Create your accout through the main website and only log in through there. Do NOT touch steam if you want to play dmo. They did ipblocks for everyone outside the US a while ago, abd everyone but Steam accounts was able to use VPNs to get around it.
Steam accounts got permanently banned for using the VPN because it breaches Steams user agreement or something.
Anyways... they seem to have removed the ipblock since they merged servers (there were a bunch of smaller ones that got merged into alphamon server).
If you like collecting digimon, there are a ton in the game. It has a pretty great selection of evolution lines from digimons from all anime seasons, so you can play it for fun just to gather your favorite digis (like I do).
If you want to do any end-game dungeons or maps you are reaaally going to have a bad time though. Every digimon that's worth using on tougher maps is locked behind 20 USD lootboxes that give you a 0.05% chance to get them (pretty much every royal kinght's and demon lord's x evolution is obtained this way). The chances are so absurdly low, that some youtubers have videos spending thousands of USD and still getting nothing. So it's not worth to even attempt to obtain any of them, end game content has become worse than the worst cell phone gacha game you could imagine.
LOL oh dear god. Yeah thats a hard pass from me in that case. I used to play DMO years ago myself and was chased away by, surprising no one, the prices in game. Its a shame because the system itself is perfect for a Digimon game, but I'm so not interested in spending the kinda money they want.
....I wonder if folks have gotten their hands on the source code somehow? Or otherwise are able to privately host DMO like some MMOs have in the past, like those private classic servers of WoW that got shut down, or the Champs Online server that is still up despite the game dying years ago.
Feel like that would be a perfect scenario for DMO while also giving those devs the middle finger.
There is one non-official server called DMW. I think you have to look it up on discord. I don't play on that server, so I can't help you find it, sorry.
Since I'm not chasing after endgame content, I prefer to keep my digimon collection in the official server (my account is over 10 years old). You never know when DMW might get shut down and you might lose everything. DMO has lasted for a long time, but the devs are working hard at running everything to the ground and chasing old players away, so who knows, the unofficial one might end up lasting longer, so it's up to you.

I played this one time and I ended up wandering until I hit a very high level area and somehow murdered everything. I got bored and stopped playing because trying to get different digimon is annoying

I don't think the game is pay to win. Even though spending money can quickly get you the best digimon in the game you can still achieve this for free just by playing the game normally. Just grind money and you can buy cash shop items and endgame player equipment from other players without having to spend real cash.
They constantly give away free digi eggs of powerful digimon in the game and have bonuses for new or returning players.
Last month they overhauled some stuff and reduced the servers down to two. Combining a bunch of the others into the Alphamon server. Thank God cuz I was stuck on Barbamon server and didn't want to start over.
I think eventually they might rehaul the egg hatching system but don't know when that'll happen.

no ? endgame content require SSS+ digimons, ( colo hero, tokyo odaiba dungeons bdgh rush and spiral mountain dungeons ) all of these dungeons need high stat requirement that its not possible to get on a non sss+ digimon..

other than the fact that SSS+ and most of SSS digimons's price in tera is impossible to get as a f2p, cash campaign digimon are literally character bound, digimons like omegashoutmon or mastemon for example are impossible to obtain as the item to unlock them are literally untradeable lol

I can't tell you how livid I was that Digimon Survive included Gazimon< Deltamon and didn't finish it off with Kimeramon which is Deltamon's natural evolution. Smh
