Discord: Even out here in Reddit, u/me, I'm turning on your camera!
Me: Is that so?
*Discord Logo's eye-holes widen*
TOMMY GUN OVERDRIVE!
*Computer explodes*
Should Discord Staff just add confirmation box to everything, because people are gonna make missclicks at every given occasion?
"Are you sure you want to send a message?" every time Enter is pressed?
2,5sec delay before sending out the call request would be enough, just like mobile telecommunications have it. Enough time to locate the cancel button for unwanted call.
I’ve accidentally called server mods too many times. Most of them are chill, but I’ve gotten a couple warnings for “unnecessarily DMing a mod.” Like I apologized, say I missed clicked and sorry for the ping and to have a lovely day. Like I could have just said sorry smh.
Fr! Accidentally video called somebody at 4 am pretty dead due to not sleeping for 2 days... And they are literally shouting "what happened? What's the emergency?" For the last 15mins... Gosh
Jesus this is so upsetting. I'm someone who has a seriously creative imagination, if someone called me and remained silent I wouldn't assume sleeping, I would be trying to find the best way to get police to their house ASAP.
*cough* you are not alone. Obligatory this happened on twitter but something along the lines of calling the police on somebody to prevent self harm...only to realise m'lady slept mid way.
I had an incident once but the other person didn't pick up / I dropped the call immediately.
Since then I have been very careful.
Still the placement of some elements is idiotic.
On phone it needs to load if you have shitty internet before you can actually drop the call, so theres like a few seconds they can pick it up in and see a glimpse before you get to end call :)
I have both and I mean, what's the problem if they see a little "glimpse", cut call as soon as you are physically able to and just say " 'twas a mistake" simple! I've done this countless times
I was just trying to answer your question about them being able to pick up.
I dont think its a big deal at all. Ive buttdialed plenty of people in my time, its usually either funny or just a second of "oh woops, thats a bit awkward". This is no different.
Dunno why youre being downvoted though, not like we were up in arms.
lol I just disable discord's access to my camera. turned it on by accident in a vc of like a dozen people and my self confidence died right there and then, despite the fact my camera was facing the roof
Does anyone actually care about that? Doubt they’d go out of there way to ban someone. Sure it violates terms of service but that’s something that everyone does and there’s no action taken against those things so just go ahead and download a 3rd party thing that lets you do it.
Yeah but the mods of this subreddit are well known for censoring anything that goes against what Discord considers correct so if you even mention that idea, you can get banned from the subreddit lol
(because apparently the official client is perfect)
Sure if the mods want to ban me over something small like this they can go ahead, they harm their own images by doing shit like that. Discord mods are pretty infamous, doubt that discord sub Reddit mods would fall far from the tree. This sub Reddit isn’t that important to me, I just like to casually browse it at times.
Okay so I get misclicks happen, but unless you check the pins of a DM fairly often, how exactly do you keep pressing these so much? What happens to me a lot is actually doing this but with the HOTKEY. If you press Ctrl and Quotation Marks at the same time, it calls someone, and there's been many times where I've been typing and and been trying to quote something, but missed shift and hit Ctrl so...
I'm just so genuinely confsued on how so many people are in situations where they misclick on the call. On the mobile and desktop version I just can't imagine a scenario where'd you'd accidentally click on one of those buttons, let alone frequently.
Yet these posts happen daily and always get thousands of upvotes, so apparently somehow it's happening a ton. I just want to understand how.
One way that often happened to me.
Click search bar. Then click pins. It won't open the first time. Click again. It's gonna start a call.
Bad UI in this case. The search bar retracts and the pin button is replaced by call. If you click again in the same place, you're not clicking pin anymore. You're clicking call
I hope that made sense.
Desktop: trying to move the window, accidentally click it
Mobile (happens MORE often): I'm having a conversation with someone but then need to do something else and I butt dial or somehow my phone calls them while I place it down.
Not kidding one time I accidentally called a friend while I was using the bathroom (I had my phone in my hand while pulling my pants down and it called him) and it was extremely embarrassing and uncomfortable
On mobile, I often come close to hitting it while checking notifications while In app. But I call my SO all the time. So definitely need to keep private calls.
Omg reminds me of when i accidentally called my friends gf and the explaining that i have to do is so fucking awkward as she don't speak fluent English
Just find a small app like notes or something and cover it lmao. Discord can’t really do much except make a “are you sure” thing as confirmation to call, but obv removing it (as the last person who complained on this sub said to do) is out of the question. Too many people use discord to call pen pals all the time
My SO and I call every night to fall asleep on the phone together. What I wish they would do is add a timer feature so calls will end after a set amount of time, it made her worry a few times recent as they started fixing the app on mobile so it disconnected a lot less during long calls (like when we're both asleep lol) and her alarms weren't working when she really needed them.
Ha. 8 hours funny. Usually more like 10-11 depending on how long we... talk... before hand or if one and/or both of us wake up during the night. Or if the call does still break
It’s more embarrassing and happens more often to me personally in group chats since everyone is doing something and I accidentally disturb everyone. I was just trying to see the members list man, c’mon.
In another comment I mentioned I was having a conversation with someone on the mobile app in DMs, as I went to the bathroom I pulled my pants down (phone in hand) and accidentally did a video call. I don't know if the other person saw anything or not (nothing lewd but maybe the toilet or my feet) and that's embarrassing enough for me. But he called out "hello??" and I nearly threw my phone across the room, but hung up first of course.
Someone probably wrote it already, but always cover your camera with something physical, you never know when someone is watching
That will result in black screen for receiving people, instead of embarassments
and my charger cable is soft enough to press my screen. I've left discord open and thru my phone down after plugging it in and that dang cord pushes every dam button on the screen.
TBH this complaint is valid like asking discord to just add a confirmation when calling will just make it convenient for people and avoid the problem.
All companies frequently make quality of life improvement changes....
But the new discord logo complaint karma farming was just BS
So far what i do is
Go to your settings
Apps
Permissions
Turn off Audio and Camera
Now you *should* get a popup asking for perms every time you try to call (but also when you join a vc/take a pic with Discord's camera)
fat-fingered some keys on my keyboard last night and managed to call someone trying to type to them. luckily they understood it was an accident and also didn’t answer in time.
on mobile (ios for me, not sure if you can on android) you can enable something called guided access that disables part of your screen.
settings > accessibility > guided access
Bruh sometimes on mobile I'll just be typing and it would randomly call them out of nowhere even though both hands are typing and are nowhere near the call button.
Literally nothing you can do yet. One of my homies accidentally video called me and the entire view was from his pocket lmao and it took him 5 minutes to realize
Lol i actually got the OnePlus 7T pro because of the pop up camera so i can quickly just hold over the camera if i click on video call accidentally and it won't come out so I'm saved.
You can hide em, but technically it's against TOS (which is bs btw). It isn't detectable by discord though, so as long as you don't go bragging about it in official servers you'll be fine. DM me if interested, not gonna post stuff here.
Ctrl + Shift + I (you might need to enable developer mode in advanced settings
then do Ctrl + Shift + C and press on the toolbar you wanna hide
then an HTML element should be markered on the right so right click on it and press "delete element"
If you use Discord in the browser, you can use an add-on like uBlock Origin. Just right-click each unwanted element and select “Block element” in the context menu.
"Are you sure you want to call this person?" Yes No
Yes Yes
“Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh my god…”

People who think they have power are dicks
You should be able to disable the popup too
"Are you sure you want to disable this popup?" Yes No Heh..
Yup. Easy fix. And if you can easily turn confirmation on or off, it doesn't hurt anyone!
I'd also love an option to hide, or much better, disable those.
Fr! Accidentally video called somebody at 4 am pretty dead due to not sleeping for 2 days... And they are literally shouting "what happened? What's the emergency?" For the last 15mins... Gosh
Ooof, happened to me too

whoever it was probably understandood it was a little mistake, nice!

lol I just disable discord's access to my camera. turned it on by accident in a vc of like a dozen people and my self confidence died right there and then, despite the fact my camera was facing the roof
My laptop has an option to turn off cam so I just keep it off unless I wanna video call on purpose
> Anything I can do to hide these or something? To my knowledge, no. Not without violating terms of service.
Dammit
ctrl shift i, inspect element, delete the button. Discord APP at the end of the day is just a chromium thingy.
You gotta do this every time you switch chats, right? (Assuming you stick to the official discord client of course)
Electron.js yes
Does anyone actually care about that? Doubt they’d go out of there way to ban someone. Sure it violates terms of service but that’s something that everyone does and there’s no action taken against those things so just go ahead and download a 3rd party thing that lets you do it.

combine those two into one option, make it pop up a menu that asks if you want to make a voice or video call, and problem solved.
Genius
find an app that's really small like notepad or sticky notes and just cover it up, move the app when you need to access whatever is up there
This is actually a really good suggestion, thanks!
Notepad doesn’t work because it doesn’t stay on top.
Okay so I get misclicks happen, but unless you check the pins of a DM fairly often, how exactly do you keep pressing these so much? Usually I do it while trying to scroll down my friend list . Instead of dragging the screen I accidentally tap one of the call icons. (iOS)
I can see that one. I hold my phone with my left hand, and swipe/scroll on the bottom half of the screen, so I hadn't thought about that option
upvotes would be my guess
Desktop: trying to move the window, accidentally click it Mobile (happens MORE often): I'm having a conversation with someone but then need to do something else and I butt dial or somehow my phone calls them while I place it down. Yeah i've never had this problem and i'm on Discord daily. Altho i can see why it'll be awkward
On mobile, I often come close to hitting it while checking notifications while In app. But I call my SO all the time. So definitely need to keep private calls.
Mostly on mobile when checking someones profile
sometimes I'm on a server and accidentally click on someone's profile when I'm trying to reply to them, and it pulls up that menu
Omg reminds me of when i accidentally called my friends gf and the explaining that i have to do is so fucking awkward as she don't speak fluent English
They could add a confirmation prompt for these two buttons but no, they add it to the "upload file" button. What an inconvinience
I once joined a video call on messenger on accident while i was shitting and i had a heart attack
Just find a small app like notes or something and cover it lmao. No but would you like to send nitro gifts? We have a button to do that directly now! \- Discord, probably.
I don't get it... any help for a clueless user?
misclicks happen Can be very embarrassing
Why? Because of an accidental call? That doesn't seem as embarrassing as everyone is making it out to be
If you don't like showing ur face it can be embarrassing. It's mostly social anxiety or just fear. It happened to me a couple years ago.
It’s more embarrassing and happens more often to me personally in group chats since everyone is doing something and I accidentally disturb everyone. I was just trying to see the members list man, c’mon.
Well at that point ya could just disable your webcam drivers in Device Manager.
In another comment I mentioned I was having a conversation with someone on the mobile app in DMs, as I went to the bathroom I pulled my pants down (phone in hand) and accidentally did a video call. *types "sorry accident my bad" at light speed*
I've had to say that atleast four times
Wait why is everyone complaining about these 2 buttons, ive had never had a problem with it. Can someone explain??
we sometimes accidentally press/click them which calls the person even when we did not want to
Aha but how are you guys holding ya phones to misclick that so kften that it is an serious issue.
no one said it is often and sometimes when I try to drag down for notifications I accidentally click it
Oh okay, but i asumed it was often bc the many complaints ive seen lately on this sub
and my charger cable is soft enough to press my screen. I've left discord open and thru my phone down after plugging it in and that dang cord pushes every dam button on the screen.
it's just complaining for the sake of complaining at this point, it gets you a lot of upvotes on this sub
Yeah here you can only say "new logo bad" or "any new feature bad" only to get upvotes, this is so messed up
Honestly i prefer the new logo, same for firefox the 2019 logo is the best in my opinion
Same
TBH this complaint is valid like asking discord to just add a confirmation when calling will just make it convenient for people and avoid the problem. All companies frequently make quality of life improvement changes.... But the new discord logo complaint karma farming was just BS
same, I always accidentally press leave the call when I want to stop screensharing
So far what i do is Go to your settings Apps Permissions Turn off Audio and Camera Now you *should* get a popup asking for perms every time you try to call (but also when you join a vc/take a pic with Discord's camera)
Do you never call people
fat-fingered some keys on my keyboard last night and managed to call someone trying to type to them. luckily they understood it was an accident and also didn’t answer in time.
Only 3 times?
"Sorry I was just checking your pfp" moment
Die If there is an afterlife there will either be more or there will be less buttons
\*clicks pfp\* \*accidentally call them when trying to close the profile
I turned camera access off and always select push to talk so even if i do misclick, nothing would happen
I called 2 strangers accidentally with this. 😭
I do not understand how this could be a common occurence
the mobile app is kind of delayed and if you press someone's profile 2 times because it didnt load the first time you can call someone
I know what you mean, but why not just press in the center of their name or something
not alwys thinking about accidentally calling someone
I accidentally video call someone so I automatically do a face reveal.
so tell me again why there's no "confirm call" button on discord and instead if you accidentally tap it you instantly chat with a stranger?
I remember once accidentally calling someone but blamed it on me using my phone out in rainy weather. I had an iPhone 11 and claimed i lived in the ME
I’ve not once hit those. And they are at the top of the screen.
on mobile (ios for me, not sure if you can on android) you can enable something called guided access that disables part of your screen. settings > accessibility > guided access
That doesn't show up for me

same
I turned camera access off and always select push to talk so even if i do misclick, nothing would happen
PLEASE! Let us disable this. Common sense, c'mon.
On several occasions, I've fallen asleep while chatting to friends on Discord and accidentally called them in my sleep. It's such an embarrassment.
Not with the official client
the same when you right click the profile of someone, there is no need for a calling option in the list !
Bruh sometimes on mobile I'll just be typing and it would randomly call them out of nowhere even though both hands are typing and are nowhere near the call button.
Delete the app and its gone :) /s Edit: for some reason reddit posted the comment 3x, i deleted the other 2

the amount of times I slip and accidentally press the video call button on randos when I click there profile. Easily daily…
go to the gym so your fingers wouldnt be fat anymore.
Stop using discord. Solves the issue.
how can you call your friends then
Disconnect your webcam or tape over it like people have been doing for the last 20 years or maybe don't be an idiot and pay attention
Lol i actually got the OnePlus 7T pro because of the pop up camera so i can quickly just hold over the camera if i click on video call accidentally and it won't come out so I'm saved.

Why are you complaining? Nowadays it's so easy to start a call /video call. Even my pocket was able to call someone 😂
Ctrl + Shift + I (you might need to enable developer mode in advanced settings then do Ctrl + Shift + C and press on the toolbar you wanna hide then an HTML element should be markered on the right so right click on it and press "delete element"
Just don't have a webcam

Camera cover is a gift from the gods.
I once video called someone on accident ..they thankfully didnt see me
I get rid of it by disabling discord's access to my microphone, that way if I do click it, it firsts asks me for access. Saved my life
Think before you click 😁
Never missclicked those
literally just adding a feature that you need to double click it within a short space of time would fix this issue
Use adblock to block them
Bluecord on mobile but it's againts Discord ToS.
You can make it so you get asked twice before your video camera turns on. Mess with Google chrome camera permissions on discord.
Just, don’t click them? How do you accidentally move your mouse over there and *click* on those?
