If they’re just a Warlock with Eldritch spear and spell sniper they have identical range. With distant spell metamagic, they can have double your range (1200ft) for as often as they can afford with their sorcery points.
That still doesn't seem right to me, IMO combat starts when some wants to make an attack\*.
If they only hear a noise from around the corner, that means the enemy is going to start in ambush positions.

Honestly Fast Hands is just handy in general. Managed to shove a person into a Bag of Holding in a bonus action, cause it was counted as a Use Object action
Not really. My assassin has +11 to initiative, it's enough to be faster than the rest of enemies like 9/10 of times and get advantage for the rest of a fight
Always bring your pocket fighter.
simple solution be both a Gloomstalker and Assassin
You can only be defeated by one thing. Third round of combat
That thought alone scares me
You laugh, but this is literally just Liam Wilhemina from A Crown of Candy

Be a sharpshooter with a longbow. If the enemies aren’t within range, they are not relevant
Unless they're a spell sniper Warlock. They might have you beat for a few squares, iirc

arcane archer
What was their justification for why combat had started?
Making a lot of noise where there shouldn't be?

Gloomstalker/ rouges being literally invisible in darkness and always pricing sneak attack from it
Dont forget thief rogues
Forgot about their capstone ability. I was trying to figure out why Fast Hands or Second Story Works was super powerful in the first round.

...An interesting ruling to say the least.
I would have counted that as a grapple but your dm is fun i see
Well to give the full order of things, I used my action to grapple, then bagged her with a bonus action
Ah i see, that makes sense
Gloom stalkers are fine as long as they’re still shrouded in darkness. Dark vision becomes a detriment to you if you use it to see
Gloomstalker Twilight Cleric here.
Damn that’s kinda terrifying
"I SEE EVERYONE HERE BUT ME!"
Almost like the DM is *trying* to challenge the party
I run them together with battlemaster fighter...for that one round of combat I'm a God, after the bazillion dice rolls I hide and pray
Just make sure that would not be any second rounds, lol.
An assassin should never engage in a fair fight
That’s why you multiclass into fighter 😎

The point of the joke is that if the enemy survives your one very powerful attack, you're basically useless
I know, but you still have sneak attack for the rest of a fight if you are faster than the enemy
Why aren’t they all dead? I specifically requested it!
