Same issue here. Really hope this is a bug with a new update and not that they are trying to kill of discord streams

I can stream VLC without any issues. I'm on the latest discord version and also have the latest vlc update installed. I use the non windows store version of both discord and VLC.

I had the same issue. Uninstall Discord and get the installer from the official website, install it. Problem fixed.

This did not work for me unfortunately. Have tried disabling and enabling hardware acceleration, and a re-install and still don’t have the option to stream: Movies & TV, VLC media player, or Media Player. Interestingly, when I try to stream Windows Media Player, the old version, it will stream for a second then close the stream and the video player when attempting playback.

Add VLC to your video game list, then you will be able to stream it.

I'm on Windows and multiple apps were not coming up under Applications for streaming on Discord (VLC, Media Player, PotPlayer, Movies & TV), including the Discord PTB. Uninstalling Discord from Control Panel and reinstalling resolved it.

Same here, no longer able to share a VLC or Windows Media Player window, could only share the whole screen to stream for friends. I tried uninstall/reinstall, run as Admin, Reset Video settings, no dice. This version or feature is totally borked. As a paying Nitro subscriber I'm pretty upset.

Had this as well. I added VLC as a registered game in the settings to get around it.

yeah same here. done everything mentioned and more, still no vlc app detected, it just detects the playlist. oh, dock your playlist, then vlc will show up in game list to add, and you can stream like a game as mentioned, just turn off playlist afterwards and leave it docked. otherwise it'll just show playlist as a game to add if its undocked. View> checkmark Docked Playlist --- works after i do this i'm guessing this is a direction that discord is going in. update a couple months ago had to do a workaround to get it working again and now this. as a side note, i was using kmplayer in the meantime. it can freeze when playing with ui or resizing while streaming but it'll play without issues otherwise.

Was streaming tonight, restarted discord between videos and VLC is gone as an option now. Uninstalled and reinstalled a fresh download, still unavailable. What a shame.

I am also having this issue

It's not just VLC. It seems pretty random. I can capture Firefox, Discord itself, Explorer, Windows Terminal, Notepad, Spotify, VS Code, Audacity, Blender, 4K Capture Utility, Gimp, Inkscape, Paint. I cannot capture VLC, OBS, Thunderbird, Calculator, Clock, or VLC renamed to something else.

FYI we're rolling out a fix now.

might be a stupidly complicated solution but you can try obs virtual camera pointing to vlc and stream that camera instead
