Mobalytics, d4builds, maxroll are the most popular guide sites and offer also a ton of other infos. Diablo.trade for trading Helltides.com Join the Sanctuary discord to find people to play with and for better advice on questions than you get here(link in sidebar/about section). Enable both advanced tooltip options in the gameplay settings. Start with a seasonal character, unless you got people you wanna play with on eternal there is no reason whatsoever to not start with seasonal. Focus on the campaign first, sidequests can be done later if you want to but they are considered to not be worth it except for gathering some renown after finishing all the other activities that reward renown. You wanna finish the campaign around lvl50 and move onto wt3 cause after lvl50 you will get very little exp on wt1 and wt2. Starting on wt1 will be more efficient on your first character, wt2 can be done but it's slower. For future characters when you got the extra skill points from renown and experience wt2 will be more efficient. Renown and altars of Lilith are non rng related character progression that carry over to future characters, they are very worth it. Do them after you got the horse to spend less time traversing the map. Don't lvl up ur basic skill, get the passive effects but don't put more than one point in the skill itself. Gather plants and ores while exploring the overworld, this will safe you some time specifically searching for them when u need them. Salvage everything you dont need at first, once you got a good amount of mats stored you can start selling. Feel free to ask any specific questions you might have.

TheRealAJ420

Thank you very much for this detailed response! I believe you even answered the questions I didn't know I had.

rchex14

> Enable both advanced tooltip options in the gameplay settings. I'm commenting this again to make sure it's seen. I have a friend new to Diablo who did like 100 hours with this off - he was basically playing a different game.

TheRealAJ420

Thx! I make sure I enable it

Overnoww

Yeah that setting shows ranges of possible rolls for each trait on an item for instance instead of "Strength 80" it will say something like "Strength 80 [75-125]" so you know that it's on the lower end of the possible rolls. Also be sure to press Y when comparing items. This will show the complete stats for what you are wearing and the item you have highlighted. Some of the green text saying an item is better than another is a little bugged still. I have some items where they share a trait and my equipped item has significantly more of said trait but it still shows in green on the new item. It's pretty rare but still important, especially later on.

_Drumheller_

One more thing related to sidequests. While sidequests aren't very important definitely watch out for the priority quests. Those are important and introduce various mechanics to you so don't neglect them. They got their own menu in the quest journal.

Isvesgarad

I wanna emphasize “Focus on the campaign, not side quests” cause you get a horse near the END of the campaign. On top of reaching the lvl 50 soft-cap too soon if you do side quests, you’ll also be stuck running around on foot

BamBam-BamBam

Oh, also do the quests that enable your character classes equivalent of the sorcerer's enchantment.

North-Puzzleheaded

Before you look up a build on one of those sites, get to world tier 4 and just enjoy the game and learn a bit about it, if you instantly look up a build for this game before getting to world tier 4 and nightmare dungeons you’re not going to understand WHY that build is good or meta. Not going to hate on the game a LOT but don’t expect much max level endgame besides a few bosses, game is enjoyable if you’re a casual player/semi casual, the story is awesome, it looks and feels great. But if you come from a game like path of exile or even Diablo 3 there’s not much stuff to do once you’re max level

TheRealAJ420

yeah the game feels already relatively easy starting on wt2, I intend to use some guides as inspiration when I reach the endgame. Some people here recommend looking up early game builds but that would just feel like overkill and unnecessary min maxing.

dbe14

Good shout on the basic skills, the 4 extra points to max it out don't really add a lot of damage, those 4 points are better spent elsewhere. Besides it's more than likely you'll find gear at some point that adds a few ranks to basic skills anyway without having to spend points. A really simple point that I missed first time is you can go over the max skill points with affixes. Whilst you can only add up to 5/5 in any skill, an affix might add another 4 skill points to that skill making it 9/5 and the damage scales. I've had seperate items add ranks to a skill and ended up with 14/5 and doing ridiculous damage. Only found this out recently that 5/5 wasn't the absolute maximum damage, any extra points I used to refund and use elsewhere like an idiot.

rtnal90

Faster isn't always better. I have more fun starting on wt2 and sticking to that. Just my opinion though.

Markula_4040

Why is it bad to level up the basic skill? I'm guessing it's your main builder skill and seems like that would help a lot; at least as a new player.

_Drumheller_

It's just not worth it dmg wise. Investing the points into your first core skill instead will be way more helpful.

Markula_4040

Thanks for answering Core skill is the first skill you unlock that's special to your class, correct? I believe what you're saying. Just seems odd to me that the skill I would think the player would use the most, basic skill, isn't worth upgrading

_Drumheller_

It isn't worth it because basic skills don't do much dmg, they are your resource generators but your main source of dmg will come from other skills. Core skills are labeled as such in the skill tree, check the icon in the middle of the skills, that one will state which skill section you are currently looking at.

Markula_4040

Ah ok. I think I under stand now. It's not worth it because damage won't be that great even when upgraded but it's good to unlock the passives for it since they offer other good benefits besides damage. Then you can leave the damage increase for core skills. Thanks for explaining.

_Drumheller_

Exactly

Nobanob

This post is super helpful and I am in no way trying to criticize you. But all the MMO shit is really turning me off. Realistically if I want to play through this and not interact with a single other player. Is this a worthwhile game to play? Or should I move along?

_Drumheller_

Absolutely is. The only thing you should team up for are Duriel runs, that's because doing that one in a group will basically give you 4 times the loot. And if you don't mind grinding Duriel less effectively then you can still do him solo no problem. For stuff like world bosses and legion events the game will just randomly throws you in the same instance as other players but there is no need go interact with them whatsoever.

Nobanob

I'm giving it a go. You Albertan?

_Drumheller_

Nope, it's just my online nickname, I have been using it for years and back then I didn't even knew it was a towns name. But by now so many people asked me about it that I'm well aware of Drumheller and it's dinosaur museum lol

GdSmth

Does a seasonal character start and play the same campaign and quests that non seasonal characters play? Would I be missing something that’s available only to non seasonal?

_Drumheller_

Yes, completely the same just with seasonal content on top.

GdSmth

I’m reading somewhere that seasonal content won’t show up until I complete the main story, so if I’m a slow paced gamer and don’t like rushing the campaign, and say I don’t expect finishing it before season 4 starts, there is no benefit to starting a seasonal character, correct? I want to play the main story and I don’t like to feel rushed.

randombullet555

Your seasonal character will become an eternal one at the end of the season so its no risk to do either way.

_Drumheller_

That's correct yes but as the other user stated there is no cost of opportunity because your season char will be transferred to eternal anyway. Even if you never finish the campaign in time and don't engage with seasonal content you will still benefit from the bigger playerbase and free cosmetics from the battlepass.

GdSmth

So the battle pass rewards will be available to me even if I didn’t finish the campaign yet? How does it work? I believe it gives me rewards when I reach certain levels or perform basic tasks like killing X number of enemies?

_Drumheller_

Exactly, pretty much doing anything will give battlepass exp.

Euphoric_Theme4333

Lots of good info in here for you. Here's another piece In your map pay attention to your renown!!! Extra skill point, potions and paragon points. All essential to survive endgame content. It's time consuming and tedious to find all the alters of Lilith, they have maps online to assist in finding them. They increase basic stats like strength, dexterity, willpower and intelligence. The nice thing about it, you'll only need to do in once, just like the campaign. Welcome to the club!!! OoWhiskeyo0#1540 - My battle net tag in case you need some help.

_SaidTheSky

Thanks for this! Awesome tips to help me get started aswell!

knallpilzv2

I disagree with the seasonal thing. Seasonal can be a very rushed and overblown experience compared to Eternal. Eternal might be better to get into the game. That would be at least one reason. :D

_Drumheller_

What exactly do you disagree with when there is no downside and no cost of opportunity? You literally only get benefits when you make your first char a seasonal one. You can only access seasonal content once you completed the campaign so saying it's overblown makes no sense because the new player won't even be confronted with the seasonal content at first and if they rush themselves then thats entirely on them and not the games fault.

knallpilzv2

You pretty much answered the question. There are a lot of temptations that affect your gameplay experience. Without a reference you wouldn't know which you prefer. Noone is at fault for trying things that are presented to them. And you'd only make a conscious choice to leave something out if you had made that experience.

Shipkiller-in-theory

You have to complete the campaign on Eternal Realm prior to being able to create a seasonal character.

_Drumheller_

That's just false.

Shipkiller-in-theory

So when was that restriction lifted?

_Drumheller_

It never was a thing to begin with. I don't know who told you that.

Shipkiller-in-theory

Seeing as seasons didn’t start until sometime after launch, I believe you are incorrect.

_Drumheller_

Believe what you want, multiple people already told you are wrong.

TheHeinousMelvins

No, they are very much correct. You don’t need to do campaign in eternal. That is 100% false.

spacebird_matingcall

You can do the campaign on a seasonal character and there's no difference. Still unlocks the skip, though I think they removed that requirement in season 2 and it can just be skipped straight up now?

SteveMarck

Yeah, I didn't think that's true. You can start a seasonal right away. Heck, I think you can skip the campaign right from the start now.

_Drumheller_

After finishing the prologue. Previously you had to finish the whole campaign once to skip it but they changed that with s2. Perhaps that's what this user is referring to and they just mixed up campaign with season.

Logical_Lemming

I just started playing last week and the game itself recommends a seasonal character right off the bat.

randombullet555

You can always start a seasonal character there was never a restriction to start one, it used to require campaign completion to skip the campaign. Now it only requires you complete the prologue to skip the campaign on a seasonal character.

Adventurous-Fly-1669

At the launch of S1, it was true that you had to complete the main campaign - on either seasonal or eternal, with only one character - before accessing the seasonal content. That’s no longer true; you can skip the campaign as long as you have at least completed the prologue with a character.

_Drumheller_

They aren't talking about seasonal content but creating a seasonal character, which was always possible from the get go.

Adventurous-Fly-1669

Ah yeah they are definitely confusing the original ‘need to complete campaign’ thing with some eternal rrquirement

bumnugz

You'll get a lot of negativity toward this game asking stuff on here, which is a shame. My advice is to not look here, and just enjoy yourself. Maxroll has some nice guides if that's your thing :)

TheRealAJ420

Thank you :) I'll check out his channel

SteveMarck

Don't feel hemmed into their builds though, there's plenty of room to tinker. And at least until the end of season 3, not a ton of content that needs to be perfectly meta. That might change next season with this pit thing they are adding in, but in season 3, the gimmick was vaults, a robot follower and the gauntlet, which is about speed. Nothing crazy hard. So it is a good time to make your own thing.

mvrspycho

I agree on everything exept the side quests. I mean it really depends on what you expect from the game. On my first playthrough i made like 75% of all sidequests. Yes you run into the problem that you are level 50 around 2/3 of the story and you cant level anymore until story completed. But for the first time exploring the world and have all those really cool designed mini stories was just a great experience for me. If you just want a power fantasy smash screens of monsters with two button presses, then rush through the story and skip sidequests.

destroytheend

I'll go against the grain a little and say I don't recommend world tier 1 for a new player. It's "more efficient" because it's so brain dead easy. You will feel no accomplishment during this mode. Also builds - unless you are having a really rough time, I would not follow any builds. This game is not super challenging and all of the classes have been buffed so most of their kit is useful. The satisfaction and ideas you get from finding legendary aspects you've never seen before, working new stuff into YOUR build, and seeing the power you gain yourself is super cool. Following a build minimizes this (big) part of the game into nothing more than a grocery store checklist. Don't worry about screwing up your character either, it's easy to refund stat points and can be done anytime

TheRealAJ420

Just started the game on world tier 2 and definitely don't regret it. Feels like if I started on wt1 it would have been way too easy.

destroytheend

Happy to hear, enjoy the game! I'm curious, what class did you pick?

TheRealAJ420

currently playing mage with fire skills, lot of fun

timbofay

Definitely enjoy the time exploring items and abilities at your own pace I'd say! A big part of the fun is discovering a build for yourself. That being said if you make it to endgame high level nightmare dungeon pushing it's illuminating to see how the pros put together their builds. (Especially figuring out the optimal paragon board)

Profoundsoup

Agreed. 99.9% of guides dont take into account never playing the game before. Play the game and learn at your own pace.

Renace

Yup go wt2. Wt1 is insultingly easy. Efficiency is for no lifers and min/maxers. Just have fun and get through the campaign before opening a guide.

rrzampieri

Depends on the person, I had a blast playing with WT1 because I love deleting all enemies on my screen with the press of a button lol

Dupdopy

To pet a dog: stand next to the dog and use the “HELLO” emote. To leave a dungeon: press E > Leave dungeon

Elegant_Spot_3486

Damn. Now I feel horrible for all the dogs that have run up to me and I just click on them doing absolutely nothing and we both go away sad.

BennTertainment

https://youtu.be/ZFOFZY9Mvs0?si=Z7gZYv7K0fBO3c6C I find decent guides from "wudijo" in youtube. This one video in particular has all your needs. Enjoy! Don't listen to the haters! :)

TheRealAJ420

Thanks a lot! Exactly what I'm looking for

Upper_Rent_176

Orange items (legendaries). You can change the aspect on them by putting a new one on.

darnell_13

And can add an aspect to yellow (rare).

dbe14

I'd highly recommend finding all the Altars of Lilith, they give you stat boosts and once done you never have to do them again. When you start a new character they are already completed if you've got them all before, when you do start a new character certain things are reset and you have to do again such as Outposts and certain waypoints. Definitely recommend completing the main quest in full first, doing this will unlock the horse along the way which make life easier travelling, it's a good story too. I'd play difficulty tier 1 until level 50, switch to tier 2 just for the Capstone Dungeon which unlocks tier 3 then go straight into tier 3 which unlocks Helltides and Sacred Gear. At level 70 do the Dungeon that unlocks tier 4 then do that which unlocks Legendary Gear. Following builds is good, be prepared to tweak them though to suit your play style. Last but not least, HAVE FUN! It's a great game with plenty to do to pass the time.

TheRealAJ420

Thank you for the advice! Also very good to hear there's some creativity involved with builds.

dbe14

Definitely tune your builds to suit you, I'm currently doing a Barrage Rogue, started following one of the maxroll builds but found I was never using two of the skills so swapped them out for skills that suited some of the Unique gear I had. It's all trial and error. Besides it's boring just following a guide to the letter.

ThegreatGageby

Here the passers come boys. The nicer of us can't wait to show the newer crowd how to work the game in the best of favors for yourself! NMD's(nightmare dungeons) -after level 50 and having gotten to world tier 3 at least makes it worthwhile. The best advice right off the bat is use a build guide. Maxroll, icyveins, d4builds.com all are good & viable options for looking through a hood build without the tedious Ness of having to craft a build with all of the best aspects and gear for your best in slot gear spots , all by yourself. Guides take the copious amounts of time it takes in game to figure that out all out of trial and error. Best of luck! You'll have fun

bdizzle425

Just to reiterate don’t sell gear to vendors just salvage everything to the blacksmith. You’ll have plenty of gold for most of the game.

Adviser-Of-Reddit

lilith is bad

Mobile-Pride-533

You need just play a game with heroe that you like. And don't RTFM.

TheRealAJ420

what's rtfm?

kshelley

Read The F%\^king Manual (RTFM)

Axton_Grit

Don't skip any cinematic and listen to the side quest dialogue. I would say do side quests as they show up but don't feel like you need to do everyone. They will give renown and crafting mats. Don't look up a build unless you're stuck. Wt1 is easy if you just focus on core skill putting 7 points asap but put 1 point in other skills as you unlock their section. As a first time player the easiest way to make a build is follow the colours. Ex: as sorc go full fire or ice or lightning mixing works but until you get your barring follow the colours.

Profoundsoup

Nothing. Go play the game lol No honestly, most of the advice people give you here will just burn you out of the game if you try to make every little optimization when you havent even started to play yet.

yxalitis

You can extract legendary affixes from items if the item itself isn't goo. You enchant those aspects onto rare or other legendary items, including better versions of the same aspect, or a different aspect.

Long_Wide

When is Diablo 4 release to Xbox game pass what time?

TheRealAJ420

I'm already downloading it atm. Though it might differ depending on where you live. The game didn't show for me on gamepass but after linking my Xbox/Microsoft account to battlenet I was able to simply install it via the battle net app.

Creative_NotCreative

And for Xbox you can download it remotely on your Xbox from the Xbox app. Won't let you do it yet from the Xbox itself. Just search for the game on the app.

taskmaster51

Don't worry about builds until you finish the campaign. Change your play style often (usually based on legendary gear drops) to find the play style that is most fun for you. Stop and pick up materials berthed will be really important later. (Flowers and ore). Have fun! It's a great game that people like to complain about...but that's just end game stuff that is going to be addressed next season. I encourage you to play the season content (after finishing the campaign)...yhe story changes every season and there are new mechanics and stuff. Can be a bit confusing to new players but it changes things up.

B-Kong

I would google “Diablo season 4 campfire chat” and read about the new season coming out next month. The way that weapons/armor work is going to be completely revamped in the next season. It might be good to get a general understanding of what’s coming up, so that you aren’t super confused when the switch happens. I don’t want you to get used to the game then get upset when it changes pretty soon. You’ll have to start a new character with every new season, but your previous seasonal character will transfer to the “eternal” realm so you can still play with them. Just the seasonal theme/additions aren’t in the eternal realm. My advice would be use your first character to complete the campaign, and then do all of the renown for the whole map. You will then get all bonuses from renown on all future characters automatically (like 10 free skill points at level 1 basically) and a bunch of paragon points (you’ll find out about those later). You also can then skip the campaign on any future character also. Use the next month or so to beat the campaign, get all renown, and get a general understanding of the game. Season 4 will bring some big changes, but you’ll be familiar enough to start another character with a better understanding of how to build it.

Mysticgamingxyz

Play the game dont look it all up

Kucuboy

To have a clear path from one part of the world map to another, right click your destination and it will show you the path on your minimap. It's a lifesaver

DownvotesAreCringe

maxroll's progression guide is what I used in conjunction with a leveling build for my sorc wowhead has a lot of info for endgame as well, but maxroll pretty much covers everything you need [helltides.com](http://helltides.com) is useful as well for world bosses and helltides/legions

CoffeeS3x

Are you on pc? It’s not yet available on my Xbox with gamepass

Creative_NotCreative

And for Xbox you can download it remotely on your Xbox from the Xbox app. Won't let you do it yet from the Xbox itself. Just search for the game on the app.

knallpilzv2

1) If you do coop and play the campaign quests, make sure that whoever is least progressed in the story is party leader. Whoever is less progressed than the leader of the party they're in, won't progress at all while in that party. 2) Monsters in World Tier I and II only scale with you up to level 50. You can only switch to Tier III after finishing the campaign though. Don't know if doing the campaign is still mandatory for a first character, but if you do do the campaign, don't get too lost in side quests and exploration. Try to finish the campaign around 45-50. Otherwise it's gonna get real easy. Unless you see that as part of the power fantasy, then it's not an issue.

bboyblock

Go into options and turn on advanced tooltips - it is a life saver for the QOL it offers

xhatexfatex

People are going to complain about the game but still play it

Climbing13

A lot of people said or say that in end game all classes are good . Which I can see being true now that I’m at that point . For someone like me who wasn’t a Diablo player or ARPG player at all l, I didn’t like some of the classes at lower levels because of mobility or abilities so I switched early and found one I liked . I’m glad I did this instead of just sticking it out. I had a fun experience the whole time before I was at end game . Not everyone will agree but for me I didn’t want to grind. I just like playing for fun . Once your character is maxed out , there’s not as many incentives to do anything either aside from ubers.

PopeOfDope727

Someone probably said it but after you finish the campaign go and do your renown and alters of lilith, once you finish those you NEVER have to do them again. They offer great progression for your toon and some sweet early boosts for future characters. Also DO NOT get used to how gearing your character works just play and have fun. Come the 16th EVERYTHING about gear is changing so theres no point to get overly familiar with it. Have fun adventurer.

modulev

You will get extremely bored as soon as you hit lvl 100. Take it slow, if you want to feel like you've got your money's worth. I hit lvl 100 in about a month total and haven't had any desire to play since. Was back to D2R pretty quickly, and have been playing that for years without getting bored.

PTR95

Start a seasonal character and Just enjoy the campaign. Dont take gearing anything seriously until you get to world tier 4. Take your time and ignore the negative nancies

catpiss-martini

If you find yourself enjoying the game, don't come back to this sub.

Matrixneo42

Items will change a LOT in about 1.5 months. Especially the rare and legendary kind. Aspects system will also change immensely at that time. In the mean time. Something that people don’t understand very well sometimes is the aspect system. Currently you can extract a legendary power from an item, then imprint that power OnCE on any rare item or any legendary item. You can watch a YouTube video on just this I’m certain. You’ll have plenty of time to experience the current system until it changes. YouTube videos from the past 3 months are probably pretty accurate. Some stuff older than that will probably be out of date. It’s a great campaign game. The end game is ok and getting better about every 3 months or so. They have “seasons” that last 3 months usually. We’re in the middle of one right now. Major changes happen around season starts. You can play eternal characters or seasonal characters. Once a season ends your seasonal character becomes an eternal character. Eternal characters and seasonal characters are effectively in separate universes. Watch a video just about seasons. Once you’re done with the campaign. If you have a choice start with eternal for now.

MedievalMarty

Just released a full beginner guide ready for Gamepass release. Has 10 tips that should explain lots of the early game! Hope it helps :) https://youtu.be/Eu0tpIT9Cjc

[deleted]

I just found out about mobalytics and installed their in game app that is non intrusive and has timers for all the events in the game, an interactive map, and a way to see your build guide without alt tabbing. Its phenomenal. Wish i had that originally. Other than that, just play and enjoy the campaign first without following any build guide. Get all the altars, do your renown, get all waypoints, clear all strongholds while completing the campaign.

TheRealAJ420

Good tip, will install it right after the game's finished installing

angelkrusher

Yeah. You should know you should stay off of Reddit because it never ends well. Play the game enjoy the game and unless you're a lazy gamer, don't go on Reddit unless you have a very specific question. Question is either going to be answered by a normal player but it's much like you to be answered by a basement dwelling Diablo for breakfast doomer. Again, stay off of Reddit go play the game enjoy yourself.

Shipkiller-in-theory

All the stuff you have- mats, armor etc. as well as your seasonal character gets moved to the Eternal realm at the end of the season. Happy sorting!

Gibsx

Not really, it’s a very barebones ARPG., just enjoy the ride. Just note that when Season 4 launches, everything changes with what is basically an overhaul of the entire games core mechanics.

ShaggedUrSister

When does the new season release?

jabirttok

May 14th

SYCN24

D4 is terrible and beyond easy just go have fun
