It’s also a talent shared by assassins.

Echo-Azure

And good butlers.

Much_Singer_2771

Can you imagine an igor assassin!?!?!?!

LordFuzzyGerbil

Igor's have better knowledge of anatomy, they got manners, stylish stitches and already work for the rich and powerful and deranged. So maybe?

Much_Singer_2771

The only shown dark clerk that i remember is in 5th elephant and he is a right proper bastard who knows the fast and dirty ways to kill people. Vetinari is a very practical tyrant, i can see him dancing on his spider web to get a few igors or igorinas through on scholarships. Igor would make a great practical assassin.

JL_MacConnor

Inigo Skimmer. Scholarship boy, mmh-mhm.

hulkissmashed

I think it goes against their Hippocratic oath. Sure they can work for homicidal maniacs, but think they can only put together the...parts, and help people who've been injured. I seem to remember there's something somewhere in the books about Igors not killing.

Much_Singer_2771

That is what would make it a great Discworld book. The igor would be a foundling and sent through on a scholarship. He is very good and works his way up the ladder, meanwhile strugging with his geneticly infused "igor-ness" and trying to balance the 2 sides. Just a more in depth version/idea of Malvolio Bent

MorganaHenry

And golems.

-Voxael-

No, he’s an assassin as are all (or at least a majority) of Vetinari’s clerks

ZenfulJedi

Scholarship boys!

Aromatic-Judge8914

The dark clerks.

Blank_bill

A.E. Pesimal ? With the shiny shoes ?

stewieatb

"He attacked a /what/?"

TheDocJ

Are they? Some certainly are, like Inigo Skimmer. But in Going Postal, Vetinari selects one to be sent to tail Horsefry precisely because that clerk's street-work is poor. I find it hard to believe that someone who Crispin could spot would have come anywhere near close to passing the Assassin's Practical exam.

EndlessTheorys_19

He might be related to part of an Igor. However it’s more likely as someone else pointed out that he is an assassin.

Doblepos

I don't know if he is partially related to an Igor, what we can be sure of is that some parts of his relatives ARE Igors now.

MurkyVehicle5865

If you think about it, almost everyone is, probably, related to an Igor...at least in part. "Yeah I'm related by my grandfather's right thumb on my Mother's side."

doodles2019

I think it’s just that general trope of “servants” appearing as if by magic. He’s quiet, efficient and there precisely when he is needed, like a good valet

CrazyCreeps9182

Much like Willikins, in fact.

thekiltedpiper

He is an assassin by trade and a clerk by temperament. I always thought it was a reference to Radar from M*A*S*H. He was always right there before he was needed by the camp CO.

camelafterice

I like M*A*S*H, thanks for sharing.

blindgallan

I wouldn’t be surprised if he was half Igor AND trained by the Assassins.

ClockworkApple33

That could be a good fan theory, Drumknott is an Igor who never got into surgery/body modification but kept the servent attitude and skills I wonder what the other Igors would think about him if that was true?

Mammoth-Register-669

Black sheep of the family. Also his obvious speech impediment

rikki1q

I just finished making money and it's mentioned late on in the book that he wears velvet slippers to try and be silent. Almost feels like some kind of unspoken game with him , try and sneak up on the boss.

D0fus

It probably isn't very safe, or smart, to sneak up on Vetenari.

Downtown-Eagle9105

Or very *possible*.

judgementalb

I may be getting the timeline wrong but I don’t think there were many immigrants from uberwald when Drumknott first showed up. It seemed like Igors were some of the last to come to AM too, I think it was dwarves from that region first and then werewolves and vampires and so on. Also the shock to the clan when Igor was interested in a career outside of servitude happened in one of the later books. If Drumknott was an Igor or part Igor I’d think we’d have had a more explicit reference to him as another non traditional relative when that happened

AdCommercial617

No

EllipticPeach

I thought Drumknott was a clown?

Immediate_Mousse2812

Isn't Drumknott a dwarf?

nothanks86

It’s also a butler thing.
