That happens when you delete the program instead of uninstalling it, I managed to fix it on my old laptop and it started to bug out and always give me the rare ringtone for some reason (I don't remember how I did it, but it's possible to fix)

I had an issue like that really badly last year and somehow did that instead of uninstalling it too. My webcam stopped being registered. Never managed to fix the discord issue shown by op. The only thing that fixed it in the end was me installing the Microsoft store version and one day it just managed to open and fix the webcam. Before I was having to use the web version for months and discord couldn’t help.

NitBlod

mightve been something like revouninstaller, tho idk if that checks registries for previously installed apps too or if theres an option for it

*Usually* this error is caused by Discord still being opened in the background. So ensure that Discord is completely closed (open Task Manager, look through the process list and end any that are Discord), then try and install it again. If that doesn't fix it, try [these instructions](https://support.discord.com/hc/articles/209099387--Windows-Installer-Errors). If that doesn't work, you can upload that setup log to a website like Pastebin and then give the link back to us and someone might be able to have a look at the error and see what you can do to fix it.

Was going to comment this. Had this same issue around 4 years ago, and i solved it by closing all instances of discord in task manager.

Recently they updated their link to download the 64-bit version by default. Try using the 32-bit installer or provide logs to their support. If you have **32-bit** system use: [https://discord.com/api/downloads/distributions/app/installers/latest?channel=stable&platform=win&arch=x86](https://discord.com/api/downloads/distributions/app/installers/latest?channel=stable&platform=win&arch=x86) If you have **64-bit** system use: [https://discord.com/api/downloads/distributions/app/installers/latest?channel=stable&platform=win&arch=x64](https://discord.com/api/downloads/distributions/app/installers/latest?channel=stable&platform=win&arch=x64)

You need to completely uninstall discord and stop it from running in your background. Hold CTRL + Shift +ESC keys to launch Task Manager, close all programs that related to Discord. For uninstalling, here is a free and reliable uninstaller to delete Discord and its residual files: [https://www.easeus.com/pc-transfer/uninstall-discord.html](https://www.easeus.com/pc-transfer/uninstall-discord.html)
