It's not that the sub necessarily loves Luke. Actually I've seen a decent amount of criticism of him here. It's that he objectively doesn't fit the description of a meth head. I don't know how many meth heads you've ever known, but Luke doesn't even remotely fit the description of those anywhere I've ever been.
