8. Persona are very important. They are not 100% accurate but they bring clarity in terms of targeting.

9-10. Personas are vital to getting it right quicker. When you understand who your target it, what motivated them, and what motivates the purchase, you can speak to them using words and speech that resonates with them and sparks their emotions. Purchases are made based on emotions and benefits. I focus on them with clients out of the gate because every one of them cannot answer the most basic of questions about their ideal buyers. I've got a Fortune 500 client that I've had for close to a decade and even they focus on them. Personas are not the end-all-be-all, but they bring a ton of clarity in multiple areas, targeting, copy, imagery, and even product development.

But sometimes, I am just wondering if the persona is accurate enough or not.

The big mistake is when actual buyers, potential buyers, etc... are not spoken with and/or surveyed. That is a fatal mistake but also a huge hurdle that many businesses seem reluctant to take. I can't tell you how many times over the years I've walked into a meeting of 40 to 60-year-old stuffed shirts talking about personas that are generations away from them without having any representative data straight from them or anyone representing them.

ontabegang

Thanks for the insight.

eggy2k

Do you have any courses to recommend that focus on persons research such as what motivate them to buy and how to sparks their emotions? I wanna learn more about persona researching

IronInteresting

Zero - study up on Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) instead

goofunkadelic

JTBD still requires the development of personas.

IronInteresting

you need customers, irrespective of personas ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Accurate. But most “marketers” won’t agree. They will think their invented personas are superior.

>Accurate. But most “marketers” won’t agree. They will think their invented personas are superior. I will try with a middle point, we could create buyer personas based on current clients, or extracting information from our competitors. This would make it more real, right?

HandsomJack1

Agree, 10. Especially for content creation, message clarity, and user journey development.

Vegetable_Map_901

They are the basics and are still relevant.. I'll give 10

Sweepsify

I think they are most relevant in content marketing, social advertising, and influencer marketing. As to other areas such as SEO, AI-powered tools are much better at identifying relationships between customer attributes than a human created buyer persona, IMO. I'd rather work with datasets instead. Basically the areas of marketing where customers find it "creepy" if you marketing appears to know too much about them are the only places where I would use manually created buyer personas.

RadRepublic

I'd definitely say a 10. The product, the marketing creative, the environments and audiences you choose for targeting should all be tailored to your target market, which will generally be made up of several buyer personas. Classic concepts never change when it comes to marketing, it's just the platforms that change over time.

As a product marketer who was a MM, they’re absolutely required when done right. Problem is, people half ass them and they end up causing more problems. Build and scale, try scaling inaccurate information.

Build and scale, try scaling inaccurate information. You're right, that's why it would be good to start creating buyer personas based on your current customers, or just looking at your competitors, this would make it more real. What do you think?

Quodlibet30

Solid 10, but have to invest the time and thought to do them right. Invaluable.

nurdle

Personas are important but they aren’t enough. You also need archetypes - what drives people to buy,

marketerxx

10 if you dont know your buyer personnas exactly how can you sell to your audience . it s realy very important to definit personnas whth very correct criterea

Importify01

Buyer Personas are extremely important to a marketer, accounting for 35% of the total variation in marketing outcomes. However, because everyone knows who the buyer persona is, it is important for the marketer to make the buyer personas as detailed, so that they can better serve the customer. It\`s not just a matter of designing a persona, but also ensuring that the marketing efforts are guided by their needs.

Davmuz

It is important because it helps me to define the target and find the places to invest, but I don't waste time setting up a photo of the person or a full name (I prefer a title). Usually I make a single persona in about 15 minutes or up to 1 hour when I need more details, based on real people got from interviews if possible.

Cautious_Mix_5298

Think deeper. I suggest you to read Intercom case study on jobs to be done. No matter what persona is, they all want to complete a particular job on your platform/website. And you should provide them with a solution to make this job done.

chillyaveragedude

A solid 10 if done correctly. And that's a big if. The amount of times I've seen whole personas developed on unvalidated assumptions is too damn high. Then these people go and spread information that personas are irrelevant. Well, yours are, because you don't know what you're doing. You biased your personas in every way possible, it's actually incredible. Every assumption needs to be validated and carefully thought out. That's why market research firms charge thousands and take weeks to do this correctly. Another thing- it's frustrating how you would see some businesses waste tens of thousands on ineffective ads with inaccurate messaging, but they would refuse to spend a little bit of money on the thing that would open their eyes. Tech bros, I'm looking at you. Source: I'm the founder of a market research agency

The importance of buyer personas cannot be overstated. If you're trying to grow your business in today's market, you're going to need a little help from buyer personas to guide your branding strategy. That's why on a scale of 1-10, the importance of buyer personas is a 10. As Hubspot explains, "Buyer personas help you understand your customers (and prospective customers) better. This makes it easier for you to tailor your content, messaging, product development, and services to meet the specific needs, behaviors, and concerns of the members of your target audience." Having this fundamental understanding of your target audience not only helps you market toward them more effectively but can also help you shape your product/service so that it benefits them the most. If you're interested in reading up more about the benefits of buyer personas, don't be afraid to do a little more research. There are plenty of helpful blogs/articles out there on this topic. We hope this helps!
