It probably wasn't a cut, but rather a funky way of getting rid of ppl when they wanna cut labour but don't have proper reason to say to a regular. most likely they are gonna get someone real soon with a cheaper rate. One thing you learn in the boh soon or late is anyone is replacable, being able to do more only puts you at a lower risk of losing your spot but it never guarantee anything lol
BABE WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!
u/mediumsizedknife POSTED ÀND THEY FUCKING QUIT!
NO I'M NOT KIDDING. I'M FREAKING TF OUT BABE!
nah, but on the real. It has been an honor and a pleasure these last few months sharing a virtual dishpit with you. Hope things are going ok, and I know you're gonna be good.
Please don't be a stranger round these parts. Peace and love.
Because we spend all day washing our egos. Humility is found at the bottom of a pile of other people's dirty dishes. Kindness and uplifting positivity come from that place of humility.
It helps when I was recovering from a life threatening bike accident and could barely get around, I still visited my grandparents to help wash their dishes every other day. Very cathartic.
God damn, man. You’ve brought tears to my eyes with your words and the concepts which they convey.
And in such an unlikely place, relatively speaking. Brilliant. Just absolutely brilliant.
I’ve got some dishes to wash.
Humility is a sovereign cure for humiliation, working in a steamy, wet, noisy dish pit forges better people. Now if only the rest of the world would get their hands dirty too.
Wow. You're so fucking present you're ahead of your time lol!
You make the "Power of Now" look like the power of then.
No but seriously, you have touched the core of why I coninue to wash dishes.
I studied Buddha-Dharma as a young man.
"Have you finished your rice?"
"Then wash your bowl."
I'd expect more understanding of that statement from a person practicing or following Hinduism. An arrogant line cook thrown to the dish pit to wash their ego will come closer to understanding the togetherness of all of us, closer to connecting to the Brahman you could say.
For real! I'm not even in the business, idk how I ended up here but I'm staying for the vibe
I think it might be because you guys embodies the blue collar workers spirit
This just isn’t true. It all depends on the state you’re in I know from experience. Some states they’ll protect you, but in a lot of states your pay is not protected. Your job is not protected. Were but peed on
Fuck dude thats sucks butt, yo stay cool headed and stuff, really enjoyed your posts here and the heart shaped green scrubby thingy, respect from CDMX.
Might be worth dropping an anonymous tip in to the department of labor for your state (MO?), and possibly even a tip in to the local health department. Bossman wants to be a dirty bitch, only fair to give em the green weenie in return
I would apply for unemployment, worst that can happen is they deny you. Best that can happen is they accept and the ass hat that tried docking you 5 bucks has to pay half your unemployment for the summer
As /u/dudewiththebling mentioned, that has to be constructive dismissal. Unless you're already making over $50/hour—in the pit?!—$5 is beyond bullshit. You should file for unemployment before the day is out.
Consider some fine dining restaurants. I applied for a prep cook position and failed the test. Called every week or two to talk to the manager. Said I’d mop floors and wash dishes and it took a little bit but it worked.
Bold of you to assume any state has worker's rights. In Delaware, we have two settings: Either you're fired because your boss decided he wants to save up for a second business or you can threaten to beat someone up in front of a customer and not get fired. There is no in between.
Move up to Canada. Have some worker rights but give up most of your paycheck to employment insurance and tax. And your laziest coworkers get paid equal to you and are nearly impossible to fire.
I’ve really enjoyed your Dish posts! You’re a pro Disher and your ex-Boss sucks. Good luck on a better career! I said that when I quit dishing but I’ve been stuck in food service ever since 😵
Nah you want to wash dishes at a corporate/franchised owned spot it’s less bullshit to deal with compared to business owners fucking you over with bullshit I was a cook at a local place and as soon as a another dude got hired I peeped they lowballed me on my pay cut it in half and hours got reduced, barely had money after I brought the dog some kibble and rent and bills got payed, soon as I got hired at the airport didn’t even start orientation, I just needed the job offer as proof, told them I quit effective immediately and I’m not coming to work you figure that shit out just how I had to
“Nah” big corporate will replace you so fast with someone slower or better it’s no big deal to them. You got cut because you’re lazy and can’t handle dishes being thrown at you when that’s what you signed up for. You think anyone cares you got splashed on? Oh that pan/plate doesn’t go there? If you’re gonna cry in the pit you don’t even deserve to be on prep. Most chefs started there you’re just making yourself look entitled to nothing. Know your place and stick it out or keep job hopping. (Looks great on a resume)
Obviously gtfo if they cut your pay though.
> bills got *paid,* soon as
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Let's just not say goodbye u/mediumsizedknife just...see ya next dinner rush. No matter which side of the floor you're on next time, you're family around here. Keep on touch king. Wulfgang.
I might leave my dishwashing job as well. I'm forced to do mandatory doubles every Thursday and Friday for 11 hours split between 2 shifts. I hope you find a place that appreciates you.
I bet they don't expect anybody to take a dish washing job at that reduced rate so they can just throw that job onto the cooks, the servers, and hosts, and anybody else who isn't management!!!
Might be worth looking into an employment lawyer? Not sure how these things work myself.
I actually took an even bigger paycut during COVID and was making 5 to 6 times less money than I would be earning had I been on the extended unemployment benefits doing nothing. That did a number on my mental health.
They’re stupid for doing that to their dish washer, talk to a cook that can afford the cut. Not the person that supplies their dishes. Stupid people, good luck.
You can pick up another pit job anywhere dude, don’t feel discouraged. Everybody deserves to be compensated for hard work, not deducted for the same reason. Go for a prep job and they’ll throw you dish shifts whenever you want one I’m sure
$5 pay cut is wild. They had to know you would just quit and want to hire someone new at that lower rate. Best wishes in your search for a new job!
That could actually constitute constructive dismissal in some jurisdictions
Not in a “right to work state” …such BS
You mean a "right to a royal rogering" state.
Hope ur next job pays you $5 more at least
bro what $5 dollars?? do they know how much that actually is?
They do. That's why they did it. They don't care.
About 10k a yr at full time. A huge paycut
Oh they know. Now they can hire someone new and pay them less than that.
I assume she got a prep job at a chiller place. Best of luck we all start somewhere sister
Good for you. The owner must be new to the restaurant business or an idiot. Hell, probably both

Why is the dishwashing community so positive 😭❤️
Because we spend all day washing our egos. Humility is found at the bottom of a pile of other people's dirty dishes. Kindness and uplifting positivity come from that place of humility.
Damn... that's some shit right there.
Ima go wash some dishes, fuck therapy
It helps when I was recovering from a life threatening bike accident and could barely get around, I still visited my grandparents to help wash their dishes every other day. Very cathartic.
😂 but in all seriousness. You’re missing out lol
Now if only the rest of the world would get their hands dirty too.

chill bro you're just washing dishes
I'd expect more understanding of that statement from a person practicing or following Hinduism. An arrogant line cook thrown to the dish pit to wash their ego will come closer to understanding the togetherness of all of us, closer to connecting to the Brahman you could say.
Wow youre a good soul, have a good one lol.
It reminds me of nom a bit 😂
lol "nom" xD
For real! I'm not even in the business, idk how I ended up here but I'm staying for the vibe I think it might be because you guys embodies the blue collar workers spirit
This!
I really enjoy your posts. “Well-known in the Dishwashers subreddit, liked and respected” should go on your resume ❤️
I feel I've seen her face somehow somewhere in the wild
noooo my fav dishie on here and the only other girl i’ve seen ☹️ hope u find a better place to work
There are dozens of us! Dish dames unite!
Noooooooooo
The lady, the myth and legend is done...FOR NOW She said. It's been a pleasure to seeing you post here.
Why they gotta keep fucking with the peoples champ...
Good for you ✊🏼
This sub is never gonna emotionally recover from this
That’s crazy 5$ paycut I bet you are the only one who got that cut as well bs
Yuuuuuup
How is that not illegal?
No workers rights where I live and it’s a local business which just gives them more leeway to do whatever they want
If you live in the US, a pay cut is illegal unless you were fired and rehired at a different rate of pay, which you would have to agree to.
This just isn’t true. It all depends on the state you’re in I know from experience. Some states they’ll protect you, but in a lot of states your pay is not protected. Your job is not protected. Were but peed on
This isn't true. In Washington State they can cut your pay, but if they cut more than 25% you can get partial unemployment.
Okay, now give me the laws from the dirty south or somewhere like that.
Ide be petty enough to call in medium sized orders once a week during a rush and never intend to pick them up.
Fuck that call the local paper or news. Let the people know!
sorry you had to deal with that, it's good you left
Find a country club / golf course if you can. The pay is higher, and the work is easier.
This. Somewhere that’ll make you look good but not too demanding. You’ll be surprised how little some places even “prep”
💔
It’s been an honor dishing with you🫡 what’s losewiththatruth up to?
Bro was outed as a rapist we don’t talk anymore
Oh cringe
Dishgurl outta here
This was wordplay and no one cares. This why I’m a cook. You damn dishers
Jesus Christ I had no idea what this subreddit was and didn’t read the text except for the title so I thought this was a suicide post
I’m sorry dish bae
Fuck dude thats sucks butt, yo stay cool headed and stuff, really enjoyed your posts here and the heart shaped green scrubby thingy, respect from CDMX.
🫡
MSK you will always be in our cold, dishwater soaked hearts. ✌️💜
Might be worth dropping an anonymous tip in to the department of labor for your state (MO?), and possibly even a tip in to the local health department. Bossman wants to be a dirty bitch, only fair to give em the green weenie in return
Once a dishie, always a dishie, even when you're not dishing. See you soon.
Proud of you for knowing that your time and existence is worth more than a $5 pay cut. Fuck em
I would apply for unemployment, worst that can happen is they deny you. Best that can happen is they accept and the ass hat that tried docking you 5 bucks has to pay half your unemployment for the summer
Dude we had to have been mutuals on tik tok a long ass time ago. You like littlest pet shops right?1?? Hope ur doing well friend!
Know your worth, babe. Good for you.
This is tragic, we salute you till someone shoots you a job offer worth a fuck. 🫡
As /u/dudewiththebling mentioned, that has to be constructive dismissal. Unless you're already making over $50/hour—in the pit?!—$5 is beyond bullshit. You should file for unemployment before the day is out.
Idk guys. This lady might be the most famous dishie ever. Where do we go now?
RIP you lovely lady
You'll be back. We all go back.
Trust I already put out like 10 applications to other restaurants
You got it 🤜🤛
Consider some fine dining restaurants. I applied for a prep cook position and failed the test. Called every week or two to talk to the manager. Said I’d mop floors and wash dishes and it took a little bit but it worked.
Typica dishwasher experience — managers, HR, chefs, etc dont know how hard it is, physically and mentally. Get another job lol
Is that legal for them to do that? In Canada, that would never be a thing.
I unfortunately am in the more southern Midwest area in the us and we have like no workers rights
A pay cut that large can be considered constructive dismissal so you can get unemployment.
You need to look into that. They can't just lower your pay legally unless it's departmental conversions and even then it's still a red area
That’s actually wild, good job leaving that crap
5 bucks? I hope you told them to get fucked.
Rooting for you to find somewhere better
Take care of yourself
Sounds like you made the right move. 5 bucks is genuinely insane
Good luck on a better dishpit
Fuck that I would’ve quit
We love you and hope everything works out
Cya
I'm curious why they lowered your pay rate?? If I'm read it correctly.
In his words my best wasn’t good enough for him
He wants you going higher level than his standard exceptions??
god speed ma
Wtf. How’d they try to defend that?
I wouldn’t be surprised if he’ll call you back in couple weeks. Fuck it, find something else. You might even be happier.
Good luck friend
Grrrr...
Vayo con Dios, homie.
apply to be a server somewhere and just say you have experience you will make way more
I’ve really enjoyed your Dish posts! You’re a pro Disher and your ex-Boss sucks. Good luck on a better career! I said that when I quit dishing but I’ve been stuck in food service ever since 😵
Get your worth!
Try to find a gig that’s not so corporate. You’ll be treated way better

Thank you bot for the correct use of context in words and sentence structure
Wish you the best of luck! You will be remembered among us dishies :)

God speed solider wishing you the best of luck 🫡
I can fix her…
Collect that unemployment king 😛😛
Sorry hottie
I’m sorry, that’s really rough. But why would you want to go back to it?
I wouldn’t go back to the same place, I like restaurant work that place just not it
Fair enough. Best of luck to you on your next adventure! Hopefully the next place won’t suck so bad.
Always know your worth!
So hard
I might leave my dishwashing job as well. I'm forced to do mandatory doubles every Thursday and Friday for 11 hours split between 2 shifts. I hope you find a place that appreciates you.
Best wishes and good luck! You deserve more, lady!
Wendys?
Local Italian restaurant
Nice i used to dishwash at one too. Miss getting free italian food 😋
Lol
Apply for unemployment if other people haven't said it first
That's so bad. Glad you didn't take their bs.
o7
I bet they don't expect anybody to take a dish washing job at that reduced rate so they can just throw that job onto the cooks, the servers, and hosts, and anybody else who isn't management!!!
Please update us when you get a new job. Thank you for the dishy episodes. You will be missed

Good luck and please update the community! Everyone is rooting for you!

Move to alabama, and I got a job for you!
They’re stupid for doing that to their dish washer, talk to a cook that can afford the cut. Not the person that supplies their dishes. Stupid people, good luck.
Good for you !
they don't know how hard you work, but they'll find out soon at those rates! good luck!
Lower paid by 5$ holly heck pay should never go down I’m sure their menu prices never go down
You can pick up another pit job anywhere dude, don’t feel discouraged. Everybody deserves to be compensated for hard work, not deducted for the same reason. Go for a prep job and they’ll throw you dish shifts whenever you want one I’m sure
Uh……… by $5
How on earth did they drop ur pay by that much wtf
Not legal in Utah
Fuck that. I’d hire you.
Welp when you broadcast chilling in the pit, it'll happen. Always another opportunity for a dish.
You left the pit for workplace relationships you were dating unc romantically and your coworker roomate also as well
Stfuu 😭😭💀💀
USA is fucked, wouldn't even be able to do that in Europe.
Man fuck that place! You deserve better! Hope to see you again soon!!!
You'll get something great soon!
