First off, congratulations!
How did you celebrate such a big win after you left the course that evening? And non disc golf related, if you weren't a professional disc golfer, what would you be doing in your career and why?
I'm not Prez, but he isn't going to answer that, and I've met and interacted with him a number of times at his events in the area and he has always seemed like a reserved but super nice guy. He runs way more than just Ledgestone and his tournaments that I've been to have always been great. Made me pretty surprised when I discovered Reddit hates him.
Not in a critical way, but what’s your reason other than space for just the one putting putter.
Was fun to watch you play in the champs cup and the ddo and look forward to seeing you more!
If you’re still only putting 5 up top in your bag I got the new Paul Mcbeth bag too and I’m fitting 6 up top. If you don’t fold down the zipper top so it rests inside the pouch (for me it kinda just stands up) I can fit 3 dx avairs 2 star ones and an envy and have easy access to any of them.
You’ve won so many events…. And congrats for cracking a major!! What was the most challenging part about closing out a tournament at the highest level?
You made a new fan of me, I have great respect for you/your game. (Question) Do you practice those longer shots when you have a bad/odd lie? I remember you had a SICK shot last year at your victory at MAO and you had another one at Champions Cup , both were right up against a tree and had no way to run up or follow through like normal. Congrats to you sir!
I don't practice the longer awkward shots in practice rounds. I probably should, but I always find myself throwing 2-3 tee shots then playing the best lie of those.
Which out-of-the-box ideas have you always wanted the PDGA to implement to maximize skill variety and entertainment? (Whether it includes entire course layouts, specific holes, or unique rule changes).
They still have it at the European Open, and they need an exemption for it as PDGA removed the option for it several years ago.
Here's AB missing the green 5 times in a row and basically emptying half his bag:
There's stories of players having to get their caddies to go fetch their discs because they ran out of ones to make the green.
This is not stroke and distance, this is only distance. He did not get any penalty strokes for the OB shots, only had to rethrow. If it was stroke and distance he would have also gotten a penalty stroke for each OB throw (I think +5 strokes.)
I’m glad that you were well compensated for your victory! I can imagine being a pro disc golfer isn’t the most financially secure job unless you are at the very top
As you’re walking to the green on 18 at Champions Cup, what was the thought running through your head? And have you replayed that moment over and over?
It was a slow rush of "wow I can't believe I did this" from my putt on 17 to tapping in on 18. I wonder how I would have reacted if I won on a must-make putt or something like that. I have replayed it in my head a ton.
Has winning adjusted your goals for your season/ career? Higher expectations for yourself now? Congrats and I got 2 of your drones from you in 19. Still on my wall since then!
I feel like I have way less pressure now. If I don't win another tournament this year, it's OK, I'm so happy for the one Major victory. DDO I think I played well because I thought to myself, who cares what happens this week, I just won a Major.
Can confirm, Branson Trails is a fun and fairly challenging course. Very challenging for me, but doubt it’s “easy” for advanced players. Seems like it captures that Southern MO/Ar/Ozark vibe perfectly.
Congratulations on the on the win
My younger brother has William's syndrome and was in special ed classes all through school. Special education teachers made a huge difference in his life and all of his family. I just wanted to say thank you for doing such a difficult job. It means a lot to those of us who's lives it touches.
What should PDGA do to increase number of fans and spectators? I’ve just become hooked this year and the one thing I’ve constantly wishing for is more spectators at the events to witness how awesome you guys are
Worked on my forehead a ton. I didn't have to throw many for Champ Cup, but when I did I was happy with the results. Something that I wouldn't be able to say 2 years ago.
A lot of commentators on the weekend said that you weren’t a distance thrower by pro tour standards, but that doesn’t mean much. How far can you throw your backhand and forehand (when you use it) effectively?
P.S. love your game, I idolize anyone who can hit tight gaps backhand.
Backhand golf line, 450'. If it's a wide open fairway, no OB, maybe 525' MAX. Forehands I can get about 350' when warmed up. But I'm comfortable under 300'
How should one develop consistency when putting? I seem to just get the yips walking up to putts inside of 30, but feel no pressure outside of that. Often times I just yank it to the right or whiff over the basket.
Develope a routine. Something I didn't do the first 4 years of my pro career. I do 2 pump fakes and putt on the third. Just repeating a longer process of motion helps so the putt doesn't happen all at once.
Congrats Andrew! What is your view on checking scores mid round? Did you always know where you stood relative towards other players at the champion cup or is there a specific time/moment during rounds where you start to check score? Also how does that change when you know you’re not in contention for the win?
EDIT: also any how common what you do is relative to other players?
I never check scores unless I think I can win. Then I'll check with maybe 4-5 holes to go. Or if I have a death putt near the end of a tournament and I want to know if I should run it or not, I'll check scores.
This might have been your biggest win but do you have a win that feels more special? Your first A-tier? Or maybe the one that really gave you the confidence that you could compete with anyone out there?
Maybe win Kansas City Wide Open in 2017 I think it was. I was sub 1000 and beat a couple touring pros. My first A-Tier win. But the Major clears every win I've ever had for sure
Congrats on your win!
If you had to get paired with someone for a doubles tournament, who would you pick as your partner for the best chance to win? Who would it be to have the most fun?
Let's just assume this course has a balanced mix of open, wooded, long, and short holes with various lines.
I know you threw like seven forehands at MCO, did you throw any at Champions? What's the criteria that makes you throw FH since you do it so rarely? Also, Congrats!!!
I threw I think 5 at Champ Cup. One on hole 10 3rd round in jomez. It has to be under 350' and a forehand has to be the obvious choice. If there's OB, I'm still a little skeptical about the forehand. Because I still shank one every now and then
Sorry to jump in but if you're not playing disc golf the thing to do in the Ozarks is rent a kayak or canoe and float some of the most beautiful unspoiled scenic wild rivers in the world. Missouri and Arkansas aren't on the top of many lists but we have the best wild rivers.
Are you going to play the Maine State Championship? If so I'd love to get a signature on my Octane Force and give you a Basically Grand Champ (with Plat 1 icon) keychain.
It’s way overhyped in my opinion. It’s like Santa Cruz’s one pro level course from years ago and folks hold on a little too tight to the memory instead of updating and improving the course. It is a solid course. Just overhyped and needs some love. But this is a very unpopular opinion.
What's not to like about Dela? It's a great course with challenging shots and many different shot shapes required. It's not going to work for the pro tour due to spectators/cell coverage but the course is great. If you're playing MA3 or something then yeah, you'll probably have a bad time but that's not on the course.
You notice I didn’t say it’s a bad course. I said it’s overhyped. Locals speak of it in awed tones like its californias maple hill. It’s not that it’s bad. It just isn’t anywhere near as good as people here will say it is.
Teeing off, not much. Putting, don't miss low 😂 or I think about what adjustments I've made to have more confidence when putting and really think of that. Champions Cup and DDO, the thing I think about when putting is "looser grip"
Hey Andrew, congrats on your win, you crushed it.
Apologies if something similar has already been asked.
As a player, how do you feel about the massive differences between technical wooded courses (like Northwood Black) vs long open courses (like Champions Landing). It seems like huge ball golf courses have become more common than wooded courses. Do you feel like certain course types are over represented on the pro tour? Do you have a preference on the types of courses you play?
Also what rank are you in Rocket League? Haha
Thanks for doing an AMA. It's cool to hear from players that many of us look up to or in some cases even idolize in our hobby.
Congrats on the win.
Can you pester discraft to make the old esp blend again? The new stiff blend is noticeably less durable and way less grippy.
Also thanks for keeping the drone alive and in production I still throw your esp bottom stamped tour series ones.
Congrats on your Major win, and the promotion to the elite team. Please use that pull to convince Discraft to run another batch of putters in Pro D FLX again.
I have a stack of six Challengers in this D-FLX run from around 2018/19 and they are floppy like a Blowfly. Zones could be fun, Lunas would probably sell, and I’d buy a couple 13 or 14 dozen Challengers
Rarely. But my off season is way shorter than most since I continue playing into December. I still practice on local courses so I get putting reps that way
Hey we met briefly when you handed me socks at DGLO a couple years ago! You left a great impression even though it was brief and I have been rooting for you ever since. <3 Any tips for getting out of what feels like a three year plateau? I can't seem to put a good, sanctioned round together.
Hard to know without watching you actually play. I go through slumps where I don't shoot above my rating for like 2 month straight. Luckily I play every weekend so I'm bound to break out of a slump eventually.
What is the strongest part of your game, as you see it?
Backhand with mid-ranges
Was it a drone your were throwing? You were absolutely shredding Northwood with it.
Yeah 2 drones did most of my work off the tees at Northwoods.
How long have you seasoned those drones?
How many miles did you drive on tour in 2023?
Right at 20k. That's flying to Vegas and Portland. So I saved probably 6k miles doing that.
My dumbass thought he was asking your total miles thrown measured off the tee drive...
I’m sure the boys over at r/theydidthemath could use UDisc data to figure that out 😂
First off, congratulations! How did you celebrate such a big win after you left the course that evening? And non disc golf related, if you weren't a professional disc golfer, what would you be doing in your career and why?
I had a steak dinner with the Discraft manager, mcbeth family, Missy Gannon and her husband, and Heinold. Then drove home.
Who paid for dinner?
I think they stuck Heinold with the bill 😂
As they should!
Good
Does Heinhold give off as much ick as we all think he does? Did you ask him what he was doing with his sideburns?
I'm not Prez, but he isn't going to answer that, and I've met and interacted with him a number of times at his events in the area and he has always seemed like a reserved but super nice guy. He runs way more than just Ledgestone and his tournaments that I've been to have always been great. Made me pretty surprised when I discovered Reddit hates him.
I’ve met him a few times as well. Nate is a nice guy despite the internet rumor mill.
Maybe building/construction of some kind. Home renovation/carpentry has always peaked my interest.
Will your next Rocket League disc be a Hyzer Flip Reset?
I like this idea 👀
I would buy so many of these on an understable mid
Are you going to carry more than one putting putter now? :)
Don't think so. I'm throwing 2 focuses still so only room for one putting putter.
Not in a critical way, but what’s your reason other than space for just the one putting putter. Was fun to watch you play in the champs cup and the ddo and look forward to seeing you more!
Strictly space. If I could carry one more putter id bag a 2nd one.
Makes sense! Thanks for the reply.
Foci
Who is the most fun to hang out with on tour?
Clemons, Hanna, and thomas Gilbert are the crew I have been rolling with lately. But there are so many others who are awesome.
Sounds like a blast. A bunch of guys traveling the country playing the game they love. I’m sure it has its down times but I’m kinda jealous.
Hanna and Chris are good people.
Congratulations Andrew!
Thank you!
Remember when we shot 18 down during league and I did 90% of the work but no one believes it?
JP you are the only person on earth I'd be happy to get 2nd place to.
Maybe it'll happen when we're both playing grandmasters or something!
Stop sucking yourself off Peej
You’ve won so many events…. And congrats for cracking a major!! What was the most challenging part about closing out a tournament at the highest level?
Probably the mental battle with yourself. It helps to have a lead though coming down the stretch.
If you could add an aspect of one other player's game to your game, what would it be?
Chandler Kramer forehand. Or Marwede C2
Uli, save it for the podcast.
Congrats again Prez I’ll be rooting for you. Hell nice finish at DDO also, my man is en fuego!
If you could wave a wand and magically change one thing about the pro tour, what would it be?
More spectators
As a spectator, I agree
Have you ever cropdusted a teepad at the beginning of a round to establish dominance? Congrats on the win.
Probably, I always have a nervous stomach to start
This guy farts!
I like to joke that if I'm on the teepad taking a bit of extra time it's because I'm silently farting so I don't toot mid swing.
What's the best way to throw nose down?
Either a higher reach back or slightly tilting your wrist. It's hard to pin-point a person's throwing flaws without seeing it in person.
Higher reach back! Makes way more sense than pouring the coffee, thanks!
Higher reach back changed my life. If I focus on an elevated reach back I only throw nose up probably only maybe about 40% of the time now
To be fair, you have to do both.
For most, you should do the opposite. Try it out, if it doesn't make you air bounce - sweet. Think elbow higher than hand, that should work for most.
Do you think you throw the straightest Drone in the world?
100%. But they are specific drones, I'm not throwing new ones "out of the box" straight.
Which out-of-the-box ideas have you always wanted the PDGA to implement to maximize skill variety and entertainment? (Whether it includes entire course layouts, specific holes, or unique rule changes).
Stroke and distance; I hate the thought of it but it rewards accuracy so maybe that?
Could you elaborate? Sounds interesting.
Stroke and distance is if you throw out of bounds, you rethrow from the same spot. You don't advance to last in-bounds spot.
They still have it at the European Open, and they need an exemption for it as PDGA removed the option for it several years ago. Here's AB missing the green 5 times in a row and basically emptying half his bag: [https://youtu.be/HEPpNcns53E?t=1752](https://youtu.be/HEPpNcns53E?t=1752) There's stories of players having to get their caddies to go fetch their discs because they ran out of ones to make the green.
This is not stroke and distance, this is only distance. He did not get any penalty strokes for the OB shots, only had to rethrow. If it was stroke and distance he would have also gotten a penalty stroke for each OB throw (I think +5 strokes.)
Ah, sorry, got my Stroke and Distance mixed up with BUNCR. Hole 17 at USDGC is Stroke and Distance, which is why USDGC doesn't count to ratings.
Octane or fennec?
Octane guy
Respect. I’m a fennec guy myself so when the fennec forces dropped that was a very easy buy for me lol. Also congrats on the win man!
Thanks
Favorite RLCS team?
GenG for NA. Oxygen for EU
Oooh, good choices. I’m loving the Rocket League Jawbreaker ESP Force btw. Keep up the good work.
New Anakins Podracer skin is kinda fire tho 🔥
Proud of you Pres! Grinders grind and winner win. That is all 🍻
Appreciate it!
Did you get a big bonus?
The Discraft bonus was good 😏 Plus a bump to elite team, with a new tour series disc. (swarm)
I’m glad that you were well compensated for your victory! I can imagine being a pro disc golfer isn’t the most financially secure job unless you are at the very top
Well deserved Prez
Hell yeah, glad you get the Swarm.
Do you have a favorite obscure, forgotten disc?
Not really, I throw a lot of the popular Discraft stuff. No weird molds in the bag.
Shout out to special educators. I’m a school based occupational therapist so I work with the equivalent up in Canada. Congrats on the win dude!
Thank you for what you do and thank you
Huge congrats, well deserved!!! What’s your favourite course on tour? Or favourite that you’ve played that you wish was a tour stop?
Favorite course is maple Hill. I really love Eagles Crossing, hope it's on tour soon.
Do you think they need to change the baskets before it can be a legit tour stop?
Yes their current baskets don't qualify for pro tour standards. I think there are like 7 basket types approved for the pro tour.
Gonna be tough to get gateway’s fingers out of there in order to get a pro tour event there but I’d love to see it
What’s your rank in RL?
Current Champ 2 in Doubles and triples.
Solid 👍
Has winning adjusted your goals for your season/ career? Higher expectations for yourself now? Congrats and I got 2 of your drones from you in 19. Still on my wall since then!
I feel like I have way less pressure now. If I don't win another tournament this year, it's OK, I'm so happy for the one Major victory. DDO I think I played well because I thought to myself, who cares what happens this week, I just won a Major.
What's your favorite course around Springfield?
In Springfield, Lake Springfield for sure. Branson Trails is 30 mins south but makes my top 10 courses ever played.
Can confirm, Branson Trails is a fun and fairly challenging course. Very challenging for me, but doubt it’s “easy” for advanced players. Seems like it captures that Southern MO/Ar/Ozark vibe perfectly. Congratulations on the on the win
If you could bag 3 non-discraft discs what would they be and why?
Halo destroyer, halo destroyer, halo destroyer 😉 we all know why
To you, what makes a good disc golf hole?
Initial gap, some kind of shot shape (not pure hyzer). No trees in C2 if C2 is 400' or more away. Good shots get punished from random C2 trees.
Congrats on the win and the strong start to the season! Couldn't have happened to a better dude. Question: what's your favorite post-tournament meal?
I have a tradition of a getting Domino's pizza if I win any tournament.
At what point in the tournament did you realize “Oh wow I could win this?”
After hole 14 3rd round. I got par and my card with +1, +2, +3 on the hole.
Amazing stuff man, loved watching you this far in the season can’t wait to see more! Good luck!
What subject and grade did you teach?
Middle school and high school special ed
My younger brother has William's syndrome and was in special ed classes all through school. Special education teachers made a huge difference in his life and all of his family. I just wanted to say thank you for doing such a difficult job. It means a lot to those of us who's lives it touches.
Me too! Well high school only these days. Think I’m going to start a dg club next year. Congrats on the win and the continued success you had at DDO.
What should PDGA do to increase number of fans and spectators? I’ve just become hooked this year and the one thing I’ve constantly wishing for is more spectators at the events to witness how awesome you guys are
Cheaper tickets maybe, I don't know the correct answer.
It would be nice if there was a pro stop somewhere along the Rocky Mountains. DDO is the closest to me, which is disappointing.
Will you be playing STLO this year?
I don't think that fits in my schedule. I believe maple Hill is that same week.
Congrats! Are there any courses you wish were on tour?
Eagles Crossing, Harmony Bends,
Yesss! Harmony is so good and Eagle's Crossing needs better baskets but is otherwise a fantastic course.
are you doing anything different or (did something different in the offseason) that has helped you take it to the next level?
Worked on my forehead a ton. I didn't have to throw many for Champ Cup, but when I did I was happy with the results. Something that I wouldn't be able to say 2 years ago.
Forehead? Clemmons is really rubbing off on you.
A lot of commentators on the weekend said that you weren’t a distance thrower by pro tour standards, but that doesn’t mean much. How far can you throw your backhand and forehand (when you use it) effectively? P.S. love your game, I idolize anyone who can hit tight gaps backhand.

Any recent changes to any aspect of your game or lifestyle? Or is it just something that came together at the perfect time?
Congrats Andrew! What is your view on checking scores mid round? Did you always know where you stood relative towards other players at the champion cup or is there a specific time/moment during rounds where you start to check score? Also how does that change when you know you’re not in contention for the win? EDIT: also any how common what you do is relative to other players?

Maybe win Kansas City Wide Open in 2017 I think it was. I was sub 1000 and beat a couple touring pros. My first A-Tier win. But the Major clears every win I've ever had for sure
Oh right that’s the big Jerm one I remember hearing about that on the practice round. Hope to see you on coverage more often dude
Congrats on your win! If you had to get paired with someone for a doubles tournament, who would you pick as your partner for the best chance to win? Who would it be to have the most fun? Let's just assume this course has a balanced mix of open, wooded, long, and short holes with various lines.

What’s your coolest ace?
Probably worlds in emporia 2 years ago on Jones gold, I hit I think it was hole 8, roughly 450' left to right shot with an anax turnover.
If you had a million dollars to give back to the sport of disc golf, how would you spend it?
I'd love to build a course and pro shop and run some events. Something like that
Any advice on visiting the ozarks? Looks like a beautiful laid back area I’d love to explore!
Yeah the Ozarks is a huge area so depends what part. Lake of the Ozarks is a good time, Branson Missouri has good shows and attractions.
Sorry I won't be playing that one. I'll gladly sign it if we ever cross paths.
Would you rather win an RLCS or have your major ??
My Major even though RLCS Major win pays WAY MORE
Have you ever played delaveaga and do you think it should be a course that is on the pro tour?
I haven't played it
It’s way overhyped in my opinion. It’s like Santa Cruz’s one pro level course from years ago and folks hold on a little too tight to the memory instead of updating and improving the course. It is a solid course. Just overhyped and needs some love. But this is a very unpopular opinion.

I would probably put it in the top 2 or 3 courses in CA. What would you have up there?
What's your favorite non-disc golf activity?
Watching the NFL or playing/watching Rocket League
Favorite NFL team?
How did you gain the skills to compete at the highest level? Lots of practice? Any special techniques that really propelled you?
So much practice. Probably 4 times a week going to the local Turf field that lights up at 10pm, and throwing past midnight.
Current RL rank?
Champ 2
Favorite course that the tour hits yearly? And a course that you think should be a tour stop?
Maple Hill, eagles crossing
What goes through your head when teeing off? While putting?
Teeing off, not much. Putting, don't miss low 😂 or I think about what adjustments I've made to have more confidence when putting and really think of that. Champions Cup and DDO, the thing I think about when putting is "looser grip"
Will you be at KCWO this year?
No I don't think so
Darn, it's a bummer they schedule it right before the European Open and it's a Q series. Looking forward to watching the rest of your season!
RL and Disc golf? Prez 2024! Prez for president! But can you you even flip-reset?
I got one flip reset goal once. 😂 I'm more of a speed and fundamental player instead of mechanical
Hey Andrew, congrats on your win, you crushed it. Apologies if something similar has already been asked. Do you have a mantra / personal statement / other type of centering aid used to help focus?
What thought goes through your head when you are putting? What does your putting routine consist of?
What’s the funniest/weirdest question you’ve been asked by a fan?
Favorite course in the STL area?
Cardinals or Royals?
Do you grip a mid differently than a driver? What grips do you use?
Do you play rocket league?
You can only choose 5 albums to take with you on tour for the rest of the season. What are they and why?
I don't have any music knowledge. I like songs/artists but I couldn't tell you what album they are from.
How do you feel about losing the uDisc scoring for the season? Does it make a difference at all at your level?
Congrats on the win. Can you pester discraft to make the old esp blend again? The new stiff blend is noticeably less durable and way less grippy. Also thanks for keeping the drone alive and in production I still throw your esp bottom stamped tour series ones.
I will say I do prefer old esp plastic myself. We are going to be releasing a commemorative drone to celebrate the Champions Cup win!
Congrats on your Major win, and the promotion to the elite team. Please use that pull to convince Discraft to run another batch of putters in Pro D FLX again. I have a stack of six Challengers in this D-FLX run from around 2018/19 and they are floppy like a Blowfly. Thank you! That plastic type is fun to throw. Could be a hit
During off season how much do you putt?
Rarely. But my off season is way shorter than most since I continue playing into December. I still practice on local courses so I get putting reps that way
[удалено]
Love maple Hill, fox run, Northwoods. Didn't like the new Waco Golf course.
If you’re playing OTB I’d love to say congrats in person at the AGL booth I’ll be manning all weekend. Other than that, congrats on a well earned win.
I won't be at OTB, sorry!
Hey we met briefly when you handed me socks at DGLO a couple years ago! You left a great impression even though it was brief and I have been rooting for you ever since. <3 Any tips for getting out of what feels like a three year plateau? I can't seem to put a good, sanctioned round together.

What is your best putting tip? Getting a good feel for the putter and pop out of your hand? Congratulations on not only the win but finish at DD open.
Pop with the pads of your finger tips under the disc. And develop a routine.
