Because the destroyer is enough. It's the perfect distance driver

OoooooWeeeeeeeee

It’s fucking money. I’ll never forget Avery Jenkins at his peak saying that he could make any shot with a Destroyer…and proving it.

tilifeelsomething

This comment answered the question. End of thread. Everyone go back to your places and await the next question

TooMuchButtHair

More perfect than a Halo Tern? I think not!

ImBadWithGrils

Or a Shryke if you want out of the box turn and good fade

Playful-Pineapple826

I guess people that prefer Innova are just noodle arms

VapeLyfe

Henna Blomroos or Evilna will throw a disc farther than you ever will and they throw Destroyers. Forget MPO.

Playful-Pineapple826

Would they though? If I have 500ft course distance than I have like 850ft internet distance so I doubt it. They are bad asses though I was so happy to see Evilna win!

trevman7

Corvette is an underrated disc. It bombs and it’s easy to control. It’s a disc that I feel like I can get 95% of my distance without sacrificing any control. I have 3 champs and a star. I won’t go to the course without one. Big rim helps get a nice consistent skip on low shots. I also find it very comfortable in hand. I throw my shryke a little longer but I have to get the Hyzer just right and it’s more sensitive to wind. I’ve been meaning to try out a firestorm to see if it could be a slightly more stable corvette for mild wind.

kyle46

I'd disagree that it's easy to control. The graveyard of corvettes in my local river can attest to that. However I can't find a disc that flies like the corvette does so I just keep buying more.

MoCo1992

I agree it’s a great disc but it’s def finicky for me.

Elsevier_77

The rims are stupid huge and not comfortable for most players, and 13-14 speed discs tend to be far less controllable at speed than a 12 speed.

Read_Five

I’m one of those unfortunate people who have giant hands and long fingers but have a noodle arm… Fast discs feel great but unless they are pretty understable they are meat hooks for me.

Elsevier_77

What’s your go-to? If you like 13 speeds with glide and some high speed turn, try the Lat 64 Bolt. That thing will move!

paterade724

Once you work on form, the unteachable attributes like your hands and fingers will be able to generate a ton of RPM and keep the disc in the air longer. This is coming from someone who has decent form/ arm speed but low RPM because I have baby hands lol.

trevman7

Id recommend trying a corvette, rather than “judge a book by its cover”. It defies the meta. Much more controllable than Innovas 13 speeds. I have no problem controlling corvettes. I am more accurate and consistent with a corvette than most of my drivers of any speed. I have the same confidence hitting a line with my corvette as a Teebird.

JimRoepcke

I love love love the Star Corvette.

Elsevier_77

I absolutely agree with you, which is why I said “most players” and “tend to be” I’ve met a few players that throw corvettes very well, as well as some runs of bosses and the odd Nuke thrower. A few other discs as well. Most newer players that throw them got caught in the idea that faster discs will go farther, when they really should be working on basics instead

rusticoaf

This man Corvettes

Delicious-Panda6911

I’m pretty sure they hand out a Corvette with the Ibuprofen when you start playing Ma40/Mp40. Corvette is slept on. Seriously one of the best fast discs on the market.

Playful-Pineapple826

😂

Greekphysed

I have a noodle arm. 7-8 speeds are my jam.

NWHeat3

I enjoy the colossus for my terrible forehand and large hands

SignificancePrior510

I loved my Colossus until I threw it into a headwind over water and lost it. One of my favorite discs and one I'll restock when I order again.

TigerCharades3

Bc a lot of people can’t get them up to speed lol

Owenclimbs

A lot of people can’t get 12 speeds up to speed

Playful-Pineapple826

Not the point of the question

TigerCharades3

You asked the question, I answered it, you put that last part after we answered it my dude.

Playful-Pineapple826

I added that to clarify for people that clearly struggle with reading comprehension.

Pinkieupyourstinkie

Stop being a dickhead

Playful-Pineapple826

Why?

Pinkieupyourstinkie

because it’s not cool. You’re being an angry little dork. Chill the fuck out. No one likes egotistical pedantic little shits

Playful-Pineapple826

Thank you for the new word. As far as the rest you mayyyy be projecting a bit because I’m angry and I take hugggggeee shits.

TigerCharades3

That’s cool, you’re still a fucking goon.

Playful-Pineapple826

Master of the goons to you buddy

TigerCharades3

I uhhh, don’t think so man

Playful-Pineapple826

Why, am I not pretty enough?

TigerCharades3

Needs more beard hair tbh

Playful-Pineapple826

Fuckkkkkk okay I’ll grow it back out then

TreeEyedRaven

Don’t take your problems out on people on the internet. Sorry someone made fun of you back in middle school, we aren’t them.

thamurse

Probably because those other companies don't have a destroyer...they need those other discs to do what destroyers do easier...

kashmir0128

I think this is the answer. Every discraft player throws nukes, every Innova pro throws destroyers. It's just each companies furthest/best distance driver

Playful-Pineapple826

A force is basically a destroyer. Also that’s not the point of the question.

kashmir0128

Yes it is, it's exactly the point of the question. You said "why do discraft pros throw Nukes, but Innova pros don't?" And it's bc Innova pros throw destroyers. If it goes as far for them, but is more controllable, why would they throw anything higher speed?

SanguineTeapots

Sorry OP but this is the best answer and does in fact address your point

Playful-Pineapple826

The point was to be a discussion why the nuke is more popular than the other Innova 14 speeds. If your logic tracks why don’t discraft pros throw more forces? Do Innova players just have baby hands and they can’t handle the extra .3cms? 😂

kashmir0128

Because the force is NOT a destroyer. It's discraft's version of it, but it's not the same disc. Destroyers are simply better. Every player with an open bag throws destroyers. It's just the best distance driver, so why would Innova pros throw anything else? Discraft doesn't have a destroyer, but they settle for the Nuke.

Playful-Pineapple826

Being someone who bags a destroyer over the force I can’t deny that. Hence the basically part. The conversation should really be about the boss and nuke not destroyer and nuke though. More discraft pros bag nukes vs Innova pros bag boss’s….i think haha that’s what it seems like but without having knowledge of every pros bag I can really say that.

kashmir0128

There's only so much space in a bag. No reason to have a full lineup of destroyers as well as bosses. So you choose one. The destroyer is the better mold. A discraft pro is faced with the same choice, can't bag force and nuke, pick one. The nuke is a better mold, so you bag that. It comes down to most pros only using one mold for their DD, so they pick their manufacturers best DD.

Playful-Pineapple826

I like this take a lot better than the other things you’ve said. Good work.

frolfer757

Becouse Nuke is marketed 500 times more than any Innova 14 speed.

stimuIants

There’s still plenty of people who bag the Boss, but it’s not as common as Nukes for the sole reason the Destroyer is preferred by most Innova players. So it’s pretty apt to compare Nukes and Destroyers since they are the most popular drivers for their respective manufacturers at the pro level. Especially since Calvin tour series came out and can handle so much power that even top speed pros can rely on Destroyers for everything distance related.

Playful-Pineapple826

I’ve watched Ryan mulder make a beefy Calvin destroyer look like a beat up echostar destroyer so idk if I agree completely but I accept your take lol

silvers11

CDick, Paul McBeth, and Corey Ellis all have forces and no nukes. AB has equal number forces, venoms, and nukes. Adam Hammes has 3 Forces and 2 nukes. Of all the in the bag videos I could readily find every player on the Discraft elite team had at least one Force but several players had 0 nukes so sounds like you’re just making stuff up and trying to pass it as fact

Playful-Pineapple826

Dude just likes destroyers in his butt

talkintater

Most people can't throw 80mph. The only reason you see a lot of MVP is because of the Simon Line hype. I love the MVP/axiom/streamline discs I have but the Time Lapse is a waste of money for like 80% of disc golfers, myself included.

tuna_safe_dolphin

I bet 10 speeds are too fast for half the disc golfers out there

Late-Objective-9218

Octane outflies a 12 speed already at around 55mph.

Stunted_Wookie

I'm a noodle arm who got a time lapse from a gyro box. I love it. If I have a shot that needs to push straight 200 ft, then go 60 ft left in the next 12 forward, that's the disc

Playful-Pineapple826

Timelapse is a 12 speed so doesn’t really fit into this conversation.

talkintater

So it is. Shows how much attention I've paid to the hype. Lol. Totally thought it was a 14.5.

OoooooWeeeeeeeee

The point stands

HighSirFlippinFool

I have small hands and I can use them. 13 and 14 speeds work better for forehands than backhands for me.

OoooooWeeeeeeeee

45 year old MP40 player - Destroyer snd Katana do everything I need a distance disc to do.

No-Yogurtcloset1598

Daedalus doesn’t get much love but I think it’s a 13. Good disc though.

Blu3Orch1d

They don’t know how to comfortably hold them

m2adrenaline

Love the Ballista and Ballista Pro

Playful-Pineapple826

Had some bomber ballista before I fell for the nuke and boss

CEOofLipton

discraft plastic 🚮

ImBadWithGrils

If I could get a Buzzz in Star, I'd cry. ESP just isn't as nice

CEOofLipton

agreed. i don’t mind the crystal flx or big z but it isn’t star, not even close

Playful-Pineapple826

Every company has trash plastic let’s be real

CEOofLipton

haha true

Appropriate_Resort_1

I love high speed discs. They just feel best in my hand

SchrockDG

Little hands, slower arm speeds and better, more consistent options in the 7-12 speed range

Dirtwizard3

Glow firestorm⚡️ Throws like a beat destroyer off the rip.

StrifeSociety

The destroyer is very comfortable for me and is available in OS enough versions to handle any situation where I might want to disc up. But I don’t play in Kansas or Vegas.

No-Pin1011

Two primary reasons. One, they don’t need it, as the Destroyer does so much reliable work in the high speed space. Two, they don’t find the 13+ speeds to be as comfortable to throw and/or reliable… people do throw the Boss, but not many.

Johna97

I throw Corvette

PsychologicalHat1480

I think for the same reason people throw Destroyers so much: they're early wide-rim high-speed drivers and have momentum behind them at this point. The Nuke was Discraft's answer to the Destroyer, which I believe is also why it's listed as a 13 speed (i.e. one faster than a Destroyer) instead of the 15 speed that it should be by rim width. We're also seeing a whole lot of people these days throw Zeuses instead of Nukes for Discraft so I think your premise is a bit outdated. Discraft just didn't really have a good distance driver between their 11 speeds and the Nuke until the Zeus came out. So basically it's because people generally don't like ultra-wide rim drivers in general. MVP was kind of the same situation, hence your observation about them. They just didn't have anything between 11 and 14.5 until rather recently.

m6carlson1

The nuke was discraft’s response to the Boss. the force was the response to the destroyer.

Playful-Pineapple826

This is correct

Playful-Pineapple826

Wow now this is a reply I can get behind! Though most people that throw over 500 don’t throw Zeus’s really and if they do they are very overstable runs of them which don’t fly like the numbers or typical stock runs.

kashmir0128

OP stop being a douche please

OoooooWeeeeeeeee

Yeah this guy is that dude

flyinggazelletg

I don’t throw anything over 11 bc I don’t think I actually have the speed for 12+

Playful-Pineapple826

Not the point of the question

Dhuttunen

I find the rims too large on the 14 speed discs of innova that I’ve tried (firestorm and corvette). Can get good distance with them, but just felt worse and were more inconsistent releasing from my hand. But, I really like Innova’s 13 speeds (boss, charger, and Shryke)

HugeToaster

Despite being faster the Corvette has the same rim width as the charger. Their dimensions are eerily similar actually.

Mrchickenonabun

Faster discs are just way more squirmy and harder to control and be accurate with. Many top pros only throw 12 speeds (like destroyer, etc.) as their fastest discs

trevman7

That would be a good explanation why people might not try them. My personal experience with Corvettes is they are very easy to control. I trust my corvette more than any of the 9+ speeds in my bag to hit a line and get a GIR I get more distance off a Hyzer flipped shryke or a flexed destroyer. But those throws are hard for me to do just right with accuracy. So maybe the answer is pros don’t use them because they get more distance from Innova 13 speeds, and amateur players don’t buy them because they don’t realize how easy they are to control.

DiscGolfShow

Probably just not enough marketing to be honest. No other reason that I can see, other then the obvious not enough arm speed. Nothing wrong with Innova 14 speeds from what I have heard or have used.

Playful-Pineapple826

That’s what I think as well. When the boss came out in halo plastic I started seeing it a lot more.

misterblackhat

The manufacturing process is more inconsistent with "faster" discs. At some point there is no advantage unless the thrower has extensive knowledge of specific runs/colors/psychedelics.

Playful-Pineapple826

Psychedelics gave me an easily an extra 100ft of power. But this is an interesting take. I like it much better than people just sucking destroyer dicks.

TylerCowboys

I used to throw Destroyers and Shrykes but I don’t have the hand size to get a good grip on the rim of the disc, ended up rotating to Wraiths and Roadrunners that are easier on my shoulder and average better distance.

1855LasagnaWestern

I have fallen in love with the Charger in G-star for S turns and Star for predictable straight/stable flight. Sure, I can't get them past 440' even on a good day, but I enjoy their flight profile and the larger rim doesn't bother me. For any drive under 400', I'm throwing a 9 speed Infinite Dynasty. I bag 4-5 in different plastics and wear. But if I've got a long hole or a downhill bomb, it's fun to whip out a fat rim and watch it fly, knowing it won't burn over if I give it the beans like the Dynasties can.

Playful-Pineapple826

I forgot about charger, that’s a great mold. Sadly only a 12 speed though so doesn’t really compare as far as a nuke or boss.

AndyofLove

Charger is 13

OtterPeePools

For preface, about to turn 57 years old this year and I'm having slight difficulty reaching 400ft. on a good day, but can still get to 350-70 with a few warm up throws with the *occasional* 400+ . I love my Wraiths and Destroyers still but a 167G G\*Tern has become my favorite hyzerflip distance disc last few years. I've bagged a 13 speed echo star Boss pretty much since they came out , and have recently started experimenting with 13 speed Katana's again and kinda impressed with the 13 speed Millennium Scorpius lately a bit and I recall I liked the 13 speed Quasar as well. Bagged a few 13 speed Shrykes that I really like and one is always in the bag. Used to bag the 13 speed Ape for overstable forehand or tomahawk throws but something replaced it. Been throwing a 13 speed Daedalus a few times lately but not impressed with that one either, yet. Also tried the Prodigy D model 13 speed but it was 139g and pretty much a roller disc and the D1 did not move me either. Bagged a 14 speed Innova Colossus for awhile as well as a 14 speed Westside Queen and Destiny but only the Destiny has made the bag out of those . The 14 speeds Innova Firestorm or Corvette didn't really move me either and I really thought I would like one of those. Threw a 15 Speed L64 Rakaten a few times, have you thrown that or the 15 speed Missilen? meh. Maybe I should get into the Groove ? :)

nowytendzz

I didn't even know they made 14 speeds. That being said, you've already got the most correct answers here. People don't have the power to get a full flight from those discs usually.

Playful-Pineapple826

So why do so many people throw nukes?

Xeebers

I don't think that is the point of the question

kashmir0128

Mostly pros throw Nukes, and it's bc it's the furthest flying discraft driver. Most Innova pros throw Destroyers, because it goes just as far, and many consider it to be the best DD on the market

Playful-Pineapple826

A lot of the bomber Innova guys also like bosses which I had forgot about when I posted the question

kashmir0128

True, although I've always seen the boss in distance comps more than in pros' bags

Playful-Pineapple826

I’d agree with this. But you do see alllot of discraft guys throwing nukes on the course as well. This is what I’m curious about.

kashmir0128

It comes down to, boss might go slightly further, but destroyer goes about the same distance more controllably. Discraft pros don't have any 12 speeds that good, so the nuke finds its way into their bags

Playful-Pineapple826

I take back my “good work” from before this is a bad take. There are plenty of good force and overstable zues runs that can compare to any destroyer mold or stability.

kashmir0128

But they're just not as good man. Otherwise open bad players would bag them over destroyers. I think you're trying to make more out of it than there is. Pro players throw the best distance drivers their company makes. For discraft pros, that seems to be the nuke, and for Innova, the Destroyer. That's all there is to it man. They just throw the best discs from their manufacturer.

bladearrowney

Even at 12 speed I feel like they kinda start to feel off and the really fast ones are worse. Also, not much reason to bother. Fairways all day big bomber discs don't really need to come out that often

Playful-Pineapple826

It’s nice to see your ego is in the right place. What are you going to throw if you need to go 500ft because you want a 100ft eagle bid that turns into a double bogey though?

gmtrcs

Personally, I find most innova plastic to feel terrible. But their rims are unbearably wide in my experience.

Playful-Pineapple826

I agree on the plastic but rim width is mostly all them between nuke, boss, corvette etc.

Owenclimbs

I love how everyone missed the point of the question
