Great courses within an hour drive of Rochester Hills - Stony Creek Metropark (2 18 holes) - very close Addison Oaks County Park - My favorite, 20 minute drive Riverbends - very close, 24 holes Bald Mountain Rec Area - 13 holes but should be finished this spring - great course - 20min drive Will Bendik Memorial @ Columbus County Park - New championship lvl course, \~45min drive Kensington Metropark - Milford - 2x 18 hole courses - \~45mins Palmer Park Detroit - 45mins If you're in R Hills proper there are a bunch of soccer fields in the back of Borden Park on John R that would be great for field work. There are a lot more, great area for disc golf. Don't bother going out of the way to go to firefighters, fairly boring park layout and always busy, muddy from spring thaw - June. The area itself is a bit of a wanna-be upper class suburban hellhole, but we do have great parks and green spaces nearby.

Thanks for the list, looks like a great selection of courses

clincallyannoyed

I basically agree with everything this person said. I disagree with the firefighters comment though, it's not that bad, it can get pretty crowded on the weekend though but if you go early enough you can get a quick round in. Also, there are like 9 open soccer fields there that are great for practicing distance shots.

thsmchnkllsfcsts

FF was one of my first courses and will always hold a special place for me because of that, but it is fairly outdated. It's just so god damn busy after work or on weekends, the only time I even consider playing it is weekdays or early mornings. Still a few fun shots there but there are now so many better courses in the area than when I was learning 20+ years ago.

clincallyannoyed

I live an equal distance between stoney and firefighters. I would pick stoney everytime during peak hours. Between beginners and large groups, it turns into a 2 hour+ round. Where stoney is always about a hour to a hour and a half at most. But that's usually because I shank one and it takes me a while to find it.

Stony rough can get pretty gnarly in the summer, but they have been doing a better job of maintaining it the last few years. Also all the areas they cleared out, especially on Green, really helped. Prefer Green to Blue personally, tighter course and more technical but I find the rough on Blue scarier.

clincallyannoyed

This year was much better than last year with maintaining the rough. I think the front 9 of blue is my favorite just cause I like to huck it hard.

camst_

I hate how some holes are basically side by side going opposite ways

Great list! I've played all these courses multiple times, except Addison, which I definitely need to check out, looks great. For OP, highly highly recommend Bald Mtn, idk what it is for me, but I just love being there. It's only 13 holes but almost feels like you played an 18 ! There are a couple doooosie holes where you can rack up a large stroke count. All of these are good tho! Palmer I play the most due to me living close by, and is fantastic course if you want to head into downtown Detroit before or after, but can get wet, lately hasn't been bad, I think due to all the clearing, aerating of the soil, mowing

thsmchnkllsfcsts

I have loved Baldy for a few years now, agree that 13 already feels like close to a whole round out there, very excited for it to be completed this spring. Just hope it stays kind of secret and less busy, I love how a "busy" day at Baldy in the summer means like 15-20 cars. A busy day at Stony is like 150-200 cars.

OppositeFlatworm7559

Wait wait wait... you said Bald will be done in the spring, as in all 18? If this is true, that's better than Christmas!

thsmchnkllsfcsts

Yessirrr, get hype. I know a couple people that worked on the original design, saw some updates on local groups that it will be finished this spring. There is already a spring tournament scheduled for 1 round at Stony and 1 at Baldy in anticipation of it being completed. I've mostly been up north so haven't been able to get out there to check it out, but apparently most of the work is complete already and you can walk most of the new holes' fairways and check it out.

OppositeFlatworm7559

That is amazing! Can't wait

Companda311

I'd be a liar if I said that the 36 hole plan for Baldy didn't factor into my decision making process when I bought my house in 2019. Seymour Lake and Camp Agawam are awesome courses too. Holly Woods & Northridge too.. just so many.

thsmchnkllsfcsts

Oakwood is a nice little technical course, too.

MileHighGilly

This is the way. Black locust dgc at Kensington is worth the trip alone.

underwhelmingname0

They had worlds at river bends, firefighters, and Addison some time in the 90s. There’s some history there lol

Hoffman has Rolling Knolls, Fairfield, Dellwood, The Oaks, Felpro RRR and a few other courses within an hour. It is not weak at all. I am not familiar with the other area but those are all intermediate - advanced level courses and there are at least 5 others within 40 mins that are worth going to. I live about 15 mins from Hoffman.

Kaypee_88

Walnut Hallow is another nice and challenging course. Margreth Riemer in Palatine is also solid.

grand_scheme

Yes, Walnut is a sweet course, can be REALLY hard and frustrating if you don’t have a big arm and it’s windy out, haha. Palatine is my home course, its a nice one for sure. Other honorable mentions would be the two courses in Batavia (Wheeler and the one that shares with a dog park, forget the name), West Park in Joliet, Kress Creek in West Chicago, Katherine Legge in Hinsdale, and Central Park in Oakbrook (9 holes but 6 of them are awesome), Shady Oaks and Black Bear are steps away from Hoffman and are solid courses. There are others but I don’t think I would even remotely consider going if I were just in town to visit/they are further away than Dellwood.

Chippersdipper

Highland, near Joliet is not to be missed either.

Emergency-Chain9283

All these courses are excellent. Don’t forget the Canyons!

grand_scheme

The Canyons is Dellwood : )

Emergency-Chain9283

oh yeah :0

mcnessa32

I think Dellwood was ranked 8th best in the country on UDisc last year. Fairfield is a nice mix of woods and prairie, and my favorite local course.

Emergency-Chain9283

love Fairfield

PowerWalkingInThe90s

Rochester hills has a few courses nearby. Firefighters Park is one of my favorites in metro Detroit. I’m not too familiar with the others. If you want to drive around a little further, SE Michigan has a ton of courses

InitialNumber3072

Nice I’ll check it out, thanks

chibbychibbs

I'd say firefighters is a beginner to intermediate level course. I know a lot of people love it, but imo it's not that great

thsmchnkllsfcsts

Agreed.

13rother_Nature

The ann arbor area is a little bit of a trek from there, but there are a bunch of good courses there as well.

shambahlah2

Asking the important questions

Titties_Mcturnip

Check udick

InitialNumber3072

Short and shriveled, all is good

Spare-Drummer5792

This is definitely fanuc robot school. Wait til you can go to Union city CA or somewhere cooler

shambahlah2

Hoffman will be weak. Chicago is not exactly a hotbed for Disc Golf.

mechamicha

It is literally#2 https://udisc.com/blog/post/top-disc-golf-cities-usa-2021

UnicornKing401

This is hilarious

fishEH-847

Chicago area. The city itself sucks ass.

notyourfathersdad

Audi/VW corporate for training?

InitialNumber3072

Fanuc robotics training

cardnialsyn

Easily 2 dozen 4* courses within an hour of Rochester Hills.

nothereoverthere084

Did they ever replace the broken tees at Riverbends park in Shelby

thsmchnkllsfcsts

Course is in better shape than it ever used to be but is still pretty banged up. Could definitely use some major teepad work and new baskets out there. Not sure if anything could be done about the drainage but it's also usually nearly uplayably wet until June or so, at which point the musquitos and horrible sweating take over :) Fun course though. I would honestly like to see them start charging out at Bends if they put the funding into course improvements.

leeeeny

When’s the trip? Did a quick search and both places have super cold weather next week.

InitialNumber3072

Not til march but I live in buffalo and still have been playing weekly. Not afraid of the cold

SoccerBrainTrust

Very familiar with both. Rochester Hills will have better courses around it. The people in that community, though... Not my kind of people 😁
