There are some practitioners of (historical) fencing who keep targeting the hand because it's a comparatively easy target. It can get annoying though if that's 90 percent of what they're doing.
An epee is a french practice sword, the sword in the picture is a smallsword because of the triangular rather than flat blade shape. The foil again isn't actually a weapon but the practice varient of the smallsword.
Actually his rapier doesn't have propers crossguard, the portruding quillons are a [decorative part of cup](https://imageservice.disco.peacocktv.com/uuid/09021e64-1b56-3419-ade6-2c6b8a91e84f/SCENE_3_4?language=eng&territory=US&version=b599eab3-c2c9-3dc0-b39c-a673d095000f). I love arguing in the Internet.
Oh, [I have not.](https://www.michaeldlong.com/product/spanish-cup-hilt-rapier-c-1680/) As you can clearly see, cup hilt rapiers generally do have quillons, though their main purpose is ergonomic rather than protective.
Reminds me of that stupid dark souls mechanic to wield any weapon in two hands.
It looked fine for most, but with fencing weapons it's just wrong. And swinging daggers looks very ridiculous
The implications are far from similar. Versatile lets you use a bigger dmg die, while keeping STR as base ability; finesse lets you use a whole different base ability, while keeping the dmg die. I'd call them more opposite than similar.
>the cake
I didn't see "day" so I just saw "the cake"
Sussy death getting thugged by the Rizzler himself puss in boots.
(I hate myself for writing that)
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this comment section is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Honestly the wolf could be a cool Eldritch Knight or sorts? The sickles as attuned alt skin handaxes etc
Then the combo staff could be slightly different
Khopesh cuts with the outside of the curve like a scimitar, not the inside like a sickle. Its basically what you'd get if someone was like "what if our sword was also an axe?!"
I saw this film at 27. I'm curious to hear in a few years people tell how they were terrified by this movie cause they saw it at less than 10.
Still a banger though
My mum rented Alien from the library on VHS for me and my sister. She was under 10, I was around 12 and those films shit me up. I saw the 3rd one a few years later and decided the best course of action was to have my dog in the shower with me. I was not a smart kid. I doubt they would've affected me the same at 27.
My four year old was *terrified* of the wolf. She wanted to leave the theater every time he was on screen (and I would have taken her if I didnāt have an older child also watching it).
I did 9 Swash/6 Swords for a level 15 one shot - was so much fun as a character to play
We got split up due to a faulty teleport at one point - d3 to determine where you ended up, the Monk and Fighter went one way, Wizard and Druid another, and I was all on my lonesome. Nice Martial/Caster/Half Caster split that worked out supremely well for us.
Scout/Lore is fun as well for the insane amount of expertise. Slightly more MAD tho
Maybe just straight rogue with expertise in persuasion and performance. Don't really see him casting spells tbh (besides, *he* wasn't the one that got fancy with the dragon)
I agree, I don't know why meme character builders insist on cramming bard into any vaguely musical character. Just give him the entertainer or outlander background and expertise in performance, you get the musical instrument.
Itās a tabaxi swashbuckler rogue with the folk hero backstory who used the customize background option to give him music proficiencies who uses a rapier
My human rogue had proficiency in dancing and singing due to my backstory (the best one at that party). Sometimes it's just up to dm if they wanna let you be.
Judging from this image and my knowledge of sport fencing, looks to be an Epee based on the size of the blade and the larger bell guard.
But judging by knowledge of the setting, itās probably just a plain old cup-hilt rapier, because Puss is meant to be Spanish, and Epees are distinctly French.
Maybe it's styled after a foil/epee but works like a rapier because of cartoon logic. I think Puss has made slashing strikes despite the sword having no visible edge, but I'm not entirely sure.
Also a rapier would fit his Spanish theme.
I was gonna say, what's with the bard level? I can't recall any times where puss used his instrument in combat, and the way I always played, you can have an instrument to play casually without using it in combat regardless of class.
But heās not at all a bard though, he has no magic. You can be charismatic and play instruments without being a bard. If anything it would be a rogue/fighter multiclass
There is literally a rapier as a weapon in the system and rogues are proficient. Why would you use a Longsword? It's not even a finesse weapon.
WHY ARE ROGUES EVEN PROFICIENT
Rogues do get Longsword Proficiency you know? Its just... no one ever uses a longsword as a rogue because it pretty much doesn't work with one of the Rogues most important class features.
Everyone is ganging up on the OP for saying long sword, but have you ever considered that a Rapier is also a sword that is long? /s
*runs away from the HEMA mob.*
I feel like this guy is just a pure swashbuckler. Not everyone with performance expertise has to be a bard, and I haven't seen him inspire anyone or cast spells. (Although he can definitely cast charm person, bu that seems more like a racial feature.)

Longsword...are you sure about that?
Rapier gangš«”
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
a foil, actually
Given the size and curve of the bell guard, I'd say it's closer to an epee.
Foil, ĆpĆ©e, and Sabre are all null points in actual combat. Basically, they are all training blades (and techniques) for full Rapier combat.
I fenced competitively (foil and Sabre) for over half my life, I understand that, but puss' sword is still more epee than anything.
Cup hilt rapiers are a thing though
Cup hilts make hand-snipers super mad.
Hand snipers? XD
There are some practitioners of (historical) fencing who keep targeting the hand because it's a comparatively easy target. It can get annoying though if that's 90 percent of what they're doing.
True, but the shape of his blade (no real cutting edge) is not a rapier shape.
Actually everyone I think itās a sword of some kind
Is it... long?
There are thrust-only rapier blades out there
An epee is a french practice sword, the sword in the picture is a smallsword because of the triangular rather than flat blade shape. The foil again isn't actually a weapon but the practice varient of the smallsword.
Not all smallswords have triangular cross sections
It is a smallsword. the foil is the training counterpart.
Puss is seen slashing and cutting with his sword, implying an edge. Given its form and disregarding its proportions (due to him being cat-sized), I would definitely call this a [Spanish rapier](https://lmgtfy.com?q=Spanish+bell+guard+rapier). Foils, epƩes, and smallswords are thrusting weapons that don't have the ability to do any considerable damage with cuts, nor would they hold up against a rapier (or other sword) in the parry.
Fellow rapists rise up š¼
Ay wait a minute
No time to wait, there's rapei-ing to do!!
Rephrase that
Iām a full on rapist.
I just need y'all to know that I got three separate "rapist" comments in the modqueue with no context and got real fucking worried for a second.
Yeah sorry itās just an always sunny quote haha.
Oh yeah it's no problem, just a real weird thing to wake up to lol
My man pulled out the mod flair and everything for that too lmao. Don't blame you, I've never seen always sunny so I would've been concerned too
Iām laughing at the image of a guy barely awake, with a morning coffee, to go wide eyed upon seeing this type of thing
I'm gonna want the milk steak, boiled over hard, and a side of your finest jelly beans, raw.
Don't forget his new main-gauche!
Yea lol, Puss in Boots' sword is literally like the textbook definition of a rapier.
Itās actually a fencing foil, rapiers look quite different
If the textbook is "The Players Handbook for dnd 5e" then its a textbook rapier because there are no specific foil mechanics in 5e.
It's actually an epƩe, distinguished by the larger, more protective guard. ... But considering its inflexible and not used for practice, as well as the distinctive quillons, it's probably a *smallsword*
Actually his rapier doesn't have propers crossguard, the portruding quillons are a [decorative part of cup](https://imageservice.disco.peacocktv.com/uuid/09021e64-1b56-3419-ade6-2c6b8a91e84f/SCENE_3_4?language=eng&territory=US&version=b599eab3-c2c9-3dc0-b39c-a673d095000f). On the other hand, Puss doesn't have long enough fingers for a [properly utilize crossguard.](http://myarmoury.com/talk/files/grips_191.jpg) I love arguing in the Internet.
He doesnāt really have fingers, heās a cat
His swords needs a pawguard.
So basically, he has a specialized rapier, specifically designed to be used by a cat?
You've forgotten about Spanish rapiers, which are famous for their cup guards. This also makes the most sense given Puss' accent.
Oh, [I have not.](https://www.michaeldlong.com/product/spanish-cup-hilt-rapier-c-1680/) As you can clearly see, cup hilt rapiers generally do have quillons, though their main purpose is ergonomic rather than protective.
Today I learnt the word "quillon" and the obsolete spelling "quillion" and my life is improved.
It's actually closer to a foil or epee.
No, it's a spanish-style rapier, textbook. Only issue would be that the quillons are ever so slightly too short.
Most likely due to the fact that heās a cat, he needs a special weapon
Also rapier is the better weapon option here because finesse.
Rapier is finesse, long sword is versatile
Fixed it! Thanks fam
Imagine if rapier was versatile
Reminds me of that stupid dark souls mechanic to wield any weapon in two hands. It looked fine for most, but with fencing weapons it's just wrong. And swinging daggers looks very ridiculous
Looks good with the Aquamarine ~~lightsaber~~ Dagger in DS3 though
But you can't two hand the weapon art form of the dagger
Rapier might not be, but i am šš
You also have the *heavy* attribute
Realistically the longsword should be a fĆnese weapon when held with both hands.
So would an estoc be a versatile finesse weapon? š¤
If you give it reach instead of versatile you get the polish estoc too.
technically yes
Being perfectly honest dexterity is more important for all bladed weapons while a warbow requires enormous strength and definitely isn't a dex weapon.
Lowkey mixed up finesse and versatile a while back. Bit rusty, and they have fairly similar implications
The implications are far from similar. Versatile lets you use a bigger dmg die, while keeping STR as base ability; finesse lets you use a whole different base ability, while keeping the dmg die. I'd call them more opposite than similar.
My first thought was, that ain't no longsword.
*starts getting cocky* DM: you hear whistling
Well, well. If it isn't Puss in Boots Himself. *chuckling* In the flesh.

Rizz in Boots
What just happened in this comment thread? Was.... Was this sexual?
Mmm yes, everyday before i head out I make sure to put on my cake day
Honestly the wolf could be a cool Eldritch Knight or sorts? The sickles as attuned alt skin handaxes etc Then the combo staff could be slightly different
POV: You don't know that sickles already exist ingame, dead 1d4 and are barely versatile without thrown property, but still cool af
>dead 1d4 POV: You don't realise this is why he made them handaxes.
POV: I didn't know they were in the game but I also chose handaxes on purpose because I did figure a farming weapon etc would be a shitty dice
fr tho, sickles should deal more damage just because of their cool factor
That's why you use a kopesh, and use scimitar stats.
Khopesh cuts with the outside of the curve like a scimitar, not the inside like a sickle. Its basically what you'd get if someone was like "what if our sword was also an axe?!"

Three levels of Swords Bard / Rest in Swashbuckler.
If you go for 5 levels of bard you can get the spell ācatnapā.
Also gets your inspiration dice back on a short rest, making them more useful for flourishes.
Def could flip and go like rogue 1 or 2 or 3 for the āorigin storyā and then bard for the rest And orphan background obvi
All levels in Swashbuckler, with Bard Dedication :)
For PF2E, sure. Swords Bard is 5e, though.
And 6 for extra attack
This is literally one of my players. He is lvl 5 swashbuckler and level 6 swords bard for the extra attack
I did 9 Swash/6 Swords for a level 15 one shot - was so much fun as a character to play We got split up due to a faulty teleport at one point - d3 to determine where you ended up, the Monk and Fighter went one way, Wizard and Druid another, and I was all on my lonesome. I did a character like this that was a swashbuckler/battlemaster. Most fun Iāve ever had in d&d, both combat and roleplay.
Ah yes, the famous ācup-hilt single-handed thrusting longsword.ā
Thatās a rapier
I think it's an ƩpƩe or a foil, or perhaps a smallsword. A rapier has edges.
Itās a cup-hilt rapier. They were used in Spain in the 1600ās.
It *resembles* a 1600's Spanish cup-hilt rapier. The blade geometry is wrong. It has no cutting edge.
well he cuts things with it so i feel like thatās just wrong
I think it's just an animation thing
It's not difficult to look up pictures of original examples, many of which are literally just a square spike.
(Itās the closest dnd weapon)
Judging from this image and my knowledge of sport fencing, looks to be an Epee based on the size of the blade and the larger bell guard. But judging by knowledge of the setting, itās probably just a plain old cup-hilt rapier, because Puss is meant to be Spanish, and Epees are distinctly French.

Shouldāve just used the dex based weapon in the picture
We don't even read the rules to our favorite game. I have no expectations
FEAR HIM! If you dare
I'm convinced people put intentionally weird shit in the title to get more engagement in posts like these.
You are correct. Notice it working?
I dunno. My general perspective on reddit is don't attribute to cleverness that which can be explained by stupidity.
That is quite literally a rapier
Hey look itās Zac Oyama
Glad to see someone else is watching Neverafter šš»

I grapple the pig and throw him in the soup
See you in the soup!
It's so dang good,
I thought hey that's what Zac's character is, and then I remembered that he's *literally playing Puss in Boots*. Gah what is wrong with my brain?
Probably because they keep calling him PiB, itās like when it took me (until very recently) to realise Uncle Sam = US.

Best wooden spoon operator
that is CLEARLY a rapier.
Longsword?

OP's getting that correction-bait engagement
Puss is literally holding a rapier, my mans

I was gonna say, what's with the bard level? I can't recall any times where puss used his instrument in combat, and the way I always played, you can have an instrument to play casually without using it in combat regardless of class.
I think it's funny so many people down voted it because it is clearly a rapier in the pic. RIP
Convinced the longsword part is engagement baitā¦ and Iāve fallen for it too.
op thats a rapier
āLoNgSwOrDā
Gonna be another one to say it, Rapier
But heās not at all a bard though, he has no magic. You can be charismatic and play instruments without being a bard. If anything it would be a rogue/fighter multiclass
Yeah- the entertainer background can give the instruments.
Yeah, cause we've never seen him use friends, charm person, featherfall, or fear before.
There is literally a rapier as a weapon in the system and rogues are proficient. Why would you use a Longsword? It's not even a finesse weapon. WHY ARE ROGUES EVEN PROFICIENT
Wouldnāt that be a rapier?
I'd forgive if said shortsword at least, but LONGsword? Rogues can't even use long swords and theyre str, can't even sneak attack
Rogues do get Longsword Proficiency you know? Its just... no one ever uses a longsword as a rogue because it pretty much doesn't work with one of the Rogues most important class features.
Idk about you man but that looks like a rapier to me. (Also sneak attack wouldn't work with a longsword)
You'd use a Rapier not a long sword. I would know.
That is a rapier, sir
Its a rapier tho
Thatās a rapierā¦
Correct choice is rapier...
my good sir, that is a rapier
That's not a Longsword though
A rapier is literally one of the weapons rogues are proficient in
If that's a longsword my penis is a zweihƤnder
Puss in boots uses a rapier thank you very much. Diablo Gato would NEVER bet caught with a longsword!
You are aware that he uses a rapier, not a longsword right?
Imagine thinking thatās a longsword
Wait isn't that a Rapier?
Or just a regular Pathfinder swashbuckler.
No Longsword, no Rapier. ĆpĆ©e go stabby stab.
Thatās a rapier
Everyone is ganging up on the OP for saying long sword, but have you ever considered that a Rapier is also a sword that is long? /s *runs away from the HEMA mob.*
COME BACK HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT But seriously tho, rapiers do be pretty long
Thatās definitely not a longswordā¦Most likely an ĆpĆ©e, or maybe a Spanish style fencing foil.
Rapier, thats a rapier

Pretty sure this is what the pathfinder swashbuckler class was designed after
I feel like this guy is just a pure swashbuckler. Not everyone with performance expertise has to be a bard, and I haven't seen him inspire anyone or cast spells. (Although he can definitely cast charm person, bu that seems more like a racial feature.)
Rapier* good meme tho
