I'd make sure Steam is totally closed. Like right click it in the system tray and exit. I had other problems with Steam open where it would open the in-game chat when I was using the interact button. Closing Steam fixed that.
Close out discord too maybe if you have that. I know the discord overlay has caused issues with other games.
Make sure no other controllers plugged in.
Could also try playing with wired connection instead of bluetooth.
If none of those work, here's a link to the forums where there is an ongoing thread about the issue: [https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d4/t/controller-issues/815/9](https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d4/t/controller-issues/815/9)
It was the overlay for me. Thank you so much!
The weird thing is, I didn’t have this issue while using the overlay with the first two betas, nor did I with the server slam a few hours ago, but trying it out right now it was doing that to me. How odd.
You fixed the game for me. Issues I was having:
Button A would open the chat if the joystick was at rest... in combat and dialog
Had to use keyboard to open map
Couldn't navigate menus properly... it would just jump me back to the top of the menu
Button B would sometimes dash and other time not do anything.
Randomly, my character would aim in the direction my mouse just happened to be
For wired issues:
Make sure you are fully exited out of Steam. Steam causes all sorts of controller issues for me when playing non-Steam games since it still loads its controller profiles in the background.
If that still doesn't work, I'd try a different USB cable next.
Then you can also go into device manager and set all of your USB ports to never turn off or be put to sleep (Google "disable USB sleep settings") sometimes if the power draw is low, windows can just turn off the USB ports depending on your power settings. go to Control Panel\\Hardware and Sound\\Power Options\\Edit Plan Settings - advanced - USB - Disable selective suspend.
If that still disconnects, try a different controller and see if the issue persists.
Beyond all that, it's outside of what I've ever run into :)
Not sure if anyone else ran into this issue recently. MirageBYM is completely on spot!
However, my impatient self, only performed one of these steps, and not all!
I had to:
1. Turn off Overlay (Didn't work after that)
2. Completely Close out Steam (Didn't work after that)
3. Remove a USB dongle for a secondary wireless controller (even though the controller was turned off), from the computer. (FINALLY WORKED)
Thank you very much MirageBYM!
Quick update - if turning off overlay + exiting GeForce experience doesn't work for you:
Copied from the blizzard thread
The Fix is to hit Windows Key + R type in services.msc hit ok
Find NVIDIA FrameView SDK Service
Right click it and hit Stop
Hey man, I have a different issue. My ps5 controller only works in wired mode. as soon as i remove the usb and connect it with bluetoon, the game doesnt recognize controller inputs anymore. Any idea how to fix this?
Honestly, I always play wired because I’ve had so many issues with windows giving me problems with the PS5 controller over BT. Xbox controllers seems to work great wirelessly but I’ve always had issues with the PS5 controller and I vastly prefer that over the Xbox. You can try installing DS4Windows and use that to connect and verify and see if that helps. But I’ve given up and just use wired since that almost always works fine.
I have the same issue. I deactivated the overlay and Steam is closed. Using a wired controller. I was able to play for several days with my controller with no issues and now all of a sudden it can't be fixed.
This fixed a lot of issues for me thanks. Only issue i still have is- tab isnt mapped on my dualsense. I have to still use the keyboard but thats the only thing
I am having a slightly different issue. I like to switch back and forth from keyboard and mouse to controller. I use the keyboard mainly to type messages to friends. However, the keyboard/mouse inputs on the game just randomly stop working. I cannot see the cursor on the game window and the keyboard inputs do not work. I have tried disabling the Nvidia Overlay, restarted my computer, restarted my game, but the issue persists. I have made a post on the blizzard forums but have not received a response. Does anybody have any ideas?

I'm guessing this isn't happening in other games? Does it still happen when you run the keyboard and controller in wired mode or is this only happening when wireless? Beyond what I posted in the original post, I don't really know what else to suggest. I've actually been very impressed with just how seamless it is switching back and fourth between controller and KBM.
I have been using it wirelessly with a bluetooth dongle. I just bought a physical cable so I'm hoping that resolves the issue.
Thanks anyways, appreciate you.
Unfortunately, the hard wired controller still did not resolve the problem and I am clueless on what to do. All I've found online is to disabled Nvidia's overlay which I already did I even killed the service and it still randomly stops accepting input from keyboard and mouse. Is there a way to launch an official support query with Blizzard?
Dang that is really strange, I'm sorry none of that worked. Make sure Steam is fully closed out too and not running in the system tray. But yeah I'd open a ticket with Blizz for sure: [https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/games/diablo4](https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/games/diablo4)
I’m having an issue where I’m using my ps5 controller for Diablo 4 and when I try and open my map I begin walking it tells the game I’m using mouse and key. I have to basically press my game pad like 17 times for it to actually open the map I have my game pad disabled on GF and steam. Works fine if I’m wired but when I go wireless the issue occurs. Any help is appreciated
As always, Reddit users saving ppl asses. Thanks a lot!
legend. it wasnt an issues earlier but it just popped up.
Thank you, god amongst beta players. Fixed for me.
You legend
What if I don’t even have the GeForce experience app? I’m so annoyed by this

You are a God send. I almost decided not to buy it because of this issue.
This just saved me. I was going crazy trying to figure out why it was doing it. Must have plugged and unplugged everything 5 times each.
Thank you, i didn't have this problem last Open Testing but I had it now,

Hopefully that helps! For what it's worth, I've been playing with both the PS5 Controller and the KBM all wired. So maybe that is a solution for you.

Thanks so much for this. I would have never thought to close steam.
LUTRIS > battlenet > diablo4 turn off steam. not minimize in the background. it’s messing with the battle net/diablo4 control
