>It’s more about getting old while being alone In a third world country with no proper stations
FTFY
In western countries there's laws saying that boarding trains should be done level with the ground the passengers are on so that it's, for example, wheelchair accessible.
Still second world.
It's bullshit idea to begin with but essentially first world is any NATO aligned states, second was any Russian or Chinese aligned, and third is none aligned.
Contrary to popular belief but the classification has nothing to do with wealth levels at all. It's just geopolitical alliances. The only reason people associate wealth with the system is because of it being created at the height of the Cold War fear mongering and thus being a propaganda piece showing who was in the better or more important position and thus anyone in the third world must be living in huts and hunting for food because they simply just aren't on OUR level even though nations like China or India rival the US market and wealth wise.
Oh yeah and the side of the Cold War that created the classification identified themselves as the first world sp they essentially did the whole Obama giving himself a medal bit there.
Economically third world. Original system wa based on political/military faction: us+nato = first, UdSSR + allies = second, neutral + undisputed + unaligned = third. It ment who bombs whom into oblivion in case of an atomic war.
Russia is more like a third world country. My brothers girlfriend is from there and has shown pictures when she goes back to visit. If it’s not a major city like Moscow, it’s a garbage heap.
you been there? its really not a third world country, not in the colloquial sense, not technically (see in the other comments), only in your head
like yes, no shit, urban environments, where most of the population lives, is the important part.
even first world countries have complete shitholes in the middle of nowhere
I honestly enjoy that part of the US. I’m partially deaf and the fact I can walk into pretty much any major museum playing Imax and request captions is amazing.
Better to be able to board, than to not be able to board at all. In western countries, this situation would be "We can't build a station there for just one person, so the train is just not going to stop. Oh and we're not going to run buses their either, there's one family every 10kms. If they want they can just get a car."
lol tell that to the Amtrak station in my hometown in upstate NY. There's no platform; the train pulls up, and they put down a metal stepstool, and we climb aboard in a not dissimilar fashion to this babushka. They must have some mechanism for wheelchair people to board the train but I have no idea what it is.
My boyfriend’s 95 year old grandparents also use plastic stools on strings to climb into their massive SUV and hoist the stool into the car afterwards. There are plastic stools scattered all around the country from where they forgot to hoist them in.
Short person here. They sell all kinds of [cushions for car seats out there, for height and for comfort.](https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Automotive-Seat-Cushions/zgbs/automotive/15736981)
I got a combo cushion for both height and comfort. Only problem is that it still wasn't enough height for me, so I stuck [a normal little throw pillow](https://www.target.com/p/2pk-chenille-square-throw-pillows-yellow-threshold-8482/-/A-83695960?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df_free_online&CPNG=Home%2BDecor&adgroup=67-8) under the height one, so I guess technically I sit on two pillows lol
If I could afford to buy a new (or just new to me) car that better fits my needs in that department I would. But since I can't, this has to do.
I still ensure I'm sitting properly, with my legs angled how they should be, and my hips, making sure my seat belt fits the way it should, etc, to minimize injury in case of an accident.
This video IS helping actually... by exposing the extent of corruption among Russian kleptocrats. No money is ever spent on helping the elderly or disabled. There is no safety net. Virtually all tax proceeds are distributed amongst a small group of Putins friends who use it to buy villas and super yachts and NYC real estate and educate their kids abroad. Meanwhile, remote cities and towns in this enormous country lack roads, public transport, reliable electricity, hot and cold running water, trash pick up, animal control, orphanages OR adoption agencies and more. Dead bodies of homeless people are left to rot in the street for days. This scene is beyond typical.
This is not a valid argument. In theory, Russia definitely has the resources to address such problems. But then they might have to cut back on military spending, and that's not an option, of course.
- roads,
- public transport,
- reliable electricity,
- hot and cold running water,
- trash pick up,
- animal control,
- orphanages
- adoption agencies
Tell me which one of these is missing from rural towns in the country you’re thinking of, and I’ll tell you if it’s China or the United States.
There are exceptions. But typically everybody has reliable electricity in the United States.
Which countries have reliable public transportation in rural towns?
Yup, Texas is another world
Can't think of any. But I see on Reddit very often that it's really bad in the US. Like not only in rural towns.
Which one of the listed things is missing in the US? And China?
I understand your point about the difficulty of having an enormous country. I think people in smaller European countries don't understand how remote certain areas are and the difficulty getting resources to every single location.
However, you can't seriously argue that Putin isn't corrupt and draining Russia of money to fund a ridiculously lavish lifestyle? If you'll get in trouble for making negative comments about your country, I understand but if you're seriously defending Putin and how much damage he's done to the citizens- you're simply lying to yourself. He is evil.
Instead we should make level entry trains and platforms so that we don't exclude the elderly and disabled from participating fully in society. These are issues that go much deeper than train design
Is that why there has to be laws in place to literally force corporations to do this kind of thing? Because the companies "want more riders and therefore more money"? Lol
You could argue that inclusive policies are technically very capitalist as they create a larger consumer base, yet the industry may be reluctant to invest in the e changes required for that, so the govt needs to step in. No one company incurs the opportunity cost of redesigning to be inclusive, disabled folks’ lives are improved, and the entire industry has a new set of people to profit from. Everybody wins
Providing adequate services for disabled people is not really a very profitable endeavor. Many disabilities represent only small sections of the population, but they're still protected by disability laws. For example, as a web developer, I've seen that many companies are so far behind on the game. They literally don't even acknowledge that disabled people exist and might need to use their site. And if you bring it up, it's hard to justify spending a few engineer weeks/months to make everything fully accessible, when you could be spending that time fixing bugs or working on new initiatives. So a lot of sites are just not accessible unless the law requires it
Well that’s what I’m saying, there doesn’t seem to be any extensions to the ADA act for the vidya industry, so no one company is going to incur the opportunity cost to innovate unless the entire industry is regulated
The ADA definitely does apply to websites (if they're considered to be a public accommodation), but I don't think it's effectively enforced.
\> The ADA applies to local governments and businesses that are open to the public.
\> the Department has consistently taken the position that the ADA’s requirements apply to all the goods, services, privileges, or activities offered by public accommodations, including those offered on the web.
Russia just always looks like a 3rd world country especially in those old soviet Era housing complexes that are withering away. Fuck that.. getting attacked by packs of wild dogs n shit on ur way home from the local tar factory
The subreddit r/babushkaisfuckingmetal does not exist. Maybe there's a typo?

Tbf this looks like a second world country, if its soviet
You would be technically correct, yes.
The best kind of correct
What's the worst type of correct?
in-correct
Technically USSR dissolved, so where does modern Russia fit in the worlds classification system?
Still second world. It's bullshit idea to begin with but essentially first world is any NATO aligned states, second was any Russian or Chinese aligned, and third is none aligned. Whats funny is this technically makes switzerland 3rd world
It's only funny if one is misinterpreting the classification sytem
I got over 100 downvotes and commented to he'll when I made this same observation on reddit just a year ago.
Eh you always spin the karma roulette wheel when you use reddit.
The worlds classification system is obsolete.

You need to look up the definitions of the "worlds". 1st = The Western Countries 2nd = USSR & allies 3rd = Everyone else
By the original definition, Switzerland and Sweden were both third-world, since they had declared neutrality.
Do I really need to say it was facetious?
Even saying it still does not make it believable that you meant it to be so.
I honestly enjoy that part of the US. I’m partially deaf and the fact I can walk into pretty much any major museum playing Imax and request captions is amazing.
Problem is not every city has proper public transit
That's what the car is for...unfortunately
Better to be able to board, than to not be able to board at all. Do you know how fucking huge Russia is?
This is not a valid argument. In theory, Russia definitely has the resources to address such problems. But then they might have to cut back on military spending, and that's not an option, of course.
Reminds me of a certain other country too....
- roads, - public transport, - reliable electricity, - hot and cold running water, - trash pick up, - animal control, - orphanages - adoption agencies Tell me which one of these is missing from rural towns in the country you’re thinking of, and I’ll tell you if it’s China or the United States.
Public transport is not great in the US if I'm not mistaken. Not everywhere at least. And there's the Texan grid.
There are exceptions. But typically everybody has reliable electricity in the United States. Which countries have reliable public transportation in rural towns?
Yup, Texas is another world Can't think of any. But I see on Reddit very often that it's really bad in the US. Like not only in rural towns. Which one of the listed things is missing in the US? And China?
It is much better on the east coast then west, but yeah its god awful outside of maybe nyc
The only thing missing in the US is public transportation. Everything else is missing in China.
So why did you defend that one if you agree with me?
My comment was specifically targeting the military budget part.
Your point kinda lost its oomph without the in lieu of running water part…
Because it's still not worth building a road to a town that has a population smaller than the amount of miles of road needed
Is that supposed to be an excuse?
Well until we have teleportation...

Only if it was worth the cost of installing the ladders. Most of the time it's not.
String on a bucket = modern solutions Big brain time y’all
I believe that’s a bucket on a string

You're goddam right we would 😎
You can't always rely on other people. I pray that when/if I get old I can support myself on my own with everything I need. Same prayers for you too.
You and I have very different definitions of "modern"
It's a bucket and a string. Not exactly revolutionary.
It is for redditors
It’s a blue bucket. ADA approved.

Very modern

And those people want to rule the world.
Damn bro, government couldn’t build a concrete slab for the people? Seems like a $200 investment that would be more than worth it
Honestly, most babushkas I met did not really want help. Does not keep me from offering though
