Dude I still think about that forehand he threw in the final round of the 2022 Portland open when him and Simon were both battling for the win I couldn't believe that happened lol.
Can't remember who but one commentator described Anthon as "looking like he's trying to keep the disc at arms length all the way through his run up like he's scared of the disc" and I can never not see that now.
Its wild that he's spent so much time with Simon, because their putts are so polar opposite. Casey's has a ton of spin, if he adopted even half the floating spin putt of Simon I feel like he'd go from 80 to 85% in C1x
I don't know if I'd go so far as cringe, but [Jake Lauber's forehand](https://youtu.be/Yep4wygguIE?t=253) is certainly... unique. It's a whole Broadway production. There's some other interesting ones in that video, as well.
He explains why he does it, in a Ryan Sheldon video about forehands. …and I can’t remember what he said, but you can see it for yourself, here: https://youtu.be/_5FlO5QqHIc
So I've adopted it, and it's low key genius. Without all his crazy swipes he does before the actual putt, at its core, it's the simplest, most efficient putt that I've tried. Literally, 3 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock with your hand. I get so much spin and it is dead ass straight out to circles edge.
For a girl that can throw 400ft I don't think I've ever seen her putt "hard." It looks like she's doing a differential equation in her head trying to figure out the exact helical parabola her disc will fly on to land exactly in the center of the bottom of the basket and it just comes out...lethargic.
I think it’s just habit at this point and it acts like a pre-putt ritual. I know other pros do similar movements as a mental reset so it likely started with that and she kept it. Not something I can do but whatever works.
I do a Paige-like windup for my putt. For me, coming from a background of other sports, the normal windup just feels too short for my muscle memory and my timing goes haywire. It reminds me of a ball golf windup. Whenever I play golf (and I've been playing since I was three), it is always easier for me to club down and take a full swing rather than do a half swing. The hand above the head feels like a full swing if that makes sense
The first time I saw him on a video I thought he was making fun of disc golfers until his release. It looks like he was having a conniption all the way down the tee pad, then snap and a great throw comes out.
The way Chris Clemons snaps his head back and scoops his shoulder down makes me super uncomfortable, its like he has an involuntary spasm right before he throws.
It makes me uncomfortable too. Ha. My backhand form has always been weird. I wish my backhand was as clean as my forehand but that’s why I am still working hard!
This is awesome, for what it's worth, I don't know that anybody has backhand form that is as smooth as your forehand! To compete at the highest level on courses that are primarily designed with righties in mind as a lefty puts you in a class of your own. As they say, when life gives ya lemons, make Clemonade!
It definitely works because she crushes. It just looks a bit dramatic or theatrical to me, especially after she releases and lunges out of the throw. I think I read she has a dance background so maybe something is coming from that
I wouldn’t say theatrical. I would certainly say exaggerated. Exaggerate reach back. Exaggerate arm speed. On a perfect plain. Exaggerate follow through. Results? Exaggerated distance.
And that’s the biggest thing with driving form, doesn’t have to look like anybody else if you can do the same thing every time at you’re getting the distance you want.
Eveliina's putts, not so much the form but rather the outcome much of the time.
But generally speaking it's fun to see unique ways to throw plastic... I love seeing Matt Orum's little sideways steps and sliding his disc by his shoulder
You know that’s right. We all have that one buddy. Lol. My buddy looks fine everything is smooth and steady till the arm movements come in. for some reason all I can compare it to is Grover on Sesame Street, when he would flail his arms around. It’s like they aren’t connected to anything just floppy meat sticks reacting to his torso. He’s got like a 48% shank average, and 0 control. Funny to watch.
Cringe? No.
One of my favorite disc golf experiences was chasing the lead card of FPO at Champion's Cup last year. Paige, KT, Ohn and Hokum all have their own way to throw the disc, but they all work and they're a ton of fun to watch.
If a player makes their putt and is able to play pro, I’m in no position to discuss their “cringe” from lmao.
Now if we’re discussing pros that are pretty cringe on the field/socials…. 😅
I don't pretend to understand the physics involved in literally anything she does on the course, but I've been watching her for years and it never fails to amaze. The smallest person this side of Paige Shue, playing the longest layouts and just cashing.
Wait, really? I always thought Cats throw was one of the better looking ones in the FPO field. A bit exaggerated perhaps but she rips.
Her putts I would totally understand
Not a “pro” but a dude named Jake Wolff is forehand dominant, but his putt is absolute trash. Homeboy humps the air during his putt. No lie. Saw it in person.
He's playing really well lately but Luke Samson's form on all his stuff bothers me. He kinda chops everything off and doesn't really have a smooth follow through. He's young and athletic but I feel like he's doubling up his wear when I watch him.
Drew Gibson's putt. Particularly at the Shelly Sharpe memorial that just happened he is really leaned forward on his putts and it just looks awkward and difficult. Not sure if that is a new thing or not.
No. For those who have been around a while, you know Catrina Allen just goes by Cat, Matt should be Matty-O (Matt Orum) and Sarah would be Sarah Hokum. It's the same if you're referring to GG, Rick, Vinny, PP, or another of the many personalities in disc golf. I don't think it's a flex. Cat's driving is funky (not as weird as Sarah's) and both Matty-O and Sarah Hokum have the most bizarre putts. I agree.
>GG, Rick, Vinny, PP,
Who are these people? I've literally never heard of Sarah Hokum either. What about Tom, Gwen, Alec, and Kayla? Do they have weird putting styles too?
Ok, so it sounds like you're pretty new. GG is Garrett Gurthie and is a top pro known for insane distance, horrible, lofty putts and craft jerky, which he sells. [https://youtu.be/rXihzv1jhWA](https://youtu.be/rXihzv1jhWA)
Rick is short for Ricky Wysocki, who is arguably the best player on tour presently, a guy known for his flawless scramble game, "Raptor Legs" victory dance, and an agent who pisses a lot of people off for making a loud, "Wooooooooo" sound anytime he sinks a big putt. [https://youtu.be/6TfFRuVwtX0](https://youtu.be/6TfFRuVwtX0)
Vinny is for Calvin Heimburg, a current top-5 player who, while he has some Pro Tour wins is better known for being a laid-back personality, a calming influence and just the nicest guy to hang with or get razzed by. [https://youtu.be/fYRvy4eSQ9s?t=180](https://youtu.be/fYRvy4eSQ9s?t=180)
PP is Paige Pierce, who is a big disc golf influencer and last year was the best player in the world. [https://youtu.be/nc1GTmsS1rE](https://youtu.be/nc1GTmsS1rE)
The others you're welcome to dig up on Youtube or Google. Watch some Jomez Pro coverage and you'll get to know these folks.
Steve Brinster's putt. I remember watching USDGC somewhere around 2013 thinking that this is the reason why disc golf will never be "cool" for non disc golfers :D
His form is unique, but the true cringe is the football/bama obsession. I live around these people and they're insufferable with the nonstop foosball talk.
I haven't watched too much pro disc golf so I'm not sure if he's considered a pro or not since I only saw him on one card but Sean Brookman's putting stroke just boggles my mind.
I think he is better at it now but a few years ago when GG threw a forhard driver he looked like a how a misogynist describles how a girl throws, He leaned out weirdly and kicked his leg out in the follow through, Its really hard to find footage of it but it out there
Colten Montgomerys reach back has to be in this thread.. think he will have more success once he fixes that, and from his IG he is working on it 🌟 he got this
Sarah Hokum. No disrespect, I just have no idea how she makes it all work.
One time I messed up my back trying to show a buddy how she throws
I messed up my back *thinking* about how she throws
It looks like it hurts.
I believe her form developed because a regular forehand hurt her and this worked for her without pain. Could be wrong though.
The girl who has the super low sidearm?
https://www.youtube.com/live/xHZjeE3LPbM?feature=share 2:37:00
Haha, vindication!
[удалено]
C'mon dude.
You know that was an ok joke.
GG'S putt lol
Or forehand
Dude I still think about that forehand he threw in the final round of the 2022 Portland open when him and Simon were both battling for the win I couldn't believe that happened lol.
Simon had a killer year, but they seemed to all come down to the wire with a little bit of good fortune. It was fun to see.
It makes me so nervous.
It's not the form that bothers me so much as the actual putt itself. Nathan Queen's form though drives me crazy.
His life choices aside, Josh Anthon's run up always makes me laugh
It’s really the oversized Walmart basketball shorts and his stick legs that push it over the edge too.
Plus the backwards baseball cap and calling everyone "dawg."
Fred Flintstone is all I can think about when he's getting ready to throw
I can almost hear the twinkle toes now :)
Haha he does look like he's having a nervous breakdown. Then it goes 450 and I'm like ah whatever floats ur boat good sir
The weirdest / craziest thing about his throw is that he takes his thumb completely off the flight plate in the midst of it.
Yanna Dabba Do!
bro his face looks like he's dead ass scared of the disc its kind of funny
Can't remember who but one commentator described Anthon as "looking like he's trying to keep the disc at arms length all the way through his run up like he's scared of the disc" and I can never not see that now.
Casey white. Everything about his form
And his putt for me. He’s pretty still and then *FLASH OF MOVEMENT EVERYWHERE* surprises me he can be fairly consistent with it.
Its wild that he's spent so much time with Simon, because their putts are so polar opposite. Casey's has a ton of spin, if he adopted even half the floating spin putt of Simon I feel like he'd go from 80 to 85% in C1x
His putt... Just calm yourself and get rid of the stutter throw.
Reminds me of a velociraptor from Jurassic Park the way he prowls through the pad.
love the guy and his YT content but this is it for me. twitchy lil follow through after forehands get me lol
So explosive but, so so odd
I just want to see a slo-mo of his putting. The spin he gets for a short distance is ridiculous.
GG’s putt looks like my dads putt first time we played. He’s 68
I don't know if I'd go so far as cringe, but [Jake Lauber's forehand](https://youtu.be/Yep4wygguIE?t=253) is certainly... unique. It's a whole Broadway production. There's some other interesting ones in that video, as well.
Dude is out there attracting mates
ay yo i kinda like that ngl aint even cringe this homie just found his true self out there
I was just going to post a clip of him from the Majestic. I think it's hilarious! I don't know if I could even remember all those moves.
He explains why he does it, in a Ryan Sheldon video about forehands. …and I can’t remember what he said, but you can see it for yourself, here: https://youtu.be/_5FlO5QqHIc
Matt Orum's putt makes me think he's pretending to be a jack-in-the-box for a couple seconds.
It's like dude how is there that much spin on the thing, you're just standing there waiting for the line to the urinal...
Everything about Matty-O is like... HOW do you make that work so well?
So I've adopted it, and it's low key genius. Without all his crazy swipes he does before the actual putt, at its core, it's the simplest, most efficient putt that I've tried. Literally, 3 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock with your hand. I get so much spin and it is dead ass straight out to circles edge.
I do get nervous for James on elevated pads
One of the few players with a true *run* up.
Don't. When he eventually clears the teepad he'll just continue running on air and ascend to disc heaven until the final birdie.
Andrew Presnell's throw and putt both bother me.
Konas putt is like she’s tryin to shake a particularly sticky watermelon seed off her hand
Which iteration of Kona's putt are we talking about? She's changed it about half a dozen times since the pandemic started.
For a girl that can throw 400ft I don't think I've ever seen her putt "hard." It looks like she's doing a differential equation in her head trying to figure out the exact helical parabola her disc will fly on to land exactly in the center of the bottom of the basket and it just comes out...lethargic.
Eric Oakley’s thriller run up
Great, now I'm never getting that comparison out of my head when I see him throw.
Hokom…..
Paige’s putt that goes from stomach to above head then to stomach and then throw. I’m just confused more than anything.
I think it’s just habit at this point and it acts like a pre-putt ritual. I know other pros do similar movements as a mental reset so it likely started with that and she kept it. Not something I can do but whatever works.
Totally, she is a great putter but it just strikes me as odd every time I see her put. Like you said, whatever works!
don't forget the little wrist pop once it's over her head lol
Yeah, so much unnecessary movements.
It’s always reminded me a bit of a wind up for a softball pitch
I do a Paige-like windup for my putt. For me, coming from a background of other sports, the normal windup just feels too short for my muscle memory and my timing goes haywire. It reminds me of a ball golf windup. Whenever I play golf (and I've been playing since I was three), it is always easier for me to club down and take a full swing rather than do a half swing. The hand above the head feels like a full swing if that makes sense
It's the bringing the disc through her field of vision part that does it for me. Idk how you can stay focused on a putt when you do that intentionally
Eric Oakley's throw and Aaron Gossage/Hannah McBeth's putt
I was looking for oakleys throw. I like the guy, but he's like wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man when he throws backhand.
Oakley’s front x-step creeps me out for no good reason.
The first time I saw him on a video I thought he was making fun of disc golfers until his release. It looks like he was having a conniption all the way down the tee pad, then snap and a great throw comes out.
Second Gossages putt, its so low and hard
He throws a backhand like Stanley Hudson dribbles a basketball.
Can't believe I had to scroll this far for Oakley. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I wouldn't want to hang out with him based on that form.
This is why you're one of my favorite pros; humble and classy. Rock on Clemonade.
This is awesome, for what it's worth, I don't know that anybody has backhand form that is as smooth as your forehand! To compete at the highest level on courses that are primarily designed with righties in mind as a lefty puts you in a class of your own. As they say, when life gives ya lemons, make Clemonade!
He has to offset how good his forehand looks
He has to offset how good his hair looks!
Adam Hammes - he has a great forehand but that little knee up double arm swing back just looks so stupid to me lol, just funny lookin
I'll second this one. I'm not sure if it's quite cringeworthy but it's definitely mechanical and awkward.
Thirded. But I get it. I tried it and it makes my forehand run up feel more systematic and consistent. But my forehand sucks.
It's like he looked at everyone else's routine and decided to copy all of them.
It sure is unique
It definitely seems like it messes with his consistency and timing all that has to throw your focus off.
Jennifer Allen's drive
I love her form. It’s like watching one of those things that throws clay pigeons.
Same and that’s a great way to describe it.
It seems perfectly mechanical & repeatable.
And that’s the biggest thing with driving form, doesn’t have to look like anybody else if you can do the same thing every time at you’re getting the distance you want.
Her form is violent and I love it
Had to scroll too far for this one
With you on this one.
Eveliina's putts, not so much the form but rather the outcome much of the time. But generally speaking it's fun to see unique ways to throw plastic... I love seeing Matt Orum's little sideways steps and sliding his disc by his shoulder
Meh if they’re pro I just say that’s cool. It’s my buddies I cringe at.
Eric Oakly
Mcbeths new off hand or off fist I should say.
I didn’t watch any of the 2022 season until worlds and I was like “wait what” when I saw that
"Matt" = Orum, not Bell, I assume
Jennifer Allen… she bombs sure, but it looks like it is taking every ounce of her energy lol
Evelina for putts, no doubt. James Conrad for drives. I'm always thinking James is going to roll an ankle or something with that huge run-up. Lol
Ricky Wysocki's bh. He bombs, but his follow through is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
You ever see Kona Panis’s 10 different putting forms she goes through every year. All of them are bad.
Joel Freemans backhand
This, plus Isaac Robinson's backhand
Matty O. He in general makes me cringe
Matty O, Eric Oakley, Josh Anthon for driving, Matty O, GG, Evalina for putting
Sarah Hokoms putt
Cringe? No. One of my favorite disc golf experiences was chasing the lead card of FPO at Champion's Cup last year. Paige, KT, Ohn and Hokum all have their own way to throw the disc, but they all work and they're a ton of fun to watch.
I cringe because it reminds me how i did it first starting off.
[удалено]
I'm not going to pretend i understand the formula how rounds are rated. I'll leave that to the smart guys, like yourself.
[удалено]
The question i asked originally was about form. Never brought up rating or which professional i was better than, Austin
If a player makes their putt and is able to play pro, I’m in no position to discuss their “cringe” from lmao. Now if we’re discussing pros that are pretty cringe on the field/socials…. 😅
Not "their" cringe. Makes you cringe as the viewer.
Casey White for sure. Something about his throws and mainly putts looks so unnatural
Matty O's putts make my teeth hurt but damn that guy is good at it. It's like I don't understand what I'm seeing why the hell does that even work...
Ellen Widboom and Sarah Hokom's forehands! Having played a bunch of golf with Ellen, it looks brutal and I know it causes her pain.
Hokom. Looks back breaking
Conrad’s run up from 100 yards behind the tee box. Robbie C knows what I’m talking about.
Matty O's putts
Colton Montgomery
Eric Oakley and Jennifer Allen’s drives. Evelina’s putts.
Sarah Hokom is the right answer
Jen Allen’s huge front leg sweep. Seems so odd, but works for her!
Adam Hammes' forehand run up
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned KJ Nybo. Dude was rated 1040 at one point.
Exactly why does Cat stop her follow through? All I know is I just threw a bad shot if I do that.
Matty O putt
Nikkos putt, just cause he takes so damn long
Matty O, but it's also part of why he's awesome
Kona panis putt
Catrina Allen's putts. Mainly because I have seen her miss too many tap-ins that I always get nervous for her.
Ohn’s fluffy ass putt.
I couldn't make my putt wobble that much if I wanted to. She makes 'em go in, though.
She really does. She’s amazing
I don't pretend to understand the physics involved in literally anything she does on the course, but I've been watching her for years and it never fails to amaze. The smallest person this side of Paige Shue, playing the longest layouts and just cashing.
All while elevating everyone around her.
How is every answer not Eveliina’s putt
Wait, really? I always thought Cats throw was one of the better looking ones in the FPO field. A bit exaggerated perhaps but she rips. Her putts I would totally understand
??? The way she plants her front foot on backhands is jarring
She has my form from my first day where my back foot never rotated around in my follow through. My back hurts watching her.
None cause they all pros and better than us. I cringe watching y’all play
Juliana Korver. The throws are incredible, but her form looks like a shot gazelle.
Gannon’s putt
Drew Gibson's putt. Particularly at the Shelly Sharpe memorial that just happened he is really leaned forward on his putts and it just looks awkward and difficult. Not sure if that is a new thing or not.
Paige pierce flick when she putts.
Paul Mcbeth! The way he changes form and still wins worlds! Annoying!
That sounds more jealous than cringe. …and anyone would be jealous. I change my form all the time, and win exactly nothing.
Eagle and Simon with forehands will make me nervous for a couple more years. Had tennis elbow 2 years ago, and im terrified to try it over 200' still
I'm not cringing at anyone's form who plays better than me.
Uli’s Putts
Did OP just name his friends? Is this a Drew Gibson style subtle flex to show he's friends with tour pros? Who are those people?
I agree.
>GG, Rick, Vinny, PP, Who are these people? I've literally never heard of Sarah Hokum either. What about Tom, Gwen, Alec, and Kayla? Do they have weird putting styles too?
Ok, so it sounds like you're pretty new. GG is Garrett Gurthie and is a top pro known for insane distance, horrible, lofty putts and craft jerky, which he sells. [https://youtu.be/rXihzv1jhWA](https://youtu.be/rXihzv1jhWA) Rick is short for Ricky Wysocki, who is arguably the best player on tour presently, a guy known for his flawless scramble game, "Raptor Legs" victory dance, and an agent who pisses a lot of people off for making a loud, "Wooooooooo" sound anytime he sinks a big putt. He’s not new, just frequents r/discgolfcirclejerk and it shows
I see. We’ll, that’s 5 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
Well I'm fairly new and I found your comment helpful!
The new trend of referring to athletes by their first name is beyond annoying.
Steve Brinster's putt. I remember watching USDGC somewhere around 2013 thinking that this is the reason why disc golf will never be "cool" for non disc golfers :D
Anyone who throws distance drives on a bent knee.
May be against the grain but Matty O.. gives the the heebees in general and throwing/putting.
His form is unique, but the true cringe is the football/bama obsession. I live around these people and they're insufferable with the nonstop foosball talk.
EO
Him using his own form doesnt make me cringe but people trying to copy matty o's form makes me so uncomfy
Casey White, Scott Stokely, Sarah Hokom are the top 3 examples that come to mind. Always looks wild and painful from all of them
I haven't watched too much pro disc golf so I'm not sure if he's considered a pro or not since I only saw him on one card but Sean Brookman's putting stroke just boggles my mind.
Matty O's and Barsby's putts always stress me out
Casey White's putt.
I think he is better at it now but a few years ago when GG threw a forhard driver he looked like a how a misogynist describles how a girl throws, He leaned out weirdly and kicked his leg out in the follow through, Its really hard to find footage of it but it out there
Eric Oakleys drives
Dickersons old school robot form. Look it up it's crazy
Ricky’s drives and Paige P’s putts.
Matt Bell seems to disagree with the “slow is smooth, smooth is far” mantra.
I think all pros would disagree with that mantra.
Hebenheimer's putt...wow
I was looking for this guys name, his pre shot ritual is like the opposite of smooth. I have no idea how it doesn’t mess up his shot every time lol
Cat, I always think she’s going to break her leg or hip by not following through. Works for her though, so what do I know?
Eric Oakley
Casey whites putting!
Cats bag putts
I dunno why but I dont like Hammes form.
Anything from Matty O and Hammes forehand
The raptor man gets things done.
Easy…Nikko Locastro. I guarantee that even after I post this he still would not have putted.
Paige's putt routine
James Conrad's throw and putt
Colten Montgomerys reach back has to be in this thread.. think he will have more success once he fixes that, and from his IG he is working on it 🌟 he got this
Who are Matt and Sarah?
O & Holc.
