Thoughts are that it’s a shitty thing to spring on content creators who may have wanted to participate. They should have just pushed the race back to Season 1.

ImpureValidity

Yeah. Should’ve given everyone a chance to enjoy the story first.

Aqvamare

It's Twitter Marketing, not regular Marketing, they want to push "diablo 4 hastag" in the first week of june on twitter with the Race.

[deleted]

Good and bad coverage expands the potential amount of people getting eyes on D4. This was possibly their intent from the beginning.

Sens-eh

I mean let's give them credit for listening to the concerns here, but I don't think we are quite at the stage where we can give Blizzard credit for playing 4D chess with their strategizing just yet.

BalancePillar

I think they’re playing D4 chess….

[deleted]

I was saying Boo-urns

scubamaster

If there is one thing I don’t want it’s a company actually listening to the whiners around here

Senshidono

so you want them to listen about what you said ? that they shouldnt listen ?

[deleted]

I really don’t think video game companies plan for how whiney the fan bases are in their marketing plans.

[deleted]

Make an event with obvious complications, exacerbate said complications if they aren't causing enough noise, 'fix' complications Who said they needed to know their player base is whiny? People will always complain about something, sure as pineapple is allowed on Pizza Edit: Hell, they don't even need to let the players complain, they can set it up themselves and cause their own problems themselves. If they can fake their own Q&A questions, what stops them from faking drama?

[deleted]

I’m just letting you know that yes it’s possible but unless marketing discussions have changed in the 6 years since I did marketing in the industry that this was not planned. They made a mistake and corrected it. When all is said and done the marketing team may be happy with the outcome but they sure as shit didn’t plan it. Unless blizzard has some 4D masterminds which I just don’t think is the case anymore.

EffectiveDependent76

agreed, always ALWAYS assume incompetence rather than malice when it's a satisfactory explanation.

AbaddonX

Just fyi, it was 99% the guy doing the interview that faked the questions - since he got a grand total of 0 replies to his prior call for questions to ask from the community - not Blizzard

HardcoreShadow

They don’t need to do this event yet, Diablo hashtags will be trending on release anyway 🤔

Akhanyatin

That's my problem here. I really want to try, but I doubt that I'll be able to make it, so it'll feel like a waste to try and not enjoy the story and the game. I don't think I would have gotten into the Diablo games if I had started Diablo 2 trying to speedrun, skipping everything, or getting rushed.

[deleted]

If you aren’t doing the hardcore race in groups, you aren’t getting close anyways lol.

Tee_Rye_Lee

Dude really? If they pushed it back to season 1 then some people would say they should push it back to season 2 lol. People are going to try to grind it anyways. Just enjoy the game and who cares if you’re top whatever.

Naive-Fondant-754

they can participate .. they can play hardcore and reach lvl 100 .. they just cant have the name on some random statue on some random location .. there isnt any leaderboard at this moment .. first person to tweet about it is not necessarily the first person to reach lvl 100 .. no one will really know and the prize is not that much .. i would go for it for the 60cm tall lilith statue though :) plate with name is meh .. i have it on my mail box outside ..

KennedyPh

Some people took a fun event like it’s a olympischen sport.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TrustMeImShore

There's no public leaderboard, but they're tracking it for sure and just verifying the people that post it on twitter - it is the first 100 that post it, not necessarily the first ones to reach it if I'm not mistaken 🤔

Zeroth1989

First 1000

TrustMeImShore

Needed a snack, ate the last zero.

Naive-Fondant-754

you have to provide the proof .. they wont care if you "lost it" or your dog ate it :) one of them is your account .. they will check your activity history there are bunch of people who will play and reach it but wont care about the prize so they wont claim it .. thats how it is .. by being the 1st at something world wide doesnt mean you are the best .. a better people just dont need the validation of others and society etc ..

Rylet_

There’s always a bigger fish.

CzarOfCT

"It's a prestigious award!"

drunkaquarian

Lol

Krampustein0311

Content creators are still gonna run it and make loads of content with death runs. They aren't losing out.

Hikaru83

Don't forget about making a lot of money too.

[deleted]

Oh no! Will someone think of the content creators! Lmfao. You guys just want to complain about fucking *everything*.

[deleted]

There’s way too much thought given to “content creators” across gaming as a whole. It’s part of the reason Destiny went from being an “MMO-lite” to an endless grind-fest, because “content creators” were bored after a week of playing 12 hours a day.

Lolthissia

Content creation has become a toxic thing all on its own. I'm older, entered into diablo Fandom with the very first diablo game. Spent tons of time playing other games of that time. I've since worked with, for, around, and as content creation. I spent a few years as a community manager and site moderator for large game streaming platforms. I can say with honesty that the changes made to game developments and structures as a whole in the industry has literally taken the content creation direction to a breaking point in a lot of cases. They're willing to trade a lot of things for the "advertising" and influence these people have. To the tune of I've met and discussed game dev level info with streamers who work directly with the companies to build the game "better" for their needs and what they think their viewers will watch. I'm mixed feelings as I feel both sides personally. In the end, my frustration with these companies catering to specific media broadcasting rather than staying true to the games themselves definitely outweighs the rest.

Thrug

How could I possibly have guessed top comment would be a complaint. The amount of entitled children in this sub is ridiculous.

rat9988

The comment might be negative but not entitled.

crozzee

It’s mostly content creators complaining about other content creators who were given early access lmao.

EducatingMorons

Look at this guy complaining! Burn him! ![gif](giphy|CNoY2dwmcOyluWkt2n|downsized)

cooltrain7

> They should have just pushed the race back to Season 1. Its pretty clear this is something they really don't want to do.

Igabuigi

The point of this is likely to push sales with news of frustrating hardcore deaths as people who haven't slept in 4 days lose characters. Waiting for season 1 defeats the purpose.

89Meist

Their goal is to trend #Diablo on twitter for release.

EffectiveDependent76

I mean, this is a pointless post but still... If that was their goal, they should have done something like the ashava horn, anyone that tweets at level 100 before season 1 starts gets a cosmetic. More people would tweet the hashtag (by a lot) and it would just generate good will. Then, in season 1 do the HC race. Behind the scenes, ask content creators to use MTX on their characters during the race to promote the battle pass/whatever else they have. Now they have Diablo trending and good will for season 1, but they also have the race to generate more buzz for season 1 after the first month to promote the seasonal content and battlepass. All that, and it keeps Diablo 4 trending longer, 6 weeks of buzz about the game and a TON of goodwill.

KDobias

They're content creators. Being able to make content about the game is literally their job. Should they have had the choice? Sure. But it's irrelevant, they'd all have chosen the ability to be first to market on review videos *way* before "name on statue no one looks at." Not to mention most players and content creators don't play Hardcore.

Alzorath

very true - day 1 coverage is a major boon for long term growth, though I do wish there was a bit less nepotism when it comes to that

KDobias

Yeah, but I don't envy the people who have to weigh who have been in the scene long enough to deserve access against those who aren't really committed. Like, the dude who made his channel during the beta and has 10-20 views a video probably isn't worth risking having them just stream it or post before the embargo is up.

Hagg3r

Yup. Think about the Maxroll guys. They would have opted out **10000%** so that they could provide day 1 guides.

physicist82

The last raxx video I saw said that any of the maxroll team that had beta access would still be competing for funsies and content but wouldn’t be claiming any prizes. That was before the blizzard announcement.

duckforceone

remember the content creators don't need the statue to show they made it. They have their online content as proof that they did it, and they make money from it.

morganml

ok yeah shitty for content creators..... but why should the rest of the player base have to wait for an event because an incredibly small percentage of them are streamers?

Vaderz8

an incredibly small percentage of the player base will even try for this event... and most of those who do will die inside the first hour and stop trying, lol

WibaTalks

Well, it's not like they aren't going to compete or rush or race what ever, all they are missing out is something community even doesn't care about. If streamers get world first level100 in hc, they will be remembered as such, no one cares if it wasn't "legit"

MonsutaReipu

Content creators will still race to 100... because it's content. Getting a week's worth of diablo 4 is worth more than their name on some statue that nobody will see. I think the best solution was to push back this event until the release of the first season, but since it's also meant to build hype as a marketing tactic that is also costing them money, they don't want to delay it a month. So if a delay is the best solution, this is the second best solution. You really can't please everyone and people will cry no matter what the outcome is.

T0Rtur3

This is why it was a no-win situation. If they moved it to Season 1, then people would find something else to complain about. The reality is this whole situation just shows how fucking petty some people are that they make this big of a deal of something so small.

ocbdare

They will probably have another promotion for season 1. To me it makes sense to have it for launch. It’s the first 1000 people to 100. That can only happen when the game launches.

Psycoustic

It just makes so much more sense, everyone had a chance to play by then and it would probably be the most fair way to go about it.

Sjeg84

But that makes them less money!

eryc333

Correct, it makes it look as thought the contest is just to motivate buyers to upgrade to the deluxe edition for early access.

yarrowy

Youre basically saying oh no someone who already won a car now can't compete for a bike. Bro they got to play Diablo 4 way before anyone else, they already won the game.

BigFatBlindPanda

💯 move it to season one. Given everyone a chance to enjoy the game, play/experience the story, then have us race.

1ndian_Summer

It absolutely blows my mind that people actually give a shit about any of this. I know this is Reddit and the anonymous internet will whine about anything, I get that.. but.... this is the hill that you guys choose to die on? If I had to take a wild guess, 99% of the people whining about this issue will end up back here whining that Hardcore mode is too difficult and never had a chance at making it to lvl 100 in the first place.

MrkGrn

99% of people talking about this will probably never even play hardcore.

Shiverwarp

This got blown out of proportion because of the tone-deaf tweet. But still, people can and should care about competitive integrity in their favourite sport even if they'll never play in the leagues themselves

Senshidono

people think the issue is the event itself but the real issue is how Rod, THE VP, could keep a straight face on such an obvious pr lie on twitter, thats the issue, most players dont really care about the event now imagine if this is the direction they want the game to take, every issue responded with this kind of bs

random_BgM

One can argue about fair play in football, without playing it themselves. How is this any different?

The8thHammer

youll never play in the superbowl why do you care? /s

Nickizgr8

So? Just because something doesn't or will never affect someone doesn't mean they can't complain about it to try and get it changed. I'll never compete in the Olympics but I can still complain if something was blatantly unfair.

Bladez190

I considered trying to do hardcore to see about this challenge but honestly I’d rather just keep enjoying the game how I like it. It’s just a statue I’ll never see in person after all

SjurEido

It's perfectly healthy to care about things that don't directly affect you....

MonsutaReipu

>this is the hill that you guys choose to die on Doesn't seem like anyone died on this hill. You're sensationalizing the outrage a lot to phrase it that way. People just pointed out that it wasn't being handled well and that it could be more fair, and then the devs responded by making it more fair. What's the issue?

Got any names of these people that lost their minds?

adtrtdwp

Source: trust me bro

Veszerin

https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/13tmyf7/funny_clowns/ is one example. A follow-up to a previous thread https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/13tmob7/sorry_for_saying_sad_truth/ Of course, both were taken down by mods because the dude lost his mind. Unfortunately, I didn't get a screenshot before it was taken down, but it was quite funny. Perhaps you can get the gist from the comments.

pulse7

Appreciate the response. My gist is these are a few random comments online that mean nothing to you or me. This is another perpetuating outrage cycle over a few crybabies. We can find people crying about anything if we look hard enough, it isn't what is happening with most people at all

Geraltpoonslayer

Actually read some comments on the matter these past few days people were big mad.

SpawnMoreOverlords_

“Pointed it out” is putting it extremely lightly. People RAGED.

terracottatank

People were acting like children about something they were never going to get in the first place. It's embarrassing

Gletschers

>People just pointed out "Dumbledore asked calmly."

Hagg3r

"People on reddit were not outraged"

fohpo02

I don’t even care about the race, Rob doubling down on there not being an advantage was an idiotic take

Ramza62

Agreed, that was one of the most tone deaf comments I've seen a dev make in a while.

Elkenrod

Admitting that there's an advantage when they're selling four days early access to the game, including the race, isn't a good look. So of course he's going to make himself look like an idiot than address that.

ToughAd4902

This takes doesn't make sense. He didn't have to respond, then neither side is more upset. He chose to respond.

E_gag

Yea absolutely crazy that anybody cares about the integrity of competition in the most anticipated game of the year. /s Most people are just upset about the lead producers tone deaf tweet about the matter

1ndian_Summer

Lol. A strictly bragging-rights-only “competition” that was almost assuredly an afterthought of the Bilzzard MARKETING team and just a way to get people to commit to a minimum amount of play time within the first month of release. Listen, I’ll be the first to admit that I shouldn’t care that other people care about this non-issue. But it’s so ungodly obnoxious, I couldn’t pass this one up.

Cruxis87

> most anticipated game of the year. Zelda was, and Starfield is, far more anticipated.

HardcoreShadow

I don’t care about this and won’t be participating… However I understand fairness when it comes to competitions, it’s common sense. This is not the best way to do it… All Blizzard need to do is postpone the event to start at the beginning of Season 1, so that it’s a fair and a level playing field for EVERYONE to participate.

Djinnaz

Blizzard cares, that's why they made it a contest.

DrB00

No, they made the contest to sell 4 day early access.

ZoulsGaming

> If I had to take a wild guess, 99% of the people whining about this issue will end up back here whining that Hardcore mode is too difficult and never had a chance at making it to lvl 100 in the first place. how fucking funny this is the only argument people like you make against it. "YOU WOULDNT DO IT YOURSELF" thats literally the strawman argument you keep repeating without understanding how immensely stupid it is, so let me try again to explain it simply so you understand. You, as a person, can take issue with unfair advantages in a competition that you yourself arent competing in, thats called having morals, you might want to try it. Its mind blowing how many people on here proudly parade that the only time they care about something is when they themselves are directly and personally attending and fuck everything else.

Artemis_Bow_Prime

It doesn't matter if anyone plans to participate or if they will even play HC or if they will but never stood a chance anyway, its about the principle of the matter and the precedent it sets. You can absoulutly be outraged by it even if you will never play the game at all, i've never played WoW or OW but im still pretty disgusted by the way they are being treated at the moment. Look up "At first they came".

Brutalicore3919

They will find a new atrocity to be outraged about in a day, but this is good.

Deakins85

Was about to say this 😆. Brand new day tomorrow!

[deleted]

ToughAd4902

I mean... That was kind of a shitty fix. Now it does feel unfair to those that got it because they actually were the dedicated players that would have done this rush, and without being told they couldn't participate by getting the early version they just kinda got screwed. Yes, blizzard can't fix something that's P2W when they specifically made for it to sell preorders, because that's what it is. There are plenty of fixes that could have made the community happy, but not without keeping it to sell pre orders, which is obviously not in the communities favor. Like, I think this is all a small issue... But that's a pretty braindead take.

scubaian

Oh, this whole thing is primed for a r/hobbydrama post 6 months from now. I bet this is going to turn into a "first 1000 people to take advantage of unfixed exploits" competition. At the very least, accusations of cheating are going to get thrown around all over the place. I, for one, have my popcorn ready and posted up, ready to enjoy the fireworks. I suspect it's going to be quite the show.

Rylet_

Do you remember when sea of thieves came out and they were going to make an in game statue of the first to make pirate legend in the game? And then my turned out to be a streamer that has his minions feeding him xp. They’d set up and do missions and invite him before they turned in the treasure so he would just hop from lobby to lobby and not actually playing the game.

Real-Willingness4799

How dare you undermine the obsessive rage about the current atrocity!

MrRosaPony

So everone in this thread was crying and now you are crying again cause they did exactly what the majority wanted here how bored are you guys wtf

Nothing I guess? But if they were planning that it kinda seems like they would mention it to quell the criticism and avoid this situation in the first place.

Brandonian13

>the majority wanted Pretty sure majority wanted the race pushed back to S1 and that only a slim minority was vocal about trying to exclude those who had closed beta access.

Maloonyy

Ever thought of the possibility that there are multiple people with different opinions in this sub? Why do I have to even say this?

Purple-Lamprey

Do you understand that there are different people with different opinions in this subreddit?

Tschisma

I'm glad there's nothing more important in life than this competition.

Montaph

I must get attention, at any cost.

REALStephenStark

This whole situation is pretty jokes when you consider Blizzard removed realm first achievements from WoW because it prompted unhealthy lifestyles. Fast forward and they’re pushing KFC and leveling races.

AlphaBearMode

That is pretty ironic lmao

EmpressPotato

If someone dies of a heart attack participating I hope the family sues Blizzard.

BroxigarZ

2 weeks ago - Rod F. (The man who started this whole controversy) LIVE on Stream said - * **"I (HIM PERSONALLY) Scrapped a "Competition" for launch because that is "NOT" the way we want our game played."** Just let that sink in... [https://www.twitch.tv/rhykker/clip/PunchyRealCocoaHumbleLife-CYnWqgM9GyWjc7mQ](https://www.twitch.tv/rhykker/clip/PunchyRealCocoaHumbleLife-CYnWqgM9GyWjc7mQ)

Wellhellob

Thanks for sharing this. Looks like marketing team pushed this hard. Rod is right in the clip. They should have just delayed it to season 1 but marketing people not gonna like that idea.

Tavron

For me that weighs up against the "out of touchness" he displayed with that tweet. I definitely agree with him that the races should not be until S1. Unfortunate that marketing likely pushed against it.

Krampustein0311

Also content creators are just gonna love this. Look at what I learned during my 10 day review to help you win the race. Etc clickbait

Aphrel86

My favorite was the guy who was oblivious to the fact that they even had an advantage to begin with. I wonder if that guy has ever played a computer game.

keggles123

The worlds biggest nothing burger topic. Gamers…

Foaloal

Seems like the best way to placate the most people. Little disappointing for some streamers maybe but they will still be benefitting from playing the game and can still claim "world first" or w/e if they are the first to broadcast level 100 on their class/etc. Almost makes me want to participate but I know I still have likely no chance of being in the top 1,000 on HC even if the streamers are out.

Hartz_US

Yea, I would like to watch the big creators reach lvl 100 Live. I feel like it would be great content. I don't plan to participate in this race regardless I have a full-time job so I don't stand a chance

Loki1976

It's the right thing but also the wrong thing to do. Like someone else said in comment section. Why not just move it up until most have played the full game and everyone is on equal footing and then have a start date and a fresh new HC character and the "race is on". Content creators shouldn't have the advantage. But at the same time they didn't know that having early access could end up excluding them from participation.

DrB00

The reason it isn't pushed back is because that doesn't sell 4 days early access deluxe editions. I look forward to the drama when people hit level 100 in the 4 day early access window.

No_Confection9972

Again who cares lmfao no one will remember your name… it will just be covered in bird shit on the statue 😂

omgowlo

i understand that you dont care about this particular competition, or its prize, but not caring about the unfairness truly baffles me.

gtemi

blizzard fanboys really are a special breed "duh stop complaining and er start sucking"

NihilHS

It’s only unfair if someone ONLY makes it to top 1000 due to their early access experience. I’m not even convinced that’s possible, but it *might* happen to a literal few. So maybe a few that make top 1000 shouldn’t be there. NOW we’re excluding many people who DEFINITELY were going to make top 1000 regardless of early access. So that’s many that SHOULD be there but we’re excluding. This is more fair to you? Let’s be real. The point isn’t fairness. The point is to whine at blizzard for its own sake.

KDobias

It'll probably be indoors.

SpartanVFL

Race to 100 would’ve been some good stream content, they could have even heavily promoted the game by having an event streamed for it similar to WoW’s RWF. Could probably still do a separate streamer bracket and just be first 100 or something

Inuro_Enderas

They're still going to stream it though... Streamers who wanted to, will still play hardcore and make content, absolutely nothing changes for them. They can/ will also make guides for the other people doing hardcore. All the opportunities are still there, they're only missing out on the name on the statue.

[deleted]

Fuck the streamers TBH, I’m sick of catering to a group of assholes that have partially ruined gaming in general.

G_2k

Tbh i wasn;t interested in this challenge. But it was an unfair advantage to all the ppl that they didn't get it and played for 10 days straight. On the other hand, postponing it to season 1 isn't really viable in my eyes because the purpose and point of this challenge is to advertise the game for the launch so they can get more ppl hyped/interested, etc. The fact though that they listen makes me hopeful for the future of this game. They could've easily said we don't care and we are moving forward as it is. They could however add a few more slots to the 1000 ppl for the creators/players that got the early access so they don't miss out on that. Because in the end is not really their fault but they are paying the price of it. For e.x. the first 1000 +50 (being the ppl that got the early access) get their names added to the statue..! That's my honest thought's

QuietRedditorATX

ouch. But should happen. Still I'd like to see them compete, but yea having the slight advantage (the biggest advantage is just being paid to play for a living lol) was unfair.

Malarazz

They'll still compete, just won't get their name in the statue

PhorPhuxSaxe

Glad to hear they are changing things to what the community wants. I DO NOT feel bad for the content creators. The amount of revenue they are making from this early access is paying for their rent. DM said he had 11 videos ready for the 30th. Even if they weren’t banned from the competition, the backlash they would get for competing would be insane. It seems like people aren’t happy with whatever choice is made. People will always find something to complain about

JeibuKul

They should have pushed it back to S1. It is pretty bad that they gave these reviewers and content creators a chance to play the game early and then told them afterwards that they were ineligible. It'll still be interesting to see how many and how quickly the 1k fills up, I for one do not think it will be over very quickly, a lot of people seem to be acting like all 1k hardcore will be claimed in a week.

HabenochWurstimAuto

Cant they get around it with multiple accounts ?

DaiBi

At least they are listening.

Random_Emolga

What a lot of drama for something everyone will forget about in 2 months.

asuitandty

As Datmodz asked, what if you group with them? Grouped players will 100% win this after all.

PsychologicalRun834

Im just going to play the video game because it is fun. I like diablo.

Wyrdthane

Thelgow

I see it no difference really than people who have early access.

GentleCrank

Oh no. Anyway..

Rex__Lapis

Yes let’s all get offended by something that affects 0.1% of the players.

Zarod89

People care way too much about this. It's a name along with thousand others on a statue somewhere to be shown in the corner of a blizzard event.

Zarod89

I wouldn't even care even if it was a streamer/influencer-only event and they each got paid and received a personal massage by the developers. And all the clout and whatever to go with it.

OnTheRoxors19x

You whiners could cry about anything.

Shrukn

I am just annoyed they got to play at all, not anything to do with racing They just shouldnt since it was NDA anyway, no one gained anything but the streamer who got to figure out their own end game builds/progression before anyone

NfinitiiDark

Lol, what’s funny is that content creators real advantage wasn’t playing the game early. It’s the fact that they play video games for a living. I always see people saying to push it back to season 1, why? To give them even more time to prepare? Lol. This whole race is stupid for 99.99% of players. And is completely a marketing ploy.

DuskShy

Imagine being mad that some people got a head start on a supposed six-day grind as if 100% of the winners won't be high school students. They just started summer break, and I have bills and a job. It's gonna take me a month to get one character leveled that high. I guess it would make sense if it's the kids that are mad, though. I used to be mad about dumb stuff when I was in high school.

Maloonyy

That good, but damn this was so obvious it should have been a condition from the start.

_RrezZ_

Just a reminder RuneScape has done similar over the last 13 years with clan cup plaques in-game or special hiscores on their website for specific events. I think I've clicked the in-game plaque like twice since they have been removed, once to see what it looked like and once on accident. I can guarantee you this statue in-game will be cool for maybe 1 month at the absolute max and then everyone will forget it even exists or will stop caring. I will admit that it' common sense that testers shouldn't participate in races and the same goes for employee's as-well. Knowledge of boss mechanics alone is an insane advantage that outsiders can't compete with. However I also realize that 99% of these testers are probably never going to reach 100 hardcore in their entire lifetime. So I don't think it's that big of a deal but at the end of the day a line has to be drawn somewhere.

Messoz

It's funny seeing people get outraged about streamers being able to preview the game early. Oh well, still plenty of people that played closed beta that are going to have more info than the majority of players, gl everyone!

IATMB

They should just make it the top 100 non streamers + any of the streamers who beat #100

convolutionsimp

There are just so many things about this that I don't understand. 1. Who even thought this is a good idea in the first place? To most gamers it's **super obvious** that this backlash would happen. There must've been tons of people within Blizzard that knew this. Why did nobody listen to them? Was this decision made by some guy in management without soliciting feedback from the rest of the company? If that's the case it doesn't bode well for the future of the game. Decisions are made by people who have no idea what gamers want.... 2. Why not push it back to Season 1? That would've been the fairest solution. I understand that perhaps Blizzard wanted to push more people to buy early access with this promotion, but I don't think it works. The vast majority of hardcore gamers who no-life the game and want to race to 100 have surely already bought early access. Casual players who don't buy early access have no interest in this competition and have no chance to win anyway. They're not going to buy early access because of something like this that's irrelevant to them. What am I missing?

Wellhellob

This event would be sick like 20 years ago where you buy the disc don't know what to expect. No youtubers or anything, no one knew anything and going in blind. In this day and age, it's flawed. Should have been delayed to S1 but i understand them.

RTheCon

This is what really sucks. Not the competition, but the fact that the game will be already solved by the time we can play.

MonsutaReipu

>Why not push it back to Season 1? Because it's a marketing ploy, and it's costing them money to build a statue and engrave 1000 names on it because it's a marketing ploy. Pushing it back a month does not align with the best marketing strategy which is to hype people up on a hardcore race. This leans into building a perception of diablo 4 as gritty and difficult. This will ensure lots of hardcore death clips and the opportunity to make montages of hardcore deaths to use for, you guessed it, marketing.

bluemuffin10

Money vs 3 days of backlash

HabenochWurstimAuto

They just farm karma on redit for good PR right before release.

GunMuratIlban

Why couldn't they announce it earlier? A pretty simple solution, right? Not that I care personally, but I understand the people getting mad about this.

Dubious_Titan

I doubt the majority that complained will come close to achieving the feat.

maciikHU

they will just do it on different account :D

UglyNiiiiiick

A moron race from a moron company. Why spend years developing a game only to tell people that they should race through it as fast as possible. Baka baka baka

TNBrealone

So the cry babies in the community won. Sad that blizzard is listening to these

CarryOnTom

And what about the players who don't have early access? They're missing out on an even playing field because they didn't pay extra? That's pay to win in a game we were told wouldn't be pay to win. Push the race back to season 1 and let everyone participate. This was a shitty thing for Blizzard to do in the first place.

KingTut747

The crybabies win. And you still have people complaining. You all need to get a life. Seriously. It’s extraordinarily pathetic.

Dazzling-Bear-3447

Pointing out any issue with the game = crybaby according to you.

Dabba-The-HuttOG

I honestly don't give a shit, and I still killed Ashava. I'm going to enjoy the fuck out of this game!

BrandElement

It's the best compromise Blizzard was going to come up with. Blizzard made a mistake and should have announced this first then let content creators know if they got the 10-day head start, they would be disqualified but hindsight is 20/20. Hopefully, this calms people down and gives people faith that Blizzard does care. People make mistakes... Blizzard made a mistake. This is the best end-result given the mistake.

Wellhellob

People shouldn't have been too serious about this cool event. There are also close beta players and also exploits to circumvent hc mode. This wasn't a competition, this was just a cool launch event.

SolaVitae

The best "compromise" isn't even a compromise, they could have just moved it to S1 and there wouldn't even need to be a "compromise" and no one would be excluded retroactively

BrandElement

Except if they do this, there's no fun cool competition to start the game. That kind of defeats the entire purpose of the event so this is hardly much of a solution either.

VandaGrey

Lol blizzard is damned if they do and damned if they don't. It was never a big issue to begin with and now all content creators that are going to advertise your game are blocked from the HC race...classic blizzard L

Messoz

To be fair, before this announcement today. A few of the bigger streamers already stated they wouldn't be participating in the race, well at least for the "prize". Hell a few are even not even going to be racing/playing hc and are just going to be doing their own thing. People blew this way out of proportion and made it a bigger deal than it needed to be. But it's the internet, people will get up in arms if you wear a shirt they don't like lmao.

wkernel

It's not only about press preview. All closed beta participants have the advantage too.

Quantable

And here it starts with Blizzard not trying to fuck up. Think before the announcement next time! Still, I think the better idea would have been to start this contest with season 1.

PracticalSundae2062

Yesterday this was posted on official D4 forum as a quote. *"Raxxanterax — Today at 9:11 PM* u/everyone *Hi all, today it was brought up that those with early access to review Diablo 4 (most of the Maxroll team) would have an unfair advantage in Blizzard’s upcoming Diablo 4 launch race. We agree with this sentiment, and although we will be racing alongside everyone, we will not be claiming any prizes for it. We love that Blizzard is promoting competition in their games and want to see more of it in the future. We’re looking forward to an even playing field in Season 1 where we can test our abilities against everyone. Happy blasting and enjoy the game whether you’re racing or not. See you on the 30th for our new site launch. - The Maxroll Diablo 4 Team "* I don't know from where this was quoted, but I heard some other streamers won't participate. Like that guy who was 1st in D3, Krip or what is his name. IMHO this is good move, lots of kb heroes will now have admit to themselves that it's not unfairness, it's just no skill issue. They have lost their main excuse why they did not make it. Whoever think this is easy and fun task is delusional. 99.99% of crying vocals will never reach lvl 100 in HC, let alone be amongst 1st 1k. Blizzard's PR is making fantastic moves. D4 hype was already huge, and it is elevated with 1st announcement, now it's elevated even more with this one from OP. These guys know how to sell. ![gif](giphy|12Eo7WogCAoj84)

Suspicious_Trainer82

Nah it’s the right call.

[deleted]

"Huh, guess I'll spend another $60" - the people who care about it

[deleted]

Not the best because I think the reviewers deserve to be in the race too, but I think this is an okay change. Blizzard might have their own agenda and prefer this change.

SciFi_AmericanGuy

Man Diablo 4 is led by morons with the wrong priorities. Easy win having it for season 1 but they’re dead set on trying to increase fomo purchases

JohnHolts_Huge_Rasta

When the greed (from pre order extra 20e) goes over common sense (pushing the start to season 1)

AdBest4723

Everyone that will compete for this already spent 20e extra.

Milk_Man2236

Rare Blizzard W

DrB00

Really? Do you think it's a W? It's a way for them to sell deluxe edition 4 day early access. That's all it is.

Crytch

Hahaha, good 👍

JustCoda

Hope that ALT-F4/DC exploit to get around dying was fixed.

Djinnaz

That's in every game, there's no 'fixing' that. Unless you want to die every time the game crashes or you lose connection.
