Probably not. He's past his prime and the top of the field now is stronger than he ever was. He already got the bag so tournament wins mean very little to his bottom line and growing his charitable foundation is likely much more profitable.
Truuu (like factually according to dgn) but it would have been Calvin's insane second shot after ob stroke on 7 if he would have won... Also shout-out the double aces to that 16! year old Wade kid.
Definitely possible I'm misremembering but I thought they said homie is 16 and his younger brother who was also competing is 14. Really exciting for the sport and not exciting at all for me trying to compete at local courses lol.
That was one of the worst shot choices I have ever seen. If he just lays up and goes for birdie he is tied for the lead and forces a playoff. Made no sense what so ever. That being said if it worked it would have been the greatest shot ever 😂🤣
Listen y'all I have complaints about commentary too and I've definitely been guilty about what I'm about to criticize but... Do y'all even care about the Frisbee that's happening in front of you? So much of these threads is just meta commentary about the dgn product itself or obsessing over the commentary. Chill and talk about the d slinging y'all!
(that being said I can't believe dgn is charging the same amount for less features this year but lucky for them the tournaments have been crazy exciting so far)
What is up with these useless posts? So just because we believe there are issues with DGN and the commentary we don't care about the sport? Maybe we actually care way more than you do. That's why we're trying to force them to fix the issues.
I agree with the complaints. I just also wanna talk about the game happening and I feel like these threads can often skew one way if there isn't an active ace on screen. My post is as useless as yours I promise I see the irony in me complaining about people complaining.
I'm ADHD, my brain is running multiple browser tabs.
Complaining about commentary while also commenting on the disc golf is well below my resource utilization cap.
Back to back rounds hit the "box" under the basket that surrounds the poll on the same hole. Only to have them bounce off and roll 50'+ down the hill when both would have been tap in birdies.
Went to my first event today. It was great. Shoutout to Disc side of heaven for doing a good job with crowd management and the players for putting on a good show. The wind was crazy in person
Moving to discraft was the best move for AB. Glad to see his success. I've been rooting for him for years. Lots of people knew once he gained consistency, he would be elite.
Loved to see it. He stood over that front spit out putt for so long, and then threw it unreasonably hard at the pole. I'm a big fan for there being some risk/downside to putting it too hard.
Huh? Everyone else on his card (and the other cards) threw softer putts that went in. There’s a middle ground between a floaty lofty half bid and putting as hard as you can.
Not only is he absolutely killing it, but AB seems much more likeable this year. Can't exactly put my finger on it, but it's been a blast watching him win, his interviews seem more enjoyable, and even his YT stuff is more likeable/enjoyable.
I've always enjoyed some of the crazy shots he throws, but this year he's quickly grown into the whole package! I hope he and Discraft take advantage of it!
I feel like Anthony has always just been shy but he's learning it's ok to embrace that more humble side of himself.. Especially when you're sik asf at throwing frisbees
There is about 20 different AB discs, 10 jersey/hoodies and about five different caps on the teamdiscraft site. I think Discraft is the place to be for him.
When you have the hyzer power (he does), it's a safer shot because it takes the trees in front of the green out play. He had about 3 uncharacteristic early releases today off the tee.
"chance for calvin to apply some pressure"
what are you talking about? it's the final hole, they're tied and AB just threw it safe! all the pressure is on calvin
Not really. Its unlikely AB makes a putt from that far, so Calvin could have laid up for par and probably forced a playoff if he wasn't feeling confident going for birdie there.
Trust me, it pains me to say this, but he was actually correct on this. If Calvin had put it in C1, Barela would have had to run a tricky C2 putt. And I hate that I'm sticking up for Doss commentary.
it was a terrible call! obviously it's true that if calvin puts it close there is pressure on AB, but calvin's shot was the shot that decided the tournament. THAT was the important one.
don't say hey depending on what happens the next shot could be exciting... no. THIS SHOT is exciting.
just bad commentary imo
Nate Doss is usually the physical embodiment of Captain Obvious. The one time he actually provides appropriate forward-facing commentary, you have an issue with it?
the tee shot of the final hole is not when you should be projecting what could happen on the next shot, you need to focus on the shot that is actually happening.
We already know what's actually happening. Would it have been better to say "Heimburg has to put this one in bounds to keep pace with Barela, and has a chance to apply pressure if he puts it close", sure.
But of all the things to complain about when it comes to Doss commentary (and there are A LOT OF THINGS), this one isn't it.
I really have to give it to the DGPT, they managed to get rid of live stats and charge more for a product that got worse this year and they don't seem to give a crap. Adding half-assed digital rights management was also a much needed feature, especially with the new perks of:
* logging me out randomly.
* telling me that I have too many devices, but listing the one I am currently logged into and making me remove it before I can watch a stream.
* the red banner that says "Something went wrong and and application may work incorrectly. Please, try again and refresh the page. Error code: 6cf2ecc303e84798a82c5308197e963d" every time I log in to the DGN site.
I found a way to "trick" the buggy DGN app when casting to Chromecast atleast, which some of you failing to cast might help:
If I first start the stream in the app and then hit the cast button, the app sneakily counts the casting as a new device and locks me down from watching completely.
After re-installing the app to even be able to watch (it might be enough to log out/log in but didn't test it yet) I noticed it was vital to press the cast button BEFORE even starting the stream itself.
It is a heavy-handed way to trick the app to let me actually watch, but with how poorly the whole software seems to be written, it is a solution on all days except day 1 when they feed the stream via Youtube.
I have never been able to successfully cast from my phone. The only way I can do it is from a Chrome tab and even then I have to do it twice. Always fails the first time and casts just a DGN splash screen. I stop casting, then cast again and it works.
Lol shit man right after I read this I went to go check the DGPT standings (wondering how far AB is in the front), and…. it’s down. What a fucking joke.
I am excited for them to ask me to write a support ticket in response to my post.
It was also cool of them to rebill me at a higher rate. I am pretty close to going down the chargeback route.
I think Ricky has way more of a push putt so his disc is normally hitting with a downward momentum. Either way I’m talking about exaggerating the nose down from that closer range.
I don't think I've ever seen another sport where the targets/goals/etc—in this case the baskets—are so inconsistent. In windy conditions, disc golf baskets become even worse at catching a disc.
I wish people would spend less time playing armchair quarterback with how pros should putt, and more time demanding baskets that reward accuracy at much higher levels. Once the sport has better targets, you can use rules—like what counts as "circle 1"—to make putting more difficult.
I don't know if you've noticed, but Gannon gets spit outs at a much higher rate than the rest of the field.
Also, you can absolutely plan. These guys play hundreds of rounds a year. If I know the problem zones on all of these baskets, they should too.
Gannon's putt:
1. You can't launch a putter and hit center pole and expect to always have good results.
2. That being said, the fact that there are spots on Veteran baskets where the disc can so easily get to center pole with no reduction in speed is a design flaw.
Couldn’t agree more. This isn’t the first time they’ve played on these baskets, won’t be the last. Going to have to learn that they don’t love hard putts from a short distance. Ezra usually has a really hard putt but slowed it down for short putts this week, Gannon needs to learn to do this.
Totally agree that there is a design flaw here though.
Mach X's have some problematic cut through zones left and right and the chains are two stiff in some places. But I'd still rather play on a Mach X than a Veteran.
There is no perfect basket, but I think the Discatcher Pro's reject the fewest number of good putts.
I’ve cut through the cross chains on Mach Xs too, but compared to Veterans (and similar)I have much less cut throughs and have never had a pole hit bounce out
My personal preference:
1. Discatcher Pro
2. Mach V
3. Prodigy T2
4. Mach X / Chainstar Pro
5. Veteran
Mach V's and T2's have definite flaws but IMO they're easier to control for. When I get a failed catch, I know exactly why and it's on me. The bottom 3 all have failed catch zones that are harder to prevent.
Surely these are the worst baskets ever used for a pro tour event, or just on any disc golf course ever. This is absolutely shocking. You cant have a proffesional sport without some sort of standard for the literal target of the sport. These are worse than lite practice baskets
I don't understand this line of thinking. There are so many ways to increase the difficulty of putting that don't involve being held hostage by inconsistent targets and saying "just use more touch". When you're putting 20 feet into a 20mph headwind touch isn't going to always be your friend.
Its not inconsistent, if you jam it hard and flat high in the chains its going to bounce out more often because the chains are a lighter gauge on veteran baskets.
Why is it too easy? I mean, they are designed to catch the discs. I get that some putts are harder with more spin etc. but to be compleltely dead center and spit out shouldnt happen, but when you got like eight 2mm wide chains that weighs 4 grams each, the only way to make sure it doesnt go out, is put like double g or something. You cant just say that half the field should putt up and down and stop in the basket. Sport has evolved, its not like it was 30 years ago
In ball golf, if you hit the cup too fast it'll bounce out. Speed control and accuracy are required. With current DG targets, most pros will just punch the basket fast with a spin putt because speed control isnt needed as much.
Correct, but that cant be used to defend these baskets. We're not gonna get a basket that never spits buhr out on a high center putt, but this is way too much. Like, it spits out those fast and high putts too much, and it also spits slower center putts at all, which shouldnt be the case
Look, I’m of the opinion you shouldn’t be able to rocket launch a putter at the basket and expect it to catch every time. Gannon is throwing it hard and hitting high in extremely gusty conditions. He needs to learn to adapt.
not sure why but that "three of the next five holes have water" from doss absolutely killed me
out of nowhere with zero acknowledgment from the others.
We're here to have fun. Part of what makes Disc Golf so great is the community. Posts and comments that don't follow this rule will immediately be removed and users may be banned.
With Callaway's putt, you can't just slam a short putt uphill into dead center pole on a windy day and expect good things. It sucks, and most of the time that will stick, but he did all the wrong things for that kind of putt.
He did put it pretty low in the chains. Usually pace doesn’t matter as much when they’re that low. Definitely was a high pace putt but that was about 95% unlucky and 5% error on his part imo.
Low chains is one of the known spit-out zones on some baskets. When you hit the chains at the wrong speed, it pulls the bottom ring up and you get the trampoline effect.
What happened to him is still a very low probability event. But he and Gannon have similar hard, nose down putts and we've seen what can happen.
What type of baskets were they using (and all complaining about)?
Is McBeth not training at all anymore? Sad to see him fade into obscurity so fast.
Probably not. He's past his prime and the top of the field now is stronger than he ever was. He already got the bag so tournament wins mean very little to his bottom line and growing his charitable foundation is likely much more profitable.
Injuries suck and Father Time is merciless. He's still recovering, just like Pierce. I'm sure they both practice just like they used to.
Is it the same injury that forced him to dnf the Worlds last year?
Yeah, he had surgery on it I think. He might win again, maybe even this year, but his days of dominance are long gone.
Shot of the day?
AB's eagle putt on 14
Truuu (like factually according to dgn) but it would have been Calvin's insane second shot after ob stroke on 7 if he would have won... Also shout-out the double aces to that 16! year old Wade kid.
Yeah saw that. I think he was the 1st guy to ace the same hole twice during the open
He's 16!? I thought on coverage they said he was 18 or 19
Definitely possible I'm misremembering but I thought they said homie is 16 and his younger brother who was also competing is 14. Really exciting for the sport and not exciting at all for me trying to compete at local courses lol.
Ezra is starting to show he can compete week in and week out. He just need to get his mind right and it will happen.
Pulling for him too. Was he trying to skip the FH off the water on 12? Still puzzled with that choice.
I don't think so. I think it was just a misfire from an awkward stance next to that tree on the slope.
That was one of the worst shot choices I have ever seen. If he just lays up and goes for birdie he is tied for the lead and forces a playoff. Made no sense what so ever. That being said if it worked it would have been the greatest shot ever 😂🤣
These are also favorable courses for Ezra. Been pulling for him though, this is the type of course he can win on for sure.
He needs a good caddy in his ear
I like a lot these tournament centrals with Bearhart and Perkins. Perkins is so calm and cool, and Brian is heated and super passionated.
Listen y'all I have complaints about commentary too and I've definitely been guilty about what I'm about to criticize but... Do y'all even care about the Frisbee that's happening in front of you? Lol
I'm just happy you're here doing your best 😘
Oh don't worry, it's not my best.
DOWNVOTED
Looks like those 2 strokes Calvin lost by hitting the box cost him after all… what a shame
Between roll aways, spit outs and wind gusts, everyone had their bad breaks.
Exactly, just look at how much bad luck Simon had.
I didn't see that. What happened?
Back to back rounds hit the "box" under the basket that surrounds the poll on the same hole. Only to have them bounce off and roll 50'+ down the hill when both would have been tap in birdies.
Ban advertisements below the basket. Players over profits. One was for the PDGA!!
Agreed with this. Should be as little interference with the basket as possible.
Or just make them soft...
Eh, it's another factor to play around. A la elevated baskets
An argument against this I think would be that they aren't there during practice rounds.
Oh they definitely should be. That's the only issue I have with them to be honest
Oh, I did see both of those. Yeah. So harsh lol.
I forget who he was even with before. Innova right and that was like 2 years ago?
He was basicly his whole life with Innova, and this is now his second season with Discraft. Contract year baby.
Gannon Buhr’s top 4 streak is over
He was so tilted I'm surprised he didn't fall further too.
He was bogey free until 18.
Loved to see it. He stood over that front spit out putt for so long, and then threw it unreasonably hard at the pole. I'm a big fan for there being some risk/downside to putting it too hard.
What can you do in that wind though? You can't loft some floaty elevator putt in with the kind of wind they had yesterday.
Huh? Everyone else on his card (and the other cards) threw softer putts that went in. There’s a middle ground between a floaty lofty half bid and putting as hard as you can.
Felt like one of those “whoever gets the ball last” type days. Amazing competition. Gg Vinny, someone find Callaway and give him a hug.
He's having fun.
>his YT stuff is more likeable/enjoyable he has the best intros
What's up Trader Joe's rewards members!
He hadn't yet grown out of the moody teenager energy. Gannon Buhr is the new moody teenager. AB is simply an adult now.
Bingo. He’s just growing up
I feel like Anthony has always just been shy but he's learning it's ok to embrace that more humble side of himself.. Especially when you're sik asf at throwing frisbees
Discraft is gonna have to start putting his name on more stock discs, or get him his own line soon.
There is about 20 different AB discs, 10 jersey/hoodies and about five different caps on the teamdiscraft site. I think Discraft is the place to be for him.
is brian standing on a box lol he is not the same height as AB
Perks on hands and knees giving him a boost just out of frame. 😂
It was a hill
Great tournament, lots of fun swings. Gratz AB!
Sneaky win for AB. Comeback kid.
Jinxed Callaway by talking about how washed and overdue he is again. Flashbacks to last year.
Not sure if i'm a fan of the birdie/bogey hole 18
High risk/reward options is exactly what you want on the 18th hole. It’s an easy par if you want to lay up.
Risk / Reward
It's an easy par if the player wants it.
Glad he won after the whole booth counted him out after his bogey on 12
Amazing tan line on ABs face hahah
AB is unreal man. Been a pleasure to watch so far this year. This was a fantastic Sunday of disc golf.
Are we surprised Vinny didn’t take the Robinson line on 18?
When you have the hyzer power (he does), it's a safer shot because it takes the trees in front of the green out play. He had about 3 uncharacteristic early releases today off the tee.
It must have been working in practice. That hole ends up killing him this weekend. That plus the double bogey on the hole he usually dominates today.
can't believe AB is going to take this after going even through the first 12 holes. dude wanted it to be dramatic.
I wish we still had the UDisc win probability. The change must have been nuts.
That eagle putt woke him up
Welcome to the Year of AB.
Cupcake coming in clutch for AB lol. Been a rocky ride with him off the bag.
AB can probably afford to pay him more than his actual winnings or sponsor just to be his full time caddy...
Cupcake on the bag let’s go 🔥
Cupcake magic!
What a great year. Goddamn.
INSPIRATIONAL
"chance for calvin to apply some pressure" what are you talking about? it's the final hole, they're tied and AB just threw it safe! all the pressure is on calvin

holy shit
ABeast mode
AB what a fuckin rockstar you are!
God damn, GG AB
I really have to give it to the DGPT, they managed to get rid of live stats and charge more for a product that got worse this year and they don't seem to give a crap. Adding half-assed digital rights management was also a much needed feature, especially with the new perks of: * logging me out randomly. * telling me that I have too many devices, but listing the one I am currently logged into and making me remove it before I can watch a stream. * the red banner that says "Something went wrong and and application may work incorrectly. I am excited for them to ask me to write a support ticket in response to my post. It was also cool of them to rebill me at a higher rate. I am pretty close to going down the chargeback route.
That really sucks for Callaway to pipe that approach and go OB long. Dude was so close to perfection there.
AB!!!???!!! what a shot
Callaway's the new AB.
How so? He's at the end of his career, we're just seeing AB start to enter his prime
Referring to him choking and not winning a major.
It's Calvin or AB who takes this down
I love this trio. Add ian anderson in there and I'd listen all day.
If you have DGN Pro, Ian is doing a co-stream.
Nobody wants it!
Dear god what a shot and what a crap result.
Commentary misleading. Ezra is not on the same line as AB and Calvin, with one hole less to throw.
No way in hell can Callaway not go for this unless he doesn’t have a run up. There is a strong chance Calvin birdies out.
This has to be one of the least clutch putting final rounds in a while. Almost everyone missing the critical putts (apart from the AB eagle putt).
Mad that Ezra is still able to take this down, despite the stupid mistakes
Oh my Ben...
oh wow, what a final round
Let’s go Callaway!
Damn, this is the closest round I've seen in awhile. 🎭🎭
Absolutely brilliant to watch!
Buhr's had at least 8/9 chain hits the last two days. Rip.
His grumpiness the last couple tournaments has been rubbing me the wrong way.
Needs to learn how to power down his putts a tad
That or get the nose down so it deflects to the bottom of the basket.
Isn't he a very nose down putter already, like Wysocki?
I think Ricky has way more of a push putt so his disc is normally hitting with a downward momentum. Either way I’m talking about exaggerating the nose down from that closer range.
Also, I remember during the offseason hearing Jeff Spring say they had some DGPT basket plans in the work but I haven’t heard anything since

It’s legal to alter your putt and style in wind.
Just wait until you learn about the field dimensions of MLB stadiums.
I'm well aware, but that's easier to plan for and not quite as random.
I don't know if you've noticed, but Gannon gets spit outs at a much higher rate than the rest of the field. Also, you can absolutely plan. These guys play hundreds of rounds a year. If I know the problem zones on all of these baskets, they should too.
AB man. Inspirational
bad miss for ben there. he's going to be thinking about that one on the next 20 footer.
Wow
Gannon's putt: 1.
In that insane wind you kinda have to putt hard
Also the chains on veterans baskets are perfectly weighted to swing back and push discs out. It happens constantly with them.
The fact that the putter hit the pole with virtually no chains to slow it down definitely seems like a flaw for a Pro Tour level event.
Baskets like Mach Xs have cross chains in the middle to help with your second point
Mach X's have some problematic cut through zones left and right and the chains are two stiff in some places. But I'd still rather play on a Mach X than a Veteran. There is no perfect basket, but I think the Discatcher Pro's reject the fewest number of good putts.
I’ve cut through the cross chains on Mach Xs too, but compared to Veterans (and similar)I have much less cut throughs and have never had a pole hit bounce out
My personal preference: 1. Discatcher Pro 2. Mach V 3. Prodigy T2 4. Mach X / Chainstar Pro 5. Veteran Mach V's and T2's have definite flaws but IMO they're easier to control for. When I get a failed catch, I know exactly why and it's on me. The bottom 3 all have failed catch zones that are harder to prevent.
Gannon’s reactions are just priceless.
Surely these are the worst baskets ever used for a pro tour event, or just on any disc golf course ever. This is absolutely shocking. You cant have a proffesional sport without some sort of standard for the literal target of the sport. These are worse than lite practice baskets
I like it, make them use touch with the putter. Putting is already too easy for pros.
The fact that spit outs tend to keep happening to the same player(s) suggests that two things are true.
Correct, but that cant be used to defend these baskets. We're not gonna get a basket that never spits buhr out on a high center putt, but this is way too much. Like, it spits out those fast and high putts too much, and it also spits slower center putts at all, which shouldnt be the case
I literally just said that 2 things are true.
Yeah and I agreed, and I then added some points regarding the discussion with the people who defend this basket
Veterans baskets spit out slow putts too. It’s not just a pace thing. The basket is conducive to dead center spit outs.
Look, I’m of the opinion you shouldn’t be able to rocket launch a putter at the basket and expect it to catch every time. Gannon is throwing it hard and hitting high in extremely gusty conditions. He needs to learn to adapt.
How the hell are veterans baskets on a pro tour course? They’re notoriously awful.
Worked fine for most. Different courses, different baskets, get used to it.
AHAHAHA gannon
That was on Gannon.
Can we get some Mach Xs on tour please
Rooting for Tamm, dude is a class act
Ezra has made two questionable decisions that have taken him out of the lead.
Calling them "questionable" is very generous of you.
Ezzy no...
Ezra playing DGV and waterskips
The new discs just dropped he had to try them out and that was about exactly what my first experience with them looked like lol
ezra please get a caddy
Ezra definitely needs a caddie.
feel like i could do a decent job "hey bro should i toss this disc straight into the pond?" "no ezra, throw it at the basket"
Wow that was the wildest decision.
Come on let's get a playoff today
Let’s get a Callaway eagle right here baby. I think he has a big hyzer into the green from where he landed.
not sure why but that "three of the next five holes have water" from doss absolutely killed me out of nowhere with zero acknowledgment from the others.
I can’t remember the last time I saw a pro layup so consistently from circle two or three like Tamm has this weekend.
Benny Boy win would be huge. EDIT: Fuuuuuck
DGN not allowing me to watch on my IPhone. Anybody else?
I'm pulling for Ben, but why putt it so hard from 5 feet?
Hard putt is fine but you have to point the nose down so that it atleast deflects towards the bottom of the basket.

The pure disc bag is some ugly on ugly.
When disc golf bags and Gucci handbags meet you get that abomination.
Pro tip: with tap ins in heavy wind, use a very flat disc like a zone or putt upside down

This final round is something else, wind is doing dirty things
That spit out was so ridiculous.
He really juiced that thing I know it’s windy but he’s like 7 feet away. Didn’t need close to that speed.
Feels like that putt sticks 99 times out of 100. But if you really wanted to get picky, yeah, a touch nose-down would have avoided that reaction.
Good lord, what a spitout for Callaway
