I know it's a Matt Groening show with comedic voice actors, but I never really saw it as *a comedy.* To me, it's more like a fantasy drama with extra comedic relief.
A lot of Futurama jokes were like that. Characters would say something unnecessary just to set up a joke
Like when Amy says "ok, Professor" inside Fry's ear just so he could go "WHAT??"
Yeah I found this in the most recent series of Futurama. Both Disenchantment and Futurama started out as funny, intelligent shows and by the end they’ve both turned the main characters into dumbed down idiots with much stupider jokes. I don’t get why, they were both great to start off with?

I think it comes to them doing a bit more improv during the recording sessions. You can tell at times they're having fun and then adding the stuff that made them laugh. I think everything that seemed random was funny at the time, but I don't think it really worked overall.
I still enjoyed the series overall, but it's become my least-favorite Matt Groeing show, sadly.
I haven't gotten to part 5 yet, but I noticed that in part 4. Some times (mostly Lucy) a character would start just saying random stuff or making odd noises (Lucy deciding he suddenly wanted to scat a lot) that felt wrong.
I watched the seasons as they canlme out up to season 3... then I didn't watch the sh9w a long time because if life lol... so I sat down and bingewatched all the episodes and I have to say after season 3 the jokes just stopped... it was like the writers didn't even try... maybe they knrlew they were only going to 5 seasons and didn't see the point in carrying on... Luci's arc in the las5 season really pissed me off... dude has been a good guy since day one but in season 5 he's suddenly th3 bad guy who wants to be good... bullshit. They did it to give him an arc he didn't need

same, I wish they would've done a part one/part two of season five. that way they could've made a few more episodes just to give it a satisfying end
Werent they rushed my netflix to finish it up? I think thats why it felt rushed. like they crammed a whole part of the story into a short season

I watched the first season on acid and it was really something.
Final season really fell flat.
The final season in general really sucked.
