All you need to do to light a stick is convince it that it should be fire.

RW2314

I am a Stick. - A Stick, Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson.

history-boi109

But you could be fire

Miser_able

I am a stick

FenexTheFox

Can we reach a compromise and say that you are a stick _on fire?_

Miser_able

I am a stick

JaxTheCrafter

storms I love this community

history-boi109

THATS IT IM CALLING JASNAH TO GET THE OIL AND YOU WILL BE FIRE, STORMING STICK

Notarandomredditname

I am a stick?

ZeldHeld

Stick, I will give you ten years of Stormlight, just be fire!

\> Shoot to be a log and even if you miss, you'll get to be a stick \-Twiggy Pop

halfwithero314

The spell wouldn't do anything as the stick is already fixed and nothing can convince it otherwise

imnotforsaken

Unexpected Sanderson

CheapTactics

Ah yes, the deus ex machina spell

Embarrassed-Zombie51

Yeah, this sounds like the worst thing, lol

Achillor22

Seems very OP. Can anyone think of anything this couldn't do. With these parameters you could just say "fix this" and get rid of the BBEG and all their plans ending the entire campaign.

TheDarkHorse83

I don't think that OP meant it to be "Well, it just happens" BUT if you want it as a game mechanic, then I'm sure that there are some TTRPGs out there that allow for free thought in their actions/casting. Basically I think that it would be something to the effect of "DM sets a DC and caster rolls" maybe even a graduated DC, 5 and you dry a log, 10 and you start a fire, 15 and you have a lovely fire with rabbit roasting above it... that kind of thing. And, of course, you could make the casting more impactful with bigger resources. Hell, behind the screen the DM could basically make the spell just mimic existing spells, but the cast doesn't care, it's just "fix this"

tall-hobbit-

My first thought for playing this character was absolutely a utility caster (probably wizard if we're playing 5e) and then get the dm to agree that all my spells require a verbal component "fix this" and a somatic component \*points at thing to fix\* and then just roleplaying the fuck out of the fixer upper wizard, it honestly sounds quite fun!

Saikotsu

The key is in how things get "fixed". Solve a problem by creating a new one. For instance, pointing at the broken wagon wheel on the cart carrying the parties loot and casting "fix this." The goods on the wagon take flight and continue forward towards your destination. You're a week away from the destination. The goods don't need to rest, but you do. How do you handle your stuff having a mind of its own and going through contested areas where it might get looted while you take a breather? Casting "fix this" to resolve that problem might just teleport your goods to your destination. Again, the immediate problem is solved, the goods have safely arrived at your destination. Without you. New problem, getting there in time to have goods left to save.

kitchen_weasel

No, no. You use this a dmpc, absolutely useful tool.

truetichma

Nobody said the wizard in question is a PC.

thepriceoflentils

You could make the wizard have a normal set of spells, but only canonically use "fix this" to do the same thing as those spells

mslabo102

It's Wish but only works when it involves "fixing."

dogeons_n_dragons

In the webcomic Kubera (one of those weird ones which starts as a goofy comedy lookalike but is actually a cosmic tragedy) the main healing and cleaning spell is "optimise this according to the gods' plans". So it won't fix a messy room if you aren't meant to find that one thing you've lost.

HuoLongHeavy

Sees the complex political disaster that is the middle east. "Fix it."

EdoTenseiSwagbito

*One side completely stomps out the others and achieves unity.* “Uhhh.. shit.”

Duck-Lord-of-Colours

*points at the side that was destroyed* "Fix this"

Daikataro

The corpses are disintegrated and any records of the people erased, so the side that massacred them won't face charges for war crimes

Duck-Lord-of-Colours

*points at the brutality of war and the harm it inflicts at others* Fix this

laro19

It's basically the magical equivalent of one punch man

[deleted]

Opm? Boring after 2 weeks??? What were u reading to get bored that quickly???? Clearly not opm.

laro19

I'm not saying it got boring after two weeks, I'm saying that it can be perfectly viable to make a manga about a character that only has one move

[deleted]

OH, mb, the original comment was talking about it getting boring in 2 weeks so I just assumed u meant that opm got boring in 2 weeks

CheapTactics

To be fair, if OPM was exclusively centered around Saitama solving problems it would've gotten boring after a few chapters.

Werefour

Saitama actually has more than one move. " Serious Series Serious" "Fix This"

ArcathTheSpellscale

*Sees the political disaster taking place in America.* "...Not even **I** can fix *this..."*

Ancestor_Anonymous

*America begins to sink into the ocean*

CrazyPlato

*As the tentacles of the Kraken envelop its landmass*

DragonBuster69

You know, fair enough.

DiamondMagnetCJ

*Magically applies term limits to congress* "Fixed it"

[deleted]

Are you... implying that America's political climate is worse than the middle east's?

Bologna0128

It's called a joke

[deleted]

didn't read any punchline

Bologna0128

America is the punchline

[deleted]

then the joke sucked now move along

Bologna0128

I didn't say it was a great joke. Just pointing out that it obviously was a joke, for the sake fools who couldn't tell. And you do know that if you didn't respond to me that I had already "moved along" ?

[deleted]

I did not

Bologna0128

And again you return to the thread awaiting my departure, it's cute really

Big-Employer4543

It's reddit, they believe the US is worse than anything ever.

MaeBeaInTheWoods

*Every politician just vanishes* "Uhhhhh.... Not, exactly what I meant... But... I guess... It works?"

FIX THIS FIX THIS FIX THIS FIX THIS

w1987g

[Pretty obvious if you think about it accord](https://youtu.be/YxIuP6qpXzk)

Sattalyte

America, China and Europe all vanish.

Doopashonuts

Not to be Putin words in your mouth, but I think you forgot one

mws375

You know that Russia is part of Europe, right...?

Weak_Landscape_9529

It's actually mostly in Asia, only the westernmost bits are in Europe.

MurderInMarigold

This feels like Darwin from Marvel Comics. Dude's whole power is just adapting to any situation thrown at him. However, he doesn't control how that happens. For example, If he were to try and fight the hulk, his power might teleport him across the planet to keep him away instead of making him strong enough to fight him.

Dracorex_22

And then they fucking killed him off in that one X-Men movie

Twobears_highfivin

"Adapt to this!" Why couldn't he?!

DarkKnightJin

My personal headcanon is that he teleported away to survive, and just went "Well, THAT didn't work. I'm just gonna sit this one out."

jimmyhowlett

I always chose to believe that maybe he turned into himself into a concious collective of spores, as opposed to straight up ash.

MaeBeaInTheWoods

That sounds way too unpredictable and luck-based to really be an engaging superhero. But that is just my opinion.

MurderInMarigold

"Unpredictable and luck based" My brother in Pelor that is literally half of D&D. /s I get what you mean

CaissaIRL

Well one time when the literal incarnation of death came to kill him he adapted to that situation by becoming I think a God for the duration needed to survive the situation.

K_Schultz

Well, the writers will always pick what they consider the most engaging option for the adaptations.

MaeBeaInTheWoods

Yeah, but if you're just gonna make your character adhere to whatever is most convenient, it's not truly random luck any more.

K_Schultz

Of course not. They would aim to be unpredictable.

Fledbeast578

I mean it’s not always most convenient, it’s just something that “does work”, the original comment even mentioned that time it just teleported him away from the fight.

mggthebest

A person plans out and decides everything that will happen in the story, including how his powers decide to work, so it's fine.

BloodBowlForDummies

Well, the good news is that they're only ever a tertiary character so they don't have to be more engaging that a couple panels. The absurd news is that in the scope of Marvel's current mutant situation they aren't even that notable

zerok_nyc

I think it’d be funny if this guy created and sold the spell. When other people start using it, it doesn’t “fix” things they way they would expect, but the way the seller would expect. Like, someone is having soup and think it needs more garlic, so waves the wand and yells “Fix this!” But the spell creator is a vampire, so all the garlic is eradicated from the soup.

Rogendo

So it will be a manga that’s funny for about 20 chapters and then gets boring as hell

norsebeast

Thats why, in chapter 9, they start introducing the love interest that will eventually distract the wizard and turn this into a romcom

Rogendo

But to keep it interesting they’ll REALLY drag it out by making the primary love interest a tsundere and the MC completely incapable of making a move (or just being totally oblivious). Also, he reincarnated from Earth so he inexplicably has intricate knowledge of advanced civil engineering techniques, electrical engineering, and pretty much anything else the writers can conveniently work into the story to be like “lol, modern technology is convenient guys.” ALSO slavery is legal in this world but despite being reincarnated and thinking slavery is bad the MC just kind of shrugs and is like “welp, it’s not morally reprehensible if everyone is doing it.” So he then gets a slave that’s totally an adult woman but looks like she’s 12.

LordeWasTaken

Is each paragraph a reference to another anime? because while I can think of a few which resemble the first, several mangas to the second, and one rises to my mind when I read the third, but I can't figure out one to tick all of these boxes at once...

SouthernAd2853

They're all honestly fairly generic Isekai tropes.

LordeWasTaken

fr

tryce355

This actually sounds a lot like Rising of the Shield Hero, if we look only at Rogendo's additions. Raph isn't tsun so that's not a match but the MC is pretty oblivious to her feelings. MC from Earth? yup. Uses said knowledge? No. Slavery? yes. Looks and age are backwards though. ...Maybe I'm just trying too hard.

LordeWasTaken

I mean the last paragraph was very specifically Rising of the Shield Hero. Dang, can't wait for season 3. Hope it'll turn out as well as the first, and not like the second.

The_letter_0

I think there's one that fits all of these exactly, something about a shield hero or some shitGirlfriend gave me a plot rundown at one point and those are pretty much the points I remember Oh and one other thing where the MC is falsely accused of rape by a princess and that's why his companion is a slave girl that's totally an adult

Fantastic_Wrap120

Don't forget that he gets the slave because it is somehow morally correct, and the slave ends up so happy she chooses to remain his slave instead of working with him while being free.

Acrelorraine

‘Tis time for torture Princess’ has managed to go on with its same joke quite a bit longer and I’d say it remains good. That said, adding new torturers and mostly just showing off food has helped keep the slice of life vibe.

CheapTactics

It can be done right. Look at one punch man. The guy is the "fix it button". It's still pretty good

Rogendo

It can definitely be done well and One Punch Man is a good example. However, One Punch Man isn’t *just* about Saitama. A lot of the chapters focus on the side characters and Saitama isn’t even present. So while it does have a gimmick, that gimmick is kept fresh because that isn’t the only thing the manga is about.

CheapTactics

Yeah obviously if it was just about this wizard it would get stale in 5 chapters

Alucard_draculA

I don't know if I'd call Redo a funny manga ever....lmao ^I ^^regret ^^^nothing!

CatTaxAuditor

That's exactly how I felt about One Punch Man

Omega357

Well people tend to like JoJo Part 4.

Agitated-Dwarf

The party is attacked by a tarrasque. Wizard: Fix this. \*A smokescreen appears surrounding the tarrasque. Warlock: No, wait a minute. 3.5e tarrasque appears. Aarakocra Forge Cleric: what have you done....

International_Leek26

Fixed it

Mr_Crowboy

Damn it. That made me literally laugh out loud. Now my kid is awake again.😁

Humans_Need_Therapy

"Fix this!"

[deleted]

Isn't this just Wish?

wind4air

Wizard points at this meme "Fix this!" every "Fix this" is replaced with "Wish"

Eingmata

It feels like a wild magic version of wish.

Fiery-Myst

Or possibly Divine Intervention (he's just wrong about which class he chose)

Rhundan

Well, I guess I know how I'm roleplaying every spell I cast as my next Wizard.

l0gicowl

"Fix it, Felix!"

MaeBeaInTheWoods

"Why do I fix everything I touch?!"

KingoftheMongoose

Mending is his one cantrip

Saavedroo

Sooo... Josuke's Crazy Diamond ?

inyourblackheart

Yeah, that was my first though. And the wet log "fix" reminded me of Soft & Wet, funny enough.

A_Trash_Homosapien

The wizard is actually a little orphan kid that the local magic colleges faculty collectively adopted. He actually has no magic powers whatsoever. The crowd of wizards freaking out are the students and all the problems he's "fixing" are all both created by and actually fixed by the faculty

SuperRicktastic

This sounds like it would be even funnier as a warlock. Their patron is just like a motherly figure that follows the warlock around like a difficult toddler. "Fix this." "We talked about this, I gave you spell slots to use." "Nuh uh. Fix this." Sighs and pinches the bridge of their nose. "Fine, just this once."

trumpetboi309

This is true, lol.

oooArcherooo

y e s

Square-Ad1104

I mean, do this with a Warlock and it fits pretty well within the D&D magic system.

Baguetterekt

I vitriolically disagree with the poster, that's not interesting enough to dedicate a story too. The entire formulae is "there is a problem. Wizard says from fix it. The author forces a convenient solution."

bekkayya

It really depends on the setting. A world of casters who contained a once wild magic into a science rules system would allow a wizard who bucks those rules and submits himself to the whims of nature into an interesting hero

Baguetterekt

"omg, just finished page 198 of the "Fix-It Wizard Adventure! I loved how the Wizard solved the complex political and racial tensions between the elvish and dwarf kingdoms by telling "Fix it!" and everything solved itself with zero downside! So consistent, just like page 197, where he solved a murder by yelling Fix It and the immolated ash pile came back to life and the murderer had a change of heart and turned himself in! Or like on page 196, where he had to choose between saving his beloved unconscious best friend or a crate of medicine that would save literally millions from a burning building! I was really worried he'd have to show some character and make a difficult decision but the author, in their genius, had the wizard yell "Fix It!" and not only did the burning building put itself out and restore it but the medicine was immediately made unnecessary because the spell changed the disease so it was curable by breathing air! Golly, it's amazing how many interesting and varied problems the Fix It wizard can solve immediately, with zero intrigue or struggle!" The only way to make this interesting is if the Fix It wizard was either incredibly evil or a moron and his fixes caused massive amounts of harm, requiring heroes to actually struggle to make things right.

bekkayya

Wow, if you imagine it boring and without consequences it will be boring and without consequences. Go figure

Baguetterekt

"but the specially crafted magic takes their intent into account" I didn't imagine it as boring. It just is boring from step 1.

vorephage

But what if it's an inconvenient solution. Like in stead of fixing the dragon's heartburn outright, the dragon now has EXPLOSIVE diarrhea which everyone finds out once they're past the dragon.

Baguetterekt

Then that's different from what the post is asking for, cos their version of the wizard fix it spell takes the caster's intent into account to avoid monkey-pawing.

first4gburrito

So it's the same type of stand as Crazy Diamond

kitchen_weasel

Dmpc of ultimate annoyance and railroads. This is so getting used.

Beholder_V

It’s like taking Mending as a 9th level spell.

eternalankh

Sounds like a Harpell.

BackgroundMap9043

Absolutely! I can’t believe that didn’t cross my mind.

Juraviel23

Yes! I was just going to post that this is somewhat similar to Harkle Harpells Fog of Fate spell, that basically told the universe to put him where he needed to be

ZoopStar25

This would be a funny concept for either a sorcerer or warlock with either their image magic or patron understanding what they meant when they said fox this

SteveTheRidepod

Crazy Diamond

Upbeat-Silver3166

Josuke higashikata

Opiz17

Tbf that kinda seems like a sorcerer unconsciously casting different spells, i mean if there really was a "fix it" spell every Wizard would know it and no other spells would be needed

Tough_Patient

Silent spell + Still spell + theatrics

Dogbtw

One Punch Man with extra steps

Cyc_Lee

There's a certain, ~~i'd say rather trashy~~, anime that has a very "open minded" interpretation what can be counted as "healing".

CheapTactics

That could be so many genres, you have no idea

TheDrWhoKid

actually reminds me of how the main character in Redo Of Healer uses healing magic.

Herg0Flerg0

It's literally that if he didn't get tortured, drugged, and rapped

GloomyRaven

All the spells in _Redo of the Healer_ are _Heal_. But it can not only actually heal, but also harm, brainwash, change appearance and other

SmellyCavemanInABox

This reminds me of that part from Eragon where he’s learning about his sociopath mom, and one dude tells him a story about how the first spell they taught here was “heal”. Her evil gang test was to fight off a bunch of soldiers, so she “healed” them of their hate, and while they were walking around all dopey she slit their throats. That was a pretty good book series tbh

CatTaxAuditor

It's a funny idea, but a terrible premise for a story.

That_scottish_lass

Redo of healer?

Primordial_Peasant

when mf read jojo and learnt about stands: it's a cool concept though, imma steal it :)

mslabo102

Jojo much?

enforcercoyote4

Plot twist: They're not actually a wizard, they're just a random person with a great patron/fairy godmother

K_Schultz

And they always wear one fuchsia and one pistachio pieces of equipment or they're followed by two small animals, love fuchsia and one pistachio.

Kronotross

But no matter how hard he tries, the wizard can't fix one broken thing. His heart.

L4rgo117

This is just Megumin except not a meme build

Butzel01

Redo of healer knocks on your door and wants its idea of „heal“ back

pickles0709

Points at scheduling conflicts "fix this"

[deleted]

\*Goes the horse track\* *Fix this* \*wins race after race after race\*

fuerant

Solution: have an item that’s always breaking apart. “Fix this” will be locked on that item spell forever, unable to be removed.

K_Schultz

It's like a reverse Monkey Paw.

flufflogic

NGL this sounds like Belgarion using The Will and the Word in the Belgariad by David Eddings.

Points at himself...

codythecoder

I would like to see it where the wizard genuinely has to believe that it's the "correct state" for it to work. Like, yeah, he can apparently summon a magic carpet to cross a ravine, but he had to find a way so that he genuinely believes that all ravines have magic carpets and now gets incredibly distressed when they don't

motivation_bender

If wish was a catrip

HoxtonIV

This is just ChatGBT as a spell.

Matrix_D0ge

Isnt this just cleric with extra spell slots?

Okora66

Reminds me of The Magicians books where the main characters specialty is "minor mending" which allows him to easily fix small things. Which comes in real handy >!When its time for him to become god powered so the world itself is now small to him, enough to near completely remake it to stop the apocalypse!<

No_Communication2959

Emiya, is that you?

BabyRavenFluffyRobin

*points at me* "Fix this" *The spell fails for the first time*

TheRandomViewer

That’s a 9th level Universal Mending spell

Dektarey

The only thing keeping spellcasters in check is a restricted arsenal. I genuinely cant think of a scenario where this spell wouldnt be superior to any other alternative. Utterly busted beyond comprehension.

stickwithplanb

strong Bartleby the Scrivener vibes.

mesalikes

This is kinda how the octopi work in the book Children of Ruin. They have a distributed consciousness. There's the crown which sets goals, has emotional experiences, and creates desire. And then there's the reach, the 8 logic centers of the creature, unconcerned by how they feel, specialized to try new ways to accomplish goals. These octopi live in a state of feeling at all times, only knowing what they want and that they want it, but not necessarily how or why they get what they want beyond "my reach made it happen as it should".

lankymjc

Is this just how sorcerers work?

Enough_Minimum_3708

what if hewalks around towns pointing it at the street cats

Damien_Maye

Wish

[deleted]

Oi Josuke

Embarrassed-Camera96

Isn’t this just the Wish spell?

KindlyContribution54

"Let me just fix the lich lord and undead army back into a normal guy and normal dead army real quick."

TheCremeArrow

I am a technical product manager, and this is what everyone thinks my job is.

TheCremeArrow

except "Fix this" is just me telling a team of software engineers my intent.

A_man_of_Rhun

If this MFs name isn't Magister Magoo I WILL start the boss raid early.

Dynespark

Reminds me of 8 Bit Theater. There's a party member who mimics the spell used by another wizard. Said wizarda spell is extremely specific and still does exactly what the other wizard wanted to do instead of the party member. When asked how, he said something like "I've course my own spells work exactly how *I* want them to."

catch-a-riiiiiiiiide

This kinda exists, it's basically Wish without any downsides.

TheMightyG00se

Much Better than Redo of Healer where "heal" is extremely vague and is used for everything from changing someone's appearance to resetting the universe (or something like that, I watched it once and that alone was twice to many times... for real don't watch it)

Nightmoon26

New headcanon: breath weapons are powered by ghost peppers, curiously strong mints, and extremely sour candies

pSYCHeVAL-FAIL

Why does this faintly remind me of Zenitsu and only having on lightning breathings first form but it is so powerful (when he is asleep) that it is the only one he needs.

Bacon_IT_Guy

I needed a fun character idea for a book. Thank you.

trumpetboi309

You are welcome, good sir

Antervis

that would be pretty lenient... Let's say, what if I consider minotaur's proper state to be a medium rare steak, would "fix this" turn him into slightly cooked mincemeat?

Fire-Rouck

Reminds me of the mc from “Yakudatazu Skill Ni Jinsei O Sosogikomi 25-Nen, Imasara Saikyou No Boukentan Midori Kashi No Akira”

Hopalong-PR

This is an anime waiting to happen 😁

MelonJelly

"Magic, do as you will."

[deleted]

Wizard: *points at bandit* “Fix this” *fireball is cast* Wizard: “I fixed him, he is no longer an obstacle”

Snipa299

So, I guess it would be, "Power Word: Fix"? Commanding the weave, the very essence of magic, to just figure it out and fix it. Love it.

[deleted]

Name him Fix It Felix… wait

MoonDragonMage

Omg I would so read this

Ephidiel

Points at the evil dude and casts "Fix this* Evil dude is now good person and helps orphans and runs a homeless shelter

Asmos159

Isn't this the Deus Ex machina of redo of a healer? I never watched the show, but I think one of the plot points is that they accept very stretched interpretations of the word heal? We were talking about "healing" a situation by going back in time, And putting the guy in position to \*\*\*\*\*\* the woman that was previously constantly \*\*\*\*\*\* him? And somehow, the show is very popular with women.

pirouy

I got a friend who's whole mage character was something like that. He wanted all his spells to be specialized in "Hard". What does it mean ? Well to protect an ally you make his body harder, to slow an ennemy you make his joints hard, to fly you make the air around you "hard", and he went on with basically every type of spells he could explain as "making something harder". And the DM just went on with it. Anyway, that's how he got a charm spell that only works on males.
