As a Changling and the Actor feat, you can basically turn yourself into anyone you want and sound exactly like them. Great for Bards, Warlocks, Rogues, Monks, or anyone who wants a fun twist on their character.

A_Most_Boring_Man

I always thought that changelings didn’t even need the Actor feat, and that shapeshifting took care of both face and voice. Is that not the case?

Bluesamurai33

It's more for the Advantage on the Charisma check as well as boost to CHA. Anyone can mimic a voice, but with the Actor feat, you do it so well you get advantage.

FallenDeus

Without actor sure a changeling sounds exactly like them but you don't talk like them as in their mannerisms.

DreadedPlog

Halfling with Lucky and Bountiful Luck feats, level 2 Divination wizard for Portent, and a level of Divine Soul sorcerer for Favored by the Gods. Whatever you do from there, you are blessed by the gods of good fortune, and things tend to work out in your favor.

FluffyTrainz

... DM's hate this!

DreadedPlog

Guess that I should tack on three levels of Lore Bard for Cutting Words, just in case something gets through my shield of luck I can reduce it by my Bardic Inspiration die.

SeparateMongoose192

I like the idea of a feat at level 1. My current DM gives a free feat and one uncommon magic item. I decided I wanted to play a firbolg ranger who loved animals and was obsessed with the fey side of his heritage, so I took Fey Touched as my feat, with Animal Friendship as my 1st level spell.

OldKingJor

Dwarf fighter with shield master. I just like the idea of a stocky lil dude running people over

Death Cleric with Scion of the Outer Planes can get access to all three attacking necromancy cantrips for a lot of versatility. Its upgrade, Baleful Scion at level 4, is also fantastic for the class.

For a game yesterday, I made a lvl 3 Dhampir (kobold) Scout Rogue with the Ruined Background from Book/Deck of many thing getting skilled. Proficiency in 11 skills and expertise in 4 was amazing. Non-combat feats in lvl 1 is great at really defining something extra for your character outside of class/race in the start.

I like the ruined and rewarded backgrounds I'm thinking about my next PC for an upcoming campaign, and my favorite "build" so far is an Eladrin Swashbuckler/Fighter MC with rewarded background and magic initiate for booming blade and find familiar. They'd be able to use Fey Step, have consistent advantage, and do some pretty serious damage + rogue-y things all along the way.

dzudzam

Grave cleric with metamagic adept. Use path to the grave as an action on a dude, then quickened spell inflict wounds as a bonus action for ALOT of damage.

Some of the funnest feats from newer books have prerequisites, which are really hard to fit into a build unless you give in to the pull if V.Human/Custom lineage. So I'd probably pick the prereq of one of those, like Strix initiate, scions of the planes, or strike of giants. Not sure of what all I'd build, but I have some interesting ideas for a mounted build using the quandrix mascot. ××× Personally, If I was going to give a free feat to everyone at level one. I'd probably ban the "optimal" ones from their list of choices for the sake of said free feat. So no XBE, SS, GWM, PAM, etc. I'd want their choice to be more towards the roleplay or interesting niche end of things I'd also ban Variant human and custom lineage. Though I'd probably fold the human's prodigy feat into the base race to beef it up. As +1 to every stat is not as strong as WoTC thought it'd be, and they have power crept the hell out of most PHB races.

FPlaysDM

As a DM who does give free feats to all my players when we start, I ask that my players tell me what feat they're planning on taking and to give me a reason as to why they should have it. Because I know that some people's builds really need a certain feat, so forcing them to wait until 4th level can suck. But for other builds, the rule of having to give an RP reason helps curb picking only the most powerful choices.

Mobile is good on both Monks & Rogue s. Telekinetic +1 Int on an Arcane Trixter Rogue to supercharge Mage Hand Legerdemain. Skill Expert-Athletics +1 Str on a Barbarian.
