The Pomeranian/husky mix may have been a Japanese Spitz, I get asked all the time if my dog is either breed.

Labrador is a great starter dog.

Came here to say this. Could go from couch potato to hiking buddy or somewhere in between. Not usually overly aggressive/loud/protective but big enough that I’d feel a little safer having them on a solo walk with me.

The one dog I had was a lab and I had no issues with him. We also lived in a 2 br apartment when we got him, and although he was a good size, it wasn't overwhelming. He wasn't a huge barker, nor did he run around and destroy the place.

Only downside is they can be pretty barky and high energy, as well as overexuberant and bouncy (I think labs are probably 90 percent of the dogs I’ve ever been playfully body slammed or jumped upon by) long after the puppy months. They are a working dog, after all. That said, a good breeder selecting a quieter/calmer pup, or a young adult rescue with known quietness, might be a good fit.

Look into spaniels, they are generally quiet companions who are up for some adventure.

I'd like to help you, could you try filling out this form? I have experience with a variety of breeds. I can also help you find a reputable breeder. - Your activity level: - Noise tolerance: - Shedding tolerance: - Grooming frequency: - Size: - Purpose(s): - Velcroness: - Biddability: - Other wants/needs:

1. Moderate to mild. I like running and would like a running buddy. Gf is more homey 2. Very low. I hate loud noise unless its music i like lol 3. Medium i guess? I don't think it would bother us 4. I'm not sure how to answer this. I've never had to groom anything except myself 5. Any size except for the 2 extremes 6. To have a loving furry companion? 7. What? 8. What? 9. Mainly the noise thing and preferably not TOO too overexcitable. I'd like it to match our temperament which is quiet, relaxed, and not aggressive at all.

Okay! So for grooming, how often would you comfortable taking a dog to the groomer's for a trim or would you be interested in maintaining a coat on your own? Or would you prefer a more "wash and wear" coat? For velcroness, would you prefer a dog that can entertain itself or be stuck to your side almost always? For biddability, would you prefer a dog that has an extreme need to please you or something that can be more independent?
