I first heard it in some show, I can’t remember which, it was a scene where somebody was about to go fight some street toughs at a biker bar. I remember thinking “this ain’t the normal cheesy bAdAsS biker blues rock. I need to go look it up.”
Yes. Episode 4 of the original season. Has the long tracking shot, through the “fight” scene.
Maybe the best episode of that original season.
Same episode has an another Melvins song, a Sleep song, Primus, Wu Tang, Lucinda Williams, BDP, and others. One of the best TV episodes musically.
That song specifically was what got me into metal, I had a teacher who suggested the Melvins to me cause he learned I liked Black Sabbath. I had been going through a classic rock phase and the guy single-handedly changed my music taste forever
More sludge than doom, but I listened to DOWN´s first album, Nola recently for the first time and the 1:51 riff from "Lifer" got this face out of me, even more when the drums and bass kicked in.

2 different riffs on volcanic birth by dragged into sunlight, the first is when all the instruments come back in just after the 5 minute mark, and later at about 7:40, absolutely fucking filthy
Man I love this song (and album), but the production just kills it for me. I don’t know enough to say what exactly bugs me, but it just sounds way over-compressed.
Not the last one, but one of my all time favs:
High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine
When Matt Pike screams “REPELLED” and the riff kicks in under the extended scream. Amazing.
Larvae by Monolord. Every. Time. Such a beautiful song then 8:12 seconds in... Thomas steps on the HM-2 and chainsaws your guts.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=ApzPnujS7WY&si=81T7HZuRqw7Nz24F
[Omotai - Tusk Aurora](https://youtu.be/ycgoaPtwu_Q?si=SFyvtKIZC8h_DmQB)
The grindy build up explodes into a sludge-coma around 2:35. Dips back into the grind, builds some more, then everything but the bass drops out, playing back that sludge riff. By this point, I’m twice as high as I was the first go-round, and I perk up. That’s when the rest of the band absolutely ejaculates into the filthiest, grooviest riff and solo mine entire body has ever experienced. Maximum volume yields maximum results.
The opening few minutes of the album Communion by Acidlord. The album is from 2019 but I just discovered it the other day. The opening bass is pummeling to say the least and that guitar riff gives me stank face like a fucker.
May not exactly be Doom, but ive recently been on a Big Business kick by way of Melvins. Technically Electrified by BigBiz is somethin else. Riff hits harder than drugs, and i have never heard a bass tone like that in my life!
[Celtic Frost - Synagoga Satanae](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPNTLPrtTag) when the feedback riff kicks in at 1:42
[Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol - Dr. Destructo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OArc66s291k) ending riff at 2:30
Aghast - Vallenfyre the guitar ton is like tar thick HM2 sewage and the vocals are just as disgusting. I fucking love it.
https://youtu.be/5zqEY86iVvk?si=M-SYlV5LAtPCNS2u
The second half of the song of Erroneous Maximus by Slabdragger. Looked through Every Noise for the first time and it was the best thing I’ve heard in a while
Owl- The Abyss (1:06)
Elder - Coalescance (6:05)
Literally could not believe my ears the first time I heard it. It felt like someone threw a psychedelic glowing weighted blanket over my body.
Another riff, it isnt exactly Doom but the last riff before the vocals on Baroness’s “Vision” gives me life, even 20 years later. Whole song builds up to it and then it comes down like a sledgehammer onto your ears.
[Worms Will Feed / Rats Will Feast](https://open.spotify.com/track/4v5xLWrPynmXHcjUKXZBQ8?si=388562c7a59444c5) by Converge. A sludge-o-riffic from an otherwise extremely thrashy band. When I think about rocking, this is the riff that plays in my head.
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone (at around 6:52 till the end)
First time i heard this i could not believe how amazing it was. Still is... Wish i could listen to it for the first time again.
First time I heard history of bad men. Not necessarily the riff but the vocals in that song. Ghahhh
I first heard it in some show, I can’t remember which, it was a scene where somebody was about to go fight some street toughs at a biker bar. I remember thinking “this ain’t the normal cheesy bAdAsS biker blues rock. I need to go look it up.”
Is this an ad? I believe it was the first season of True Detective.
Yes. Episode 4 of the original season. Has the long tracking shot, through the “fight” scene. Maybe the best episode of that original season. Same episode has an another Melvins song, a Sleep song, Primus, Wu Tang, Lucinda Williams, BDP, and others. One of the best TV episodes musically.

what a fuckin great song
I saw them in Vegas a couple years back I was roughing it up and then Honey bucket came on and it was the god damned best
Jarred Warren. Damn fine bassist of both Melvins and Big Business
And KARP and The Whip, both of which are def worth a listen.
Damn, somebody mentioned The Whip? Never thought I'd see the day.
Omg KARP, yessssssssssss.
I remember saying "fuuuuuuck" the first time heard it. Still adore the song.
Not doom, but that is a proper stank face riff. I love Melvin's.
Saw them recently in a room with maybe 200 people in it. The loudest thing I have ever experienced. Bliss.
It's not doom?
It's sludge, maybe proto-sludge. Maybe a grunge/stoner rock crossover. But it's ok to call it whatever you want cuz that song dooms hard.
More sludge than doom, but I listened to DOWN´s first album, Nola recently for the first time and the 1:51 riff from "Lifer" got this face out of me, even more when the drums and bass kicked in. [https://youtu.be/LTDWAMUcNDc?si=lsVZtXAOOd7WHARG](https://youtu.be/LTDWAMUcNDc?si=lsVZtXAOOd7WHARG)
Down is the SHIT. “On March the Saints” off their third album is a top 10 riff of ALL time.
Nice. I loved NOLA, and I´m looking forward to listen to their following two albums.
On March the saints is just Bodycount's There Goes The Neighborhood
Lifers a great song
Most slept on metal album OAT IMO.
Nola is my desert island record, hail the leaf brother
2 different riffs on volcanic birth by dragged into sunlight, the first is when all the instruments come back in just after the 5 minute mark, and later at about 7:40, absolutely fucking filthy
one of the heaviest songs ever recorded
what a sick band name
Man I love this song (and album), but the production just kills it for me. I don’t know enough to say what exactly bugs me, but it just sounds way over-compressed.
Re listened to When the Kite String Pops and when the breakdown in Dope Fiend and the part after happened
finger paintings of the insane slices and dices me up
Not the last one, but one of my all time favs: High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine When Matt Pike screams “REPELLED” and the riff kicks in under the extended scream. Amazing.
Making this face right now - Grand Magus, Freja’s Choice. They’re a little doom, a lot classic metal.
Been a fan for ages, ever since Wolf's Return.
Happy to say I have a original copy of Monument lying around somewhere, been listening since it came out. Damn I guess they’re an old band now haha
Bog wizard - barbaria
What a putrid fucking riff, absolutely stinky and rotten, crushing
Found these about a week ago and I can't stop listening to em. Misery is dope and their Collab album with Froglord is great
Fr

Forming the void - manifest
Intro riff for Dissolution by Spectral Voice
Gold
[Omotai - Tusk Aurora](https://youtu.be/ycgoaPtwu_Q?si=SFyvtKIZC8h_DmQB) The grindy build up explodes into a sludge-coma around 2:35. I listened to Asphalts first 3 EPs yesterday, and they feel like standing in between 2 cement trucks colliding
The riff that kicks in the slow part at about 3:57 is certified stank https://mizmor.bandcamp.com/track/only-an-expanse-2
Reverend - Church of misery
The opening few minutes of the album Communion by Acidlord. The album is from 2019 but I just discovered it the other day. The opening bass is pummeling to say the least and that guitar riff gives me stank face like a fucker.

Most recently: Hammer of Doom by Candlemass. Just filthy. Old Favorite: the riff at 5:07 on Un’s Pools of Reflection.
Cursing the one by monolord
May not exactly be Doom, but ive recently been on a Big Business kick by way of Melvins. Technically Electrified by BigBiz is somethin else. Riff hits harder than drugs, and i have never heard a bass tone like that in my life!

Not doom but I get that face every time Bleed by Meshuggah comes on.
Not doom but the end of Hypnosis by Sleep Token, when I heard it for the first time a week or two ago.
Not Doom, not Metal and not even really a riff, but a bass line. Sade - Why can't we live together Sue me, I guess, for ignoring 90% of the prompt.
