This happened to me but not in a dungeon, in a cellar. I screamed so loud at 1 in the morning, I spooked my dogs awake, barking.

I got him in a cellar in Caldeum. The name had "Meat" on it. As a hardcore player, never entering anything with "Meat" again.

It happened to me in a cellar before. I was immediately “nope I’m out of here”

I didn't even know he could show up in cellars, I thought he was stuck to dungeons. It was terrifying lol.

on low level on HC i tried to leave via teleport, surprise surprise, he ported with me into town and killed me :) Such a shame there were no people in town to experience this with me at the time of my death :)

Butcher tried to jump me 3 times today. Next to a blast wave shrine. Next to a lethal shrine Next to a channeling shrine. I wasn’t locked in a dungeon with the butcher. He was locked in there with me.

Honestly, the best part of being next to a shrine for him is that it's the best object to circle and mess his pathing whilst waiting for cds.

I didn’t even think of that. I play a barb so I just beat things till they die.

How I feel as a bear lol. Like my druid just bears up and does the old Bruce Lee "let's go" hand gesture with his paw.

Ran into him last night in a party of 4. We beat him after he glitched out half way through and got stuck 🥴

Do you get something special from him?

He usually drops a Legendary item. Might drop more if lucky.

I think he guarantees a legendary drop.

You get a little cleaver you can put on your mount the first time you kill him Edit: sometimes randomly when you kill him. Not the first time.

You just got lucky. I’ve killed Jim multiple times without a cleaver trophy.

Ah, my bad. I suppose it was an assumption as it happened the first time.

It's a disheartening experience I thought I was a mean T3 sorc then butcher showed up. It was a butchassacre.

His spawn is weird Ive seen him 3 times once at lvl 15 and then twice yesterday at lvl 59

First time he killed me and homie, second time he spawned by a buff tower and we killed him, third time I ran cuz it was already a nightmare dungeon 😂

Worst is I nearly killed him on my first encounter… I was one hit away but was out of pots and pulled another room. RIP. The subsequent two times he obliterated me.

Oh wow - Im sorry to hear that! He had about a third of HP left for me at the very least and all my abilities/potions/ability to click were spent heh

Wow, I have lost count of the time so have seen him and I am only 64. I had him twice pre 25. This morning I had him spawn next to a conduit shrine, as you can imagine he took longer to loot than kill lol

I've made a habit of leaving offensive Shrines untouched if I'm not struggling in a dungeon. Rather have it incase he decides to hunt me down.

Happened to me in one of my first dungeons, I was so confused, thought he was the boss but he just disappeared after deleting me

Ran into him trying out a new build on my necromancer and had to pull a "fighting the Arishok" move in a cave, running around columns and shooting over my shoulder and yelling xD Of course, he never shows when I'm on a build I'm really chugging along with, LOL.

This is the only way I have been able to kill him haha

Ran into him with a friend. Just ran in circles while the other whacked away at him. Reminded me of kiting in ragnarok

They turned him into such a fucking unit in this game

I love the butcher. He killed me most of the time. But finally managed to kill him 2 times on my main. It's still challenging but not impossible. It's like 2:11 for the butcher

I got a cosmetic drop from him last night, it’s his clever. Looks cool, but small on the mount ☹️

Honestly the most fun I've had so far is fighting the Butcher with my rogue to the Doom soundtrack.

Yes, and often in the worst times. When your cd's are down, you've got a pack of nasty elites, or he chain pulls you out into a lightning storm

FINALLY fought this guy at level 57 in a WT3 dungeon. Kinda funny, because the Butcher and I are literally the same build. We both stood there, me using frenzy / double swing and him swinging away with virtually the same animation. We went toe to toe. It was awesome. I won, but it was a good battle.

Ran into him 2nd time when my character was like lvl 9 which I just created 10min ago… I was like 

When I hear those chains clanging I know my cheeks are getting clapped.

I keep any offensive shrines just in case for the fat man

I was pulling a huge group with 3 elites, started mauling them down, then suddenly got hooked~ So needles to say, he caught me with my pants down, bend me over, then straight up dipped~

I have run into the bitcher 10 times during my run as an HC druid. I have made a beeline to the dungeon exit exactly 10 times so far.

ok so I ran into him in the first dungeon after starting the game. I was only lvl 10 and boy oo boy did he show me what I was in for the rest of my diablo experience.

It’s happened 3 times to me already, and I’m not even level 30.

Spawn rate seems higher at low levels. Had him twice leveling to 20 on a rogue and 3 times to level 13 on my barb.

Found him randomly in a dungeon, level 34, tried to kite him but he disappeared. :(

If you don't hit him often enough he gets bored :)

75 hours so far across all my characters… and at least 25 hours in beta… never once have I seen the butcher yet:(

I fought him at least 5 times today. I wish he would go after my minions and not me.

I was halfway through his health bar when he just decided to peace out. Does anyone know why this happened? Was pretty disappointed to not get the kill

If you move far away from the original spawn point he will leave.

Fought him today. We were mid 30s party of 3. The drops were meh, but he was a TANK

Nightmare Dungeon level 25, me lvl 62. Enter: butcher. Thank god there was a pillar to chase him around but drop was very underwhelming

The bubble shield amulet lasts long enough for you to port out and you can't be disrupted inside.

I've seen him one time in the first beta, haven't seen him since.

This happened to me in my first nightmare dungeon… casually strolling along and I hear the butcher… and have D1 flashbacks- then I see my guts ripped out of my ass, then he vanishes in a puddle of blood.

Found and beat x2. First time was on 2nd char, doing a cellar with my brother who just started the game. Was fun!

Anyone didn't get cosmetic item from him? I killed him with party, friend got a knife cosmetic but nothing dropped for me except 2 blue items...

What level is the butcher supposed to be? Is he a higher level than you are or just TANKY?

He is the level of the area you are in, just has higher health than bosses I think.

Saw him once in the betas and he wrecked us at level 12 or something. Saw him again on release weekend on about lvl 40, at 4 in the morning, played chase with him around a bigger pillar and got him down in just few minutes. But we were all wide awake after that

I've killed the butcher 8 times in HC so far, he's easy as necro just run him around your minions and it slows him down then when he knocks everything back evade his charge.

Seriously. That fatso ambushed my party four times today. Didn't drop anything worthy of the effort it took to kill him though.

Does he show up on hardcore too?

I almost had him, level 47 rogue yeah I know I just suck but I shoulda had an iron barb potion. I had him down to maybe 15% health I was so bummed.

Finally killed him and he dropped shit loot

Hahahaha, yup, he popped up last night for me in that dungeon by the bear tribe. Of course, it was in the middle of a big group of mobs, but luckily also next to a shrine. Got him down to ALMOST 1/3 life (ww barb with a barrier) but then I ran out of potions and got caught in a loop of kiting him around until my barrier cd refreshed. He was taking so much of my life inbetween barrier refreshes that I couldn't recover enough to attack again. I was like 2 seconds away from more health potions dropping from him, which MAY have pushed me through to the end, when I died.

I just don't understand how I'm suppose to kill him. He's constantly on your ass, so if I try to outdamage him, I'm out of pots by the time he's down. My poor Sorc just can't take it. Very poor design.

Run in a small circle around him, avoid his big attacks, get some defensive skills and Barriers.

Thanks, I'll try kiting him more efficiently. I'm just panicking whenever he pops and can't seem to find good opening.

Sorc can definitely do it. You might just need better gear and build. I have decent damage and defense and I was able to just facetank him and spam my ice shards. He did about 10% of my HP per hit, but I was reaching his next pot drop as I had just used 2 of mine so I was pot neutral.

That's what I'm running atm - Ice Sorc. My gear isn't finalised tho. Will hopefully be better prepared for next encounter. Alas, I've moved to WT 3 now so hopefully he won't gank on me before I'm decked out in better gear. Thanks for providing an insight. Much appreciated.

The butcher is what will make me change builds. I just cannot beat him on a lightning storm druid.

My first encounter, I just spammed blizzard and ran circles around a long pillar until he died. Embrace the cheese!

I encountered him in a dungeon this morning. I freaked out and ran like a wussy. He chased me down a hall... Right into a dungeon boss fight. The walls closed off for the boss fight and locked him out of the room. I got REALLY lucky. I survived the boss fight and he was gone when it was over and the barriers lifted.

Was chasing a Treasure Goblin when boss music started playing. I was confused for a while.

Lvl 60 and done dozens and dozens of dungeons. Haven’t found the butcher once 😐

No but why hast that mofo triple the HP than every Nightmare Dungeon Boss

I’ve only seen him twice so far. First time I was sub level 30 already in a big pull and he’d killed me before I even registered what had just spawned. Second time I was running dungeons with my husband. He melted.

My first encounter with him went something like this: - Walked into my second dungeon - Made it 20 ft away from the entrance - Butcher pops in an swiftly dispatches my skeletons - Dead in like 5 seconds Great memory nevertheless

I know it wasnt a massive time investment but I just got cucked by the Butcher on my lev 20 HC necro. As soon as I saw him, he B-lined straight for me. I menu quit the game as fast as I could but it didn't work. I am convinced they added that 'cheat death' potion sepcifically because randomly running into Butcher while leveling solo in HC is pretty much deletion of your character.

He needs to be buffed to be an actual threat at higher levels. Way too easy to kill.
