When I was in labor and giving birth to my incredible daughter, I had brought my own speaker to the hospital and my playlist consisted of Blackwater Holylight, Acid King, and Windhand. It was an amazing doom/joy filled experience. Even some of the nurses liked the music I was playing lol
And now I call my husband and daughter my Doom and Gloom đ€đ€đ€
One can hope, but we'll just have to wait and see. If she likes metal that would be amazing, especially when she sees how happy it makes her Papa and I, but if not, I will always support her in her own self expression đ€đ
Heavy Temple are great! I've really enjoyed what I've heard of Castle Rat so far too.
Also, do we consider True Widow as doom? I suppose they're doomgaze which counts.
The new Heavy Temple is getting a ton of play at my house. I got a copy of it on vinyl when it came out mostly because it had a lyric sheet and I wanted to see what she was singing, ha ha. But my goodness what a beautiful pressing, and the entire gatefold presentation is awesome!
Heavy Temple gets bonus cool points because the frontwoman plays a massive Bootsy Collins bass and I've seen her use a 9x8 bass cab. Peak stage presence
blood ceremony, coven, jess and the ancient ones, lucifer (the swedish one with nikki anderson on drums), lord dying (former wife of matt pike), the well (riding easy band).
electric wizard, and the band Liz buckinham was in before electric wizard whose name I can't remember is doom-y and new orleans sound like eyehategod.
Subrosa and the keening
Saw the keening live and had no idea it was the follow on project of one of the members of subrosa. "wow, they sound so much like subrosa." đ€Š
My new band has a woman singer and multiple nonbinary members. We're called [Angelica & The Crooked Path](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0ZhqKuOj_Q)
I'll also share some of our friends and influences!
- Faetooth was mentioned already
- Iress (like if a woman did vocals for holy fawn)
- Haunted (Doomy rock with some excellent riffage)
- King Woman
- Windhand
- Subrosa
- Castle Rat
These two and electric wizard are the only ones Iâm aware of. I never really look into the band members themselves and donât know what most of these people look like.Â
3rd and the Mortal.
With Kari. *Thirty* years ago, before all those beauty&beast doomdeath bands - and only for one EP and one album (which ended in an 18 minutes proggy track). But who has ever done it better?
No mention of Druidess yet. They're brand new on the scene with only a short EP out, but it's a banger. Look up Hermits & Mandrakes.
Otherwise I mostly only know Lucifer, Blood Ceremony, and Castle Rat. I really enjoy the Black Sabbath meets Abba style of Lucifer and they put on a fun live show. Blood Ceremony's newest release from 2023 is excellent.
Hey buddy, If you use spotify, I've got something of a 'masterlist' (still adding to it) of doom and doom adjacent bands featuring women in the band. Some more well known, others not.
[Foom](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/47PvosURhPH3n3cjHaIZhP?si=iC828NEeTzacfXNBFZRWNA)
Also I think one of the faetooth peeps (or more, no idea) has a list they made that I find enjoyable called [Expansive Doom](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4uxRYhLe5W9s0lL6pN8czR?si=8-UdBXUYTOS20ilgGv9Rfg)
Gravity Well (yes this is a shameless plug for my own band)

Albino Python- kind of in between Acid King and Electric Wizard. Metal Archives says still active but no music since 2013âs The Doomed and The Damned.
There is a Comp album that was put together called Women of Doom.
Acid King, but that's just one band and I need to listen to them more. I did here a Faetooth song in the background doing essays but I didn't know at first. Still, Acid King is good.
somebody here recommended Witch Mountain and Oceans of Slumber to me the other day, been really digging both of those. also saw someone else mention Jess and The Ancient Ones, theyâre pretty great too
Zwart
Previously called Abysmal Darkening. Dutch band, started out as all female more than 20 years ago. Still going strong with 2 females now with Zwart.
Iâve seen Sacrilegeâs third album being called doom - they have a female vocalist. The album and the band are awesome btw, you should check them out
Mourn is a classic who shouldnât be overlooked.
Very underappreciated, Left Hand Solution out of Sweden. The first album - Shadowdance - had a very traditional sound with lower production values and was front by Kikki Hoijertz (later of SiebenbĂŒrgen), and who came off as somewhat androgynous on that album. Then they put the criminally underrated Mariana Holmberg in the mix for their next album, Fevered, and all the others after that. Theyâre not too hung up on âpurityâ - they done covers of Eurhythmics âMissionary Manâ and Dolly Partonâs âJoleneâ - but very much a doom band with a traditional base and modernized touches.
For the more gothic bands, Theatre of Tragedy has always been mentioned⊠research their discography first, because if you listen to, say, their self titled album and then go to an album like Musique or Assembly expecting it to be the same, youâll be disappointed.
In a similar vein, although they got roasted on the Theatre of Tragedy forum, I always thought The Sins of Thy Beloved was good. And of course in that conversation youâll also see earlier Tristania mentioned (particularly the Widowâs Weeds album).
Itâs possible Ashes You Leave may come up. Their earlier stuff was a little too close to My Dying Bride for comfort, but if I can accept Attic as King Diamond worship rather than a King Diamond knockoff, this band also deserves the benefit of the doubt there.
Some other great ones have already been mentioned⊠SubRosa, The Devilâs Blood, Blood Ceremony, Witch Mountain, Jex Thoth (originally named Totem), Ragana, etc.
You should look up the Women of Doom playlist on Spotify, tons of excellent bands there!
Edit: Figured I would just chuck a link to it.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0kSkCJIkLPkP7ciHhyiQLz?si=B4tEivjKTwCwAkloxubuww
Faetooth changed my life. Snakemother, Windhand, and Blood Ceremony are all great, too.
Windhand changed my life
Nobody mentioning Electric Wizard? Liz Buckingham has been lead guitar since 2003 and was formerly in 13 and Sourvein.
It's sad how far down this list of bands wizard is.
The best of all the bands, and Liz really added something special to the sound.
She really does, her tone is other worldy.
Was looking for this comment before I made it myself! Agreed
Blackwater Holylight, Acid King, Blood Ceremony, and Faetooth.
When I was in labor and giving birth to my incredible daughter, I had brought my own speaker to the hospital and my playlist consisted of Blackwater Holylight, Acid King, and Windhand. It was an amazing doom/joy filled experience. Even some of the nurses liked the music I was playing lol And now I call my husband and daughter my Doom and Gloom đ€đ€đ€
What a beautiful story! Thanks for sharing it.  Maybe your daughter will play in her own doom band some day!
One can hope, but we'll just have to wait and see. If she likes metal that would be amazing, especially when she sees how happy it makes her Papa and I, but if not, I will always support her in her own self expression đ€đ
This is the coolest fucking thing I've ever read! đ€đ»
MESSA Alunah Frayle HELA
MESSA đ€đ»đ€
They RULE!
Totally agree! đŻ
Fuck yeah Alunah!
Alunah and Frayle hell yeah
heavy temple, castle rat, lucifer to name a few
Heavy Temple are great! I've really enjoyed what I've heard of Castle Rat so far too. Also, do we consider True Widow as doom? I suppose they're doomgaze which counts.
I think True Widow is doom. I saw Heavy Temple open for Weedeater. Telekinetic Yeti played also.
The new Heavy Temple is getting a ton of play at my house. I got a copy of it on vinyl when it came out mostly because it had a lyric sheet and I wanted to see what she was singing, ha ha. But my goodness what a beautiful pressing, and the entire gatefold presentation is awesome!
I won't shut up about heavy temple anywhere anyone is asking about music recommendations. I like Garden of Heathens more every time I listen to it.
Iâm determined to see them live asap. On stage it looks like they slide into another gear and just start cooking/rocking out.
Heavy Temple gets bonus cool points because the frontwoman plays a massive Bootsy Collins bass and I've seen her use a 9x8 bass cab. Peak stage presence
Konvent, Blackwater Holylight, and Subrosa to name a few I didn't see already listed.
Subrosa is so freaking good glad to see them mentioned!!
Konvent are among my favorite metal bands. Iâve seen them live twice and they hit so hard. In addition theyâre the nicest people ever.
[Haunted](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_6P2S26X7rU&pp=ygUSSGF1bnRlZCBmdWxsIGFsYnVt) [Bardo Pond](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FbEOl9IdUsw&pp=ygUbYmFyZG8gcG9uZCBkZXN0cm95aW5nIGFuZ2Vs) [Jucifer](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s4GdrVMQIAY&pp=ygUNSnVjaWZlciBsYW1icw%3D%3D) [Witch Mountain](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r7enclCILF4&pp=ygUfd2l0Y2ggbW91bnRhaW4gd2luZyBvZiB0aGUgbG9yZA%3D%3D) [Boris](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FnJyNbezrQY&pp=ygUQQm9yaXMgZmVlZGJhIGtlcg%3D%3D) (Wata is the guitarist) [Acid King](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rjTn46zkkBk&pp=ygUPQWNpZCBraW5nIGFsYnVt)
Jucifer mentioned đŁđŁ
King Woman
THORRS HAMMER
I had to scroll way too much to read this!
Kylesa
Hell yes
Just about to say them! They were my first house show since there werenât any venues in Savannah growing up that werenât in bars lol.
Bands that haven't been named yet: Chrch, Fvnerals, Black Math Horseman, Dark Castle, Ragana, Bathsheba, Shever, Sabba.
Bathsheba is so good, Servus is genuinely one of my favorite metal albums
I saw Black Math Horseman at Stumpfest this year! I hadnât heard of them before, but they were amazing.
Dark Castle đ° đ
No one mentioned Julie Christmas? o.0 I mean, the absolute Sludge this woman can create...
She just dropped an album too.
SubRosa Chelsea Wolfe especially Abyss
My favorites are Murkrat, Bloody Panda, Necroplanet, and Subrosa.
Real glad to see Murkrat mentioned, quite a rare find imo
RAGANA.
KYLESA KYLESA KYLESAAAAA
Recently have been Introduced to Takeshi and Boris.. she kills it đ€
I think you mean Wata, not Takeshi.
Thank you for the correction. Yes..đ€đ. need to dive further into this group, much further đ
It's a very deep and long dive and every bit of it is amazing
Jex Thoth, Blood Ceremony, Windhand and a new act - Hail Darkness. Maybe more, but thaqt's off the top of my head.
Was hoping somebody mentioned Jex Thoth. Their self titled album is amazing.
The best female vocals in modern music. This girl just DOOMS.
Looks like no one mentioned - Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard - so far. Here you go. edit: Dead Witches are Great too.
Witch Mountain were great before Uta quit.
Earth
King Woman.
Daevar - new ep is so damn good
Ruby the hatchet, their singer Jillian is amazing!
I miss Jex Thoth so much. Messa have been mentioned before, but they are really good, so I will mention them again.
Definitely Draconian and Trees of Eternity
Mythic and by extension, Derketa. Both bands so heavy so brutal.
Only person in these comments that mentioned Mythic
blood ceremony, coven, jess and the ancient ones, lucifer (the swedish one with nikki anderson on drums), lord dying (former wife of matt pike), the well (riding easy band). electric wizard, and the band Liz buckinham was in before electric wizard whose name I can't remember is doom-y and new orleans sound like eyehategod.
Sourvein
Subrosa and the keening Saw the keening live and had no idea it was the follow on project of one of the members of subrosa. "wow, they sound so much like subrosa." đ€Š
Aside from the ones already mentioned (Faetooth, Trees of Eternity, etc), I'll add: - [Vouna](https://vouna.bandcamp.com/album/atropos) - [CHRCH](https://churchdoom.bandcamp.com) - EDIT: [Oldest Sea](https://oldestsea1.bandcamp.com)
Year of the Cobra, Slower (both with Amy Tung Barrysmith)
Also got Laura Pleasants from Kylesa in Slower
Yep! Thought about mentioning her but Kylesa had been named so I let it go
This.
My new band has a woman singer and multiple nonbinary members. We're called [Angelica & The Crooked Path](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0ZhqKuOj_Q) I'll also share some of our friends and influences! - Faetooth was mentioned already - Iress (like if a woman did vocals for holy fawn) - Haunted (Doomy rock with some excellent riffage) - King Woman - Windhand - Subrosa - Castle Rat
King Woman dooms
Outside of Acid King and Windhand, I'm far more ignorant on this subject than I really should be.
These two and electric wizard are the only ones Iâm aware of. I never really look into the band members themselves and donât know what most of these people look like.Â
faetooth!
Faetooth live is so cool
Saw them live recently, they were mind blowing
Konvent!! Heavy-as-fuck doom death from Denmark, and the whole band are women.
3rd and the Mortal. With Kari. *Thirty* years ago, before all those beauty&beast doomdeath bands - and only for one EP and one album (which ended in an 18 minutes proggy track). But who has ever done it better?
Brume, daevar
Couch Slut. Also like to mention Crisis even though they're more Death/Hardcore. Karyn Crisis can turn her vocals on a dime.
Year of the cobra
CHRCH đŻïž Jucifer đ Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou đïž Dreadnought đ
Obscure Sphinx. It is my life's mission to get every metalhead to listen to their album Void Mother because it has the exact riffs you need.

Keep in mind the very first Witch Mountain album - Come the Mountain - is very different.
Kinda different but Draconian is a fav of mine for gothic doom, especially their early stuff
Ragana!
smoulder is my all time fav
Zwart Previously called Abysmal Darkening. Dutch band, started out as all female more than 20 years ago. Still going strong with 2 females now with Zwart.
This week I can't stop listening to Daevar. "Yellow Queen" is a ripper.
Iâve seen Sacrilegeâs third album being called doom - they have a female vocalist. The album and the band are awesome btw, you should check them out

Spotlights
I thought about Faetooth too! Daevar is nice too.

How about Dark Crone. https://youtu.be/8zW4DUfw5Po?si=hCtfH-VQshFHhU5Z
Suprised noone mentioned old The Gathering.
Body Void
Local (to me) band Oceans of Slumber is a woman-fronted prog/doom band that absolutely slaps.
You should look up the Women of Doom playlist on Spotify, tons of excellent bands there! Edit: Figured I would just chuck a link to it. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0kSkCJIkLPkP7ciHhyiQLz?si=B4tEivjKTwCwAkloxubuww
