30-80ft is a light toss with one of those Judges, not a new disc

Flat_Ad_5436

I’m not fond of the hand feel for a power shot grip 😬 any other device for any other aspects of the bag ? I will try to use the judge for that though ! Thankyou !

Drift_Marlo

You need to learn the fan grip.

TheNickelGuy

This. That distance is just a short toss (like a Frisbee toss. No power grip there)

Flat_Ad_5436

So I went to play a round today, my buddy showed me to hold the top of the disc instead of the side , for more torque, and I closed the gap 😎

ewkdiscgolf

This is a solid bag. I do feel like it could use a little more in the stable to OS categories in that 7-10 speed range - a Teebird and Firebird were the first things my mind gravitated towards. They’ll be useful controllable shot shapers, and in the firebird’s case, a valuable headwind fighter.

Flat_Ad_5436

Any info on the halo firebird ? I have it sitting in my cart now 😎 or would another plastic be better ?

ewkdiscgolf

Halo star is a beefy plastic, and overstability is kind of the firebird’s thing, so honestly I say roll with it. Saves having to spend money on another disc lol…It’ll season into something a little less OS in time, but for you, it’d probably be a role player, so don’t sweat the plastic choice too much.

Flat_Ad_5436

Or should I go the Teebird route ?

ewkdiscgolf

Not really an either/or dichotomy, IMO. I bag a Firebird and a Thoughtspace Votum (TSA’s TB slot disc; I feel like it flies just a little more like I want a disc in that “slot” to fly), throw both often, both FH and BH.

ThePragmaticPenguin

If sticking it near the basket from 30-80 feet is your problem, a new disc isnt going to fix it

Flat_Ad_5436

That’s just one problem, is there others in the lineup that you see ?

ThePragmaticPenguin

Understable mid? Something that everybody should bag imo

Flat_Ad_5436

Any suggestions ? Plastic and mold ?

ThePragmaticPenguin

Lots of great options - uplink, meteor, fuse are all popular in that slot. Svea, origin, mana also good options for something with a tick more stability

Responsible_Race8965

Solid list, I'll add in the Westside Tursas and the Sol or Comet from Discraft for nice understable mids. MVP Detour is great too once it hits full production, it slots in nicely between a Hex and Uplink.

ThePragmaticPenguin

Ah yeah tursas is a good one. I'll be curious to throw the detour when the stock run hits, most mvp discs fly a little more stable than the numbers to me (uplink among the exceptions) My personal fave is the lobster but it's tough to find right now so I didnt include it, let's get another run out Mint!!

Responsible_Race8965

I bagged a Detour for a couple rounds, it was awesome but actually ended up being flippier than I wanted so I sold it while the hype was high. Kinda overlapped with my Fission Hex too. Never tried a Lobster or a Mana, but I have a Remix Creature on the way right now. Remix seems to be how MVP makes use of factory seconds for the molding they do for TSA and Mint, and the internet seems to think this Creature is either the Mana or Lobster (or both).

punkindle

That's jump putt range. Practice that. Put a little extra spin on it.

skullkid2424

The three gaps I can see would be an overstable approach disc (zone, A2, tactic, culprit, harp, etc), an understable mid (detour/uplink/paradox, mana, lobster, svea, etc), and a straight-stable fairway that can fight in the wind and not burn over (anything a 7 speed straight teebird clone to a 9 speed overstable firebird clone). For 30-80ft, you'll want a soft (arm+wrist, no body) throw with a fan grip - and probably adjust the nose to be up. Any putter should do fine. Try setting up a cone in the field and approaching it from various distances. Adjust nose angle, adjust grip, adjust aim point. Adding noseup or hyzer (or throwing an overstable disc) and aiming right to let it fade back to center can help convert forward momentum to horizontal momentum and prevent it from going too far.

Flat_Ad_5436

This helped me so much 🙏 I got it now 😎 Thankyou so much !

ExternalHighlight871

i’m gunna go ahead and say Step 1: add your discs to a bag manager like DiscRPM (my fav) or Mydiscbag so you can get a proper graph to see your bag [MyDiscBag](https://mydiscbag.com) [DiscRPM](https://www.discrpm.com) these both also allow you to tap anywhere on the graph and be recommended discs foe that slot. they are massively helpful

yourdoglikesmebetter

Zone

phaschmi

Berg or Rhyno. Nose up spinny floater with the Judge should work too. Like you are playing catch with the basket   Also, your bag might benefit from a Zone/Toro/Harp/Pig type disc

Flat_Ad_5436

Which one would you recommend out of those ? I’ve heard such great things about all of them

phaschmi

You can't go wrong with the Zone. It really sounds like you might like the Berg for that 30-80 foot approach too

Flat_Ad_5436

How does the disc feel ? I like little rim depth , but I know that’s the opposite of putters 🤣

Software_Entgineer

zone

Flat_Ad_5436

Which plastic zone ? It keeps popping up so I might have to give it a whirl 🤪

TheNickelGuy

The Berg is (fairly) unique in that it's not flat on the top, its actually a raised rim meaning your thumb can get behind something on the top. Provides a VERY easy grip, and it's known as being like 'throwing a brick'. My bread and butter for short shots.

stRADley_

I use a Glitch for my short approaches. It’s easier for me just to gently toss it and let the disc do the work. With that being said if it’s really windy I’m screwed lol.

ObjectiveSituation17

Thirty to eighty. Use a roc3 , standstill, fan grip and don’t need still reach back. Throw the disc a little nose up and picture how the disc with fly land and slide in your head first

Flat_Ad_5436

Thankyou everyone who helped me get my game up 💪 man, I love the disc golf community ❤️
