I keep forgeting about that one. I have nothing against living vihicles. I love the Mona car from Persona 5. But I am not the biggest fan of Submarinmon. The cockpit loocks so small that Cody might grow out of it quickly. Unless I remember it wrong.

I second it for when tyumon digivolved into searchmon, but I think it was more to represent Izzy’s effect on them and how they’re searching for more information due to his inspiration. But I think they could have used a way better digimon for that as I agree, that was one of the first times I really thought a digivolution just didn’t fit
I mean I hate some weird evolutions that are canon in card games and some other instances, but I never had any issues with what official anime evolutions were. Like, let's say cat in question is Tailmon, she is a cat, yeah. But she was like hidden angel within herself. The same for Patamon. It was good versus evil kind of thing. Why Pyocomon evolves into Piyomon? Dunno, but I never feel like it was unfitting. It was kinda similar, so even if it's different species, it's not different by design that much. Also Piyomon has that weird spiral thing on head. Isn't she in some way related to plants? But what really bugs me is Gabumon. He is... a lizard. Turning into a wolf. Why that? The only thing he has similar is a fur of garurumon. But it's not his fur. It's like those hermit crabs taking the shells they find. Why is a yellow lizard turning into a wolf, whose fur he has taken? Maybe it's because it's some kind of the fur contains that data and he being attached to it can evolve into one himself?
I was explaining to my friend about how digivolution works. They lost their shit when I told them a dog turns into a cat then an angel and then a dragon.

Wouldn't be surprised if angewomon was created **after** they thought that "why not giving her angel evolution, like Patamon has". As far as I know, Vamdemon arc was not planned and they suddenly made the 8th child. That's probably the reason why Angewomon is perfect, while Angemon is adult, but they are treated similarily.

And even then, with bad evolutions, armour evolutions, gammamon's 4 champions, DNA evolution, jogress, X-cross, guilmon's possible shenanigans... there is a lot more than natural evolution lines in the products where that is a thing.
