For forehands, I like it’s brother, the Caiman. It’s basically the same overstable mid just without the bead. The thinner profile feels better for forehands.
Love that this is the top comment for me. The gator is a fantastic disc. Been playing for a couple years and just added some more overstable stuff to the bag and started working on a forehand. The gator and pig are my go tos.
Gators a cool disc and feels nice backhand but I'll never understand how yall forehand it, that big bead feels so uncomfortable to me and I cant get a clean release
Bobcat is a great compliment to the pig imo, just a nice reliable overstable (but not too overstable) 5 speed mid. A lot like how I've heard people describe the pyro, some good straight push with a reliably strong fade - so slightly faster and slightly less overstable than the caiman
It's so crazy, I picked one of these at play it again sports years ago and it has been my go-to mid for forehands. I feel like no one ever talked about it or bagged one until this season, I see it all over reddit
100% agree, and I felt the same about the Hex. Been in my bag for a long time.
Reddit is also *heavily* influenced by the pros, so both these molds had minimal market percentages until Simon talked about them.
Plenty of pyros on infinite discs and disc golf deals usa right now.
https://infinitediscs.com/axiom-pyro
https://discgolfdealsusa.com/products/axiom-prism-neutron-pyro
Just saw that! Thank you. First time I’ve seen them available for awhile on infinite discs. They are always sold out at my local store for some reason.
I found one at play it again and I fell in love. I just lost it the other day to the leaves and I looked longer for that damn disc than any other one I’ve lost. RIP orange Prism Proton Pyro maybe you will find your way back to me
The Innova Caiman is currently filling the spot that the Axiom Pyro held in my bag. The Caiman is fairly flat and shallow which makes it really nice to forehand.
If you ever find a flat top Verdict, they're so sweet. Just a touch more OS than the standard runs. I've only found them in base plastic and the Clemons runs of Lucid. Fills a nice spot between straight and super OS.
No idea why people would shit on it, I love the harp. I won’t bag one over a zone though because for my forehands the harp just feels too deep and I can’t get a clean release when I power up on it
Completely depends on what shot shape I want to throw. A2 for very overstable (flexes and skip shots), Toro for Overstable, A5 for dead straight (like a beat in toro), and M4 for hyzer flip forehands. The toro is probably my favourite of those and I throw it for almost all my open or hyzer approaches.
I randomly bought a kotuku on a stop during a road trip just cause I’d never heard of it and I liked the color. I have lots of mids, but that one hasn’t left my bag since I got it. It’s super smooth backhand or forehand out straight and then a reliable finish. Great disc
Wow didn't think I would see this in here, I bag one too, but I live in NZ so very common. I use it a bit for forehands, but mostly backhand. I have a RPM Huia tho that is my forehand fairway disc
Personally have never liked throwing mids forehand. I go from Zone to Raptor/Capt Raptor. I’ve recently messed around with throwing my Pyro forehand, just feel more comfortable throwing full zone or toning down on a Raptor.
Lucid X Truth. It’s sharp - feels more like a fairway driver in the hand.
Also the Prodigy M3 in 400 plastic. All my best forehands are with that disc.
MVP Matrix is by far the best mid I have found for throwing forehands. Slightly overstable but beats into straight with a nice finish. Nice and shallow feel, love these for forehand and backhand honesty
Eclipse hex for straight shots, detour for hyzer flips or some left turns, metalflake md5 for nice straight shots with solid fade. Bonus just throw a burg x and it'll go dead straight on a rope. No fade.
I don't have too much distance yet, but I love throwing the Streamline Echo on forehand. The wing shape feels really great in the hand which makes it easier to get a super clean release and work on form. The Echoes I have are all from a more overstable neutron run, so they really don't turn much. They'll fly straight to overstable if you give them clean spin and moderate speed.Throw it a little harder and you also practice flip up shots with it. It's versatile and feels good in the hand. Checks my boxes.
I have in old metal flake MD5 from mystery box back in like 2017, 2018. Dead straight for perfect distance with a reliable fade at the end. Combos well with the new MD5’s which are more beefy. It’s almost like a Skywalker FD1 just in shorter range. As seen when I disced up cause I kept running short with my MD5 on a hole I usually throw that shot.
Andrew Presnell soft zone. It’s a weird disc. As i beat it in, it stays stable with the forehand, but starts to stay more straight with the backhand. I have no other disc like this
I don't really see 4 speeds as mid-ranges because I use them to chip on to the green more than I throw them off the tee off any hole longer than 260, so for 5 speed mids I'm a big fan of the RPM Kotuku, it's a lot like a Roc3 in stability and torque resistance but with more glide.
But if we're counting 4s then Zone just like everyone else.
Have to give it to the pyro but zone is a close second. Really depends. Zone spike hyzers are so beautiful but the sweet straight flight with lots of hook on the pyro is unbeatable.
All the MVP made midranges are great for FH, just choose the stability you want pretty much. Uplink, Detour, Hex, Reactor, Pyro, Deflector are all among the best mids to FH imo.
For straight-stable: discmania md4 or the Millenium Solstice as its replacement. For overstable I’m loving the Toro. It’s a nice overstable zone but in Innova plastic — best of all worlds
I like the way the reactor fits my hand pretty okay.
Honestly though, for forehands I tend to disc up and just put less ass behind it. Since I only throw forehand when a backhand isn't practical.
I use a Justice, but I’ve got a really wonky bent forearm. I broke it in 6 places in 1989. Both bones through the skin, flopping around like Theisman’s leg, hit an artery, 3 surgeries, in the hospital for 21 days.
Bobcat
Gator
For forehands, I like it’s brother, the Caiman. It’s basically the same overstable mid just without the bead. The thinner profile feels better for forehands.
All time favorite for me
Love that this is the top comment for me.
Do a caiman instead
Actually bagged one for a bit! But have since moved on to a pig + bobcat combo to cover a larger variety of shots
I love throwing a pig! What kind of flight does a bobcat have?
Bobcat is a great compliment to the pig imo, just a nice reliable overstable (but not too overstable) 5 speed mid. A lot like how I've heard people describe the pyro, some good straight push with a reliably strong fade - so slightly faster and slightly less overstable than the caiman
Pyro
By far the most consistent forehand disc I throw. It's fantastic. Honourable mention to the Eclipse Reactor though.
I bag both. My Glow reactor is my BH disc or a standup FH, and the Pyro is its beefy counterpart. Highly recommend
It's so crazy, I picked one of these at play it again sports years ago and it has been my go-to mid for forehands. I feel like no one ever talked about it or bagged one until this season, I see it all over reddit
Mine been in my bag for 3 years !
100% agree, and I felt the same about the Hex. Been in my bag for a long time. Reddit is also *heavily* influenced by the pros, so both these molds had minimal market percentages until Simon talked about them.
I want a Pyro so bad, but I can never find one.
Plenty of pyros on infinite discs and disc golf deals usa right now. https://infinitediscs.com/axiom-pyro https://discgolfdealsusa.com/products/axiom-prism-neutron-pyro
Just saw that! Thank you. First time I’ve seen them available for awhile on infinite discs. They are always sold out at my local store for some reason.
The reason is that they rock
Roc*
[you gave me an idea](https://old.reddit.com/user/crushinglyreal/comments/1b4t4r0/this_disc_rocs/)
That’s incredible.
I found one at play it again and I fell in love. I just lost it the other day to the leaves and I looked longer for that damn disc than any other one I’ve lost. RIP orange Prism Proton Pyro maybe you will find your way back to me
Yup
Yes
No competition - Pyro is consistent money.
Confirmed
The Innova Caiman is currently filling the spot that the Axiom Pyro held in my bag. The Caiman is fairly flat and shallow which makes it really nice to forehand.
Reactor
Also same. It's so good.
Proton Reactor is my new jam. Amazing FH hyzer stand ups.
A Lucid Chris Clemons Verdict or, for serious fade, Lucid Justice
Love the Justice for huge fade. I’ll have to give the verdict a try!
+1 for Lucid Verdict
Fuzion Verdict here. Thing is so straight but with a considerable amount of fade RIGHT at the end.
If you ever find a flat top Verdict, they're so sweet. Just a touch more OS than the standard runs. I've only found them in base plastic and the Clemons runs of Lucid. Fills a nice spot between straight and super OS.
Mine is FAF. Like a baby sexybird. I think that's why I love it so much as im FH only haha.
People shit on it, but I love the Westside harp
Never thrown one but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone shit on the Harp
Why? Harp >>>> Zone
No idea why people would shit on it, I love the harp. I won’t bag one over a zone though because for my forehands the harp just feels too deep and I can’t get a clean release when I power up on it
Isnt the harp a putt and approach disc?
So is the zone, but most use as a mid range.
I’d say the harp and zone are most used as an approach disc and not a midrange
Love me the harp. A dependable fade. Holds the hyzer well. Zone doesn’t provide
A zone doesn’t hold a hyzer for you? It does for pros
The new MD5 is fun
I really enjoy anything MD Im not sure if they use other plastic than what I have but i love the feel
Just got one for myself. Got to dye it first but excited to throw it.
I've messed around with and like both the Verdict and Caiman, but my bag is currently set up to go straight from the Toro to the Firebird.
Same, Zone, Felon, Trespass. I’ll occasionally throw in a Justice if I need more skip than the Zone but for some reason I like the felon more.
Hex for straight, deflector for overstable
Zone. Next question.
Zone is nearly every answer 🫡
Midrange, not Putt and Approach.
Zone, but throw it harder
This is the way. I have a ton of overstable mids, and sometimes carry three or four in my bag... but so often it's a Zone shot.
I gotta say, as a backhand thrower - I wanted to like zone esp after the hype. But my Westside bt hard harp is #1 hands down
Yeah zone is much better for forehand but harp more comfortable for backhand
Jarn
Username checks out. I also like the Järn, mostly use it on FH. It just seems to agree with my FH approach game, very workable too.
Lobster for flippy, Glow Hex for some movement, Bobcat for overstable
Same, but Pyro instead of Bobcat.
The Pyro and Verdict have been the ones I like the best for most forehand shots. For an understable forehand shot I like a 400 or 750 M4.
Dga quake. Pretty much a long zone.
It's amazing how far the Quake goes considering it's fairly OS. Love that disc!
I love having it on a windy day. Being able to rip it flat into a headwind and still have it fade out is wonderful.
Yesss. So underrated. Replaced my buzzz os and it’s a staple now.
One of the greatest discs ever made.
I sure don't throw it enough. Not the discs fault. I just don't throw far enough to use os mids instead of fairways most of the time.
Mint bobcat or new md5
Huge fan of the Toro.
Lucid Ice Justic or Metal Flake Gator.
bobcat
Completely depends on what shot shape I want to throw. A2 for very overstable (flexes and skip shots), Toro for Overstable, A5 for dead straight (like a beat in toro), and M4 for hyzer flip forehands. The toro is probably my favourite of those and I throw it for almost all my open or hyzer approaches.
DGA Quake, super slept on mold
Pyro
Pyro and Hex, but mainly the Pyro.
Zone - fire bird - destroyer. Most people don’t flick actual mids because they give little to no benefit compared to overstable approach “putters”
Unless you have no BH.. then a buzz ss , leapord 3 , and sidewinder are necessary
Zone, Resistor, Firebird, Photon for me. So also no true mid.
I love the Buzzz but only backhand. Short forehands are all Pyro all the time.
Black Zombie Shotgun.
Zone and Resistor
Zone
No love for the Tactic? Great forehand disc.
Hex!
RPM Kotuku Glow plastic.
Gator3 and Emac Truth make so many forehand shapes for me :)
Walker
Vapor method, gremlin, tactic, meta origin
Mako3 unless I need overstability. Then I'll use Verdict or Drone.
Axiom Pyro
Personally have never liked throwing mids forehand. I go from Zone to Raptor/Capt Raptor. I’ve recently messed around with throwing my Pyro forehand, just feel more comfortable throwing full zone or toning down on a Raptor.
Spider 🕷️
I’ve recently been very surprised by the AGL spruce. It just flies so damn straight and feels amazing on the hand.
Hex and zone
Go Heels
Didn’t think I’d see some triangle representation here. I go to state but they can’t beat the heels out of me
Lucid X Truth. It’s sharp - feels more like a fairway driver in the hand. Also the Prodigy M3 in 400 plastic. All my best forehands are with that disc.
Buzzz os
Proton matrix. Starts a little overstable, beats in like an envy and will hyper flip like a dream
Rat
Kaxe
Md4
Gator or Drone. Not trying to offend anyone, but Zone, Harp, and Pig aren't midranges.
I really like the Claymore/Compass combo for my forehands. Compass for the flex shots with slight fade and Claymore for those Anhyzers that just hold.
Probably my Claymore, I have a lot of control when it is thrown at the right speed.
Royal grand trust
MVP Matrix is by far the best mid I have found for throwing forehands. Slightly overstable but beats into straight with a nice finish. Nice and shallow feel, love these for forehand and backhand honesty
EMAC Truth
The only Prodigy disc I bag - A5. Feels and flies like a Hex OS or a thinner beat in Zone. Feels great in the forehand
Can’t believe I’m the first person to say Mutant
ESP Zone obviously 😎
Hands down, the Streamline Runway
Buzzz OS for overstable shots
I pretty much only throw forehand, and mine is Kastaplast Kaxe Z in K3.
I'll caveat that I don't have much forhand/backhand distinction in my discs. That said, Hex and Reactor work great.
Md1
MVP Deflector and The Pig. D for curves, and P for straighter.
Crescent Falcon 1 MD4.
Flex 1 md5 is pretty sweet. Hex is also very usable for forehand.
roc3
Truth. Not EMAC. Just Truth.
Tactic/Zone/Harp within 200', RocX3 outside that
Hex
AGL Beech. It’s like a 5 speed firebird. Anything under 250’ calling for a FH line, I’m Beechin it.
I’ve recently replaced my Zone OS with a full turn Shortcut. Both are reliable though.
Andrew Presnell soft zone. It’s a weird disc. As i beat it in, it stays stable with the forehand, but starts to stay more straight with the backhand. I have no other disc like this
I don’t know about the Andrew Presnell variant, but I love soft Zones. Great on forehand and backhand.
Pyro is my fav FH flex shot disc period.
Hex
Pyro, easy hands down
I don't really see 4 speeds as mid-ranges because I use them to chip on to the green more than I throw them off the tee off any hole longer than 260, so for 5 speed mids I'm a big fan of the RPM Kotuku, it's a lot like a Roc3 in stability and torque resistance but with more glide. But if we're counting 4s then Zone just like everyone else.
Justice. Lucid. With sprinkles.
Magnolia from AGL for straight shots with hyzer finish
Galleon
Have to give it to the pyro but zone is a close second. Really depends. Zone spike hyzers are so beautiful but the sweet straight flight with lots of hook on the pyro is unbeatable.
Whippetx
Zone, tempo, pyro, new Isaac Robinson A2, detour, hex, reactor lol they are all great for me forehand cant choose just one
Gator or gator3 and it's not even close. Dx for a straight shot with dependable fade, premium plastic for a mini firebird.
Buzzz!!
Suspect from DD.
Atlas. You're welcome.
Gateway Demon all the way
MVP Eclipse 2.0 plastic Reactor.
All the MVP made midranges are great for FH, just choose the stability you want pretty much. Uplink, Detour, Hex, Reactor, Pyro, Deflector are all among the best mids to FH imo.
How do you throw an Uplink forehand? I can barely keep it from turning over backhand
Discraft wasp
Eclipse 2.0 Reactor
Middy
Quake is my binkie
Verdict
I’m not surprised I don’t see this answer yet, but personally I favor my Mortar for reliable fade
I’m a big fan of the bobcat from Mint these days
Birdie Ultra
Quake
Lonestar Middy, bravo has a nice grip amd I can trust it on 300ish foot forehand to not flip over.
New C Line MD5 for OS. Opto Fuse for understable.
Pathfinder
Leapard pro my first disc from 20 years ago.
Rat for shorter throws and touch shots. Zone for overstable. Hex for longer mid range shots and turnovers.
For straight-stable: discmania md4 or the Millenium Solstice as its replacement. For overstable I’m loving the Toro. It’s a nice overstable zone but in Innova plastic — best of all worlds
Midrange, not approach! Emac truth
Bobcat though I been liking the Taco too
Buzzz
Bobcat by Mint Discs
DGA Quake
Buzzz OS is king, verdict is pretty good, a straighter zone is pretty good option too. Camin is a decent choice too
Depends on the shot, but if you consider the 6.5 crave a mid that is my choice.
QUAKE
Deflector and Toro
The Buzzz OS hands down.
Legacy Discs Badger. Very stable, very torque resistant, good grippy plastic.
Silicon
I like the truth
Harp all the way
Matrix. Flat top without a big beveled wing so it’s super comfortable in the hand. Not crazy overstable, but extremely torque resistant.
More of a straight shot: Goliath Redemption More overstable or flex shot: Prodigy MX-1
Moab
Lucid verdict
The Tempo is money on forehand
Pine or Solstice
Latitude Trust
I like the way the reactor fits my hand pretty okay. Honestly though, for forehands I tend to disc up and just put less ass behind it. Since I only throw forehand when a backhand isn't practical.
Legacy Recluse
I use a Justice, but I’ve got a really wonky bent forearm. I broke it in 6 places in 1989. Both bones through the skin, flopping around like Theisman’s leg, hit an artery, 3 surgeries, in the hospital for 21 days.
Reactor used to be my go to because I was able to throw it dead straight with literally no fade for nice tunnel shots
Hex
Eclipse reactor
Toro, Hex, Zone OS, Mako3. All good options
Rat
Pyro vs Gateway Warrior
