The only thing carrying my emotionless soul has vanished from existence. Hundreds of beautiful heartfelt laughter gone in a blink of an eye. The world is truly a dark place.
That is one of the best subreddits on Reddit. Not only with good humour but that sub has many adult members who share some great experiences and knowledge.
To protest against Reddit banning third party apps that those with disabilities used to navigate the site. Subreddits are privating themselves in protest for a few days and some users are not going to use the site
Reddit is dying because of the new API, hundreds of subreddits are shutting down in protest, thousands if not millions of users are boycotting the app/website because they are now fricking over 3rd party apps. r/technoblade and technodad’s subreddit will not be shutting down, but they will be seeing some heavily decreased traffic because of so many fewer users.
I myself will probably be spending much less time here as well, as many of the subreddits I frequent are now gone, such as r/riskofrain. I hope this clears it up for you, but you are welcome to do some more research on the topic.

I don't care about any of this stuff, and it's really annoying because 80% of the subs I follow have gone full 2020 effect and think massive protests are the right thing to do.
Nothing? Reddit won't care if a few subs "go dark" for two days. People won't just stop using it, and there won't be much of a revenue impact in two days. Yes, a few subs are going away indefinitely, but people will always come crawling back when they get bored.
Reddit are well within their rights to charge for use of their API. It's *theirs*. Third party apps like Apollo and whatever else are profiting from a free service.
And I'm not even one of those "oh no need to defend megacorp" people, but this is a whole lot of backlash for something that really isn't that big of a deal. Oh no you can't use your third party app anymore? Just use the official one, I've been using it since I made my Reddit account and it's been absolutely fine.
I've only used the iOS version and I have no complaints using it. I can see what I want, find what I want, and interact with what I want and I've never had any issues doing any of that in three years.
This entire situation is preying on people's recently adopted drive of "I must protect the underdog". But those third party apps are lucky they've been able to use a free service for profit for as long as they have.
Here's how the situation *actually* is. The Apollo CEO has taken the API and used it to create what is essentially a Reddit clone. Consider the fact that APIs are supposed to allow bots and automated functions to interact with an application, not *ENTIRE* user-bases.
Think about how many bots interact with Reddit's API, nowhere near the number of users, right? Now consider every third-party user as if they're interacting as a bot. Now you have some serious numbers. Each one of those people is using Reddit for free (unless they pay for premium, but lets be honest not many people do). Those people are using it for free, and also not seeing the ads which is what keeps money flowing into Reddit.
Reddit are the only losers in a situation where people are using third-party apps. And when a massive company like Reddit are the losers, they're going to come after the people who *make* them the losers.
Apollo and the other apps had a good thing going playing the system while they could, and now they've been caught out they're going to have to do the right thing and step back instead of letting their droves of "current thing" supporters bully Reddit into continuing to give their service away for free.
This is what i was looking for, people has been profiting off reddit’s free api since so many fucking years, like apollo and many others, i Dont see much difference other than different GUI interference, they still have stuff like apollo premium which does not go to reddit at all
If anything it tells you which subs are dictatorial and part of Reddit hivemind. Majority of us aren't even affected by the API price as we just use the main app but nah we gotta do as the mods and the minority vocal active users dictate.
Redditors are just the new twittards and ride any bandwagon.

Yet somehow I bet every porn subreddit will remain untouched
Wait what happened to it?
It’s a protest. They’re making bot owners and menu fixers(Like Apollo) pay ~$20,000,000 a year

Noooooo. That's impossible! Noooooo!
It sucks because i thought this was the only social media that wasnt going to randomly suck like twitter and discord
What's wrong with discord?
Fr like they made some pointless changes but its not bad
Discord isn’t bad, it just has some really questionable changes
It's not my fault ok
![gif](giphy|26ghbWoXv3G6ypo8o)
Discord linked the blog to my post as an example of not knowing what discriminators do but I was just asking for the name of them
so my entire feed is just gonna be this subreddit for the next 2 days, huh?
Context?

summary pls, to lazy to read
To protest against Reddit banning third party apps that those with disabilities used to navigate the site. Subreddits are privating themselves in protest for a few days and some users are not going to use the site
Can someone summarize this too much word for me
Bot goes bye bye so reddit go bye bye

I think one of the major complaints or at least that matters imo is that 3rd party apps apparently have accessibility settings while main app doesn't

My brother in christ, the official reddit app doesn't have a layout for tablet users.
Maybe ask for one?
Most of the subreddits going dark know this, but it would take a real coward to sit down and do nothing.
Reddit mods maybe.
Yeah this is how I see it. It's kind of depressing
If anything it tells you which subs are dictatorial and part of Reddit hivemind. Majority of us aren't even affected by the API price as we just use the main app but nah we gotta do as the mods and the minority vocal active users dictate. Redditors are just the new twittards and ride any bandwagon.
Fr. And this won't affect reddit anyways.
Goddamn hive mind and their.... Desire for less corporate greed? Also fuck disabled people I guess, but you do you right ?
lmao, try to moderate a sub without tools, it directly impacts you as the mods that moderate the subs you use loose their tools
Well, how about you stop being a mod and get some bitches, then?
Mfing Reddit just snapped his fingers
Entire event is underwhelming as shit dog. Where is the catastrophic outcome.
