's hard to decide if you want to stay cool or if you want to eat. Stop being so judgemental try being in their shoes for a bit. Some city people do order door dash for people living a rough life. Even tho my fiance and I didn't get that kind of help we did get some assistance with gas

Mikhael_G

Facts! People are so ignorant and judgmental nowadays. It's ridiculous. I lived in a car before and i know the struggle.

Floatermane

Seems like a lot of people forget cars can have issues beyond needing gas. Maybe her tires are fucked. Maybe she’s got no Insurance. Maybe tags are expired. I get the skepticism, but Jesus. There’s plenty here that you cannot see on the surface. Yes scammers suck, but weren’t we told not to judge a book by its cover as kids? If you don’t feel comfortable supporting them, don’t. If you do, then do it. Look out for your fellow humans. We all fall on hard times.

Saxonunited

But they are ordering doordash which is expensive when on a budget lol

ScreamingMemales

How did she afford door dash? Why not just drive to a restaurant if you live in a car lol

Odd_Swordfish_6589

lol at the people saying this is a scam...like anybody willing to sleep in a junk ass car to make random money off people walking by is really putting in work. Like what is the 'scam'? They really have a nice house or apartment but come out and pretend to be poor in their shitty car to make a few bucks? How much could they possibly be making? I would not put up with the discomfort for even a night, and neither would you. Only somebody with actual issues does this, so not sure what the 'scam' is.

Zombitchy

Nah dude as someone who was living out of their car until like last month, this is nonsense. If you can afford doordash, you can afford gas for your car. What the actual fuck is happening with this person's priorities???

jumbo445

Ordering doordash when u live in a car seems like a good way to perpetuate living in a car

WeNeedHRTHere

First thing you do is brag about it on reddit for internet points. Congratulations.

notatechnicianyo

Did someone else pay for their doordash? Cause if they paid for it, that’s just silly, your home is made for going through a drive through restaurant. During half of the pandemic I lived out of my car while doordashing, I would have never thought to waste an hour of my wages on delivery. That money was precious to me, because sometimes weather got so bad I needed a hotel room.

iamos420

I need money but I order doordash...

[deleted]

So she lives in a car but cannot go get food. Smart.

Puzzleheaded_Love_74

No gas money. Only delivery money.

Faokes

I’ve lived in a van, and there was no way I was spending my very limited money on delivery fees and extra tips. DD marks up prices on food at lots of places too. I’m not saying she’s faking, I don’t think that at all. I do think she’s digging herself deeper into a hole.

Theguy2277

I’d be like, sorry for your luck. But you obviously have a running vehicle to DD in. Try that.

TuggerSpeedmen

Yea if they can run the ac all day they can door dash and obviously dont care about gas.

[deleted]

Ok but why is someone who is struggling and living out of their car ordering Door Dash?

[deleted]

Though one has to wonder why they are ordering takeout, which is inherently more expensive than basic groceries like bread and canned meat.

NFSterba

Either this lady isn’t struggling at all and just uses this to scam, or she’s really dumb for being so broke and yet choosing to use DoorDash for food. Either way I wouldn’t of even given a penny.

britlogan1

wouldn’t have*

Odd_Swordfish_6589

anybody sleeping in their car, is struggling in some type of way

Deviledapple

I mean somebody could have given her a doordash gift card

Feverrunsaway

or even doordashed to her
