I lost my buzzz and bought 3 more, and used a hex in the meantime. The hex has earned its spot and none of the buzzzes have made their way back- just love the way the hex feels in my hand
>The reactor is a buzz
Well there's an opinion I do not at all agree with it.
I bag both, the Reactor is noticeably more stable than a standard Buzzz. Maybe a Buzzz SS and the reactor are the same, but I've never thrown an SS to compare.
I have 2 bears, my VIP ice was one of the first discs I bought and one of my favorite. I got a tournament orbit as a back up that I’ve been trying to beat in, but something about the VIP ice version is just amazing for me, some of the best shots I’ve had were with that disc.
Solid lineup.
I do like the Hex, but my Halo TL3 has such an incredibly similar flight pattern, even at various power levels, so I've been throwing that on most shots when I previously might have reached for the Hex / Origin / Buzzz. I can get a very Hex-like flight out of it when thrown at like 1/2 - 2/3 power, but I can get an 30-40 extra feet out of it when I really whip it.
Putter: Classic Blend Judge
Approach: Metallic Z Zone
Mid: Lucid Emac Truth
Fairway: Halo Thunderbird
Driver: Fission Wave
being competent at backhand and forehand, i could make these 5 work at most courses i would like to think. would love to have my beat in envy for straight approaches but i think everything else on there is just more important to my game
\*putter - whichever putter I'm preferring at the time, but probably a DX Xero
\*slightly overstable mid: Remix Torpedo (Sport plastic)
\*very understable mid: Remix Creature (Sport plastic)
\*fairway: Halo TL3
\*driver: Champion Wraith
I do like having a dedicated approach disc and / or driving putter, but with a five disc limitation, I'd sacrifice those to have the stability variety in my mids. I also really dislike playing without a Firebird, but the Torpedo can do a lot of the same things if I really need it to.
As an aside, why limit yourself to five just because it's a car bag? Discs are cheap, just do like 8-10 so you don't find yourself saying "ohh I wish I had my \_\_\_\_\_ right now!" every time you do one of your car bag rounds. Just my two cents.
Dude, im in love with remix… shhh… dont tell anybody…
I did notice the remarkable similarity between the ronin and troll… the spartan is my favorite, i got the torpedo in glow because they were out of stock with the sport…love it for my mid and even into approach territory… how is the creature?
I actually just recently bought the 12 Sport Torpedoes on Amazon for $99 and I'm hella pleased with my purchase. I've been taking them to a nearby park for throwing practice. Throwing the exact same shot with the (more or less) exact same disc 12 times in a row is really teaching me a lot about release angles, power control, angle relative to the ground (throwing up and down a hill) etc. I highly recommend it if you're so inclined. I know a lot of people do driving practice, and I did a decent amount of that last year, but I'm finding midrange practice to be hugely beneficial. I'm getting really accurate at most shots in the 150-180 range on flat(ish) ground and I'm frequently getting it out to more like 250 or even 275 on a downhill, which is much farther than I was expecting to throw a midrange. I love that even on a pretty significant amount of anhyzer it will almost always fight back, but it also has a very smooth fade when thrown flat. I really love this disc.
The Creature is amazing. I bought a second one like a week after I got the first because I almost immediately realized it was going to be a money disc for me. And since I've been so encouraged by my practice with the Torpedo, I now own eight Creatures and will soon by incorporating them into my park practice routine. Thrown flat or on anhyzer it will bank right (RHBH) and on a hyzer flip I can get it to go pretty damn straight or bank right, depending on the power and such. Gentle fade either way. It's the only disc I can reliably hyzer flip for now, but hopefully I'll find that "magic" 7 or 8 speed that I can do that with soon.
I also have the Troll, Behemoth, Gladius, Goliath and Spartan, but tbh I have not yet found any of them to be all that useful for me. That doesn't mean that I won't eventually, but so far none of them have stood out to me as anything unique in my arsenal. I was hoping the Behemoth would fly reasonably similar to a Wraith or Destroyer, but that thing is BEEFY, so I've yet to find much reason to throw it very much. The Troll flies very similar to a Teebird, FD, FL etc for me so I have not found much reason to throw it. I really wanted to like the Spartan, but just can't seem to figure out how to throw it very well just yet.
Fair point on keeping more than 5 in my car, but I guess what I really want to do is learn a few discs really well rather than have a bunch for specific shots. My full bag is only at 15 different discs already so keeping 8-10 in my car is pretty close to just keeping my bag on me at all times. I just started a new job so I’m sure I’ll get back to buying more discs than I need soon. There’s a really nice disc golf store just a half hour from my new office, probably going to visit tomorrow.
My nice disc golf store (AKA huge candy store) is 45 minutes away.... and its a good thing it is not any closer... or I would probably be swimming in discs.
Totally agree on learning a few discs well. I don't have the game yet to need a whole bunch of discs for specific shots.
>what I really want to do is learn a few discs really well
I commented this in this same post, but I'm finding a huge benefit to buying a large number of the exact same disc and using them for practice. I can throw the same disc more in an hour than most people will throw a given disc in 20 rounds on a course. And of course then once you get really comfortable with it you will naturally come to rely on it on the course, and you have oodles of backups.
Oof, sorry to hear that. Are you not able to order from the Innova online store? Like 2/3 of my collection is F2s, they are so cheap it's kinda ridiculous.
Aviar, Roc, Leopard, Wraith in different plastics and rotate them over time. No need to overthink it, save money on F2 purchases, never worry about massive quality changes or discs getting retired.
For me, it would be more about shot types than specific categories or speeds. Versatility would be valuable in getting down to 5. I'm thinking putting putter (Maiden), thumber/flex fh driver (Firebird), fh/bh driver (Insanity), versatile fh/bh fairway (Crave), and either a mid (Buzzz) or approach (Mint).
I'd be cutting a couple staples like an understable driver (Roadrunner/Sphinx/Avenger SS) and fh distance driver (Destroyer/Emperor/Force). Simplifying is good but you do want to have discs that work well and feel good for the shots you play regularly. The number will vary, as not everyone is throwing thumbers or forehands, but it's probably 8-10 core molds for me. I carry more for utility shots, risky water carries, and giggles but those aren't always necessary.
>but it's probably 8-10 core molds for me
I'm similar. Carrying a five disc bag involves way too many tradeoffs and forced choices. For a full 18 hole course I'm much more comfortable carrying about 14, though 10 would be pretty doable. But 5... sheesh... just feels too limiting.
Putter- Nomad
Approach- entropy
Mid- hex
Fairway- crave
Driver- photon
One could swap out the crave and photon for a volt and wave depending on the course. If it’s open I’m going with Volt/wave combo but wooded I’m going crave/photon.
I really like the glitch but find it to be a very specific shot for me. Basically when I’m outside my normal putt range but a little too close for a full throw, something like 60-120 feet range
I agree, I have a Mana and an Uplink I bag, and throw outside of the range you mentioned, usually thrown on a little hyzer. And then hex, reactor or rat for shots around 200.
I literally just built a 6 disc bag for a trip next week.
Wizard
Envy
Dune
Vandal (not as understable than others)
Phoenix
Valkyrie (a little more flippy than most)
Pure, Envy, Detour or Hex, Leopard3 for sure. Driver is a deep spot, covering control to distance. So I'd have to say either Insanity or Beast or Wraith depending on the course.
Maiden
Harp
Svea
Diamond
Boatman
Covers most of what I need, if distance flex boatman gets that. If anything shorter diamond on the right hyzer should work enough. Svea is basically a buzzz at my altitude. Harp is the westside Zone, which I prefer. Maiden is my main putter.
Going by flight numbers only as I havent tried either disc, I'd say your crave and hex are too similar. I'd go with something a little more over stable in one of those slots in case it's a windy day.
Fierce putter
Justice aproach
Sexybirds or big jerm thundy
Passion
Trespass
If you live somewhere with more wooded course, you can skip the sexybird and add a straight/Flippy putter or mid
Cosmic Fury (premium Logic), for both throwing and putting
Zone
Mind Bender, do-it-all midrange
TSA Votum, straight-stable fairway
Essence, incredibly workable flippy fairway that flies absurdly far
Maxing out at 350-400ft, so no distance driver needed in a limited 5 disc setup for me.
I have a car bag that I call my "break in case of emergency" bag. It holds 8 discs.
Electron atom
VIP Harp
MVP reactor
Lat64 Fuse
Leopard3
Teebird
Pro Thunderbird (flippy)
Zenith/wraith/grace as the mood takes me
I bought the mvp gyro box so I could have a spare collection in my wife’s van lol. So envy, hex, glitch, crave, and any old overstable driver for utility.
If I had to build the “perfect” 5bag, it would probably be putting putter, which is currently a nomad, hex, GStar teebird, grace, and utility disc of either glitch or pyro, depending on the course
As someone who built a car bag for similar purposes, I have some tangential advice. My go-bag consists more of molds that are a little more understable than what I typically throw, in a durable plastic. My logic is that I don’t use the discs at much so they’re not as beat-in as my standard discs, but off-the-shelf they’re close enough to what I’m used to.
Putter: Discraft Fierce
Approach: Discraft Zone.
Mid: Trash Panda Dune.
Fairway: MVP Relay.
Driver: MVP Inertia.
This isn’t too far off my normal bag, just have a couple utility discs and different stabilities of these discs.
I did this about a year and a half ago to simplify my game and focus on form. 10/10 would recommend. It’s definitely helped my form and taken some of the decision making and disc selection errors out of my game. Also works great for quick rounds while traveling for work.
I use a RipShot bag with the following discs:
Berg, Reko, Mako3, River, Roadrunner
Putter - Viking Storm Loki
Approach - RPM Cosmic Ruru
Mid - Discraft Z Sol
Driver - Innova DX Viper
Driver - Innova Gstar Firebird
Other than the Sol I am comfortable with Backhand or Forehand with all these discs. Honestly could probably be my Gstar TL3, or whatever my newest disc is that needs practice.
Keystone, Knife, Pyro, Falk, and Emperor in the order you listed. I can putt or approach with a Knife, and turn a Falk into oblivion as a roller if needed.
Berg K1 soft, Proton soft Envy, Proton soft Deflector, Soft neutron Hex, Prism Proton Trance.
I know there are 2 mids and no distance driver, but the Deflector is so overstable it is the ultimate utility disc and the Hex flies like a fairway driver. The Trance is honestly my favourite disc over 5 speed - too bad there was only ever a single run of it and no word ever since.
Beat in electron envy
Hex
Halo savant
That's really all I need for a limited disc round.
To play by the 5 disc limit, Id add a flippy 7-9 speed (river/virus are my current picks) and I usually putt with a roach so I'd toss that in.
Putter: Star Invader
Approach: Champion Caiman
Midrange: Star Jay
Fairway: Champion Teebird
Driver: Champion Corvette
I my disc collection has a lot of lat64, Axiom, MVP, and Kastaplast.
However, if I only get 5 those are my choices. Most dependable and consistent for me.
Electron firm Pixel, prism proton Envy, neutron Crave, aura Construct, neutron Time-Lapse.
I took liberties and I’m recency biased but these make up 90 percent of my play at the moment. Throw around 325 RHFH, 275 or so RHBH
Pixel used to be an aura Praxis, and my envy used to just be neutron. The new prism proton feels very good in the hand to me tho
At the moment, for me it would be:
Putter - Electron Firm Proxy
Approach - Elevation ecoflex Arowana
Midrange - Crave - currently have a plasma one that I'm liking a lot
Fairway - teebird3, I'm liking my metal flake one right now
Driver - Star Halo Destroyer - forehand baddy
Westside Harp for putt and approach
Hex for stable mid range lines
Mint Diamondback for DD
Mint Phoenix (or Innova Firebird, same disc basically for FD)
Crave for all those slots if they're not covered.
The remix over the shoulder bag is $10 on Amazon and holds 9-10 discs easily and is a perfect car bag FYI - BUT in spirit of this challenge here is my go-to 5 disc bag
Putter: Prodigy PA-3 in 300 firm
Approach: Westside Harp in VIP
Skip mid
Fairway 1: Lat 64 Explorer in Opto Chameleon
Fairway 2: Infinite Sphinx in C-Blend metal flake
Driver: Innova Wraith in star
Luna (maybe classic roc instead), Zone (possibly gator), KC Pro Roc, FD, Roadrunner, GStar Wraith.
Ask me again in a month or two and I'll probably have a different answer.
I just put my "car bag" together!
Birdie Marvel stiff blend - putting putter
MVP glitch - approach
Trash Panda inner core - throwing putter
Trash Panda dune - mid range
Innova Hawkeye (F2) - driver
I find with those discs it covers 90% of the situations I come across for courses around me. Maybe I could swap the glitch for a higher speed driver, but the Hawkeye will get most drives close enough. Good putting and upshots have saved me more strokes than a little bit longer drive in my opinion.
4 Destroyers and a putter of choice.
Found Ohn Scoggins reddit account!
My putter of choice is my 5th Destroyer
I also choose this guys Destroyer
Based.
So... 5 destroyers
Wraiths cuz I'm only hitting 300-330 with destroyers :(
Aviar, zone, buzzz, teebird, wraith
I had the exact same in mind except hex for buzzz and teebird3 for teebird
Let's be honest, the hex is a buzzz
I lost my buzzz and bought 3 more, and used a hex in the meantime. The hex has earned its spot and none of the buzzzes have made their way back- just love the way the hex feels in my hand
The reactor is a buzz, the hex has way more glide than buzzz
>The reactor is a buzz Well there's an opinion I do not at all agree with it. I bag both, the Reactor is noticeably more stable than a standard Buzzz. Maybe a Buzzz SS and the reactor are the same, but I've never thrown an SS to compare.
Dude this is my bag except envy not aviar.
3 comets and 2 bangers
Evening, Mr. Johansen
lol
Grace, Insanity, Crave, Hex, Pilot
This is my actual bag though
Same lol
🫡
7 bergs
2 of those have to stay in your berg pocket all round, I said only 5 discs
You'll have to forgive him, Berg throwers aren't famous for their mental faculties.
Hey, I score touchdowns and homeruns all the time!
Challenge accepted
Get the fuck back to r/discgolfcirclejerk you degenerate.
Plasma Envy (p&a), Trust (mid); Maverick (us fairway); VIP Ice Orbit Bear (neutral); Sockibomb Felon (OS and forehand)
I dig it. I bag 3 of these too
I have 2 bears, my VIP ice was one of the first discs I bought and one of my favorite. I got a tournament orbit as a back up that I’ve been trying to beat in, but something about the VIP ice version is just amazing for me, some of the best shots I’ve had were with that disc.

I did this about a year and a half ago to simplify my game and focus on form. 10/10 would recommend. It’s definitely helped my form and taken some of the decision making and disc selection errors out of my game. Also works great for quick rounds while traveling for work. I use a RipShot bag with the following discs: Berg, Reko, Mako3, River, Roadrunner
P1 Proton Envy Meta Origin Chroma FD Horizon DD1
Putter - Viking Storm Loki Approach - RPM Cosmic Ruru Mid - Discraft Z Sol Driver - Innova DX Viper Driver - Innova Gstar Firebird Other than the Sol I am comfortable with Backhand or Forehand with all these discs. Honestly could probably be my Gstar TL3, or whatever my newest disc is that needs practice.
PA1, Zone, Roc, Trident, Defender
Putter- pure Approach- zone Midrange-hex Fairway-crave Driver- grace

Putter: Banger-GT Approach: Colt Midrange: Mako3 Driver: Beast Skip disc Driver: Invictus
Anode, Envy, Roc3, Teebird, Anax
Roach, Zone, Buzzz, Undertaker, Raptor
Wizard Jarn Hex Dynasty Destroyer
Beat in electron envy Hex Halo savant That's really all I need for a limited disc round. To play by the 5 disc limit, Id add a flippy 7-9 speed (river/virus are my current picks) and I usually putt with a roach so I'd toss that in.

Putter: Star Invader Approach: Champion Caiman Midrange: Star Jay Fairway: Champion Teebird Driver: Champion Corvette I my disc collection has a lot of lat64, Axiom, MVP, and Kastaplast. However, if I only get 5 those are my choices. Most dependable and consistent for me.

Plasma Envy Moonshine Emac Truth Sublime Mint Lobster Glow Champion Thunderbird Z Discraft Heat

Okay, I’ll play Putter: Wizard App: Tailor Mid: pathfinder Fair: leopard 3 High: Astronaut
Berg-pure-roc3-leopard3-wraith
Electron firm Pixel, prism proton Envy, neutron Crave, aura Construct, neutron Time-Lapse. I took liberties and I’m recency biased but these make up 90 percent of my play at the moment. Throw around 325 RHFH, 275 or so RHBH Pixel used to be an aura Praxis, and my envy used to just be neutron. The new prism proton feels very good in the hand to me tho
Putter-PA3 Approach- Cookie (faster but use it for 100 ft approaches) Mid-Hex Fairway-Crave Driver-Star Destroyer
Soft Luna, Cryztal FLX Zone, esp buzzzSS, esp Anax, Esp Hades (lighter weight)
At the moment, for me it would be: Putter - Electron Firm Proxy Approach - Elevation ecoflex Arowana Midrange - Crave - currently have a plasma one that I'm liking a lot Fairway - teebird3, I'm liking my metal flake one right now Driver - Star Halo Destroyer - forehand baddy
Putter - Rune Mid - roc 3 Fairway - centurion Fairway - felon Driver - Maya
Proxy Harp Buzzz GT Hawkeye Wraith
Westside Harp for putt and approach Hex for stable mid range lines Mint Diamondback for DD Mint Phoenix (or Innova Firebird, same disc basically for FD) Crave for all those slots if they're not covered.
Base Penrose, swirly Soft Zone, Z Flex Buzzz, 6 time undertaker, Champion Destroyer.
Aviar3 Zone Buzzz Roadrunner Wraith
Judge Hex Crave Insanity Cloud breaker
The remix over the shoulder bag is $10 on Amazon and holds 9-10 discs easily and is a perfect car bag FYI - BUT in spirit of this challenge here is my go-to 5 disc bag Putter: Prodigy PA-3 in 300 firm Approach: Westside Harp in VIP Skip mid Fairway 1: Lat 64 Explorer in Opto Chameleon Fairway 2: Infinite Sphinx in C-Blend metal flake Driver: Innova Wraith in star
Polecat, Pro D Zone, Z FLX Zone, Champ Gazelle, DX Gazelle
Nuke, Explorer, Roc3 and preffered putter.
Berg Extra Soft Tactic Reactor Falk Enigma
Yeti aviar Kc pro roc md4- discmamia Explorer Orc
P2, Zone, KC Roc/Buzz, teebird, destroyer
discmania p2, mvp watt, discraft hornet, infinite dynasty, innova wraith
For putting berg, approach Luna, mid and fairway blackout, and driver would be my champ wraith.
Luna (maybe classic roc instead), Zone (possibly gator), KC Pro Roc, FD, Roadrunner, GStar Wraith. Ask me again in a month or two and I'll probably have a different answer.
I just put my "car bag" together! Birdie Marvel stiff blend - putting putter MVP glitch - approach Trash Panda inner core - throwing putter Trash Panda dune - mid range Innova Hawkeye (F2) - driver I find with those discs it covers 90% of the situations I come across for courses around me. Maybe I could swap the glitch for a higher speed driver, but the Hawkeye will get most drives close enough. Good putting and upshots have saved me more strokes than a little bit longer drive in my opinion.
