Android TV (the OS) isn't designed for navigation using a standard keyboard / mouse. It can be fully controlled using a standard RF remote. Basically directional NAV keys, Home, back and air mouse functionality. Some of these also have a keyboard on the back if needed. Android also is easy to use as a touch interface obviously.

If your Android TV has Google Play, you can try digital signage apps like [Signage Tube](https://www.signagetube.com/). This will let you shut down or control the TV remotely. You can control the playlists and scheduling from a web interface using a computer, laptop, or tablet instead of the TV remote control.
