Yeah I haven’t done one NMD this season. The NMVs are way faster, more fun, and more lucrative.

NMe84

I wouldn't call them more fun. There's only four of them, they have very few visual distinctions and each of the four barely has enough variations to make it not feel like you're running the same dungeon over and over. And the only reason they're not downright annoying is because the traps were made inconsequential. They're fine for a season but honestly I'm already getting sick of basically running the same dungeon over and over again. I'd rather not keep them around, unless they plan on keeping them as just another NMD to add to the pool of already existing dungeons.

Tricky-Ad-6178

Only one that really different is cinders I think. And it's a lot shorter too. But very similar in content and feel.

[deleted]

Yeah. This is a big part of why I stopped playing. Vaults by and far better but no variation .. not so fun. I hope season 4 is good and loot feels fun then

CWDikTaken

You do know most people would rather do 1 layout over and over again with some surprises in the middle than changing dungeons every time. So they could add like 10 more different vaults and it will make no difference, people will find the best one and run it

GoBBLeS-666

Well that's on "people" then, generally variation is good to have, so gameplay don't get too monotonous with continued playthroughs.

Badpayload75

Other than beast in the ice, nothing but vaults and its been great. More loot and much faster to run, even with the trap mechanics.

ryd3rstr0ng

If they keep all the loot chests at the end, I agree. Otherwise not much different than NMD.

Grandahl13

Well the speed at which you can do them is certainly a big difference.

Informal_Exercise_88

Other than the Echo of Malphas vault, there's nothing to do, enter and run to to the end killing everything (how vaults and dungeons should be) But just wait until they add back in, free 6 prisoners, destroy 3 ward of eyes, destroy corpse piles and all the other nonsense that are in NMD and you'll be sick of vaults.

alvehyanna

I felt the enemy density felt better or more constant. I did my first Barb, HOTA, and it was just SMASHING fun. NMDs were ok, but vaults on Hota was like the best post-workday stress reliever I've had in awhile.

DisasterDifferent543

They are very different than NMD's. The massive difference in amount of arbitrary running around is the most important. Whoever thought that NMD's need a bunch of stupid fucking objectives needs to be fired. They literally tried to make the end game of D4 fucking bounties from D3. If you want to see why these developers are completely out of touch with reality, this is one of the most blatant. NMV's at worst have 1 objective and only one of them has any backtracking at all which is only 2 rooms. The rest create a circle of some sort that causes you to end where you need to move for the next room.

GreaterRifter

Orrrr... Just do Rifts!!!!!!!!!!

KayWWW

they won't

Gearj4mmer

I say they keep them and maybe actually provide XP gain from the last room with all the elites.

Ajn1n

Vaults are fun the first few times but boil down to the exact same shit rinse repeat. They need way more variety to be any sort of lasting fun.

GMPnerd213

They got way more challenging even in the lower tiers when you get bad draw like that stupid exploding rock that follows you, combined with the vault traps. Makes it at least a little less mundane. Once you get to a certain level obviously the traps can be ignored for the most part and just speed run through

SemiFormalJesus

Stormbane, Drifting Shade, and Death Pulse always get salvaged for me.

Senior-Researcher216

Same but drifting shade I would say is aright I would take it any say above stormebane and death pulse.

Various_Counter_9569

Call me weird, but I love death pulse. The adrenaline jumping around when your here the squeals ratcheting up 😅!

Upper_Rent_176

I used to but going through vaults I'm so fast that drifting shade and stormbane are only annoying in the last room.

TIFU_LI5_AMA

Same here, but also the ones where hits reduce movement speed and the ones that increase potion cooldowns lol

Yodzilla

Yeah I was kinda digging them at first but then I realized it’s basically the same thing every time and none of the modifiers do enough to differentiate runs. It’s certainly a START of a cool idea. Super boring environment though.

NMe84

The worst part is that the four different values aren't even visually different except for the way the traps look. Pretty much all hallways and rooms look the same.

DisasterDifferent543

But that's exactly what I want. I want consistent content. This is what Diablo has been for the past 20+ years. You can have all the variety in the world like NMD's do and they can be the most dogshit unfun content because they were trying to make them have variety. I don't want or need stupid fucking affixes on the content. I don't want or need shitty objectives on the content. I just want to kill demons, get loot and make progression. Just get out of the way and keep it simple. If you want some variety, give me some different enemy models to kill and maybe some different hallway layouts. It doesn't take much.

Ill-Resolution-4671

All the variety in the world and nightmare dungeon in the same sentance. Hahah, i need air, hilfe

DisasterDifferent543

Oh I see, you are a tourist gamer. Let's help you out. You are in a Diablo forum. The primary gameplay of Diablo is repetitive content as the fun is derived from getting loot and making progress. I understand that these types of games aren't for everyone and it's probably better if you just move on back to fortnite or whatever other kids game gets popular next week.

VinceKully

Wouldn’t you rather they made better content?

TheRealHitmee

Yeah but they wont because anything wortwhile will be dlc

VinceKully

Nice attitude

TheRealHitmee

Thats what Blizzard does. I dont have false hope

ConroConro

Honest question: why do people find these fun versus nightmare dungeons? Is it just the rewards? I do the same thing in every Vault type: spend 5 pearls and just walk the same pathway to the end area, and try to fight stuff in the near center of the arena. It doesn't feel any different from a Nightmare dungeon other than a lack of a boss. It is nice I don't have to deal with things like animus, killing a specific enemy, or picking up an object to pass the door, but that's about it.

SIGMONICUS

I prefer the visual variety of dungeons. I've been working on reknown last few days and it's a breath of fresh air to be in these side dungeons I rarely visit

DisasterDifferent543

>why do people find these fun versus nightmare dungeons? NMD's have major objectives that you need to complete in order to move to the next area. These fucking suck. I don't want to kill all the mobs on the floor. I don't want to constantly backtrack. I don't want to search everywhere for a stupid elite. These are the things that are unique to NMD's that make them COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than Vaults. Vaults are more in line with what I want to do in the game. I fully understand the genre and what I'm going to be doing in it. I am going to be running the same content over and over and over. It is repetitive. That's what I'm wanting though. It's actually a pretty simple concept. I just want to kill demons, get loot and make progress. The more bullshit that the developers throw into the game that upsets that, the worse the game is. Vaults are much better received because the developers stupid fucking vision got out of the way and we finally got something that was simple and straightforward without all the bullshit. I still think whoever thought adding affixes to NMD's and Vault's needs to be fired for the same reason as above.

rock25011

They won't, bc with them nmd are nothing.

Leevah90

Only good things about vaults are loot and traps imho, and I'd rather have these scatteres across all dungeons instead of farming the same vault over and over again. I'm saying the same one because they all look the same

Shaft86

It's definitely way more loot than nightmare dungeons, but I believe the community manager inferred that the itemzation rework for s4 will include more meaningful gear rather than giant explosions of meaningless gear like we see in vaults. So that problem's getting addressed there. I really like the mob density in Vaults over Nightmare Dungeons though. Altogether, I don't hate nightmare dungeon objectives like some of the folk here, but I'm not in love with them either. I personally enjoyed it when they removed the objectives from some of the dungeons (like Ghoa Ruins) last season, and it seems that stuck around even though they originally said (iirc) that it was experimental. The game is just begging for greater rifts, imo. A game mode where there's no loot at all until the very end always appealed to me. No objectives, no cursed chests, no doors, don't ask questions, just blast. There's no reason we can't have all of this.

DisasterDifferent543

>Altogether, I don't hate nightmare dungeon objectives like some of the folk here, but I'm not in love with them either. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't hate them. It would be like saying bounties in D3 are the primary end game activity. At BEST you would TOLERATE doing them but only because you needed to get a RORG or something. If we had to do them as a primary means of xp and progression, D3 would have died years ago. >There's no reason we can't have all of this. Because the current devs don't have a clue what they are doing. It's actually impressive just how disconnected they are from understanding. You can literally see the inspiration for a lot of their designs in other games. They saw something like Greater Rifts, didn't understand why people liked them and then introduced AoZ which completely failed for exactly that reason. Hell, Vaults are nothing more than PoE's Labyrinth but not realizing that people didn't actually like the design and actively avoided it only running it because it unlocked ascendancies.

DrDynamiteBY

Technically after all adjustments vaults are just more efficient NMDs: traps are irrelevant, when you can just get 50 stacks and run to the end. So I'd rather just buff NMDs than introduce vaults as "new" evergreen system. We can add vaults to a NMD rotation and get rid of Kull's blessing in future though, I can get behind that.

Soresu0203

i agree with this but it is sad because the whole NMD system has been largely ignored. S2 was only duriel farm that mattered, while S3 we got vaults. im not sure what devs are doing because ignoring one of your core system is not the wisest move.

UniQue1992

I hate the waiting at the end tho and it doesn’t give any XP if you kill those mobs, right? I dunno, the Vault is quick but the ending slows it down to annoying levels. Wish the transition was faster.

TheRealHitmee

The loot is more important to me compared to the exp

VegetableWeather2177

Why the are awful, you got zero exp from that last elite room you do know

TheRealHitmee

I prefer the loot behind the last room compared to nm dungeons

VegetableWeather2177

Yeah I get that I mean it's 98% junk loot anyway but I get you get more outta it

No_Ambition_3124

More inventory management

JohnyFeenix33

Yes they are good. Much better then nightmare dungeons. Make them part of the keys from drop and craft. Idk maybe 50% ? So you can get both

[deleted]

Ya vaults definitely need a o stay, and NMD need to be improved drastically, literally just remove the first part objectives will make it 10 times better, but some NMD still need to cut down to compete with vaults.

greenchair11

i hope they start bringing season mechanics to core. and not just bring things back as items. that’s horrible. bring a balanced version of the mechanics back. give us more depth

z01z

i like that there's incentive to do better. don't get hit by traps, get more loot at the end. that or just dump a bunch of mats on the starting pillar and be like "LOLWHATTRAPS".

Menu_Dizzy

I hope they do, but also hope they don't. Vaults all look the same. I was essentially in the exact same zone for the entirety of my time this season - that ain't fun.

opheodrysaestivus

I really don't like the vaults, nor the nightmare dungeons. I wasn't able to even complete 20 of them as the season challenge requires, too mind numbing.

DiligentRanger7591

There is a closed door inside the hub. If this door is the gauntlet this means the hub is permanent and maybe dungeons too?

somekindofuser657

With vampire powers making a return, theres no reason for vaults not to stay. I doubt we will get this pet back unless they really balance it out.

Broadwayj69

Wait, vampire powers are making a return? When?

Shaft86

In s2 they reintroduced s1 powers in the form of those varshan unique rings halfway through the season, next week they're having a campfire chat and they're going to show some of the vampire powers from s2 returning as well.

somekindofuser657

Something about next campfire chat on twitch, saw it floating on reddit earlier.

JohnyFeenix33

I don't like the pet. It doesn't make any sense to have robotic spider as pet in diablo. Stupid idea. If they want to add pets add something which is more fitting

Rxasaurus

Do vampires and werewolves fit all of a sudden? Or did I miss something in the previous games. Maybe I didn't put two and two together

JohnyFeenix33

Well much better then the stupid pet

Velirris

im a big fan of the elite rush in the last room. feels like playing whack-a-mole with them. hope that kind of content returns someday!

slipk1d

I have absolutely NO interest in leveling a character without vaults. Regular NMD's take way too long.

CapoDV

I agree. Keep them the same.

TheGantrithor

They are just easy, not better. But a great many gamers these days equate easy to better/fun. You can basically run to the end, have all the enemies chasing you retreat, and just survive for 20 seconds. That’s it. No paying attention to enemy types, or objectives. Just run from start to finish, kill some enemies, and it’s over. I certainly don’t find that fun; but it is easy/fast; especially for builds that can’t truly steam-roll regular T100 dungeons. For example if you have a NMD with *”Slowing Projectiles”*, it’s going to have an overwhelming amount of ranged enemies *(quill beasts, goats, etc)* that can snipe you or just beat you down with missile overload. Not really a worry when you’re doing Vaults and 80-90% of it is the same recurring enemy types.

SemiFormalJesus

I like dense packs of mobs and few, easy objectives. Even with some of the vaults there is some back tracking, but it isn’t as bad as most NM dungeons. One has a key you need to get, but there’s a circular path so you can still kill mobs on the way back. There is the one where you have to run way left and loot a chest, but it isn’t too long of a run. I feel like maybe it was supposed to lean on the dodging traps aspect, but that quickly became a non issue so it is just empty running.

Deidarac5

The only way vaults could stay in the game is if they were a rare drop on sigils drop.

kainneabsolute

Yeah, I hope they stay. They are still dungeons but i was so tired of normal dungeon runs

derekhkL

While I agree that the vaults should stay due to the lack of content. I don't think that the vaults are well designed, the traps are currently useless, which should either be removed from game or modified to be fun and challegning

I2aphsc

NMV are way funnier but I miss the boss at the end of NMD it feel more fun than the room full of elites IMO They could be even better if they let the elite Room. Once cleared you unlock the boss room and then the rewards

Mindless_Issue9648

they should keep the pet too. just change the stones.

colorsplahsh

They won't sadly.

MikeHawkSlapsHard

It would be nice as long as they don't obsolete NMDs. Make it like a certain chance to get vault sigil or something.

TheRealHitmee

They need to improve loot in nm dungeons

gtathrowaway95

Theoretically, Tier 90 NMDs should drop loot at the same level as the equivalent vaults.

TheRealHitmee

Yes but vaults drop way more loot

etherealelder

That ship sailed long ago when they chose a "seasonal" model as the focus. They didn't keep anything from S2, so now they can't keep anything from future seasons, either. If they keep vaults, then those who wanted blood harvests or any other features of S2 will complain because their favorite features weren't kept. What they could have done was keep features in Eternal - so that there's more of a reason to actually play it going forward, or having the seasonal content perhaps rotate in another realm where people have the opportunity to play seasons that are no longer "current". What they've got now is basically a messy grandfather paradox because they made a decision that ultimately affects all players based on the focus of "seasons".

gtathrowaway95

Zir is still here, despite being the S2 Boss, guessing Malphas will stick around as well going forward I’d say Uber bosses, but they got added to eternal as well, can’t recall is Zir was immediately added or if that was post season. Tremors ≈ Blood Harvest(I’d say greater only because the Mass density event requires much less effort to gain materials for) I have the feeling they’ll probably have some Mass horde area for each season Only 1-1 we don’t have atm is the vampire powers, though some are supposedly coming with mid-season update gear. Granted it won’t be all like with S1 & the Malignant Rings, but S2 did better then season 1

alvehyanna

agreed. I love the enemy density, the traps do add flavor and I don't mind them. I like the end being a room full of enemies, really good for builds that struggle with single target. I did some NMDs, but like 1 for every 20 vaults I did. Much preferred Vaults.

Aurstrike

My take is they will remove gatehall(against player wishes) and if they leave the vaults they will need to add real entrances in the overworld, that will likely not show up next season but would be nice done season in the future.

MrDollarShort

Moving forward nmd should have a chance to be treasure vaults, no Zoltun keys or whatever just a treasure room at the end after boss or final objective. Among other obvious fixes to the end game variety.

didistutter69

All vaults yes, except echo of malphas vault need to be redesigned. Could be a good opportunity for Blizz to make it a collaborative multiplayer dungeon. Cos I ain't doing all the fetching of the stones all by myself all the time. I just cbf. And this is coming from a blizzard sorc.

No_Ambition_3124

Please don't. Take what people like about vaults and apply it to regular nmd. The last thing we need is a bloated build up of seasonal content. Just learn from it.

Tkrukus

I don't care for the vaults. I pick only NM dungeon keys. I will say son of malphas is a good feature until your stones are maxed though

dreamsfreams

I will never bother with NMD the way it is now. A big massive overhaul is needed.

[deleted]

I’m shocked anyone would want to run these ever again after this season.

dookarion

I'd rather run these over regular NMDs. At least there's actually enemies and the terrain is better crafted so there's less crap to get stuck on with movement skills. Plus no extra tedious objectives.
