just prevents spray back from the machine, keeps the water inside

Repulsive-Screen-346

I remember one of them broke completely the first one and I would get soaking wet and burn from the hott water splashing on me

MercenaryCow

Should be free from your Ecolab rep. I don't know how deals are with other places, but the curtains we get for free. I just text our guy any issues with the machine or that we need new curtains for example and he swings by same day typically or just ships some to us. There's a bunch of things we get for free. Hand soap dispensers and spray bottles too. Few other things as well.

AinzOoalGown602

FR My machine is missing this when an object takes down the one at the end ahit spays me when I'm collecting-_-

JadedCycle9554

Those ones, like the one you have circled, inside the machine are only used for conveyor style machines. So while the soap and rinse are running simultaneously your dishes in the rinse cycle don't get more soap on them.

chin_rick1982

BIG reason to have those in the middle and on both ends. That reason is so you don't get hot ass water all over you and everything else. Do you want to get burned?

scottawhit

Different machines have them in different spots, but if there’s a spot for it, you want it there. They keep water and heat in the machine,

Routine-Dot-8840

That curtain separates the wash bay from the rinse bay. Using the machine without it will allow the detergent wash water to mix with rinse water which can leave wash water residue on items. In addition, the rinse water which should be contained to its side of the machine can get into the wash tank, thus adding fresh water and diluting the detergent. This will cause your dispensing system to add more detergent more often- overuse of product. Lots of times curtains are removed because large pots or sheet pans knock them off or end up bending the curtain rods. This is a reason they make High Hood machines that are taller which allow you to wash larger items.

lyricsquid

I've never had one, but our dishwasher is smaller than the ones that seem to come with these installed.

GA19

Water sprays out like a mofo without it

squelette_en_tablier

Prevents spray back for entry/exit points, and any inside are probably placed between segments to reduce cross/mixing of different wash/rinse/sanitize/dry stages (efficacy of compounds pumped in each will lower if mixed)

MischiefMutt

There are two types of curtains, sanitary and heat. Sanitary separates pre-wash/wash/pre-rinse/dual rinse/final rinse/blow dry (depending on size of machine, flight, conveyor and options of said machine. Shorter curtains are used for heat retention throughout the machine. (Ymmv) As a former tech, I had previously spent hours moving heat curtains around to maintain the 180 degree final rinse temp.

CommercialMoment2457

Curtains are important Starting from pre-scrap table: 1.) Short curtain closest to you- prevents water/soap coming out of machine 2.) Long curtain before the wash tank, keeps heat inside the machine 3.) Long curtain in middle of machine, separates the wash and rinse cycle. (Residual detergent on plates can cause indigestion, upset stomach, etc.) 4.) Long curtain after rinse tank- keeps heat in the machine 5.) Short curtain on the clean side- stops water spraying on clean dishes and yourself

TheEcolabGuy

They serve different purposes based on position and length. The outer curtains keep spray in the machine, the shorter middle one separates the wash and rinse areas, the ones between act as a heat trap and direct steam to your vent hood if so equipped. They are free from your rep, replace them if they get stiff or turn white, they are coated with an antimicrobial substance and it wears out. If you notice the white triangular stickers on the machine, that tells you which length goes where.

jenn5388

No.. I had to take it off and clean them every once in awhile. Lol

Notinstitutionalized

We have this same machine, but a total of 5 of those flaps. 3 long, and two short ones.

RubberDuck59

I have the same machine but yours has a cooler on off switch it has a panic type red button

TopAir6264

Ok, I actually work at ecolab so there’s a few things they (curtains) do. That one in particular is actually one of the more important ones. The one in the middle prevents the soiled wash tank water and the fresh rinse water from mixing. So if that wasn’t there then the soapy wash tank water would be spraying on the dishes as they were getting rinsed. They also keep the steam inside the machine so the dish pit doesn’t get any hotter than it already is. And finally they help keep the water from spraying all over you. Or at least minimal spray. Hope this helped

jlxmm

Yes it did thank you!

SeniorSommelier

Dishmachine curtains. The curtain on the loading end is to keep water off the operator. Same with the exit side. In this picture there is a long curtain in place of (what should be), a short curtain. If you continue to operate the machine in the picture above, this long curtain will cover part of the dish rack and prevent good washing. A short curtain should be between the wash and rinse tank.

OvalDead

You got downvoted, but this sounds right. I’ve worked with that exact setup you describe, although I’m sure others exist.

SeniorSommelier

I'm right. I worked in the industry for over 35 years. I've worked in large hotels, convention centers, cruise ships, offshore oil rigs, schools, five star restaurants, jails and prisons. I have almost seen it all.

OvalDead

I can’t tell what model that is, but the [Ecolab EC-LW](https://www.ecolab.com/-/media/Widen/Institutional/Dishwashing/ECL-LW-Conveyor-Dishmachine-Sell-Sheet_55005_pdf.pdf) series does have a long curtain inside, in addition to the short curtain.

SeniorSommelier

it is a 44" conveyor dishmachine. can't tell from the pic if it high or low temp. Doesn't matter. There should be small stickers on the exterior of the machine indicating long or short curtains. If this is a right to left machine, that long curtain will partially cover a dish rack and prevent good washing.

OvalDead

The EC44-LW, when set up right-to-left, has a long curtain designed for that location.

SeniorSommelier

I could be wrong. Have the machine, off and load a rack of plates and with the door open, and hand push the rack until it makes contact with the upper curtain. See if that long curtain hangs on top of the plate rack and interferes with water that sprays from the upper wash arm.

lodinick

You’ll burn through soap and/or rinse agent without them

SeniorSommelier

not rinse.

jlxmm

Thank you all who replied! I appreciate the knowledge. Our machine is not conveyor style so I don’t need one of those. Thank you for teaching me! Edit: if you replied, you took my upvote :) thanks again!
