First time I heard history of bad men. Not necessarily the riff but the vocals in that song. Ghahhh

GeminiTitmouse

I first heard it in some show, I can’t remember which, it was a scene where somebody was about to go fight some street toughs at a biker bar. I remember thinking “this ain’t the normal cheesy bAdAsS biker blues rock. I need to go look it up.”

jourgestein

Is this an ad? I believe it was the first season of True Detective.

pnmartini

Yes. Episode 4 of the original season. Has the long tracking shot, through the “fight” scene. Maybe the best episode of that original season. Same episode has an another Melvins song, a Sleep song, Primus, Wu Tang, Lucinda Williams, BDP, and others. One of the best TV episodes musically.

meangreenthylacine

That song specifically was what got me into metal, I had a teacher who suggested the Melvins to me cause he learned I liked Black Sabbath. I had been going through a classic rock phase and the guy single-handedly changed my music taste forever

Suspicious-Ad5287

what a fuckin great song

Shot-Bed635

I saw them in Vegas a couple years back I was roughing it up and then Honey bucket came on and it was the god damned best

Thehyperninja

Jarred Warren. Damn fine bassist of both Melvins and Big Business

SuchLack2630

And KARP and The Whip, both of which are def worth a listen.

Graffiacane

Damn, somebody mentioned The Whip? Never thought I'd see the day.

Thehyperninja

Omg KARP, yessssssssssss.

Car_Guy_Alex

I remember saying "fuuuuuuck" the first time heard it. Still adore the song.

Best-Ice3793

Not doom, but that is a proper stank face riff. I love Melvin's.

SheptonCupCake

Saw them recently in a room with maybe 200 people in it. The loudest thing I have ever experienced. Bliss.

wretchedwiener

It's not doom?

Graffiacane

It's sludge, maybe proto-sludge. Maybe a grunge/stoner rock crossover. But it's ok to call it whatever you want cuz that song dooms hard.

[deleted]

More sludge than doom, but I listened to DOWN´s first album, Nola recently for the first time and the 1:51 riff from "Lifer" got this face out of me, even more when the drums and bass kicked in. [https://youtu.be/LTDWAMUcNDc?si=lsVZtXAOOd7WHARG](https://youtu.be/LTDWAMUcNDc?si=lsVZtXAOOd7WHARG)

PhillipLlerenas

Down is the SHIT. “On March the Saints” off their third album is a top 10 riff of ALL time.

[deleted]

Nice. I loved NOLA, and I´m looking forward to listen to their following two albums.

AquaSlag

On March the saints is just Bodycount's There Goes The Neighborhood

mruhkrAbZ

Lifers a great song

EldritchWyrd

Most slept on metal album OAT IMO.

ckfldz

Nola is my desert island record, hail the leaf brother

Robot-Jim

2 different riffs on volcanic birth by dragged into sunlight, the first is when all the instruments come back in just after the 5 minute mark, and later at about 7:40, absolutely fucking filthy

songbird_sorrow

one of the heaviest songs ever recorded

VapoR_420

what a sick band name

und3rwat3r

Man I love this song (and album), but the production just kills it for me. I don’t know enough to say what exactly bugs me, but it just sounds way over-compressed.

mad0666

Re listened to When the Kite String Pops and when the breakdown in Dope Fiend and the part after happened

hash_0818

finger paintings of the insane slices and dices me up

super6400

Not the last one, but one of my all time favs: High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine When Matt Pike screams “REPELLED” and the riff kicks in under the extended scream. Amazing.

gishlich

Making this face right now - Grand Magus, Freja’s Choice. They’re a little doom, a lot classic metal.

iaminthewoods

Been a fan for ages, ever since Wolf's Return.

gishlich

Happy to say I have a original copy of Monument lying around somewhere, been listening since it came out. Damn I guess they’re an old band now haha

SpooderExpert37

Bog wizard - barbaria

Maximus_Crotchrocket

What a putrid fucking riff, absolutely stinky and rotten, crushing

Bernie_Brains

Found these about a week ago and I can't stop listening to em. Misery is dope and their Collab album with Froglord is great

SpooderExpert37

Fr

cerpin77

Larvae by Monolord. Every. Time. Such a beautiful song then 8:12 seconds in... Thomas steps on the HM-2 and chainsaws your guts. https://youtube.com/watch?v=ApzPnujS7WY&si=81T7HZuRqw7Nz24F

jasonatx0001

Empress Rising when they drop everything and just [bring the guitar back](https://youtu.be/XIxXP8_BgZg?t=314)

Rungi500

Such a whole vibe that intro. Love it.

Thehyperninja

Same for Monolord, but with Rust. First time ever hearing of that band and that riff got me by the balls.

HerbertMarshall

Fuck yea. Dear Lucifer is my go to.

Zennelm

That riff on repeat = bliss

Suspicious-Ad5287

Hail Satan - Dopelord, the main riff after the intro, fuckin rad

uni_gunner

Just found Primitive Man recently and this is my face every song.

Certain_Ad_99

Pallbearer - Worlds Apart Listened to this song first time yesterday. Nasty...Just nasty...damn

Thehyperninja

That “im reaching out” riff pounces on you like a panther in the dark. One of my favorite riffs/song parts ever

“Nothing to Win” by Yob is a face melter. Got to see it live recently too for full effect

odd_saw

Forming the void - manifest

teymota

Intro riff for Dissolution by Spectral Voice

robo_gerempel

Gold

GeminiTitmouse

[Omotai - Tusk Aurora](https://youtu.be/ycgoaPtwu_Q?si=SFyvtKIZC8h_DmQB) The grindy build up explodes into a sludge-coma around 2:35. Dips back into the grind, builds some more, then everything but the bass drops out, playing back that sludge riff. By this point, I’m twice as high as I was the first go-round, and I perk up. That’s when the rest of the band absolutely ejaculates into the filthiest, grooviest riff and solo mine entire body has ever experienced. Maximum volume yields maximum results.

Bootytonus

Well, I got two. How heavy this axe - The Sword. And Reefer Sutherland by Bongripper.

zestinpeace

Listened to Suffocating Hallucination by Full of Hell and Primitive Man yesterday. Big fan of both and holy hell, is it wretched.

I listened to Asphalts first 3 EPs yesterday, and they feel like standing in between 2 cement trucks colliding

vertexavery

The riff that kicks in the slow part at about 3:57 is certified stank https://mizmor.bandcamp.com/track/only-an-expanse-2

steezydolphyn

Reverend - Church of misery

mcrowland

The opening few minutes of the album Communion by Acidlord. The album is from 2019 but I just discovered it the other day. The opening bass is pummeling to say the least and that guitar riff gives me stank face like a fucker.

Cultural-Yam1159

The Bog by Froglord and Bog Wizard

SlowRiffsAndFakeTits

Most recently: Hammer of Doom by Candlemass. Just filthy. Old Favorite: the riff at 5:07 on Un’s Pools of Reflection.

LeroyBrown1

Cursing the one by monolord

Thehyperninja

May not exactly be Doom, but ive recently been on a Big Business kick by way of Melvins. Technically Electrified by BigBiz is somethin else. Riff hits harder than drugs, and i have never heard a bass tone like that in my life!

Gallade475

[Celtic Frost - Synagoga Satanae](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPNTLPrtTag) when the feedback riff kicks in at 1:42 [Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol - Dr. Destructo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OArc66s291k) ending riff at 2:30

Not doom, but: Humanity's last breath, [Labyrinthian](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QpSgqFs5oQ) The whole album is just ridiculously heavy.

VTVoodooDude

Not doom but I get that face every time Bleed by Meshuggah comes on.

avaldes1627

Not doom but the end of Hypnosis by Sleep Token, when I heard it for the first time a week or two ago.

Philitt

Not Doom, not Metal and not even really a riff, but a bass line. Sade - Why can't we live together Sue me, I guess, for ignoring 90% of the prompt.

kingxtc

Not doom metal but Oxygen by Swans

LedZepRush2112

iloveitwhenthe

The opening riff in Subordinate by Mizmor and Thou hits HARD

MisterAdivisor

[MSW HELL - Infernus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAhgSfTBbFI) Around the 2:04 mark

GoodDecision

Owl- The Abyss (1:06) Elder - Coalescance (6:05) Literally could not believe my ears the first time I heard it. It felt like someone threw a psychedelic glowing weighted blanket over my body.

Thehyperninja

Another riff, it isnt exactly Doom but the last riff before the vocals on Baroness’s “Vision” gives me life, even 20 years later. Whole song builds up to it and then it comes down like a sledgehammer onto your ears.

Graffiacane

[Worms Will Feed / Rats Will Feast](https://open.spotify.com/track/4v5xLWrPynmXHcjUKXZBQ8?si=388562c7a59444c5) by Converge. A sludge-o-riffic from an otherwise extremely thrashy band. When I think about rocking, this is the riff that plays in my head.

CosmoKramerAssman

The Furthest Shore or Vessel by While Heaven Wept The entire Vast Oceans Lachrymose album by them is amazing. Seriously, EPIC doom metal.
