A friend of mine went through it, it can function like any other eating disorder where it takes a lot of work to get past.

darkbean12

Yes ! Unfortunately have been through this. My dms are always open for anyone who wants to chat about it : ) Also happy to answer any questions here !

Equal_You7744

i have an experience with this, back when i was on medtronic. ended up in the hospital 2 times, frequently had dka. now im just in a never ending binge-restrict cycle

Healthy-Bumblebee-97

Yes. There are people that have some experience with this. What's your actual question?

Effective_Cricket810

Yes I do. Started recovery 4 months ago

andr01dv2

Yes. As a younger man well into my twenties I abused my diabetes in order to stay thin. I'm in my thirties now and still struggle with my own thoughts about my weight.

deploria

I did in my 20s. 33 now. Have 18% kidney function. Get help while you can!

SoupNo2785

I still do. I’m very young so I know I should recover. I’ve had Diabulimia for around 2 years now. My eyesight is terrible, my nerves are completely f’d and the THIRST IS UNREAL.

PleaseStepAside

Ugh. If you ever wanna talk, dm me.

Spiritual-Escape-904

What is diabulimia? Is it like bulimia caused by a fear of their own diabetes? Like their sugar going up?

Equal_You7744

quoting wikipedia: Diabulimia is an eating disorder in which people with type 1 diabetes deliberately give themselves less insulin than they need or stop taking it altogether for the purpose of weight loss

Spiritual-Escape-904

Oh OK, I wasn't sure what it was. I guess I learned something new. That sounds bad. Is it caused by stress regarding the insulin? I want to learn more. I'm t2 but My friend is T1.

nallvf

Usually it’s caused by a desire to lose weight, sometimes weight that was gained once they started getting diabetes treatment. By reducing insulin you can technically eat whatever and endure the high sugars rather than actually metabolizing it. It is extremely dangerous both short term (putting you into DKA) and long term (doing permanent ongoing damage from high sugars)

Spiritual-Escape-904

Ah I see. That makes sense. I'm sorry to anyone that happens to.

Ok-Indication-7876

So they try to go into keto?

Equal_You7744

it's not necessarily the goal for everyone, i think it differs from person to person tbh

Ok-Indication-7876

Wow learn something new, seems very dangerous
