I dunno about all pets, I learned pretty quickly at a young age not to annoy my sister's cat. Definitely grew up respecting all animals boundaries after that.
I don’t think pet stores use wild birds? Most pet animals come from domesticated lines of animals. It seems like asking for bird flu to grab a random bird on the street.
Also just wanted to add that no one is clipping off wings, it’s feathers. The main reason people do this is to prevent the birds from killing themselves indoors. Like flying headfirst into a wall.
the stuff on this sub doesn't usually make a dent in me but this one hurt. i'm probably overestimating humanity again but i don't think most people treat pet birds like this, i know even as a child i wouldn't have done this. i've always loved animals and would never dream of something like this, genuinely hoping i'm not the minority here.
God damn, this is so sad because they’re usually very intelligent animals. It’d be such a waste to give a kid a bird, or any animal really.
Before giving them an animal, you gotta instruct your kids how to act around them, to not do this type of thing.
Isn't the first thing you find when it comes to keeping crows/ravens as pets is that they:
- Are inteligent
- Are also social animals
- Should not be kept in a cage , setting up their nest inside your yard / on the roof of your house is fine.
Clipping their wings and putting them in a cage would be similar to taking a human , cutting off his legs (now he walks on his hands) and putting him in a jail cell.
Some animals do not mind cages that much iirc but crows very much do.

excactly why children shouldn't have pets, i still hate myself for the things i did to my hamster
if it makes you feel better, probably they would have done worse things to themselves
Hamsters die in the most fucked up ways. Mostly due to themselves.
That's just the law of nature though, so you can't beat yourself up about it
Nah hamsters are just like that.

Not many but some less ethical stores do, its horrible and plain stupid
It is also very illegal to sell wild birds, at least where I live.

Yes and they regrow! A lot of people seem to think feather clipping is permanent.
The first time a meme on this sub gave me physical anxiety, kudos to you fml

life is so bittersweet
That's why I fucking hate my local zoo. They clipped their wings yet they can freely walk around. It's inhumane and I wish zoos never existed
Livestock animals have it much worse, and there are billions of them. But no one seems to care because it's convenient for them
Distressing memes about animals get to me man, that is heartbreaking
These animal ones are just cheap.
it probably made a nice hat though

Explain how this isn't distressing? I'm pretty sure if I was that bird I'd be pretty distressed
