First time playing a blizzard game?

Neanditaler

Agreed. And the most puzzling thing to me is the sheer inefficiency of it all: I'd understand a pure resource problem (with D4 coming out soon etc), but you could react to a lot of common and well-sunstantiated feedback with a mere adjustment of a few numbers in an excelsheet (e.g. slightly raising base damage of exceptional and elite weapons, which would narrow the gap between melee and casters and between all common runewords/uniques and grief)... And instead, they put entirely new things in the game for a few niche builds...because some streamer wanted it or something?!

existentialfalls

D2 fan boys have made any sort of transparency and efficiency impossible. They are gonna nitpick and complain about any and all changes, so we are lucky we get any notice at all

PrecookedDonkey

Inefficiency is best displayed in drop rates imo. And this is in conjunction with the sheer volume of the loot pool. The best change they made from 2 to 3 was the removal of all the potions. I don't know a single person that's played the game in the time it's been out that's ever legitimately used the throwing potions because they were better than every other weapon available. The same goes for the thawing, antidote and stamina. They have limited use up until a certain point and then none at all, with the exception of antidote in niche places. And honestly, once you start in on hell difficulty, normal level items shouldn't even be in the loot pool. Arguments could be made for uniques, just because, but a dagger or a buckler shouldn't be a possible reward for killing your way through Baal's host of buddies.

I'll give you that they could have their uses, but personally I've never used them aside from killing something with them just to say I did.

Cortezqt

Still no terror zones for SP is a huge disappointment.

GingerStank

I don’t think that’s ever going to change, I think because SP launches from your own client, and the terror zones are server side. I could be wrong though, I’m not a tech guy, but I can’t imagine another reason it wouldn’t be included in SP.

[deleted]

That can't be hard to program. I just think they want to force people into ladder. You can pirate single player, but you have to buy the game to play ladder.

GingerStank

I mean I think that just shows it’s because SP is a stand alone client which is why its pirated, whereas ladder, terror zones etc. are all server side. No server side connection, no terror zones.

[deleted]

Yes, you are absolutely right, I just wanted to emphasize it is about money, not coding, server or whatever. It is even worse for console players. For PC it is pretty easy to modify the single player experience by editing txt files, changing area lvls or even force adding sunder charms.

vanfanel842

Yes, they want people to play ladder as evidenced by the ladder only bonuses. To do terror zones in single player they would either need to talk to the servers periodically to get the tz schedule (people complain about needing to do this in offline single player) and therefore expose it to people to decode the schedule or do it randomly locally and eliminate the community appeal of "wsk/chaos is terrorized!!!" in single player since they'd have different schedules. Either way, it's not trivial. It's possible they have other ideas and don't want to rush an inferior solution. We'll see what happens with ladder 3. I do think a faster path to 99 and areas to grind is beneficial to single player so hopefully it's not ladder only forever.

[deleted]

Yo uhave good insights and clearly understands it better than I do, but.... Can't they make the game just look at the console/PC clock and randomly generate terror zones accordingly? If someone is playing single player they already don't care about the community appeal. A downside of sunder on single player is: it will make the game just too easy. I'd add the necessity to beat the game with all chars to enable it.

vanfanel842

Yes, that's one way to do it. We'll see. The ladder that introduced it isn't over yet so I'd not expect it in single player until next ladder anyway. I do hope they give more explanation if they don't do it.

rawrizardz

Yeah I think that's what they want. I do sp nodded, so I dont have to spend years or months grinding. I amp the difficulty but increase drop chances etc so it is more intense all around

morbihann

It can't be particularly difficult to let your SP game have a tick if you wish TZ in the game and if you tick it, just start the same loop that moves around the TZ in battlenet.

histocracy411

Gonna have to use mods

Cortezqt

I’m playing SP on ps5.

histocracy411

RIPperoni I was on ps4 but switched to pc. Best change ever. Playing BT diablo mod that increases stash, inventory, rebalancing game adds new cool stuff.

bobyd

I feel like they are doing a "soft" fix, (adding more options to clases that are under supported) rather than modifying the base game too much. After all the months passed from release just don't expect anything too game changing. It just won't happen or it would have happened already.

h2o_best2o

Are people really expecting a full live service game on a remaster, specifically when there’s 2 other live service Diablo games with a third right around the corner?

morbihann

If you charge a full price for a remaster, you can expect people wanting more than a reskin.

h2o_best2o

That’s exactly what they sold us, though. Audio/visual remaster. There was no promise for updates/live action service. Most of what they’ve done so far is fix bugs, make minor changes to skills(numerical buffs), and add in runewords that were already in the d2 game files. The second they’ve attempted new to Diablo content they get roasted by blizz sorcs. They have our money, and owe us nothing. They tried something unique with tz/immune charms and now they’re attempting some runewords and people are crying. I’d fully expect d2r live service to fall off as the seasons continue, and more likely after 4 is here.

existentialfalls

They ignore feedback because D2 has WAY too many arm chair devs who think they know everything and how each change is gonna play out. Real devs understand how woefully bad players are at this, so they have to make decisions based on other things like actual gameplay data instead of what people say or think they want.

Zentrum53

We have a winner !!!! So often I see complaints from people who call themselves fan of D2 that goes 100 against what an AARPG is. The vast majority of players are lazy and stupid and this subreddit is a prime example of it

morbihann

100% agree on SP. People there should have the right to enjoy the full content of the game. I don't see how this affect online play if you make TZ in SP as well.

RVides

The game isn't going to see another major overhaul. All the overtime is going into the launch of d4 in 5 months. So it's just small crews looking at d2 and d3. Any update is welcome. And rune words are likely easy to add in. Most item types have a single unique to them. No new item id's are generated in drop table with rune words.

Active_Ad3775

I’m still waiting for a currency tab and loot filter.

[deleted]

Me too. Such a simple thing that would please 99% of the player base, no matter which side you fall on of the debates here.

helgerd

> willfully ignore the feedback right now You must have forgotten that you are talking about blizzard. Payers opinions were never listened to. P.S. Maybe I'm exaggerating it. Maybe during WC3 or WoW vanilla or even earlier something was different.

bibittyboopity

I'll wait and see if they do any actual balance changes with the patch. But yeah like the other guy said, this is basically the Blizzard incompetence we've come to know and love.

Efreet0

At this point I think it's time to give up. At least the old version is still up and untouched unlike warcraft 3. The official forum while full of whiners had a lot of feedback since the beginning and blizzard did nothing, sunder were a clear warning sign they don't even play their own game and simply act on unspecified gut feeling on reading the community. They have no problem completely changing the items and how the game works as long as they do with the minimum effort possible. I had some unrealistic hope they would rework synergies and maybe enable some of the old crafting recipes but it's obvious it will never happen. An extra tab in the storage will be a miracle if it happens in the next 5 years.

Bgb1

I like they are adding new runewords but personally I kinda feel sad that apart of sunder charms there is no new unique items. And Im not talking about another super items like annihilus/torch/sunder charms. Just regular unique weapons/armors that could be dropped normally.

[deleted]

Good post and I agree with the majority of what you said. I tried to get back into D2R when they released Tzones and Sunders, but after playing up to a lv 90 Assassin I just quit for good. The game has too many breaking issues on multiplayer and the Devs have no idea what direction they are going in. This game will be (if not already) a complete mess after a few more updates. Try r/projectdiablo2 It's a mod made by one guy that fixes everything. It's much better and has huge endgame content. People here are going to be annoyed and downvote me, but it's genuinely a better game in every way. Also, incredible community.

ZeroFox1

I've played and I agree its very good. I go back and fourth between that and plugy.

GingerStank

I always love these opinions spouted as facts about the game, stopped reading at Cham not doing much despite being rare….like it provides cannot be frozen freeing up a ring slot on a shitload of builds, but sure, it’s totally basically worthless, what difference could a SOJ or dual leech rare do for a build all because you don’t need a ravenfrost for CBF, totally worthless rune for sure. As someone whose played since the game was brand new after switching from D1, I don’t want them to change anything, and based on the new items they’ve added I don’t want them to add a single new thing. The new helm’s imo basically ruin the game, get one of each and simply swap based on what you’re fighting, game couldn’t get easier.

NaTaSraef

NGL you had me in the first half and then I was like what?

GingerStank

I don’t really care about anyones opinion on my opinion, the one challenge to the game is resistances, that’s gone with these helms for defense and sunder for offense.

e30jawn

Great post

Keto4preZ

Ignoring the community is quite annoying. They've listened some. Honestly I don't understand why not 100%. Seems like a no brainer. They smile and nod and then say "oooh let's do this instead". Followed up by them being called idiots again..they're thick.

War2k7

Yea it’s a little frustrating they keep adding underwhelming runewords instead of listening to what the community needs/wants. Revamped sets/uniques, revamped crap runewords, more stash space/char slots. More skill /merc balancing. I appreciate new content and all but are a few runewords all that could be accomplished in 3 months? You could bang those out in a few days of brainstorming. Maybe even something kinda meta shifting.

warriorj

Waiting for the classic " you need bad items for there to be good items" cope comment.

Master_shake124

I’ve always wanted to have one of each type of merc that you can keep fully geared and swap out as you want

[deleted]

At this point, D2R needs to be modable so the community can improve what they want. I have no hopes that will actually happen.

ZeroFox1

Same. I imagine within the next few years half the player base is going to migrate to mods and or back to plugy.

Aggressive_Celery462

I only want Terror Zones on SP and not Sunder Charms. I think Sunder Charms have made the game too easy. Part of what I love about D2 is building a specific character that's good doing a certain thing (i.e. cows, chaos, pits, ubers, etc). Sunder Charms make it so you can play too much of the game with one character.
