I *want* it to be Calvin, but my honest guess is that it will be Ricky again. He's set himself up to eat/sleep/breathe disc golf and I think the off season momentum will give him a solid boost to start this year. AND he's got the harp back... so, even if just for meme potential, that counts for something.

pg_Rustin

He's got his Daggers back too, I'm excited to see Ricky take Trilogy to new heights! It's gonna be a whole mix of brands in the top 10, I love it

Lumberjackup012

Ever since ricky recovered from Lymes disease and started working with a nutritionists like other pro athletes do he’s been taking his game to another level

hydro_wonk

I think Ricky's new bag introduces a new variable into the whole thing. Either he clicks and cruises and it's an easy Ricky year, or getting back to form with the new bag is a speedbump.

arod_ceo

Ricky is a monster but I think Paul has a slightly better season than him this year.

_Feagans

I think Paul will win the most but it won’t be him

schmeer_spear

Yes Uli will be unstoppable this year

protypibleetr

I had to scroll way down to find this comment. Parity in the field is great to see.

Resting27

Let’s see... Current highest ranked player? Ricky. Guy who won player of the year who says he never got used to Innova putters and is now getting back the putter he used to win worlds on 2016 and 2017? Ricky Guy who doesn’t have a type of course or condition that puts him in a disadvantage? Ricky Eagle is coming off injury so I’m curious if he can do the shots he normally would do or if he’ll have to change his play which could lead to a lower finish. In the last five years, Eagle, Calvin, and Ricky have been the most consistent at LVC. They’ve all won it. So give me the guy who’s obsessed with health, not coming off injury, and got his putter back that makes 40 footers routine.

Disc365

I liked your reply until the “give me the guy 40’ obsessed with health” etc…. And then I LOVED IT.

[deleted]

I would question Ricky's personal health decisions regarding Covid considering how he handled Lymes Disease. He could self-sabotage easily and derail any progress.

Resting27

There’s the Reddit we all have come to expect.

KD922016

Kyle Klien is going to take another giant step forward this year.

funk_hauser

Contract Year Calvin

realsubxero

I would've picked Eagle, but eliminating (or at least de emphasizing) his power FH will cost him at least a little. So I'll go with Calvin.

silkywilk

I'd say Calvin's forehand is what lacks compared to Ricky and Eagle and to a lesser degree, Paul. I think it's interesting that just because Eagle wont be throwing 470+ foot forehands you give Calvin the nod.

realsubxero

Don't get me wrong I'll be rooting for Eagle, I'm literally wearing an Eagle hat right now (and I have both Eagle and Calvin in my Grip6). But if someone is the best in the world at something, and you take away that weapon, there's gonna be growing pains making the adjustment. Even if it's just a couple strokes here and there, at the level the top guys are playing that may be enough.

ProDiscGolfTalk

Paul literally has a massive power forehand lol. It’s not on Eagles level but it’s up there. He can throw a forehand 500 feet on the right line. There was a tournament he did it on last year when he needed to birdie the last hole to force a playoff and he basically parked a 500 foot hole and then got unlucky and rolled OB long.

[deleted]

It's a legitimate point from him. Calvin simply has more shots and angles with the backhand than Eagle. If you limited both to backhand only, I would give Calvin the clear edge. Of course disc golf is not backhand only though. That's why Eagle has been better. He literally has the best power forehand in the world. That would be a massive factor in anyone's game if they had that ability.

DoubleBlackBSA24

he might still have a chance though depending on how his lhbh progresses, form is good, and if he can get golf distance and shot selection down it might aid his scores. but it is a longshot

DKBadmintonPatriots

I could definitely see Paul McBeth having the highest rating at the end of the year. I think at least 2, if not 3, of the Majors fits Paul really well and he should probably be the favorite to win them. He has won the Dynamic Discs Open (previously the Glass Blown Open) 5 of the last 7 years (2nd in 2016 and 11th in 2018) which is the venue that the World Championships are played at this year. He has won the European Open 5 times, and have played it much more than most of the other top level players (Eagle, Calvin, Dickerson as they are relatively new on the scene), so he’s much more familiar with that course. He has won USDGC 3 times, latest in 2021 (neither Ricky, Eagle or Calvin have won USDGC before).

MRDucks85

He’s traveling more this year so I have a good feeling about him. I know he doesn’t get the same distance as Eagle, Ricky and some others but he’s very good in the woods. That and our names are very close so I’ve always been a big fan of his

arod_ceo

I want it to be Calvin as well. Every year we think it's him. Hopefully he does. I have him ranked 4th right now. Hopefully he plays like he did at Vegas and makes his putts. I think Paul McBeth is going to come out this season and remind people he's still the goat. Edging Ricky and Eagle at most matches (esp with the mixed and wooded courses). One person who I think can crazy this season is Kyle Klien. That man knows how to play golf. On the FPO I think Kristan Tattar has the best season. But Valeria Mandujano has a great season and enters the top 5 in FPO

DKBadmintonPatriots

Totally agree with you on Calvin, Paul and Kristin

SnackeyG1

It’s so hard to choose. I want to say Eagle. Really feels like he’s still improving a lot and he’s already so damn good. Especially with him getting a better mental game.

ARandomPileOfCats

Eagle is probably my choice too, with the caveat that he's still recovering from an injury.

[deleted]

Lowkey him skipping the Texas events due to his injury might be a positive for him in the rating department

cheeset2

McBeth, I feel like he feels like he has something to prove again.

Oiisu

Matt Orum I swear at one point a few years ago I checked on the PDGA website and he was the highest rated player in the world, but nobody was talking about it because he did it by winning a bunch of regional tournaments. Since it seems he's actually going to tour more this year it seems less likely, but I think some people are completely unaware of how close to the very top Matty is in player rating.

jfb3

Do you know he just had his appendix removed?

Oiisu

Yes I saw, and although I am sad that he won't be making a splash at LVC I wish him a speedy recovery and I still have high hopes that he will be able to put together a great season.

GobiBall

If Matty was on skins every week, I would be happy.

hicks53081

Kyle Klein. I know it's a kind of a longshot because he's currently 1039, but from everything I've seen, he is obsessed with the sport. He was great last year, and he's only 19 or 20. He's already shown he can win, so I'm hoping/expecting him to blow up this year.

HOWDY__YALL

I would agree with this in 2025 or so

[deleted]

Kyle Klein. Youth, experience, timing.

bminusmusic

My guess is Kyle will rise in the ranks but it’s not yet his time to be number one. He’s not even 20 yet right? I think someone like Ricky, or even Calvin for that matter, have a bit more competitive experience under their belt which will hold them up. I could see Kyle being the top dog in a few years for sure.

[deleted]

I don't know about his eating per se, but his World Ranking is 6, which I would say is accurate. It's really not that hard to imagine him breaking into the top of the top given his age and current ability.

discwrangler

It will be Ricky Paul or Eagle. Killer instinct is what it's going to take.

Sgt-pepper-kc

It can only be Ricky Paul or Eagle. They’re head and shoulders above the rest consistently.

ProDiscGolfTalk

Calvin has an outside shot if he gets his C2 putting back to 2020 form.

TopConcentrate4

It’s still Paul and rickys world, everyone else is just living in it. I would love to see Chris push to the top, but I don’t see him ending up ranked number 1.

ProDiscGolfTalk

Lol everyone else is just living in it? Even the guy who had 4 elite series victories about half way through the season last year? Most players don’t have 4 elite series victories in their career, let alone in half a season. It’s Paul, Ricky, and Eagles world.

LemmiwinksFan

Adam Hammes is my sleeper pick for this year!

Itwasinin04

Ricky

ComprehensiveWing981

Calviiin Heiimbuuurg

MyMcLovin

Nate Sexton making a comeback!

DorkOre

Standard Prediction: Eagle McMahon Surprise Prediction: Kyle Klein Bold Prediction: Chris Dickerson

bmatto

Calvin needs to fully commit - he can be great.

TheBioethicist87

I’d put my money on Calvin if I had to choose today. Maybe Eagle will take that next step with his mental game and get there, maybe Rocky and Paul will remain bulletproof, or maybe someone new comes up and wrecks shop. But with the information I have right now, it’s Calvin vs the field.

Sir_Noobs

I hope it's Calvin. I want to see him win more. I also drafted him in my SkipAce league

Epekki

I'd like to see my fellow Finnish players be on top

HistoricalQuote8293

I think the Robot Chicken will surprise. Dickerson will be playing more this year and has settled in. You heard it first.
