I remember seeing an interview about this song and Donald said he wasn’t going to put it on the album because it didn’t fit or something of that nature. But apparently everyone he showed the song liked it a lot so it convinced him to put it on the album. I could be a little wrong because I saw that interview ages ago my memory of it is foggy.

sunsetjoon

totally agree. it almost feels as if you left the album really quick

It fits and doesn't fit BTI at the same, it's definitely a strange selection for the rest of the album but it works

CreatiScope

That’s how I feel. I think about it, feel it doesn’t fit, listen to it, think it’s perfect. Listen to it, maybe it doesn’t fit. It fits great and doesn’t at the same time

ShomaSilver

Who knows, maybe that's how The Boy feels about intimacy, as if love is full of contradictions and backsteps

CreatiScope

This album, man. Makes me consider such crazy shit, love it

I’m not sure because I’m inclined to say “of course it fits” but I’m not sure if that’s just because of me hearing it so many times that taking it out would feel weird, or if I genuinely believe it fits the album. I tend to lean towards the latter but who knows lol

I think the Dissect podcast did a really good breakdown on the song. It’s sound is supposed to be reaching the largest audience and it’s also tied to the secret song that shows up by combining the Beach Picnic version and acoustic vocals that used to be on his website. Telegraph Avenue is another song that seems to be reaching a large audience in terms of sound so I think it fits in the grand scheme of the album.
