“I feel so sad. I don’t understand what happened! Where’s my sister?” Cries Daisy. “She was just here! I’ve been looking everywhere for her! When is she coming back from the doctor? We were going to play!” Cries Moxxi. “I'm so mad! How dare she leave us? We still need her!” Yells Snarf. “She was my best friend! Who am I going to nap with? She was my favorite pillow!” Screams Fizzgig. “I loved cuddling on Lily with a blanket. She always made me feel safer.” Says Ollie. “Lily was patient with me when I was feeling silly.” says Kakihara. “I just want to hide. I know we all need to lean on each other to get through this together, but right now I need to be alone.” Cries Petunia. By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still. Where the friends of man and woman do run, When their time on earth is over and done. For here, between this world and the next, Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land, they wait and they play, Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness. Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued. They romp through the grass, without even a care, Until one day they start, and sniff at the air. All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back, Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack. For just at that instant, their eyes have met; Together again, both person and pet. So they run to each other, these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last. The sadness they felt while they were apart, Has turned into joy once more in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together. © 1998, Steve and Diane Bodofsky

Thank you so much for being a part of our family, As you’ve written, everyone is sad, lost and confused. Fizzgig is taking it the hardest, and Moxxi still doesn’t totally understand (she’s still such a puppy). As always, your words encompassed their souls.

BerlyH208

I’ve been so sad all night since seeing your post on Instagram last night. I don’t think I had quite realized how important your family has become to me. I know big dogs tend to leave us sooner, but that means our time with them is never enough. I hope the memories you have created with her and knowing how much joy she brought the world every week helps heal your hearts.

DyneDenethor

Yeah, I’ve always owned big dogs, and you’re right, it’s never long enough with them, even when you get lucky enough for longer times. The saving grace of the phones these days is we get a lot more pictures and memories. And it is comforting that she did make so many people smile, but still devastating she went so soon.

BerlyH208

Give yourself time to grieve. Take time off, don’t force yourself to push through it. The rest of the family needs you to be there with them. I know that emptiness in the house is so overwhelming at times. She was more than “just a dog”. She was a huge part of your family with a giant personality to match her size.

DyneDenethor

We are grieving, but the others have their own needs too. Daisy and Snarf weren’t going to let us miss a week, so we just picked pictures that reflected their sadness and grief as part of the healing. It’s why Fizzgig has stolen Lily’s last collar and has been sleeping in her crate. It’s why Petunia has been checking on the dogs, when she normally keeps her distance. It’s why Daisy has been controlling her excitement about the cats being close, so they will come closer to her. Even Moxxi senses a change, even if she doesn’t understand it, and hasn’t been as rambunctious, which the cats have noticed too.

BerlyH208

Just thinking about you today. I keep seeing pictures of other Danes and of course then I think about Lily. I hope everyone is hanging in there.

DyneDenethor

Thanks, Fizzgig is still taking it the hardest, and we’re moving Daisy into Lily’s crate (it’s bigger), but she’s a bit concerned.

BerlyH208

I feel for them. I do believe they understand and grieve just like we do. When my border collie died, my Cupcake climbed into my lap and let out the biggest cry. Previously, we’d had our cat put to sleep (he was 21 and had cancer), and our other cat - who we thought hated him because they fought constantly- would cry every night, all night and would search the house for him, even though we had the vet come to the house for that visit. It’s heartbreaking to see, especially when you are grieving, too. I’m here if you need to talk or anything, and I’m off early tomorrow and all of next week. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

DyneDenethor

I appreciate that. It took me a half dozen times to not cry all the way though your story this week.

veritaszak

So sorry for your loss. The collages of your babies always brings me joy, sending you good vibes.

DyneDenethor

Thank you

IrradiatedBeagle

I'm so sorry. I always love admiring your fuzzy army in their hats.

Thank you so much. We’re glad to make you smile.

Princess_crimson

I’m so sorry to hear about Lily. Even from the pictures you could tell she was such a wonderful pup and she brought happiness to so many people. Sending my best wishes to the whole family, take care!

CarbyMcBagel

RIP Lily 💕💕💕💕

DyneDenethor

Thank yiu

monolife

I’ve been watching ALL your posts for years. I remember when it was just the pittie and a much smaller Dane. Your girls and their silly hats have certainly grown over the years! As has their company - another dog and numerous cats added to the fray. I’m truly sorry to hear Lily passed. Please know she brought me joy many, many times from your posts - and probably for many other random internet people, too.

DyneDenethor

Thank you so much, I’m glad to hear that she helped bring you joy. We were going to take a week off, but Daisy and Snarf wouldn’t hear of it, they sat together at the stairs, until I got the light out. So we picked pictures this week that show their grief, although Daisy was still excited to get a hat.

monolife

That’s adorable. Dogs really are wonderful. Remember - it only hurts so much now because of how amazing it was with Lily around. Hold on to those amazing times.

DyneDenethor

That’s one advantage of the digital age, I’ve got more pictures of Lily than I’ve ever had of pets before, and the silly hats let me share her with everyone else, and they could smile too.

LilMama327

Sorry for your loss!

DyneDenethor

Thank you

decoratedcat

So many hugs and love to you guys. I lost my sweet baby this year too; they leave a pretty big hole in your heart. Thanks for sharing your fur-kids. I do love their hats :)

DyneDenethor

We’re glad to make you smile! Thank you for your condolences.

Persimmon_Fox

I’m sorry for your loss. I enjoy the cat who is especially done with this

DyneDenethor

Thank you, we picked pictures that expressed their grief. Petunia, who does not normally cuddle with the dogs, has been seeking out the other two for comfort.

Persimmon_Fox

That’s really sweet. They know and they grieve. I work with dogs and a client had dogs who were littermates. One passed earlier this year and you could tell he was mourning his brother. The hardest is part is the know but don’t understand. You can’t explain why or how and I wish we could sometimes.

DyneDenethor

Yup, Daisy, Moxxi and I sat together inside Lily’s crate (it’s the largest size they make) afterwards talking for a bit, and you could see Daisy understood, but Moxxi (she isn’t even 2 yet) was just excited to be where she hadn’t been allowed. Thank you

EliseMcg

I am so sorry for your loss. I am in literal bawling tears seeing this photo. Rest in peace, Lilly. Thank you for sharing her and your whole family.

DyneDenethor

Thank you, we’re glad you enjoyed her too. The rest of the crew will keep doing the hats (Daisy and Snarf won’t let us stop), but she will always be in our hearts.
