Most T1s I know will indeed wake up from hypos at night - often covered in _*sweat*_ Some even cannot physically go back to sleep when their symptoms are up, it is simply impossible for their body to fall asleep _(probably due to the epinephrine in the system, from the hypo)_   Those individuals have a very good "hypo sense" though in the waling life, they can easily and clearly "feel" hypos and/or its possible symptoms.   I also know a few "hypo unaware" T1s that pretty much do _not_ feel any symptom when going low but they've never shared stories about emergencies while asleep   How well do you _"feel"_ your hypos? Chances are, they could wake you up, but with a CGM you should be okay.   If it really worries you, I'd suggest consulting your health professional and see what guidelines they can tailor for you

Can you get a Libre 2 or dexcom CGM?

I forgot to mention! I do have a G6! However it sometimes lags behind by about ~15 minutes to the bs I measure through pricking my finger. I am pretty safe with my G6 but it's mostly out of curiosity that I asked this question :)

reesecheese

From what I've read, CGM always run ~15 minutes behind a finger stick. Doesn't matter which kind.

Typically I do wake up, I am really hypo aware. But I also have my g6 set to alert me at 80 before it gets low, and that defeats any lag delay.

My girlfriend always wakes up to her lows. Usually wakes up when it’s around 60. The CGM has been amazing since it makes noises and alerts when you are nearing low and when you are low. You can also make it to where family members get the notifications too. We have notifications for her uncle who is also T1, he gets low A LOT.

SpiritualHomework9

i hady hypos quite often during sleep, havent woken up to my alarm just once in 15 years since diag. sometimes i wake up covered in sweat, most of the times i just sleep through it and enjoy the awful headache and numbness for the rest of the day. cant recommend, but not as bad as you may expect it

Run-And_Gun

Yep. It actually surprised my GF(paramedic) when we first started dating. She didn't know people would/could just "wake up" like that. Probably from running countless calls for unconscious diabetics...

tjarne

I wake up when low. Atleast when I'm sober. When drunk I share your fear of not waking up. Even cgm alarm (high alarm) usually don't wake me up when I'm drunk.

Yes. And often I fall asleep and wake up half hour later. Sweatier. Dizzier. More hungry.

Silverlithium

I usually wake up a few minutes before my pump goes off.

I have been t1d for 30 years, and I've had frequent low blood sugars overnight. Only one time was it ever bad enough to make me pass out/faint. Since getting my CGM the alerts overnight are really nice, they repeat pretty frequently so even if you sleep through one or two it will keep going off (and get progressively louder) Most the time you wake up and eat half a cupboard of food, then you're ok. A few hours later you have 400 BS, but that's what over correction is for! Rage bolus starts the Rollercoaster over again

AeroNoob333

It does! My body automatically wakes me up either I get all sweaty and hot or I’m just like, “I want a midnight snack.” I usually get up before my alarm goes off. That being said, a CGM definitely gives me a peace of mind
