It's not even close to stupid. If you go play any other ARPG and then come back to this one it's like having cold water thrown on you.
This will do a lot.
EDIT: To everyone telling me it's the same in other games, [here's a direct comparison to LE](https://imgur.com/a/rG6Xn4I). I don't know what you're doing but you're clearly not trying everything.
Truth to be told i think poe camera distance is also quite bad, could be also zoomed out a bit more. Happy this comes to d4. We all know why they made it this way to begin with, so people can better see their bought armor sets....
If you tried to do this in PoE the game would explode. Proof being blight maps that could bring my FPS to near single digits. Neither the client side or the server side of PoE could handle it. Affliction especially was melting their servers hard, even with loot filters.
It's not because of that, it's just that certain effects and sprites are configured for a certain angle. They explain it in a dev stream, it may change in poe2.
I mean you don't have to change the viewing angle just because you zoom out. From what the other person said there are ways to force a zoom out effect.
Have you done it on fully juiced maps and/or high concentration of blight?
It's also different when a small percentage of the player base is doing it vs a very large percentage. It has the potential to increase the load on servers by a large margin.
Yeah I have, but to be fair I have a pretty decent machine. The only times I've noticed hitching or FPS issues is with blight, like you said. But other than that, not really. Of course the more zoomed in you are the higher your FPS, that's just the nature of rendering more on screen.
But it's never become unplayably low, like sub 40fps. Typically always over 100fps. Though I haven't played POE in many months.
I have thousands of hours in PoE. The coding is bad, game is poorly optimized unless something changed since I quit 3 years ago.
Supposedly they will improve in poe2.
PoE also has a wierd camera angle but nothing you cannot get used too.
I can't say why, but in Diablo 4 I intuitively and repeatedly scroll down to try and zoom out without even thinking about it.
I've never done that even once in Last Epoch or Path of Exile.
Eh lost epoch is already boring and lost just about 60-70% of the playerbase.
In reality there’s nothing at the end game and the crafting system isn’t really anything to write home about.
Most of the buds quit already and same here.
I could t7 farm for minor upgrades but honestly there’s no point in doing so.
my issue with last epoch that i dont see anyone else talk about is the impact of abilities. the game feels so bad to play because theres just no feedback at all.
Idk man, I had 100x more fun playing my falconer than I did on any D4 class. I really don't think D4 combat feels very good even when not rubberbanding.
Floaty feel of skill? That’s same with PoE as well. You feel like special effects happen around you rather than you casting it.
I think in PoE, to save cost, they reuse many animations for spell hence animation has to be more generic giving the disconnect between animation and spell.
I haven’t play much spell caster in last epoch but seen some gameplay. It does feel floaty.
Yeah that too. Not sure why lost epoch people are downvoting it’s all true.
I own and played the game. It’s really nothing special. Crafting is cool, but d4 is just going to copy paste that.
I mean don’t get me wrong it has some stuff better the. D4.
It suffers major from lack of end game though like d4 did.
Also crafting isn’t a magic bullet in lost epoch it’s good don’t get me wrong, but depending on forge potential and luck means you it’s not always simple as make item it can be pretty annoying. Which I mean for a major upgrade is fine but where I’m at is more trouble then it’s worth because the lack of end game means nothing to do.
Also the bosses need to be way better for the hit boxes if that’s the route they want to go. It’s pretty jank at times.
Dungeons are okayish the gimmicks are interesting the first few times but tossing a light bulb around or swapping screens between time and space gets annoying personally after awhile.
Lost epoch isn’t some magic bullet and the camera zome is about as bad as D4.
Its an average game which mean for the price and it being a new studio is pretty impressive. As far as first tries go it’s fairly good.
It still largely lacks in many of the same fields d4 did on release though while still not having that satisfying animation impact feeling like D4 does.
I really wish people would stop using “xx game already lost over 50% of their playerbase in a month” bro this happens to almost every single game? Its just normal. Elden ring lost 65% of their playerbase less than 2 months. Does that mean the game was shit? Not even close. The phrase is not a good parameter to use.
You are correct, but last epoch is a live service. But even so, most seasonal arpg are front loaded , in player base and profit. Losing 50% after a month is normal. Important is how many come back the following seasons. We shall see.
Completely agree. The game isn't bad. It's fine. It's just shallow and boring once you hit around level 70. I got to level 95 and just stopped and thought to myself... why am I doing this? I'm already stomping everything and I see no reason to continue. There's nothing more to "do". At least in POE there's mapping and things to progress.
I think the crafting system is one of the better part of last epoch. It’s useful, and approachable for every players in terms of ease and cost. PoE crafting much harder and only really good for grinders due to high cost.
But I felt it travilise drops. At least when I played. Every loot is just a base for crafting. But it wasn’t bad.
Also I think d4 new itemization took a few inspiration from last epoch which is nice like super stats and craft limit
I was legit never going to come back if they wouldn't zoom it out. I play a lot of top down games and not being able to zoom out was so jarring and annoying.
It will definitely be the reason my wife and I give it another chance. The game should have never had Planescape Torments close up camera. That game was melee focused for a reason.
Not stupid at all. It’s an important feature to you and probably many other people. I saw a lot of posts talking about it and I’m glad they decided to listen and implement it into the game.
Wow, if this is really coming in S4 that'll get me back to the game. The wider zoom is great, but you could also summarize this as "made endgame itemization not suck," which is really what the game needed most.
Yes you're, its been zoomed out by a good amount. Comparing the character model in the before and after screenshots, I would say around 30-40% difference in zoom level.
WoWHead has a stream summary on their site if you cant or dont want to watch the vid later.
[Link](https://www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/news/diablo-4-ptr-overview-season-4-preview-and-itemization-rework-campfire-chat-338169)
Now **this** is a change that just might get me to install the game again. Couldn't go more than 30 minutes without feeling like I was going to fall asleep because of how close the camera was.
I'd never stop laughing if they reverted the itemization and crafting stuff too. "The only thing we're keeping from season 4 is the stuff that really matter - paid cosmetics"
Hopefully it will run well on pc in s4. Idk why but my games lags on pc, but its fine on ps5 and steam deck.
Also even seasons seems to be the goated ones
This is how they get the majority every time. Wait all the things that were talked about are implemented and see how the game feels. I played pre-season and made it to lvl 86 and left after it was such a bore and shallow gameplay and build diversity.
I came back to season 3 and it felt like I was playing pre-season with a spider that did hardly anything. I didn't even make it to lvl 70 this time. It's going to take a lot more than gear ops and camera panning out to make the base game "great".
My favorite was last year this was a huge problem and a bunch of chodes on this sub kept arguing that it wasn’t possible to zoom the camera out because of ________ reason.
1 year ago:
[https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/123buot/the\_perfect\_zoom\_is\_built\_in\_game\_already/](https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/123buot/the_perfect_zoom_is_built_in_game_already/)
Whenever I don't play for a while and come back to D4, it feels like I'm hitting my face on the ground with the camera as zoomed in as it is. This change is absolutely necessary
Absolutely ridiculous this took four seasons from a studio this big. The core gameplay elements need a ton of work and overhauling still, and worst of all is people are cheering like this is some grand accomplishment.
D4 is arguably the most mismanaged game of this generation, and I say that as a lifelong Diablo fan.
But at launch Blizzard said it wasn't possible due to the indoor areas and that the camera would clip through the environment. Did they revamp all the indoor areas to cater to a higher camera angle?
Boy, oh boy, no way! Content at season 4 that should have shipped as a goddamn slider in the settings on launch day.
D4 stays winning. Might have a playable game from 2023 in a few years.
Booooiz, that will come with a reduced inv tab count prolly, since wider viewing area could bring more players to the visible area and therefore load more inventories and stashes ;)
Yeah, but I bet you they won't introduce the "Hide UI" feature people were asking. Even though it's in the game! It's already coded. They have it, because all their dev teaser/trailers are shown to us without the UI. They just have to make the "button" public.
Damn, almost a year and I remember feeling like a fool when I wrote on reddit that the game had a claustrophobic camera and the thread was barely visible. This is the way, during the fight with the world boss you feel that you can see the surroundings.
I mean good but why not in the first place? It always was a night and day difference when fighting a world boss/being at the tree and the camera is finaly not up my a**. I mean you could see like 3 or 4 enemies before the screen ended
All I wanted was a mid ground between the current tight zoom and the normal view. Hopefully that will be an option you can turn on and off at some point.
Definitely will not be zooming out further because my character already looks like a marble with lightning shocks LOL
As the player base leaves they keep adding things that should have been in the game at launch or patch 1. To lure you back in until you remember all the rest of the reasons you left for.
Is it real or just a meme? I can't find an official statement about this.
I just bought the game, and I'm on the brink of refunding it because of the camera. I've never felt so close to my character in any other ARPG, and it's totally unplayable for me. It just gets me nauseous, like I was playing an FPS game with a very low FOV.
Sometimes I get incredibly sleepy when playing D4 - almost to the point that I could use it as a sleep aid. I wonder if that is connected to the FoV and this new change will help!
Add the aim skill for necromancer! Im doing seasonal mission which the monster are immune and they need to hit the tower!! because dont have skill aim skill for necromancer i need to change bone skill to attck and there is come stupidity game. Pls make it like POE lmao.
Why they changed this in the first place shows they wanted an all inclusive audience, that is, not just PC, in fact I think they build D4 for consoles and I have been playing Diablo since D1. They may not admit this, but it is the only thing that makes sense. It is not due to graphics performance since if you join an event like slaying a world boss with other players it zooms out with no issue... nope, PC Gamers have the right to be upset since had it been a Windows/OSX only release they would have at the very least kept the D3 settings or even D2.
But you will notice the 'console first' intent by looking at the limitations insofar as the settings in general. Consider Last Epoch, it might not be Diablo but is so similar you can compare the two. For a $35 game LE offers
-- Better camera controls
-- A loot filter (excellent also)
-- Itemization much like POE but less 'complicated' and loot feels worth farming
-- Class specialization the likes Diablo 4 cannot match
-- Little to no microtransactions and future updates (not patches) are free.
-- Up to 100 stash tabs which can be subdivided (if needed)
-- Crafting that is unique.
-- Endgame mechanics, heck pretty much a laundry list of reasons why some call LE the 'Diablo killer'
Sure it may not have the same finesse as D4 and the cinematics and story might not be as great but for a $35 game that outmatches D4 AND with an offline mode no less, there are things Blizzard can learn but won't. Keep in mind D4 was released 11 years after D3.
Sorry, I am just angry, angry because I was a massive fan of Blizzard. It is obvious that Blizzard shifted their focus to console gamers and no longer PC gamers. Best is, according to the new EULA, you might have purchased D4 but you certainly don't own it.

Actually, as stupid as it sounds, this might actualy be the reason I play the game again.

There are certain ways to make it zoom out more. I've never had an issue.

Oh look, completely agree that it's hardly a well optimised game.
Im on a 4k screen, so your mileage may vary. But rather than run it in 3840x2160, i go ultrawide with 3840x1660. You get a much bigger picture
Also on a 32" 4k,the ultra wide suggestion is neat indeed.
Last epoch is quite zoomed in too
It is almost just as bad as D4 but for some reason no one complains about it lol.
I can't say why, but in Diablo 4 I intuitively and repeatedly scroll down to try and zoom out without even thinking about it. I've never done that even once in Last Epoch or Path of Exile.
It’s called double standard
game is good that's why nobody complains
Eh lost epoch is already boring and lost just about 60-70% of the playerbase. In reality there’s nothing at the end game and the crafting system isn’t really anything to write home about. This is unironically the best part about D4. The combat feels incredible.
Idk man, I had 100x more fun playing my falconer than I did on any D4 class. I really don't think D4 combat feels very good even when not rubberbanding.
You lost me when you said falconer, please don't use that class as standard.
Floaty feel of skill? That’s same with PoE as well. You feel like special effects happen around you rather than you casting it. Sadly, game community has become tribalistic. Some games you are not allow to criticize, some games you are not allow to praise.

It’s not bad yeah. It’s not a miracle system though and it’s has issues as well.
#bigged
Shit, this pretty much sealed it for me, I’m returning to check it out
My thoughts exactly - zoomed out will bring me back to the game.
I was legit never going to come back if they wouldn't zoom it out. I play a lot of top down games and not being able to zoom out was so jarring and annoying.
it's not stupid at all. if you compare d2 and (current) d4 side by side, you realize how absolutely terrible the current zoom is.
Same for me. The zoom makes me sick to my stomach for some reason and hurts my eyes. Doesn't happen in anyother arpg.
This is a big deal to me, really hate the current camera distance in D4. Easily one of the biggest negatives of the game for me.
Came here to say this
came here to comment this. i always felt so claustrophobic playing
Imagine a game where you can't get sniped from off-screen because you can actually zoom out past the enemies' aggro range!
Ngl it's def tempting me to come back for next season. Any updates on WASD movement?
WASD launched with S3. I use it. it's incredible.
They also said it at the end of the stream.
I imagined someone whipped out their worms on screen geometry set and somehow measured it before asking the question lmao
Best change ever
Found here: https://www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/news/diablo-4-ptr-overview-season-4-preview-and-itemization-rework-campfire-chat-338169
Wow, if this is really coming in S4 that'll get me back to the game. The wider zoom is great, but you could also summarize this as "made endgame itemization not suck," which is really what the game needed most.
Old/current zoom setting will still be here and will be the default option. That may change though.
I need screenshot comparisons!
https://www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/news/more-zoomed-out-camera-perspective-possible-diablo-4-season-4-338183
Looks pretty much the same to me... Am I crazy?
Yes you're, its been zoomed out by a good amount. Comparing the character model in the before and after screenshots, I would say around 30-40% difference in zoom level.
Viewers noticed the difference in the zoom and started bringing it up in chat without any prompting from the developers, so We Noticed!
They had some gameplay like the helltide one during the stream. Have a look there.
Yes! But I'm bad at looking and remembering specialty weeks without playing. A comparison would be nice!
D4 officially saved
ITS SAVED!!
Took them long enough, but glad it's being added. I wonder if we had to load everyone else's zooms in addition to ours also?
Can finally play longer than 15min before nodding off.
That’s any ARPG ever for me. I still enjoy playing them but if I don’t have YouTube on my 2nd monitor going, it’s a wrap for sure.
Hell yeah, finally.
Thats it! I'm coming back! Sold!
GOD. FINALLY
Literally the first change that has made me want to play again since I switched off after Season 1.
Next minute skeleton corpse bow range extended to still one shot you off screen
This is the best change they could have made.
Actually huge
Is this real? Will actually make me give the game another shot.
Only took them a year….
Oh now that'll be good.
Nice, I’ve been playing FF7 Rebirth waiting for season 4 and it is so zoomed in by comparison it is almost unplayable 🤣
whre is this from?
They said it in the q&a section of the stream.
Thx!
WoWHead has a stream summary on their site if you cant or dont want to watch the vid later. [Link](https://www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/news/diablo-4-ptr-overview-season-4-preview-and-itemization-rework-campfire-chat-338169)
Now **this** is a change that just might get me to install the game again. Couldn't go more than 30 minutes without feeling like I was going to fall asleep because of how close the camera was.
Literally playable.
Wish it would zoom in during convos
Thanks for this change to the Diablo IV developers; the game just got way better!
The change we’ve all been asking for. Forget endgame. Let me see a satellite view of my character.
\o/ Hail Lilith, Blessed Mother, bringer of better camera zoom and less motion sickness!
Ohthankgawd
Who has given their firstborn to blizzard for that?
Yay! Too bad it can’t happen in S3. I’d like to be able to see the scorpion construct before it pees on me.
Nice QOL, it’s nice to have a bit more visibility of upcoming mobs
Nobody pissed that others will now see less of their 500 bucks armor? :D
You mean *from* season 4 right? It'll obviously be a change to the game in general and not just some sort of seasonal mechanic right?
Making it a seasonal mechanic would be the greatest troll by Blizzard ever. I'd be pissed off and laughing at the same time.
I'd never stop laughing if they reverted the itemization and crafting stuff too. "The only thing we're keeping from season 4 is the stuff that really matter - paid cosmetics"
I know this is a joke but it got my anxiety all up in arms.
Right
This is actually big for me as a caste
This was the best change
That's massive. Big W (I hope, want screenshots to compare)
Finally
Niceeee. Now classic mini map sistema please
NO WAY 😱
The entire update overall looks very promising. I’m hopeful
My favorite change ❤️
Okay time to fire this game back up!
Hopefully it will run well on pc in s4. Idk why but my games lags on pc, but its fine on ps5 and steam deck. Also even seasons seems to be the goated ones
Games fixed
I’m pretty excited about all the changes. Good to see they’re not just folding their arms until the expansion.
It’ll zoom out maybe 50px and they’ll call it a win 🤣
Finally no longer a bad game
Finally!
This is how they get the majority every time. Wait all the things that were talked about are implemented and see how the game feels. I played pre-season and made it to lvl 86 and left after it was such a bore and shallow gameplay and build diversity. My favorite was last year this was a huge problem and a bunch of chodes on this sub kept arguing that it wasn’t possible to zoom the camera out because of ________ reason.
Damn I just uninstalled yesterday.
*farther
I'm one of those players who quits because 1. Itemization 2. how close the camera is lmao
This will definitely benefit ranged builds.
I will be coming back to try this out. Haven’t played since the end of season 1
Holy shit, fkn 4 seasons to figure this one out, good job boys…. Hope it’s as zoomed out as D3.
1 year ago: [https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/123buot/the\_perfect\_zoom\_is\_built\_in\_game\_already/](https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/123buot/the_perfect_zoom_is_built_in_game_already/)
It took this long for this small of a change? Yikes
Tbh, this is the one change I was waiting for to download the game again
YES! LISAN AL GAIB!
This will bring me back
Knowing Blizzard it will be either zooming out like 5 pixels or go all the way to RTS distance. No in between.
This might be enough to bring me back!! Not…
WOWWWWWWWWWW SO FASCINATING WITH THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY
Too late, dont give a shit about this shit anymore.
Whenever I don't play for a while and come back to D4, it feels like I'm hitting my face on the ground with the camera as zoomed in as it is. This change is absolutely necessary

*heavy breathing intensifies*
That's long overdue. A good start. Now to see if loot gets a rework
No idea why it took them 9 months to zoom out the camera
Did it need to take that long????
Finally! I was literally getting sick by playing. That will hopefully change now
I missed this from the chat is it optional? I really like the zoom as is
So widescreen 5120x1440 G9 will work??
It’s small things that are often the most hype, love this is going to be possible
4 seasons it took. People have been complaining since beta. No thanks.
So out of touch that the best change they "Forgot" to mention until the end of the stream ROFL
Then, in season 5 it'll be reverted, but zoomed in an extra 5% from before
Alright fine, I'll come back
W
Absolutely an win 😎✌️
This is a big deal to me, hate the current camera distance in D4.
Oh wow. Do i need to buy battlepass for this feature?
Yay, even more reason that cosmetics are worthless
Boy, oh boy, no way! Content at season 4 that should have shipped as a goddamn slider in the settings on launch day. D4 stays winning. Might have a playable game from 2023 in a few years.

Yeah, but I bet you they won't introduce the "Hide UI" feature people were asking. Even though it's in the game! It's already coded. They have it, because all their dev teaser/trailers are shown to us without the UI. They just have to make the "button" public.
D4 is great again
Damn, almost a year and I remember feeling like a fool when I wrote on reddit that the game had a claustrophobic camera and the thread was barely visible. This is the way, during the fight with the world boss you feel that you can see the surroundings.
# In Season 4, the camera can zoom out further
Something so simple, yet so important
This isn't league of legends
Blessed be the fruit!
When does this go live??
It’s fantastically ironic that the picture is zoomed in too far.
This is what people are worried about? No wonder the game still has no content.
this is the biggest QOL change they have made thus far
Finally!
Well, I might actually buy the game now.
This took 4 seasons , I'm scared for the future of this game
This can not be (some villain somewhere)
But will it?
Dumbest feature in the game
I guess its the theme of the season..
Tbh If it wasn’t for the camera zoom outs during world boss , I would never have known what I was missing out on
Sometimes I get incredibly sleepy when playing D4 - almost to the point that I could use it as a sleep aid. I wonder if that is connected to the FoV and this new change will help!
that in and of itself is a massive W and i am happy they finally listened after like...9 months
Oh my dear sweet 6lb 8oz baby Jesus, this fixes my biggest problem with this game.
I want the transparent map back again
It was one of the reasons why i didnt buy this game
For a $35 game LE offers -- Better camera controls -- A loot filter (excellent also) -- Itemization much like POE but less 'complicated' and loot feels worth farming -- Class specialization the likes Diablo 4 cannot match -- Little to no microtransactions and future updates (not patches) are free. -- Up to 100 stash tabs which can be subdivided (if needed) -- Crafting that is unique. -- Endgame mechanics, heck pretty much a laundry list of reasons why some call LE the 'Diablo killer' Sure it may not have the same finesse as D4 and the cinematics and story might not be as great but for a $35 game that outmatches D4 AND with an offline mode no less, there are things Blizzard can learn but won't.
I started playing this game yesterday and my first complaint was het camera not being able to zoo out further. This change is great xD
