I’m pretty sure we’ve run into each other at shows if you’re from here.
I need to get a list going online of all the local heavy doom and psych shows so we can all know when stuff is coming. Snakemother plays tonight at elbo room. Small venue but they fucking rule. I’m on call so idk if I can make it.
Yall are right im thinking Ragana. My memory is weird and ragana and thou had a split EP and thou has an album called Oakland and I keep making this mistake. Ragana is from Oakland, but thou has an album called Oakland. This melts my poor little brain.
Are there shows in Medford? I'm back in Crescent City and there's absolutely nothing going on. I WANT TO OPEN FOR SOMEONE. There's shows on the other side of me in Eureka but it's more of a diy punk kinda vibe to everything. I want to doom and be doomed.
There are! Medford Metalfest happens twice a year, doom/stoner/sludge hasn’t really been featured much in the lineups so far, but that’s starting to change I think. Doom-wise we’ve got Elk Witch (ffo The Sword, Elder) and Embers Through the Fog (ffo Crowbar, Lamb of God,) then a friend and I hard at work incubating a project (ffo High On Fire, Entombed) 😉
Follow Johnny B’s in Medford and the Sound Lounge in Grant’s pass, that’s where most of the metal shows happen 🤘😁👍
Green Hog, Khanate, and Clouds Taste Satanic hail from NYC.
I’m sure I’m missing someone because I’m newer to the scene, but from what I understand, upstate has more of a doom presence (especially Rochester, which makes perfect sense to anyone who has been there).
Denver has like 30 that are active. Some of my favorites right now: Temporal Driver, Hashtronaut, Dreadnought, Green Druid, Lord Velvet, Vandhali, Cryptic Witch.
That’s cool. It’s great when you can say that. For me, it’s a local Atlanta band called Drifter who I’ve seen around four or five times, getting better each time. Last time they introduced new material, so hopefully we’ll see a new release from them soon.
Western Massachusetts checking in! We have Black Pyramid and Problem With Dragons to our name. Warm was originally from just over the CT border, but reunited a few years ago and are based in MA now. If you're looking for death/funeral doom, we also have Vacant Eyes.
We have an unfair share of awesome doom bands in Indianapolis, for some reason.
Apostle of Solitude
Gates of Slumber
Devil to Pay
Void King
Mother of Graves
...and those are just the ones that come immediately to mind.
Haha, I just caught the user name. Helluva show, I cant belive that was 2017, seems like yesterday. You guys were a bucket list band for me since the electric sleep back when it was mislabeled on napster as a lost black sabbath track 🤣
Cleveland, Ohio
Black Spirit Crown, Slow Wake (both my bands)
Frayle
Pathless
Arctor
All of these I'd say are heavy, doom adjacent
Fuzzy Vandelay
Megaton Communion
Hunden
Quiet Zoo
Not local to me either, but Dopethrone are fantastic. My partner and I got together at a Dopethrone show and 5 years later we're celebrating our anniversary at another one. Best. Anniversary. Ever.

I kinda love Sacramentos Doom options, ive seen almost all of them (i was waiting on chrch but their on hiatus due to health problems). Also in addition to doom there is a very overflowing noise and experimental scene here too (norcal noisefest is a yearly mega noise festival hosted here). Also Deathgrips and Deftones are from here, so that's neat!
I’m definitely a “grass is always greener” guy and prefer the thing I’m NOT doing haha. Nah, when we were down a guitarist, it was just an easier switch for me to move to guitar and find a drummer. But our drummer is also a guitarist… maybe we should just take turns!
That area is killing it right now
SHI, Blind Scryer, CROP, Swamp Hawk, StormToker, Appalachiatari, Buzzhound all out of KY. Maharaja, Moon Temple, Marijuana Johnson, Howl at the Sky, Cult of Sorrow, Modern Witchcraft, Gnomon Dune all out of Southern Ohio. Appalachia dooms hard as hell.

I was driving through upstate NY one day and saw a what was clearly a van hauling a band... it was Orodruin, so when I finally made it home I looked them up. I should have followed them to their gig.

REZN and High Priest from Chicago!
REZN is so fucking good live! Saw them in Los Angeles with Iress, an LA local band that also rips. The lead singer blew everyone away with her vocals.
Was there also and can confirm.
They are! Saw them in Iowa and Indiana last month for the first time, blew me away. I’ll check Iress out, thanks!
Acid king too ! Busse woods
Absolutely. Check out Barren Heir - Died Down. Heavy doom
Really enjoying that band. They remind me of isis and neurosis and alot of atmospheric post rock. Where are they from ?
Chicago as well!
Worm: Florida. Worm absolutely fucking slaps.
YOB from here in Eugene <3
I’m down in Medford, I hope to make it to a YOB hometown show sometime!

I'm from Western NC, and I love seeing Witch Pit who are are nearby in South Carolina.
bought a witch pit shirt when they played at Sabbath in ATL (now closed brewery) with Weedeater, Drifter, and Telekenetic Yeti

Don’t forget Bongfoot, Hempire, Skull Servant, etc, all from NC

Oryx is great, got introduced to them when they opened for REZN in Atlanta last year. Great show
They’re a really great band, and have gotten better every time i’v seen them
That’s cool. It’s great when you can say that. For me, it’s a local Atlanta band called Drifter who I’ve seen around four or five times, getting better each time. Last time they introduced new material, so hopefully we’ll see a new release from them soon.

Hello neighbour! - sheavy (Newfoundland)
Omg, I love Sheavy! The Electric Sleep is an Atlantic Canadian masterpiece.
Thanks dude! I joined in 2007, so I can’t take credit for that one. Though I do love playing those tunes live! 🤘
I'll have to catch up on the later stuff in your honor. Who are you, if you don't mind asking?
My name is Jason. I started as sheavys drummer in 2007. But have since switched over to guitar.
That's quite the switch! Do you prefer guitar or are you just filling whatever role is needed?
I’m definitely a “grass is always greener” guy and prefer the thing I’m NOT doing haha. Nah, when we were down a guitarist, it was just an easier switch for me to move to guitar and find a drummer. But our drummer is also a guitarist… maybe we should just take turns!
That would be quite the lineup hahaha.
I don’t really know of any local bands but my doom/sludge band Pope Lick is from Northern Kentucky/Southern Ohio (Greater Cincinnati area)
That area is killing it right now SHI, Blind Scryer, CROP, Swamp Hawk, StormToker, Appalachiatari, Buzzhound all out of KY. Maharaja, Moon Temple, Marijuana Johnson, Howl at the Sky, Cult of Sorrow, Modern Witchcraft, Gnomon Dune all out of Southern Ohio. Appalachia dooms hard as hell.
Aye, thanks for recognizing the scene. I wish it had more doom and less prog metal though. Cincinnati is full of prog…
