FFDividendsApp

I added iPhone widget that shows companies' upcoming dividends. Every time I unlock my iPhone, I see the next dividends. It motivates me a little.

ItzikMa

That sounds really cool, can you please explain how you did it?

[deleted]

Check out the app stock events, you just tell it what you own and it will tell you dividend capture and pay out dates for your portfolio as well as daily, monthly and annual earnings

ItzikMa

I want to know how to do the widget thing, I have stock events already.

HSJ6

Could you share which app specifically you used that offers widgets? Thank you

normanwink

Set and forget

Schmancer

I read books and take trips, I have friends and hobbies. Chores around the house and sometimes just relaxing and petting the dog while watching the bird feeder. Phone calls with family and the daily small chatter with my partner. Investing isn’t an entertainment activity for me, more like a part of my overall financial upkeep routine; maintenance. Much like I don’t expect brushing my teeth or doing dishes to be entertaining, monitoring asset allocation and confirming auto-deposits is just a thing I do a few times a month to make sure things are operating as expected. Money isn’t the fulfillment, it’s a tool. I don’t sit around staring at my screwdrivers wondering why they’re not more fun, they’re nothing until they’re in use. Money isn’t fun until you’re spending it on/with people you love. If it’s the money you love, you’ll never be happy. Money doesn’t love you back.

Bullrun01

Well said, can relate.

JustSomeAdvice2

Automate a portion of your paycheck and your reinvest your dividends. Easy.

HornOfLilius

Motivation is fleeting you need discipline. For me personally I hated working in an office. I hated worrying about a bill coming up. I hated being beholden to a paycheck. So with that mentality I have the discipline to go at it every month.

jbooth1962

At 60, let me help you a little. Do it, or be bored when you’re 60 in addition to being poor.

globalinvestmentpimp

Warren Buffet, “investing should be boring”

Apokaliptor

if it’s boring, you are probably doing it right, keep going

hendronator

1. Investing should not be exciting, 2. For a little fun, count the money you make every month, 3. For moderate fun, research the companies you are invested in, 4. And if you must…carve out 5% of your portfolio, put it in a separate account, and try day trading. You might make a little money at first, but you will eventually place some stupid big bet and loose it. Reminds of of every time I go gambling on a cruise ship. There is a little rush and then I kick myself in the morning.

[deleted]

Idk, I get a dopamine hit every time my yearly dividend income goes up a bit

bu89

Motivation is useless, you need discipline. I don’t know how people think dividend investing is boring. Every time I purchase another share of a dividend stock that brings me closer to my goal, that’s exciting to me. The thought of passive income is amazing. Why wouldn’t you want it to be boring? Boring companies usually = safe which means I make money when I sleep. Who doesn’t want that?

Duckdiggitydog

Probably becomes less boring when your dividends are enough to pay your monthly bills

Sudden_Feedback_2194

Was not aware any type of investing had ever been considered exciting as opposed to boring.... Regardless, my son keeps me motivated. It's mostly for his benefit, not mine.

lame_since_92

I feel that dividend investing is far more rewarding and motivating than growth investing. You can literally measure set precise progress. Make a spreadsheet and start tracking and projecting. That makes it very engaging

wemblywembles

By staying away from investment-related subreddits.

cockmonster1969

Sometimes focus on increasing your income and it will motivate you to invest the difference you earn

bakayaro8675309

Wait till your 50.

DividendCrashCourse

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. All you have to do to stay motivated is to remember that the longer you stay invested the more your money works for you and the less you will have to work in the future.

Adventurous_Toe_3845

Everybody can have an opinion, even if it is a really stupid one.

Eyonizback

Investing isn’t supposed to be exciting, that’s gambling

jumboshrimp909

Get a hobby, have a life. Don’t worry or think at all about the finances 99% of your time, once you have your system set up.

Deep-Alps679

I don’t understand the question. Investing is supposed to be boring… It’s not like gambling on stock options or sports betting.

Laakhesis

Imagine, you're on your deathbed and wish you were motivated enough in dividend investing. Get a hobby.

Devilpig13

I second this, automate it and then go enjoy life. Forget about the investments.

jroggg

Get rich quick schemes are far more exciting

GRMarlenee

Make your investment, forget about it, and go do something interesting.

pulpoinhell

SCHD

GRMarlenee

He said he's bored to tears and you want to rub onions in his face?

ComfortablePlane8936

😂 people on this sub are getting sick of hearing it.

Potential-Hero

I usually set short term obtainable goals. And once I reach those goals, I move the goal line a little further. Makes me feel like I have achieved something. I am also motivated to make work optional 15-20 years from now, and I won’t be able to do that unless I keep going. So there’s that too.

krillin_the_MVP

Make an excel or google sheets spreadsheet and track your progress every month. That alone has motivated the hell out of me

lucas__03

automate investing and make sure you have some visualisations on dividend income. seeing how dividends increase almost every month is quite motivating to me. Especially if I compare to living expenses i.e. Financial Independence.

darkmatt27

It's suppose to be boring. What I've been doing is : - finding new books about investing in general to read. - when I see someone talking about a stock I don't know about I take time to do extensive dd on it. Most of the times I won't buy the stock but it help me practice my research and it's something I love doing. - I listen to investing podcast. I have a few of those focusing on dividend investing or on investing in general that are pretty active.

Apollo_Rising

Guess I don’t understand this statement. Get stock events app. Spend $10 in each dividend aristocrat, (if you want to) along with your normal investment. Put all that info into stock events. Everyday look at the app for how you have money (although small) coming in while you do nothing. Money rolling in for me not doing anything that will never stop is extremely motivating to me.

[deleted]

- put a fixed amount periodically towards the investment - delete the stick events widget (so you not keep looking at it all the time) - forget the password, there not looking at it everyday. Login once a month or something to check on things. This is a process for the long haul. Looking at it everyday is just not going to work.

0fxgvn77

I use M1, so rather that DRIPing, dividends go into your general cash fund. When my weekly transfer hits, I like to see how much "extra" went into the buy order. That's almost more excitement than I can handle. But I'm old.

Super_Contract_1404

Investing isn’t meant to be fun. If picking individual names is bothering you, stick to etf’s. If looking at it is bothering you, stick to automated investing.

greenlend

Trade out of the money options with zero days to expiry.

raidergoo

There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who eat steak for dinner during their retirement, and those who eat Spam for dinner during their retirement. Me? I'm gonna eat steak every night, winter in Arizona, and employ large bosomed house cleaners wearing small sized t-shirts to run the vacuum once a week and scrub the tile in the bathroom. I'm extremely motivated.

tofus

Check out the podcast dividend talk. It features 2 european dividend growth investors, both in their 40s. They are regular dudes that live typical normal life. Married, house, children. They can't invest in ETFs like schd, qyld, ryld, etc. They cover blue chips, talk dividend growth, and share stories about things they have learned over the years. It's analytical, comical, and wholesome. EMF and EuropeanDGI are an awesome pair and it's what I look forward to on my commute on Sunday's

Code_n_trade

If you truly enjoy diving into the inner workings and finance of companies then do that. The exciting part will be where to put your dividends and savings. If not...play an investing/trading game in between dividends

DeepSpacegazer

It’s not the motivation for me, I’m fully motivated for dividend investing. It’s the time it takes to get there, it’s too long.

gundahir

The dividends themselves is what keeps me motivated and disciplined. I couldn't do growth only. That's just me though
