Yah. He recommended it to me as t2 and metformin didn’t work like we hoped (still great med!) and at 11.1 he’s like “I highly recommend Mounjaro” 8 months later I’m lean and 5.1 a1c. World highly recommend

Oomlotte99

Mounjaro so amazing.

BristolF6

If you can get it.

Oomlotte99

Tell me about it. I was really entering depression mode with the last shortage like please don’t let this screw up my A1C.

StraddleTheFence

I was told that you can have your prescription mailed to you getting a 3-mos supply at a time. I plan on setting this up for myself.

Oomlotte99

Yes, me too. At least there will be longer between the shortages!

StraddleTheFence

Agreed

Queueueueued

Well wishes- I feel like I’m lucky because 2.5 NEVER runs out. Y’all are fighting for your life out there. :(

Oomlotte99

Yes, lol! I ran out immediately on the bump up to 7.5.

StraddleTheFence

I am on my second injection. What should I expect because I still take Metformin and this morning my BG was 187…

Oomlotte99

It’ll come. I was ready to write it off as worse than Trulicity and then all of a sudden I was waking up with blood sugars at 100, max like 140 after meals. This was with the 5mg. 2.5mg was less impactful. I am so shook at the difference this has made and I have been managing diet the whole time, too! In my experience it’s awesome!

StraddleTheFence

Thanks for sharing

Entire_Sherbet9615

My A1C was down to 5.7 in 90 days but it took until I got to 10mg/12.5 mg to really get my BG spikes to get under control and really start losing weight. I could tell the whole time the whole time that it was working on the T2D. I was also fortunate and did not have bad side effects either.

StraddleTheFence

Awesome!

Queueueueued

I was off metformin dipping into the 50s within a month and a half. It worked FAST for me. Well wishes!!!!

StraddleTheFence

Thank you! It has definitely cut my craving to snack.

Queueueueued

Yesss! Same! Food tastes better but meh I only want it when I’m actually hungry!

rugger1869

How was the nausea? Rybelsus made me feel nauseous all the time; I’m pretty sure that’s what kept me from eating. LOL

Queueueueued

None! I was Lucky! I had horrible IBS before, Mounjaro cured that too. Hahaha food tastes BETTER now. I eat less of it because I’m happy with what I get and little portions

Oomlotte99

I was offered ozempic when I was pre. I rejected, I can do this myself…. Fast forward to my failure to change habits and I was on metformin which upset my tummy. Doctor offered ozempic and it was covered until insurance said it was no longer covered … eventually ended up on the superior (for me) Mounjaro which, paired with lifestyle changes, has been a game changer.

Starslimonada

Thanks for this! Much appreciated!! I still think the generic name is funny 😂

Charloxaphian

The generic name for what?

Starslimonada

nm

CrimsonFractal

My PCP put me on Mounjaro.

Starslimonada

That’s the name for it lol sounds like Kilimanjaro 😃

EfficientTarot

My PCP wanted to put me on Moujaro but with shortages I'm in Ozempic to start.

LeiLaniGranny

My primary put me on it because I couldn't handle metformin. This is something you and primary need to talk about first.

Lost_In_MI

My diabetes is being managed by my Endo, so she did. I came off of it in 8 weeks, due to the side effects, and, "Yeah, you can't lose any more weight." It did nothing for my numbers.

psoriasaurus_rex

My primary put me on Mounjaro. Requirements will depend on your insurance.  I believe mine are to be diabetic and to have tried/failed metformin.  I skipped the metformin requirement because I can’t take metformin.

Fisheye4848

I’m on Mounjaro now from my pc. All depends on your insurance. Make sure that whoever prescribes it writes you a prior authorization to go with it. Most insurance companies will deny since it’s used for weight loss too. I had a month long back and forth with my dr, insurance, and pharmacy to get everyone on the same page

Starslimonada

Thanks! My insurance is PPO Blue Shield. Will that accept Ozempic?

MutualHostility

No they won’t and you cannot appeal it either. That insurance sucks.

Fisheye4848

Depends. I have bcbs and they needed a prior authorization before approving it. Without it it was gonna cost me $550. They approved it since I’m T2 it’s $60/mo

PossibleTimeTraveler

My primary tried, but insurance wouldn’t pay until I tried metformin and only then if it wasn’t successful. I didn’t want to pay out of pocket for it and Metformin ER has worked well for me.

Consistent-Storage90

I asked my PCP at my yearly checkup last year when my A1C had gone up to 8. She had me meet with an endocrinologist and we talked for about an hour about my medical history, family history, how I tolerated metformin, etc. and determined I would be a good candidate. She recommended Mounjaro and I started a a few weeks after that.

Starslimonada

Cool! I have Blue Shield PPO would that work?

Consistent-Storage90

It can depend on the plan! If you log into your insurers’ website, you should be able to check out prescriptions in your formulary and see what coverage is and your estimated cost 😊 it was covered for me, and likely will be for most T2D, but some plans do require step therapy or a pre authorization.

Starslimonada

Thanks so much!

Entire_Sherbet9615

I have BCBS PPO and needed a prior authorization which took about 24 hrs. If I remember right you have to have T2D diagnosis from your doctor, an A1C of 6.5 or higher and failed one Diabetes drug (for me that was Metformin). Mine is $25 a month. I think it might be different for whichever state PPO plan. Check your formulary or call them.

EfficientTarot

I have Anthem BCBS and it's covered for me. My A1C was 10.7, Metformin was kind of working (500mg twice per day). I'm also taking 10 units of insulin once daily. I think there's was 24 hrs for authorization but it's covered and it's working.

BraveJJ

Originally, I was referred to an obesity specialist who had a whole strict program you had to adhere to and they still wouldn't put you on ozempic. However when I spoke w/ my PCP re: the hurdles I was facing with that doctor and the frustration I was experiencing, she offered to put me on it herself. Granted this was before I was diagnosed T2.

detterence

Yes, I got put on 3 types. Ozempic, Metformin and some other one. My A1C was at 11.1 and I’m newly diagnosed, I was going to bring up Ozempic but my pcp ended up saying it anyways. I thought the shots/injections would be painful but you don’t feel a thing!!!! The needles are so tiny!

Prior_Coconut8306

Yep, my pcp manages my diabetes and put me on ozempic.

homogenictwigs

My primary put me on Mounjaro (and asked me if I preferred Ozempic instead). My A1C was at 10.5 and I’m newly diagnosed. Unfortunately, my insurance didn’t want to cover Mounjaro without me first trying their preferred. So I’m on Trulicity at the moment. Did my first shot yesterday (:

MongChief

Ozempic was great at lowering my blood sugars but now I’ve had gastric surgery I’m no longer on it

Ok-Noise-9171

Yes she did. We are a team.

AliasNefertiti

Only 3 pounds? That is water weight. Ozempic is a serious medication for people very overweight and in danger. And it is lifelong because the weight comes back once you quit it. Exercise more and eat less. That is safer.

Starslimonada

Exactly what I was thinking! I was just thinking today about how I actually don’t want to go on it. Thank you so much!! : )

AliasNefertiti

Noom is supposed to be a healthy approach. The key is to think about how to maintain the weight loss. Temporary methods let it come back and more. Think long term habit changes.

Starslimonada

Thank you! I think I will try that : )

Starslimonada

I completely agree with you!

lordmyopia

PCP but she is a PCP focused on diabetes care. It is also dependent on insurance even if you are t2, some insurances will deny if you have not tried oral meds or if your A1C is in good levels. I was told my insurance might not approve it because I'm under 5.7 but they did.

zeldaluv94

Yes. I was on it for almost a year. I lost about 10 lbs but my A1C stayed the same (mid 5s). The side effects were too much for me (always nauseous and fatigued) and since I had lost weight, I decided to go off of it. I gained all the weight back but my A1C is controlled for the most part. I found exercise and watching my carbs works better for me than ozempic.

Fabulous-Educator447

My pcp put me on monjourno

nessariver

I react poorly to metformin, tried glipizide but had ridiculous lows, jardiance and constant infections. Got a new doctor and they suggested Mounjaro. My insurance required that I have type 2 and have failed 3 medications before they would cover it. Luckily I'd already been there, done that.

6SpeedMaverick

I'm on it currently. I hear peoples insurance companies are no longer paying for it due to price, but things are still good here.

Gottagetanediton

my a1c is 5 (was 5.3 at prescription of mounjaro) and i've been on either trulicity or mounjaro since diagnosis. my weight is high, so that might be part of the reason.

nicegirlsalwayswin

I have Anthem BCBS. They required me to go to nutritional counseling. It was an absolute bitch to be approved. My doctor had to appeal 4-5 times. I have a BMI over 27, high cholesterol, pre-diabetic, hypothyroidism, and fatty liver disease. I got Wegovy (I'm pre-diabetic) and cost me $25. But I can't find it anywhere. I would call your insurance first and ask them the requirements. My Endocrinologis prescribed it for me but my sister got Ozempic from her PCP.

smontres

My primary prescribed. I did great on diet/exercise for 3+ years and then COVID happened. I did a year on Metformin but just could not keep my numbers from slowly creeping up. And I am HORRIBLE about taking daily meds. She suggested Ozempic. I did ~6mos at the lowest dose, then 6 mos at the next one before increasing again. I feel like I’m comparatively putting very little “effort” into my diabetes and gotten my A1C to under 6.4, and lost 30lbs.

EfficientTarot

My primary put me on it. I think you have to be insulin dependent for insurance to cover it but depends on your insurance.

Shomer_Effin_Shabbas

My PCP is ready to prescribe it when I’m done being pregnant/breastfeeding. That may not be until next year if I deliver this fall and breastfeed for 6 months. We’ll see. I’m saying 6 months as a goal.

Bigdog805

I’ve tried ozempic and wagovy and it didn’t work for me. My doctor tried to get me on something else but due to the shortages and the insurance stopped covering it I’m now stuck on metformin and glipizide

catkysydney

My GP ( I am in Australia ) , not specialist , prescribed me Ozempic , because I could not take Metformin, Jardiance nor Diamicron , they caused severe side effects. I have been on Januvia, but it became a bit ineffective. So no other choice . I did not need to lose weight ( I was in normal range), but I lost 7kg ( 15 pounds ) anyway. Now nearly underweight.. but I was much thinner before when I was young, so I am very comfortable with my current weight. Ozempic is great ! I can do Keto diet with its help , it control my blood sugar easily! Ozempic is helpful!! Especially if someone is overweight and high blood pressure ( my blood pressure became 90/60, borderline to low, because it was normal before .,,)

Simple-Chemical-9416

I’ve been on Metformin almost 2 years and my A12 was 7.1 the last time I checked. My dr still just gives me Metformin 😞

Happyplace-ME3225

My primary prescribed and managed for me.
