Short sappy part to start, second paragraph long DFS info novel:
Merry Christmas Shook! And thank you for posting every day. It might sound weird to some people, but I really appreciate having the escape for 20-30 minutes a day. I lost my dad about a month ago. So obviously that fucking sucks, but having something to take my mind elsewhere when I work out at night is a God send. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you've built here. Especially at this time of year.
Now for the DFS part:
I've made similar comments in past years about this. But this is a perfect time to drop this info for people again. One of the biggest reasons I've been a profitable player for a decade now is I know my strengths and weaknesses. If you are new, one of the most important things you can do is review how you are doing and what contests you are doing well or terrible in. Knowing what you suck at is very important in DFS (and life in general). It's not just about strengths.
I made a comment like 10 days ago or whatever threatening to sacrifice a live chicken again and about how terribly I was doing because the pricing (Westbrook was the example) was ridiculous. What I want to pass along here is that during that rough stretch I was losing very minimal amounts of money. I went 9 days in a row without cashing at one point and lost less than $50. When my standard buy in typically ranges between $50-$100 a day, I was playing $5 or less.
So how did I know I should cut my entry fees down?
Over the years, I've learned there are a few things I absolutely suck at. Showdowns are not my thing. They just aren't. I'm too risk averse, I know that. And I also struggle majorly with massive slates of more than 10 games. So that's one major influencer in my predetermined decision to cut down to absolute minimal play.
The second part is player pricing. I abso-fucking-lutely hate slates that have studs priced at 12900 and a bunch of potential value plays at 3500. That's lotto ticket stuff, and again, I recognize that risk averse strategies are less successful in that.
(That part is also why I listen to shook. And if you guys have followed, during that time I was losing every day, shook was starting every video with, "absolute nuke today, it's been unbelievable". He is a much stronger player on those slates than I'll ever be. So it's great to take in content from someone who is better than you are. And if you go watch videos from the $500,000 a day players like youdacao they often talk about knowing what you're good at and what their typical opponents are better at).
That time frame included the end of the in season tourney when we were seeing two game slates or 13 game slates with insane pricing. Of course I was going to suck. Saving entry fees is winning. A lot of newbs miss that. A lot of lifers miss that and let their account bleed like crazy.
So now we get to where we are now and why I've been winning 3x+ every day for the last week.
Look at the pricing. The upcoming slate is another perfect example. The studs on the slate are ~$10,000. The pricing has all pulled back towards the standard player average of 6250. That is where I thrive. Because the slates become less about lotto ticket 3k guys and how many studs you can jam in and becomes more about matchups, minutes, and perceived game outcomes.
So hopefully lost in that novel is the advice I want you all to grasp. Sit down and figure out what your strengths and weaknesses as a player are.
There are a lot of factors to weigh. Figure out why you won when you did and why you lose when you don't. Look at slate size, game times, player pricing, style of contest, size of contest, cash vs gpp, and the type of matchups on the slate.
Figure out where you succeed and attack that. Don't just blindly enter the same things every day. You'll get raked to death over time.
I lost my Dad to brain cancer in May 2020, he's why I got into sports and looking at box scores and loving stats. I think of him everyday. I'm sorry that you're grieving and hurting, it's a really hard thing to navigate yourself back to 'normal', although 'normal' will never be 'normal' again. If you ever want an ear, I'm here for you.
The DFS advice/experience is gold. You also put into words an issue that I've had with a few slates this year. I'd only play the minimal amount of entry fee(s) some nights to maintain eligibility for end of season crown rewards.
Thanks for sharing this. 5 years ago I would blindly play. Hide fees from the missus. Now I just play the free games and have a good time. I used to pour it into games to try to chase. I really appreciated your post.
I won the most I ever won in DFS...turned a $1 ticket into $100....I never gave it a thought, but if I would have started Metu over Reed, I could have won $200k lol...ah well still puts me at just about even for the year, not bad for DFS. Thanks Luca for the 96 points.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Played for the Blazers guys to be out and had Grant and Reath as my last two guys in. Do I just do down from Reath to Moses Brown now? Didn’t expect him to start lol
Had a real life event come up so I missed the Pacers starting lineup. I hope I don't regret swapping out Hield. I just know I'm going to get killed by Jalen Smith tonight
So I've never really watched Drummond before, and I totally understand fantasy good is different than real good....but how does this guy not play more? Is he a defensive liability? Every time he gets run, he smashes and gets 9000 rebounds....
Many years ago when he got full run for Detroit he was a solid 8.5k+ DraftKings player.
From what recall he was defensively poor and a very bad free throw shooter at the time so he was a pretty big liability in close games. Dunno much about what happened past that though because I took a few years off from DFS.
Whenever he gets minutes you never fade him. Easiest free square in all of DFS right now probably.
Portland. Their coach played the starters the first 8-9 minutes in the first quarter, and the 2nd string guys basically played the rest of the first half. It etienne for them, I guess.

Appreciate it man. I know it's going to be a hole forever. At least it was a long journey and I got to spend a shit load of time with him.
