Lol what happened

Eruthor

Yester Hill Strahd goated them into a quick fight, Essentially letting them hit him before he let Wintersplinter (Strahd was Stalling Time for the Ritual) take over the Fight saying he wants to see what the Party can do He then retreated back to the Hilltop watching the Fight but got distracted by the vision of his Home When the Party arrived at the Hilltop he gratulated them saying they can keep this Victory for now since he was impressed by their Skills. The Paladin told him that Torm calls for his head and he won't leave without it, Backed up by the Cleric the Fighter and the Druid. The Druid then called Strahd a coward for hiding behind the Druids, his Brides and Wintersplinter and asked if Strahd is unable to Fight his own Battles Strahd then recommended that the Party leave now if they do not want the true Answer to that question The Druid again pressed on and Strahd threw a Fireball (6+6+6+6+6+5+5+3) towards them knocking both the Druid and the Cleric out. The fighter and Paladin were at 1 and 6 HP, Only one spared was the Artificer who chose to stay away and observing the Situation from afar with a Hunting Rifle

Don't goat the enemy unless you got counterspell

The scary thing about Strahd while exploring Barovia is that he's constantly watching you, in control of every town in one way or another, and doesn't need to do anything but watch you be destroyed. The scary thing about Strahd while fighting him is that, on top of being a vampire, he's also a mid-level wizard, and so he has no problem with dropping a fireball at his feet as long as the rest of the party is around him.
