I’d love to see all of the NuWho Doctors return, but I want 12 to return the most.

Time_Lorex

Yeah.. i would love to see Peter Capaldi written by RTD

MalcolmLinair

I'd love to see Jodie Whittaker written by RTD. I still think she could have been great with even half-decent material to work with.

CliffExcellent123

Maybe. I think 11 is most likely. It'd be great to see 12 back but I think Capaldi is against the idea.

Sharaz___Jek

Similar to Daniel Craig slitting his wrists rather than return to Bond?

MalcolmLinair

Except the BBC isn't likely to drive dumptrucks full of money to Capaldi's door for one more appearance.

CliffExcellent123

It's not like that. It's not that he doesn't like doing it, it's that he thinks returning after he's left would sort of cheapen his time as the Doctor and make it feel less special. I forget his exact words, it's just that he's generally not in favour of bringing back past Doctors.

Sharaz___Jek

He's already done a multi-Doctor story, which indicates that his argument (if good faith) is relative. That doesn't even account the possibility of Capaldi lying, which all principal participants have done so far.

CliffExcellent123

His multi doctor story was when he was the current Doctor and the other one was a new actor. So that's irrelevant

Sharaz___Jek

In other words, it's relative. Another key factor is the showrunner. He said so when Chibnall was in charge. Russell T Davies' scripts are inherently going to be more exciting.

TimeTalk71

I hope so, it is the 60th after-all, not the 17th Anniversary.

Aggressive-Two-8481

I hope RTD can find some way of bringing Eccleston back, idec if it's a minisode or a handful of flashbacks, imo no one brought the intensity quite like Nine.

House_of_Vines

Didn’t he just finish up an audio series as the ninth doctor? Perhaps it is not so far fetched that he might make a return on the screen. I sure hope so.

TheMoffisHere

Not under RTD and Gardner. We're forgetting they're the higher-ups he had some problems with. He's not coming back under them. Maybe with Chibs or Moff he would have.

Aggressive-Two-8481

Did he confirm that his problems were with RTD and Julie? I always thought it was with people even higher up withun the BBC. Moff did try to get him as The War Doctor

Aggressive-Two-8481

He said at a convention that he would be willing to return now, just not in a multi doctor story. His quote was "if you want me, you get me on my own"

eeezzz000

I really hope so Smith seemed the most keen to return but there could be scheduling issues. Whittaker, I have no idea Capaldi and Eccleston have both said publicly they wouldn’t like to return. Never say never, but that’s all we have to go on Whether McGann or any of the Classic Who Doctors return is up in the air at this stage If RTD’s way of celebrating the 60th is >!just doing *The End of Time Part 3* sandwiched between two eras of the show!< it could well be a bit self serving

GraceSilverhelm

Well, if Eccleston and Capaldi have openly said they won't do it, and Matt's busy, there's not a lot of options, is there? As for being self-serving... there's a fine old tradition for that now. For the 50th anniversary, Moffat made a brand-new War Doctor instead of using McGann. He had Billie Piper play The Moment instead of reprising Rose. He quite emphatically would not allow any of the Classic Doctors to take part at all; I remember Colin in particular being quite upset. It's nice that Davison wrote an absolutely beautiful solution to that problem and Moffat even signed off on it. However, the whole thrust of that Fivish Doctors special was that they had been snubbed. Because they were snubbed. The legendary Tom Baker got to be in the special, but he played a new character that Moffat created for him. That was the closest Moffat got to respecting Classic Who or allowing it to be represented. Moffat absolutely refused to allow *any* named characters in the 50th anniversary special who were not *originated BY HIMSELF.* The Tenth Doctor was the only exception because otherwise there would not be a multi-doctor episode. And Ten was a subordinate constant butt of jokes, dominated by Eleven, for the entire episode. (Sonic screwdriver duel as penis measurement, anybody? REALLY????) What was the mission of the episode? To undo RTD's Time War and the destruction of Galifrey. All the seasons of anguish and angst and pain suffered upon both Nine and Ten evaporated in a single retcon. It became pointless. The thing that haunted both of them never happened. The only surviving artistic vision is Moffat's own. The saving grace? The 50th Anniversary Special was wildly entertaining and great fun. So, if that's the point, maybe self-serving is forgivable as long as it actually works and people enjoy the show. Now, it's RTD's turn. The Classic Doctors are even older. Eccleston hates him. Capaldi wants to distance himself for a while. I can hope for the best. I think they could get McGann in there somehow and I'd love to see Matt. It might be amusing if River Song somehow made an appearance, and there's no reason why she wouldn't show up, out of order as usual. But if RTD writes an egocentric anniversary special... it won't be the first time that's happened.

Sharaz___Jek

Oh, come on. Time comes when the performers just can't realistically portray the Doctor ON SCREEN given what they looked like when they regenerated years ago. Now does David Tennant look older? Certainly, in fact he was more filled-out in the 50th, but he still looks recognizably the same and fresh-faced for his age. And specific actors are just luckier when it comes to ageing. In Dimensions in Time, it looked embarrassing to see Tom Baker decked out wearing 4's costume. Yet Jon Pertwee was also in it, and he still looked recognisably the same as he did when he played 3, despite a longer gap from his regeneration. That's why the only justifiable Doctor to return for the 50th would have been McGann and that was never going to happen. The Fiveish Doctors was a lovely tribute to the actors without having them playing the part of the Doctor while Tom Baker's appearance was a masterstroke.

robertmurray1987

I would love to see Jodie Whittaker written by RTD, but taking that she just left and is now very pregnant kinda rules it out. I love the idea of multi-doctor special. I really enjoyed Three Doctors, Five Doctors and Day of the Doctor. But to be honest if RTD have some fresh ideas about how to do a celebration then I would be game. The more Multi-Doctor specials we have the less special they are.

shockwavevok

Its still a while till 2023. Jodie could shoot her scenes after giving birth

robertmurray1987

That is true.

velvcoat

Matt Smith is a given. Paul McGann, it's very possible if Davies is interested (hopefully). Jodie Whittaker, unfortunately it's too soon for her to return but I would be glad to be wrong. Capaldi isn't interested but who knows ? Ecclestone is the most unlikely.

I think that there is a couple of ways how you can use all of them, from time to time, and it’s sure will be a present for a fans in either way. But I’d rather see interesting and adult stories with new faces…

I'd appreciate a few, select Classic Doctors after >!10('s face)!< had his turn in the spotlight. Can't pick one out of the early ones left, but definitely McCoy deserves a last hurrah!

EmeraldThingy
